| Vodafone Idea Is Getting Aggressive With VoWi-Fi Service Posted: 23 Aug 2021 11:53 AM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi) has been working really hard to turn the situation in its favour. The third-largest telco has a lot of debt on its shoulders and it needs quick cash inflow to keep going. One of the ways to do that is to offer unique services such as VoWi-Fi. Vodafone Idea (Vi) VoWi-Fi service allows users to make voice calls with the help of Wi-Fi networks. The company has been expanding its VoWi-Fi service to major telecom circles in the country. Let's see the places it is currently available in. Vodafone Idea VoWi-Fi Service Is Available HereVodafone Idea VoWi-Fi service is available in a total of seven circles in India. The seven circles include – Gujarat, Kolkata, Maharashtra & Goa, UP East, Mumbai, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The telco will be bringing the support for this service in multiple other telecom circles as well. One of the best things about the VoWi-Fi service from Vodafone Idea (Vi) is that users don't have to pay any additional costs to avail it. If the user is in one of the telecom circles mentioned above and owns a smartphone that supports VoWi-Fi from Vi, he/she can avail the service. Vi has listed all the compatible devices for Wi-Fi calling on its website. There's one thing though, if your Wi-Fi connection is not great, the service won't be very effective. But if you are on a fiber internet connection and get great download/upload speed, you will be able to get a crystal clear voice on your call. All the major smartphones such as the latest-generation iPhones, Xiaomi, OnePlus, and other devices from other companies come with support for VoWi-Fi calling. Hopefully, the VoWi-Fi calling service from Vodafone Idea can make an impact in the company's future and it can help the telco in adding new and retaining old customers. |

The plans are packed with high-speed data, voice calling and SMS benefits. Not only this, but the different service validity period of the prepaid plans comes in handy for subscribers. In this article, we will list the best valued prepaid plans of Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea that comes with 28 days validity and enough data balance. | Mi Band 6 Is Coming Soon, Should You Wait or Buy Mi Band 5 Posted: 23 Aug 2021 06:12 AM PDT Xiaomi Mi Band series is known for the cheap fitness trackers available for users. The Mi Smart Band 5 was launched last year as the successor to the Mi Band 4. Now, it has been confirmed that the company is gearing up to launch the Mi Band 6, which will be called Mi Band 6 in India. Xiaomi Mi Band 6 India LaunchRecently, the Xiaomi India MD, Manu Kumar Jain took to Twitter to confirm that the Mi Smart Band 6 will be launched in the country on August 26. It is expected to be priced between Rs 2,200 and Rs 2,500. The highly-anticipated Mi Band 6 was announced in the global markets in March alongside the flagship Mi 11 series smartphones. The wearable will go on sale via Amazon India and Mi com as well.Xiaomi Mi Band 6 SpecificationsThe Mi Band 6 features a 1.56-inch AMOLED touchscreen display with a resolution of 152 x 486 pixels, which translates into a pixel density of 450 nits. It s waterproof and can resist underwater for up to 50 meters. The fitness tracker gets the power from a 125mAh battery touted to deliver up to 14 days of battery life. Other aspects include Bluetooth 5.0, a charging time of up to two hours, support for 30 sports models including cycling, walking, indoor treadmill, and others, a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen monitoring, 24/7 blood pressure monitoring and sleep tracking among others.Should You Buy Mi Band 6 Or Mi Band 5?While it is evident that the latest edition will be a clear-cut winner in the affordable fitness tracker market segment, it depends on how different it is from its prequel, the Mi Smart Band 6. Notably, Xiaomi has introduced a few key changes to the Mi Band 6 including a larger display of 1.56 inches as compared to the 1.1-inch screen on its predecessor. However, the wearable still misses out on an ambient light sensor. The key differences between the Mi Band 5 and Mi Band 6 also include the sensors. While only the Chinese variant of the Mi Band 5 came with a SpO2 sensor, all standard variants of the Mi Band 6 come with this sensor that can quickly track blood oxygen levels. There are some notable sports tracking additions too, which takes it to 30 from 11 in its predecessor. Having detailed the differences, you can opt for the Mi Band 6 if you are in for additional aspects such as all-day stress tracking, sports tracking, and more. However, these could have an effect on the battery life of the wearable. |
