Google Pixel 5a 5G vs Pixel 5 vs Pixel 4a 5G: How Are They Different? Posted: 18 Aug 2021 08:16 AM PDT Design And DisplayAll these three Pixels smartphones are identical with a squarish camera module at the top left corner of the rear panel, a punch-hole cutout, and a fingerprint sensor at the rear. The Pixel 5 has a more compact build and a quality finish with a metal rear panel. It also supports wireless charging and is IP68 rated. On the other hand, the Pixel 4a 5G is bigger and comes with a polycarbonate back with a matte finish. There is a 3.5mm headphone jack and no IP rating. Finally, the Pixel 5a 5G has an even larger form factor without deviating the design language and comes with a metal unibody build and an IP67 rating. In terms of display, the Pixel 5a 5G flaunts a larger 6.4-inch OLED display with a FHD+ resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate. This is larger than the Pixel 4a 5G's 6.2-inch OLED display with a FHD+ resolution and 60 Hz refresh rate and the Pixel 5's smaller 6-inch OLED display with a similar resolution. However, the Pixel 5 comes with 90 Hz refresh rate and HDR support.Hardware And BatteryAll these Pixel models use the Qualcomm Snapdragon 765G offering support for 5G but the Pixel 5 has a larger RAM than the rest. In terms of battery, Pixel 5a 5G gets the power from a 4620mAh battery than the other two smartphones. Also, the Pixel 5 offers support for wireless charging and reverse wireless charging as well.CameraFor imaging, all these models are on par with a dual-camera setup at the rear with a 12.2MP primary sensor and a 16MP secondary ultra-wide-angle lens. At the front, there is an 8MP selfie camera sensor. We can expect major upgrades to arrive on the Pixel 6.VerdictGiven that there are very few differences between these three Pixel smartphones, we can expect them to deliver almost the same performance, look and feel. Only the Pixel 6 is expected to bring some substantial changes. Notably, the Pixel 5 of last year has a high refresh rate, wireless charging capabilities and a more premium build. However, it is sensible as the Pixel a series smartphones come at relatively lower pricing.
Telecom, OTT Deals Push Sun NXT User Base Beyond 2 Crores Posted: 18 Aug 2021 07:33 AM PDT Sun NXT, the over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform run by Sun TV now has over 2 crore users, with the majority acquired through the tie ups with telecom operators and other OTT players. The development was shared by SL Narayanan, group chief financial officer at Sun TV Network in the first quarter earnings call on Friday. Narayanan also said that the platform does host users "who have come organically" but "that number is very small." However, the group CFO at Sun TV said that the organic users on the SUN NXT platform are "growing." Sun NXT Has "Impressive Collection of Content" Says Sun TV Group CFONarayanan said that Sun TV is "investing in movies" and that Sun NXT has a "hike" in its user base each time the company premieres a new movie on its OTT platform. "If anything Sun NXT [has] got an impressive collection of content," Narayanan said in the first quarter earnings call on Friday. "So, you get all our channels streaming live, and then you also have access to my entire library and you can choose a nonlinear option on these serials as well. So, to say that you know, there’s no content on Sun NXT is absolutely facetious." Crucially, Narayanan said that telecom operators receive "restricted access" to Sun NXT portfolio and that the deals with the operators does not mandate Sun TV to produce fresh content for Sun NXT. "We limit their (telecom operators) access to my library because you know, for the kind of price that we get, we don’t open up the entire library," Narayanan said. "We only give restricted access to our library because if they want to get the entire access, I’ll be cannibalizing my own customers." In India, Sun TV has priced the Sun NXT monthly plan at Rs 99 while the quarterly and annual plans are priced at Rs 129 and Rs 489 respectively. It has to be noted that the telecom operators including Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea offer its users access to Sun NXT portfolio through JioCinema and Vi Movies and TV respectively. However, the JioCinema along with Vi Movies and TV platforms are largely available to Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea users for no additional cost. Further, Narayanan said that a lot of users in its international markets including Malaysia, Singapore and Middle East