Verizon Start Unlimited Plan Better Option Than Essentials from T-Mobile Posted: 16 Aug 2021 12:11 PM PDT Verizon and T-Mobile are two of the biggest telecom operators in the USA. Both the companies have quite similar prepaid offerings where Verizon's services come across as slightly more premium than T-Mobile's because of the price of the plans. The 'Start Unlimited' plan from Verizon and the Essentials plan from T-Mobile are quite similar, and their pricing varies marginally. The speciality of both the plans is that both of them offer 5G access to the customers. But Verizon's 'Start Unlimited' plan is slightly better than the 'Essentials' plan; here's why. Verizon Start Unlimited Plan BenefitsThe 'Start Unlimited' plan from Verizon offers users 5G nationwide access along with 4G LTE networks access. Users can also pay an additional $10 charge for getting 5G Ultra-Wideband access from the company. The plan ships with unlimited voice calling and unlimited texts. As for data, the company says it offers unlimited, but there should be a fair-usage-policy (FUP) limit on the data. The slightly more expensive plan from Verizon offers 50GB of data, so one thing is for sure, this plan either offers 50GB data as well or something less than that. The Start Unlimited plan costs $70 for a single line connection. Users get Disney+ for six months, discovery+ for 6 months, Google Play Pass for 6 months, Apple Arcade for 6 months, and Apple Music for 6 months.T-Mobile Essentials PlanT-Mobile offers its Essentials plan for $60 (single line connection). Users get unlimited voice calling and 50GB of premium data (FUP data) with unlimited texts. There is no OTT benefit offered, but users get the 'mobile hotspot data' benefit. So on the data front, T-Mobile's Essential plan offers more or the same amount of data for $10 less than Verizon. But there are no OTT benefits which is a big thing. There's a hotspot data benefit that Verizon users don't get with the base 5G unlimited plan. Overall, Verizon's plan offers more benefits than T-Mobile's base plan and thus is better.
Samsung Might Go the Qualcomm Way Predominantly With Galaxy S22 Series Posted: 16 Aug 2021 08:24 AM PDT In 2022, Samsung will be coming out with the Galaxy S22 series. The company is known for offering its flagship smartphones with different chipsets in different regions of the world. Usually, the company offers its flagships with an Exynos SoC in most of the regions including India. But this time around, Samsung might change that. Samsung fans, you might see its flagships pre-dominantly running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC in 2022. The company might offer the AMD powered Exynos 2200 SoC only in select markets. Here's everything we know about this. Samsung Galaxy S22 Might Come With Snapdragon 898 MostlyThe South Korean tech giant might come out with the Galaxy S22 series pre-dominantly running on the Snapdragon 898 SoC. Samsung's choice of processors has mostly been scrutinised by its fans across the world who want to see it go with Snapdragon processors most of the time. But this time around, even the power of the chipsets can be a little different. Samsung's Exynos 2200 is expected to be more powerful than the Snapdragon 898. According to some online reports, the Exynos 2200 SoC can give tough competition to the Apple A14 Bionic. Thus, the Exynos 2200 powered smartphones might be more powerful than people assume it to be. At the same time, it might also be more expensive than what people expect it to come for. Regardless, it would be a refreshing change to see. It will also let Samsung test its move and see just how many people are attracted to a smartphone running on the Qualcomm chipsets and how many are attracted to its smartphones running on the in-house SoC. The report comes from Lanzuk (via PhoneArena). It will be an interesting thing to see how the fans of the company would respond to such a move and just how successful Samsung’s Exynos 2200 SoC will be.