| Indian Telcos Cannot Get New Gear Because of Delay In Security Clearance Posted: 23 Aug 2021 04:30 AM PDT Earlier this year, the Indian government asked the telcos to not source their network equipment or gear from any company that's not in the trusted category. The government-appointed the National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC) as the designated body for identifying companies as trusted or not. Only the trusted companies are allowed to manufacture equipment for the Indian telcos. The NCSC's trusted telecom equipment portal is supposed to list all the companies that are safe to source equipment from. But because of the same, the telcos are facing severe delays in getting equipment. Telcos Not Purchasing Equipment to be SafeAccording to a Business Standard report, the Indian telcos aren't purchasing equipment from the companies because they are worried if they will have to change it in the near future if the government deems it unsafe or untrustworthy. Because of the same, the companies aren't manufacturing the equipment in advance because they don't want to tie their money up in unsold inventory. The government hasn't cleared the application of the telecom gear makers products as safe, and that is why the equipment makers aren't getting fresh orders from the telcos. This will certainly hurt their revenues, and the same will continue until the time government expedites the process of certification of the products as 'trustworthy'. It would be natural for the gear makers to feel unsafe if there are any more delays from the government. Further, when the approval from the government comes, and the gear makers start manufacturing the products, it will take weeks before they can be shipped to the operators. The existence of NCSC is important given the security and privacy it will ensure Indians. But at the same time, an efficient process to run the portal is required, and the government needs to find it soon because if there are delays such as this every time, it will lead to longer network deployment times and increased costs for the operators. |
| Star India And Viacom18 Get New TV Channel Licences Posted: 23 Aug 2021 03:10 AM PDT The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB) has granted TV channel licences to Star India owned by Disney and Viacom18 Media. Going by the same, both companies have four TV channel licences each now. Even Goldmine Telefilms received three new licences in the non-news category on July 22. To date, the MIB has granted 915 news and non-news licences to 357 companies. Also, it has revoked the licences of 347 channels. Issuance of New LicencesNotably, Viacom18 received the licences under channel names that do not operate for now such as Connected, My Cam, Eco-Lution, and Pick-A-Trick. These licences were granted on June 10, 2021. It is important to note that there is a buzz that Network 18 owned by Mukesh Ambani is entering into the sports broadcasting segment. For those who are unaware, TV18, a subsidiary of Network18 owns a majority stake in Viacom18. On the other hand, Star India, which ceased all channel expansion plans due to the New Tariff Order 2.0, has received a grant from MIB to launch Odia GEC Star Kirano and Star Kirano HD. Its subsidiary Asianet Star Communications received licences to launch Asianet Movies HD and Vijay Super HD on July 19, 2021. Notably, in April 2020, Star India called off the launch of channels including Vijay Music, Star Sports 3 HD, Star Gold 2 HD, Star Movies Select and Disney Channel HD. Also, the company planned to rebrand Movies OK as Star Gold 2 from February 1, 2020. Apart from these, both Viacom18 and Star India received approvals to rename their existing licences. Going by the same, Star India got the nod from MIB to launch Star Sports 1 Tamil HD instead of Star World. Also, there are speculations that Star India might shut down Star Works, which is an English GEC. Furthermore, the company owned by Disney received a nod to launch Star Gold Family instead of Star Utsav Movies. Previously, it has the channel name of the licence was renamed Star Gold Romance. Now, the broadcaster owns a separate licence under this name. Viacom18 obtained the licence under the name Rishtey Bhojpuri, which was renamed Colors Cineplex Bollywood. Originally, this licence was procured under BDM, a dummy name. |

The company has confirmed the contact with all 34 of them. With this launch, the total tally of low earth orbit (LEO) satellites from OneWeb revolving around the atmosphere has reached 288. The 34 new satellites from the company have been launched by Arianespace from the Baikonur Cosmodrome. Note that even though there are 288 satellites from the company already in space, 360 more satellites are still left to be launched. OneWeb Preparing Well for Global ExpansionOneWeb has confirmed that it is on track to launch more satellites and will also commence its services this year. Further, the company said that it would start expanding globally in 2022. One of the target markets for OneWeb is India which it plans to enter in mid-2022 along with other satcom companies such as Starlink and Project Juniper from Amazon. The liftoff took place on 21 August at 11:13 BST. | Apple iPhone 13 With Touch ID to Not Arrive In 2021 Posted: 22 Aug 2021 11:04 PM PDT In a few more weeks, Apple is gearing up to unveil the next-generation model – the iPhone 13 series. As the launch is nearing, we are coming across various rumors and leaks suggesting what we can expect from the iPhone 13 lineup. In a recent development, a report reveals details about the iPhone 13 model with Touch ID. As per Bloomberg's Mark Gurman in the Power On newsletter, Apple will skip launching the iPhone 13 with an in-screen fingerprint sensor or Touch ID later this year. He added that the company will have a long-term goal to add Face ID under the display. It appears to be clear that the Cupertino-based tech giant is sticking with the Face ID for the long term but there is a possibility to use Touch ID at least for the low-end models. But this is not going to happen this year. iPhone 13 With Touch ID Not Coming In 2021Mark Gurman notes that there could be two possibilities – low-end models with Face ID sensors within the notch on top of the display as in the existing models and high-end iPhone 13 models with in-display Face ID. On the other hand, the company might offer an in-display Face ID for the premium models while the low-end models might arrive with Touch ID inside the display.iPhone 13: What To Expect?iPhone 13 lineup is believed to feature a slightly smaller notch and a 120 Hz refresh rate in the premium Pro models. Also, it is being reiterated that the company might offer a 1TB internal storage space this year. It is claimed that there could be support for mmWave 5G for countries outside the US. The upcoming models are believed to arrive with space-saving internal circuitry that could let the company place a larger battery. As per a recent report, the new iPhones will arrive with 25W fast charging support, which is an upgrade as compared to the 22W charging support in its predecessors. Also, we can expect a LiDAR scanner to be included in the latest models. In terms of the hardware aspects, the Apple iPhone 13 lineup is said to arrive with notable upgrades. This is evident as there could be a faster and more power-efficient A15 Bionic chipset made using the TSMC 5nm+ process. As of now, Apple has not announced the exact launch date of the iPhone 13 series but the ongoing speculations point out that the devices could go official in the third week of September. |
| BSNL Surprises With Increasing Subscriber Market Share Posted: 22 Aug 2021 10:21 PM PDT Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has surprised the market by showing increasing subscriber market share. Even without 4G networks into play, the telco has managed to grow its subscriber market share from 8.6% in FY17 to 10.03% in FY21. Even though it is a marginal increase in percentage, it can't be ignored that the telco has done this without the presence of 4G networks. This just begs me to ask a question, what would happen once the telco starts offering 4G services in India as well? But there's also one more thing that needs to be considered. Between FY17 and FY21, many new subscribers have jumped into the market looking for cheap tariffs, and BSNL offers just that. BSNL Saw Consistent Growth in Subscriber Market Share Over the YearsAccording to an NDTV Profit report, BSNL saw consistent growth in subscriber market share in the last few years. In FY17, the telco had a subscriber market share of 8.6%, which grew to 9.4% in FY18, then to 9.9% in FY19, and then to 10.3% in FY20. But then it came slightly down to 10.03% in FY21. Even after the announcement of a revival plan for the state-run telco in 2019, things haven't moved very aggressively when it comes to telco's 4G network expansion. BSNL is still struggling to get complete support from the government to launch its 4G networks which is a little sad. The telco is moving ahead with the hybrid 4G plan in India, where it will invite local as well foreign vendors to provide equipment for its mobile sites throughout the country. BSNL issued a Letter of Intent (LoI) to five bidders on July 1, 2021. Things are moving very slow for the telco when it comes to 4G, and looking at the current rate of how fast things are happening, it might take another year at least for BSNL to launch nationwide 4G networks. |
| WhatsApp Brings New Payments Shortcut Posted: 22 Aug 2021 09:34 PM PDT WhatsApp is bringing a new payments feature for Android users. Note that the feature is currently available in the beta version of the application, and it will take some time for it to arrive in the stable version. The new 'Payments Shortcut' that WhatsApp is adding is aimed to make paying a contact an even seamless process for the users. As per a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp will now show a new 'payments' icon in between the camera and attachments icons on the chat window. Users will be able to just click on the payments shortcut button and make a direct payment. The button is available for all Indian Android users who have installed the WhatsApp Beta Android version 2.21.17. ![]() WhatsApp Added Payments BackgroundsA few days back, WhatsApp had also added new Payments Backgrounds for Indian users. This feature allows users to personalise their payments to another level. There are theme-based backgrounds that users can choose, just like Google Pay also offers. This helps users in categorising the kind of payment they are making to the other users. WhatsApp is trying really hard to incentivise users into using its Payments feature over the others such as Google Pay and PhonePe. Regardless of having such a large user base, it is quite impossible for WhatsApp to make any dents in the market share of Google Pay or PhonePe. This is because both the prominent money transaction apps offer cashbacks, brand vouchers and have also partnered with other companies to offer benefits to the users. WhatsApp will have to come out with a clever strategy into making people believe that they should use its platform for payments rather than other applications. But it will be a tough thing to do. |