are "now shifting" from Direct-to-Home (DTH) and cable subscriptions to Sun NXT. The group CFO at Sun TV said that the viewing habits are "changing" due to the pandemic with a "lot of North Indians" watching South Indian movies. "Because the pandemic has actually prompted them to look for other options in content," Narayanan said. "So, I’m very positive that you know Sun NXT will become a very important part of our total offering." Narayanan said that the "absolute moment of arrival" for Sun TV as a "digital power" would be when "every home in South India becomes the Sun NXT subscriber." However, the group CFO at Sun TV said that the "holy grail" moment is still "some time away" due to the low penetration of high speed broadband. Narayanan said that the company would have "achieved a breakthrough kind of penetration" if it can even convert 1.1 crore users into "direct paying subscribers of Sun NXT.""Delayed Investment" in Sun NXT "Remains A Concern" Say AnalystsSun TV on Friday announced its first quarter results for the period ended June 30, 2021, with the company recording Rs 810.10 crores in revenues in the quarter. The broadcaster operating satellite TV channels across multiple Indian languages said that the revenues in its first quarter translated to a 34% year-over-year (YoY) increase. Meanwhile, multiple analysts have said that the investment delays by Sun TV on its Sun NXT platform "remains a concern." Motilal Oswal Financial Services, an Indian diversified financial services firm, on Saturday highlighted that Sun NXT "continues to remain a key part" of the overall content strategy of Sun TV. "Intensifying content investment to win market share is a key positive, but delayed investment in OTT remains a concern," Motilal Oswal said in its note. "It (Sun TV) has delayed its OTT investment by two years, with no clear timelines." Similarly, Dolat Capital, a financial firm engaged in the trading markets on Saturday highlighted that the Sun NXT platform has been "throwing back healthy cash flows for Sun TV." "However, there has been persistent delay in investment in digital business by Sun," Dolat Capital said in a note. "There had been disconnect and delays in intent vs. execution on digital several times. Delivery on digital would be critical."
Vodafone Idea (Vi) Is Not Having a Pleasant 2021 So Far Posted: 18 Aug 2021 06:26 AM PDT The condition of Vodafone Idea seems to be worsening because of the financial burden and continuous subscriber reduction. On Tuesday, the shares of Vodafone Idea fell for the seventh session. The prime reason behind the reduction in the price of shares is linked to quarterly losses and default fundraising plans. As reported by ET Telecom, the balance sheet of the financially distressed telco shows that the liabilities of Vodafone Idea is much more than the profit & loss statement. Bankruptcy is on the verge for telecom operators if funding plans are not executed along with financial aid from the government. Vodafone Idea's Net Debt at the end of June Quarter was Rs 1,90,670 CroreTalking about the financial figures of the telco, the net debt at the end of the June quarter was Rs 1,90,670 crore with a cash reserve of just Rs 920 crore. The AGR liabilities of the telco stand at Rs 62,180 crore. The scrip of the telco reported a 5.19% reduction to Rs 5.66 on the BSE. If you are not aware, the company's debt is nearly 12 times greater than its market capitalisation of Rs 16,264.23 crore.Government Intervention is Essential to Sustain the Market StructureEdelweiss Securities expressed its opinions and marked that the delay in capital raising has deteriorated the financial credibility of the telco. To revive the telco, government intervention would be essential. Along with a relief package, the next round of tariff hikes would also aid the telco in elevating the ARPU. The government of India is expecting the promoters of the financially distressed telco to infuse equity and show their commitment to Indian telecom operations. In other development, Vodafone Idea is investing its efforts in curating a creative petition in case the Supreme Court will reject its review petition seeking correction in the calculation strategy by the telecom department. The subscriber loss of Vodafone Idea increased 1.24 crore to 25.54 crores in the June quarter. The reduction in revenue and subscriber count was affecting Ebitda due to the higher fixed cost of the business. To provide immediate liquid support, a capital raise or government relief package will be essential for the telco.