Vodafone Idea CEO: Tariff Hike Not Material Enough to Help Posted: 16 Aug 2021 07:47 AM PDT On Monday, the CEO of Vodafone Idea (Vi), Ravinder Takkar, said tariff hikes are the right direction to go in, but it is not enough to help with the average revenue per user (ARPU) gain. Vi needs more than that to survive. Takkar said that bringing a floor price for the industry is really important to help the cash-strapped telcos. As per a PTI report, Takkar said that Vodafone Idea is still actively looking for an outside investor and is also in talks with some of the potential ones to raise additional funds. Vodafone Idea CEO Says Tariff Hike Are Not Material EnoughIn reference to the tariff changes that the telco made recently, which includes the entry-level corporate postpaid plans, among other things, Takkar said that these small tweaks to the tariffs aren't enough to help with sufficient ARPU gain. Vi CEO believes that tariff hikes are not "material enough" to make an impact. Takkar said that the presence of floor price is the right way to go. As per the report, Vodafone Idea is in continuous discussion with the sector regulator on floor pricing. Vodafone Idea is on a roller coaster right now that's only going down. In its current condition, there's no way the telco would be able to pay all of its dues comfortably that will start ringing the doors of the company from December 2021. The concept of a floor price is a little scary. While it is in line with the telcos' future in India, it takes away the power from the hands of the customers. The telcos' will be able to command significant money from their customers regardless of whether the networks are good or not. The company's future looks very grim as of now. Hopefully, things will change for Vodafone Idea soon, and its fans won't have to switch companies looking for network services. The telco has filed a review petition for the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues decision given by the Supreme Court.

Xiaomi Has Discontinued Base Variants of Two Smartphones in India Posted: 16 Aug 2021 02:18 AM PDT Redmi, the sub-brand of Xiaomi, has discontinued the base variants of two smartphones in India. The smartphones in concern here are the Redmi Note 10 Pro and the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max. The company has delisted the base variants of the smartphone from its official website in India. For the unaware, the base variants of the Redmi Note 10 Pro and the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max came with 6GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. It is worth noting that the devices were launched only a few months back, in March 2021. The Redmi Note 10 Pro base variant was launched for Rs 15,999, and the Redmi Note 10 Pro Max base variant was launched for Rs 18,999. But the devices are available in two more variants with 6GB+128GB and 8GB+128GB variant. The Redmi Note 10 Pro 6GB+128GB variant is priced at Rs 17,999 and the 8GB+128GB variant is priced at Rs 18,999. Both feature a 16MP sensor at the front for selfies and video calling. There is a 5,020mAh battery packed inside both the smartphones that come with support for 33W fast-charging. This might be because the company wants to bank on more revenues from higher variants of the smartphone, or maybe the base variants weren't selling at all. Whatever it is, users can’t purchase the base variant of the concerned devices from the official website of the company now.

Apple iPhone 13 Lineup to Get Three Major Camera Upgrades Posted: 16 Aug 2021 12:41 AM PDT Apple is highly anticipated to launch the next-generation iPhones in the iPhone 13 lineup next month. As we are nearing the launch of these smartphones, we are coming across numerous speculations regarding these models. One of the new features is that there could be three major new updates in the camera and video recording capabilities. These new upgrades are believed to be major enhancements as compared to the previous generation models. Let’s take a look at the new features hinted by Bloomberg here. Apple iPhone 13 New Camera FeaturesThe iPhone 13 series is tipped to arrive with a new Portrait mode feature that will bring the ability to record a video in a high-quality format called ProRes. This new video-recording feature will let iPhone users capture clips in a higher-quality format giving editors more control during post-production. It will follow the ProRAW feature that was introduced last year to let professionals get more control over photos. Similar to this ProRes video recording could be exclusive only to the iPhone 13 Pro models. ProRes will record in either HD and 4K resolutions on the upcoming iPhones. Another feature is an extension of the Portrait mode in photos that was introduced with the iPhone 7 Plus to the videos. It will create a Cinematic Video experience, claim the speculations. With this capability, users can create the depth effect and change the amount of blur after recording the video. Also, there could be a new filters-like aspect to enhance the look and colours of photos. The third feature expected to be a part of the iPhone 13 camera is the ability to better control the looks of colours in photos. Users can choose from several styles to apply to their photos including one that will show colours at a warmer or cooler temperature while keeping the whites neutral. It will add a dramatic look with deeper shadows and more contrast. This feature will be different from the standard filters in the iPhone Camera app and apply changes to objects and people all over the photos using AI instead of a single filter throughout a single picture. Notably, these enhancements are believed to be the major selling points of the iPhone 12 successor.