| BSNL, Vodafone Idea Merger Will Not Happen Posted: 22 Aug 2021 08:42 PM PDT Kumar Mangalam Birla had earlier said that he is willing to give his promoter stake in Vodafone Idea to the government. But now, it looks like that won't happen since government can't imagine a world where both Vodafone Idea and BSNL are merged. This is because of the losses and debt that Vodafone Idea has mounted on its head. In addition to this, it isn't like the government is running a very successful telecom business and it would be looking to acquire more in the sector. Even the government run telcos including BSNL and MTNL are both unsuccessful and are only surviving because of the bailouts from the government. BSNL and Vodafone Idea Merger UnthinkableAs senior officer told TOI that the merger between the companies is "unthinkable" as it would seem like the government is going after "privatisation of profits" and "nationalisation of losses", and this actually makes sense. To Birla, selling his stake of the company to the government seemed like a viable option but this isn't correct for the government. Even BSNL and MTNL haven't been running smoothly despite being handed out a revival package worth Rs 69,000 crore in 2019. As per the publication's report, an officer aware of the developments said that merging the telcos would lead to a "financial mess". This makes sense because the merger won't serve any purpose to the government or to the subscribers. The government isn't the best in running a telecom business and Vi might get into more trouble after being acquired by the state. The better option for the government would be to keep its resources and energy focused on the well being of BSNL and MTNL so that both these telcos can reach a better position than they are in right now. Acquiring Vodafone Idea would result in a headache and mismanagement for the government and thus, for the time being, BSNL should be the focus for the government. |
| BSNL 4G Plans Cannot Alone Bear the Load Posted: 22 Aug 2021 06:35 PM PDT Technically, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offers some of the best 4G prepaid plans in India. In terms of data, SMS benefits, voice calling, and other benefits, BSNL is right at the top when it comes to offering cheap plans. But BSNL 4G plans lack one thing – the support of the PAN India 4G network. See, if there's no 4G coverage, how would a 4G plan make a difference. It would only end up looking like a gimmick from the company to lure in customers. The thing is, it is not just BSNL's fault that there is no 4G network coverage of the telco throughout the country, there are more factors at play here, and one of them is the lack of support from the government. BSNL 4G Dream Ignored By the GovernmentIt isn't like BSNL hasn't got any support from the government, but there's just not 'enough' of it. The telco has been interfered with so many times. BSNL has tried its best to come out with solutions for rolling out 4G networks, but all it has received is backlash. The telco initially tried to rollout 4G networks with foreign vendors, but that move received a lot of criticism because, according to some groups and some important people at the top, it felt like not giving local Indian vendors a fair chance to compete. Yes, BSNL's a state-run company, but that doesn't mean it can't take help from the outside. Especially when there's no local Indian company with proven technology or history in this line of field. Going with an Indian company only increases the cost of network deployment and the time taken to do it, which affects the future of BSNL in such a mighty way. The telco needs the support of the government when it comes to 4G. Hopefully, it will start receiving it soon. BSNL is also looking forward to getting the money back from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) that it is owed; the figures are near about Rs 30,000 crore. This money can help the telco pay off salaries, make equipment upgrades, and whatnot. Honestly, it is a little sad to see the Indian government-run telecom operator at the bottom of the table with no help. Hopefully, the government and the telco can reach a solution as fast as possible because any more delays in launching 4G network can be catastrophic for BSNL. This also affects the industry since the survival of BSNL is very much needed to avoid the duopoly of Airtel and Jio in the long run. |

Private telecom operators witnessed a roller coaster ride in terms of subscriber addition and reduction. While Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel witnessed a spike in the subscriber addition, Vodafone Idea saw a massive decline in the subscriber count. As per the latest information revealed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), the largest telecom operator of India, Reliance Jio, added 54.7 lakh subscribers in June, whereas Bharti Airtel added 38.1 lakh subscribers. On the other side,

In a few more weeks, Apple is gearing up to unveil the next-generation model – the iPhone 13 series.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has surprised the market by showing increasing subscriber market share. Even without 4G networks into play, the telco has managed to grow its subscriber market share from 8.6% in FY17 to 10.03% in FY21. Even though it is a marginal increase in percentage, it can't be ignored that the telco has done this without the presence of 4G networks. Between FY17 and FY21, many new subscribers have jumped into the market looking for cheap tariffs, and

Kumar Mangalam Birla had earlier said that he is willing to give his promoter stake in Vodafone Idea to the government. Even the government run telcos including
Technically, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offers some of the best 4G prepaid plans in India. The thing is, it is not just BSNL's fault that there is no