Bharti Airtel, Vi Worried About Indian 5Gi Standard Posted: 18 Aug 2021 01:15 AM PDT Top telecom operators and vendors, including Bharti Airtel, Vodafone Idea, Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, Samsung, Qualcomm and more companies, have expressed their fear of India going ahead with the 5Gi standard. For the unaware, India came out with its own 5G standard called 5Gi, which was different from that of the one proposed by the 3GPP. The only thing is, the 5Gi standard isn't as good as what the Telecommunications Standards Development Society, India (TSDSI) claims it to be. As per an ET Telecom report, the companies and the vendors' requests have been continuously rejected to conduct a holistic assessment of the standard within TSDSI. Thus, the companies have submitted a joint statement to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) requesting the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) to test the 5Gi standard theoretically and also through field testing. Before the 5Gi standard is made the mandatory norm, it is important that these tests happen. 5Gi Not Better than 3GPP 5G StandardThe companies said that if there's no significant gain in cost or network efficiency found, the 3GPP standard should not be modified by any nation. The biggest thing to note here is that the standard has not been proven commercially, so it would be very risky to go ahead with fixing the 5Gi standard as the mandatory norm for the operators and the vendors in India. This would further affect smartphones. The smartphones for India would especially come with technology supporting the 5Gi standard, which might create issues with international roaming. Further, the cost of building the smartphones, especially for India with the 5Gi standard, would increase for the companies, which would then result in a higher price for the end consumer. The operators have warned that if the 5Gi standard is implemented in India, it might affect the way consumers look at 5G. The 3GPP standard of 5G would be a safer bet to go with at the moment.

Apple iPhone 13 Likely to Arrive On September 21 Posted: 17 Aug 2021 11:09 PM PDT The iPhone 12 lineup launch last year was delayed to October as there was chaos due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the company appears to stick to its usual timeline as the next-generation iPhones in the iPhone 13 series will be launched in September, which is next month. A report by MacRumors citing the investor note by Daniel Ives of Wedbush notes that the Cupertino tech giant could take the wraps off the iPhone 13 series in the third week of next month. However, the exact launch date of the device is yet to be disclosed. Going by the usual launch pattern followed by Apple, it will host the vent on Tuesday. Given that the company has moved to its usual launch schedule, we can expect it to continue this trend as well. If this turns out to be true, then the Apple iPhone 13 series could be launched on September 21, 2021. We can also expect an earlier launch on September 7 or September 14. Furthermore, Daniel Ives also expects that the company will manufacture between 130 million and 150 million units of the latest models by the end of this year. Notably, it intends to increase the production to 45 per cent from 35 per cent in Q3 2021. Apple iPhone 13: What To Expect?Based on the previous speculations, the iPhone 13 lineup is expected to feature a slightly smaller notch and could arrive with a fast refresh rate of 120 Hz. There are claims that the iPhone 13 series could support mmWave 5G for the global countries except for the US. also, these models are to feature space-saving internal circuitry that might let the company use a bigger battery. One of the recent reports suggested that the upcoming iPhones will feature 25W fast charging support, which is a slight upgrade from the existing 22W fast charging. Also, a LiDAR scanner is expected. The iPhone 13 series is expected to arrive with notable hardware upgrades and a more power-efficient and faster chipset made using the 5nm+ process likely the Apple A15 Bionic.
Bharti Airtel Good Days Ahead Despite Dues Posted: 17 Aug 2021 10:02 PM PDT Bharti Airtel has been successful in building a solid brand throughout the years. It is really the only telco that truly survived the market post the arrival of Reliance Jio in 2016. All the other operators went out of business because of the loss in market share, while Vodafone and Idea Cellular had to merge to keep running. Things haven't been good for the other operators apart from Jio as they have tons of dues in their books. But despite all the dues that Bharti Airtel has, it is all set for a smooth future ahead. Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio Will Continue to Rule MarketUntil and unless something charismatic happens and either Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) or Vodafone Idea (Vi) dramatically start growing rapidly, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio will keep ruling the market. This is because both the operators have built trust with their subscribers, and the other companies are just struggling to stay afloat. Bharti Airtel is making profits. Yes, the telco's profits narrowed in the first quarter of FY22, but the important thing to note here is that it is still making profits. If it was a loss, it would have been a totally different story. As long as a company is making profits, the industry, its lenders, and the government feel secure. Analysts predict that Bharti Airtel's stock is only going to rise from here. This is because of two reasons. First, if the government comes out with a relief package, Airtel will be able to use it to its benefit quite well. Second, if Vodafone Idea goes under, Airtel will be able to acquire most of its 2G subscribers who can't shift to Reliance Jio if they don't have a 4G smartphone. Bharti Airtel has a ton of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues it needs to pay, but the telco wouldn't be a lot worried since things are playing out just fine for it.