Reliance Jio Has Put India in the Global Telecom Map Posted: 15 Aug 2021 11:34 PM PDT Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are two of the top telecom operators in India. Bharti Airtel has been in the market for a long time now and has expanded operations globally in 18 countries. Reliance Jio, which entered the Indian market only a few years back might now be planning global expansion as well. The telco has already put India on the global telecom map. It is not just because of its 'speculated' plans to expand services in the international markets, but because of its success in securing investments from tech giants such as Google, Facebook, and more. Reliance Jio International Success Makes India ProudIn a short span, Jio has done something which other companies can only dream of. It has become the number one telecom service provider in India and has further gained a lot of traction from international institutional investors and companies. This shows how much belief the world has in the Mukesh Ambani owned telecom company. As some of the online reports suggest, Reliance Jio might be in the process of preparing an offer to buy a stake in the Deutsch Telekom AG subsidiary, T-Mobile Netherlands BV. This will be the first investment by Jio in the international market. At present, Jio's focus is in India where it is gearing for the launch of 5G networks in the first half of 2022.Reliance Jio Indigenous 5G SolutionsJio's vision has never been short-sighted. The company had announced that it was testing 5G networks through indigenously developed solutions. These solutions can later be supplied by Jio to other operators within India, but also in the international markets. As more companies around the world adopt Open-RAN (O-RAN) solutions, the more chances of Jio making successful sales of its 5G solutions. All that Jio has done in the last few years has helped the telco become one of the major telecom companies in the world and has further put India in the global telecom map.
Cyient Is Setting Up 5G Innovation Lab in India: Prabhakar Atla Posted: 15 Aug 2021 10:37 PM PDT Cyient, a global telecommunications company, is going to help India migrate to 5G networks in an efficient manner. Prabhakar Atla, Senior Vice President & Global Head – Communications & Utilities Business, Cyient, shared the role that Cyient is playing in the densification of the 5G network in rural, urban, and semi-urban locations. Here's everything you should know. Q1. Can You Explain the Working of Cyient's Market-Focused 5G Network Rollout?Enabling 5G network rollout is one of the core focus areas of Cyient's proposition to the telecom Industry. And we are contributing extensively to the 5G network rollout globally. We have been responsible for designing the fiber network that powers the 5G cells. Subsequently, we are playing a key role in the densification of the 5G network in urban, semi-urban, and rural locations. Telecom companies are on the lookout for quick, efficient rollout support and have been benefitting from our "maximum coverage-minimal infrastructure" design principle and technology solutions. We combine decades of network design experience with the latest technologies like digital twin, geospatial intelligence, and hyper-automation to offer a unique proposition. Our contribution to the rollout of 5G networks has been commended for its technical prowess and execution efficiency. The 'Service Delivery Excellence Award in 5G Engineering' conferred on us by NASSCOM in the recently held Engineering and Innovation Excellence Awards '21 is testimony to that.Q2. Please Explain to us the Company’s Technology-Powered Innovation and Designing.Cyient's vision is to "Apply Technology Imaginatively to Solve Problems That Matter." True to our vision, we approach every customer requirement with the intent of delivering a technology-led solution. All the three pillars of our Communications business portfolio – Intelligent Infrastructure, Smart Operations, and Enterprise Network Transformation—have a cutting-edge technology focus. We imbibe technology through partnerships, in-house development, and academia collaborations. We are always on the lookout for novel technology solutions and have developed a robust partner ecosystem with technology leaders globally. There is a strong focus on developing digital solutions within Cyient; our IntelliCyient proposition was launched recently in Hannover Messe. We are setting up a 5G innovation lab and COE in India in partnership with global technology leaders. On the academia front, we have endowed a chair in IIT-Hyderabad to promote research and development in emerging communication technologies.Q3. How Is the Introduction of the Roadmap for 5G Migration and Accompanying Solutions for Post-Deployment Operations, Transforming Communications Networks for Enterprise Solution Companies?Enterprises across sectors are aspiring to achieve digital transformation, and it necessitates seamless convergence between information technology (IT) and operational