JioPhone Next, What Jio Needs to Do Right? Posted: 17 Aug 2021 08:50 PM PDT The JioPhone Next is going to launch in a matter of few weeks. It is highly anticipated in India just like every other Reliance Jio product. Many are confident that it would help Jio in further adding new subscribers very rapidly. If Jio launches special tariffs for the JioPhone Next just like there are plans for the JioPhone, it could create a huge impact on the company and the industry. Vodafone Idea (Vi) subscribers trying to switch to other networks will finally have an option of a cheap 4G smartphone and not an outdated technology feature phone. It will offer Jio a chance to expand its user base aggressively. But there are a few things that the company needs to get right in order for the smartphone to succeed. JioPhone Next Features and Software Will Matter a LotSoftware optimisation on a sub Rs 4,000 (expected) smartphone can be a game-changer. It would shake the entry-level smartphone industry and further push other companies to come out with devices in the same range with better specs and software optimisation. But in case Jio fails to do this, it wouldn't look good on the company's promises and further won't really have an impact on its subscriber base. Many users can also use this smartphone as a secondary device just for hotspots or making voice calls. The specifications of the smartphone won't matter too much. No one would expect the camera to be too good, the phone to be silky smooth. Only if it can perform decently and allow users to make voice and video calls along with strong support for apps such as WhatsApp and more, it will be fine. One of the things that is already confirmed about the device is that it will run on Android 11 Go Edition out of the box. As per the online reports, JioPhone Next might be priced at Rs 3,499 which is not bad. Note that the price mentioned here is just a leak and the company hasn't confirmed it, so the actual price of the smartphone will only be known once it is launched. The JioPhone Next will give the users an option to get a 4G smartphone who don't have the money to upgrade even to an entry-level 4G smartphone that costs around Rs 6,000. Hopefully, the JioPhone Next is what users expect it to and it pushes people to upgrade to 4G networks so that India can get rid of 2G and 3G networks as fast as possible and move on to being a 4G and 5G only nation.
| Airtel or Connect, Whose Rs 500 Broadband Plan Makes More Sense Posted: 17 Aug 2021 06:38 PM PDT The number of broadband internet service providers (ISPs) has surged in the last few years. There are many regional operators who have come into the scene offering a tough competition to the PAN-India operators such as Jio, Airtel and BSNL. Today, we are going to look at one such regional broadband service provider, 'Connect' and compare its Rs 500 plan with Airtel's Rs 500 fiber broadband plan. Airtel provides its fiber broadband services under Airtel Xstream Fiber. Both the companies offer the same priced plan to the users. Just to be clear, both the companies offer Rs 499 broadband plan, and for the sake of rounding off, I have referred to it as Rs 500. Airtel Xstream Fiber Rs 499 Broadband PlanThis is the entry-level broadband plan from Bharti Airtel. Airtel Xstream Fiber users get 3.3TB or 3,333GB data with every plan there is, along with a landline voice calling connection with unlimited talktime. The speed offered by this plan is 40 Mbps, and it the plan also comes with Airtel Thanks benefits which include Airtel Xstream Premium, Wynk Music, Shaw Academy, and more. The cost of the plan (Rs 499) is not inclusive of GST. Users can also get an Xstream Box from the company while purchasing the broadband connection for a mere one time fully refundable amount of Rs 1,500. The channel pack for 1 month would cost a little more. There are no other benefits offered by this plan.Connect Broadband Rs 499 PlanConnect is a regional broadband player present in three states of the country, including Jammu & Kashmir, Haryana, and Punjab. The company offers a Rs 499 broadband plan to the users living in Punjab. This plan also comes with the same speed that is 40 Mbps and offers users 3.3TB or 3,300GB data for the month.