technology (OT). However, operating and managing physical tasks digitally or using technology requires levels of sophistication and service that "consumer-grade" cellular and wireless connectivity may not always support. The advent of private wireless networks where the confluence of technologies around virtualisation, edge connectivity, Control and User Plane Separation (CUPS), etc., is taking place is an intent to satisfy this need for enterprises. Cyient believes that Edge and Private Wireless have the potential to unlock immense value for enterprises – particularly through operational efficiencies, new business models, improved reliability and quality of service, and reduced cost of deployment. Several new use cases are poised to open up. We have designed our Enterprise Network Transformation proposition to address this customer requirement. We are collaborating with best-in-class partners to provide network services and digital solutions to enterprises with the aim of supporting their transformation.Q4. How is Cyient assisting in Cutting-edge transformation services for Communication Service Providers (CSP) in network planning and design to improve the end-user experience?Traditionally, network build was undertaken in anticipation of business activity, introducing a potential for the demand-supply mismatch. As we progress toward intelligent demand-based network build, greater complexity is introduced in planning and operations. With exponential demand for FTTx and 5G, there is an emphasis on (a) incorporating technology solutions at each step of the process, making the process efficient; and (b) developing integrations and seamless data exchange. This is true not only for the network build phase but also for operations. The demand for a consistently high quality of service has led to the emergence of zero-touch provisioning and robust service management and assurance processes. Cyient's proposition of Intelligent Infrastructure comprises Intelligent Survey, Intelligent Design, and Orchestrated Workflow Management. We place a strong emphasis on approaching plans and design in an integrated manner. As an outcome, we have recorded a close to 70% reduction in survey cost through Intelligent Survey, which leverages LiDAR, 360-degree imagery, and AI. Similarly, our design principle focuses on optimisation, ensuring a significant reduction in cycle time. Through one of our key engagements in India, we enabled a 90% reduction inactivation time by integrating backend systems. We strive to enable telecom companies to accelerate the plan and design process, keeping the connectivity needs of the end-users in mind. As telecom companies move toward a demand-linked network build, it becomes imperative to usher in this transformative approach and partner with network design service providers who possess a blend of design and technology expertise.
Vodafone Idea VoWi-Fi Calling Available In a New State Posted: 15 Aug 2021 09:48 PM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi) is extending the VoWi-Fi service to new states. The third-largest telco has now extended the service for its users living in Rajasthan. VoWi-Fi is a very convenient medium for users to make crystal clear voice calls if they are in an area where the mobile network connectivity is weak. With the addition of the Rajasthan circle, VoWi-Fi will now be available in a total of 6 circles in India which also includes Gujarat, Maharashtra & Goa, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Delhi. For the unaware, there's no additional cost for the users to make a VoWi-Fi call. All that is required is a smartphone that supports it and a strong Wi-Fi connection. Vodafone Idea VoWi-Fi Calling, Things to KnowIf you want to check if the Vi VoWi-Fi calling is activated, you should look for the icon at the top bar of the screen. To make a Wi-Fi call, first enable the Wi-Fi Calling switch on your device and ensure that the VoLTE setting is also switched on at that time. You can make VoWi-Fi calls to anyone including local, national, and international number. Note that if the Wi-Fi network that your device is connected to is weak, you won't get a good experience of VoWi-Fi calling with Vi. There are only select smartphones that can support Vi VoWi-Fi. Vodafone Idea's website suggests that few smartphones from Apple, OnePlus, Oppo, Realme, Samsung, and Xiaomi can support the feature. The purpose of VoWi-Fi is to enable users to get a seamless network experience and indoor coverage. Wherever the telco's network is not reachable but there's a Wi-Fi connection available, users can leverage VoWi-Fi calling feature from the company to make voice calls. The telecom circles mentioned above only allow users to make Wi-Fi calls. The company is working to extend the feature to other circles soon.
| Best Entry-Level Postpaid Plans in August 2021 Posted: 15 Aug 2021 08:34 PM PDT Telecom companies have developed an extensive portfolio of postpaid plans that are packed with data, voice calling and steaming benefits.
