Indian Telecom Operators Will be Ready for 5G Posted: 30 Aug 2021 12:22 PM PDT The Indian telecom operators, including Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and Bharti Airtel, will be ready for 5G networks. The telcos are already testing their 5G solutions and networks in different parts of the country. Whenever the right time for the launch of the networks arrive, the operators will be ready in terms of network capacity and coverage. Of course, the operators will keep on investing in their networks for years even after the PAN-India launch just to boost capacity and coverage further like they are doing with 4G. Work from Home Environment to Boost Demand for 5GDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, one thing became pretty evident – the need for seamless internet connectivity. This can only be possible if the users are living in a good network coverage area where the telco of their choice has enough capacity in its networks to fulfil the demand of the users even in peak times and avoid network congestion scenarios. The 5G networks are expected to come with much more capacity than the 4G networks as they will have to deliver much more speeds to users around the country. According to a PTI report, Sanjay Malik, Senior Vice President & Head of India Market, Nokia, said that India had become a potential market for the company because of the recent spectrum auctions. In the recent auctions, the telcos were seen investing a lot of their money in the 4G spectrum so that they can start with building the backhaul and the transport for 5G networks. With the work from home environment that has kicked in, Nokia is confident about making a good fortune in the Indian market as the telcos' need for network equipment for 5G will be pretty high. Even Malik agrees that the telcos will go with a phased launch where they will first launch the 5G networks in metro cities and then expand the networks in the smaller cities of India.
5G In India: Up to 60% Spectrum May Go Unsold Posted: 30 Aug 2021 11:04 AM PDT 5G airwaves will soon be up for auctions as soon as the telcos are done with their field trials. 5G in India is expected to come anytime during the first half of 2022. But the ride for the government nor the telcos won't be easy. The issue is the spectrum price. Time and again, the telcos and the industry officials have communicated this with the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). Ideally, the DoT should reduce the base price of the spectrum for the upcoming auctions. At the same time, the price should be reduced to the extent where the operators feel comfortable. If the price is high, the operators will just avoid investing a lot of their money into the spectrum, which will affect the way Indians consume 5G network services, at least in the first few months or a year. Indian Government Needs to Take Special Care of the 5G Spectrum PricingThe pricing of the 5G spectrum is going to be very crucial, both for the operators and the government. This is because the spectrum sale is potential revenue for the government, while the spectrum allotment means the telcos can expand their network more powerfully and provide even better services. According to a Livemint report, the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) said that the Indian government must reduce the base price of the 5G spectrum. This is because if the price is not reduced, it will likely result in 50% to 60% of the spectrum going unsold. Further, if the spectrum price is not reduced, the cost for the deployment of the 5G networks will go high. This will result in an increased price of the 5G plans for the end consumers as the telcos will look to recover the cost from their subscribers. There might also be a scenario where the operators might ditch the spectrum purchase in the auctions and just go live with their 5G networks with the help of the 4G spectrum.

Since work from home has become the new normal, the work culture has inclined towards online platforms. Even for entertainment purposes, a high-speed internet connection is crucial. However, along with internet speed, the quality of the router is also important for a hassle-free experience. In this article, we will list some of the benefits of broadband routers that elevates your internet experience. Dual or Tri-Band CapabilitiesEarlier broadband routers were equipped with a single band. However, modern internet service providers provide broadband routers that are equipped with multiple bands. The most common broadband router offered to users is the dual-band router. Users get to choose between 2.4Ghz and 5 GHz. If users pick the 2.4 GHz frequency band, it increases the coverage of the connection but reduces the internet speed due to lower bandwidth. However, if users pick up the 5Ghz frequency band, they get a higher bandwidth internet connection. But the range of internet connection gets limited.Enhanced Security FeaturesWe all can agree to the fact the technology is ever-changing and evolving. The recent developments around the security threats have been accounted to provide a risk-free experience to users. The modern broadband routers offered to users are equipped with the latest security features to neutralize any potential threat that would lead to loss of data and privacy breaches.User-Friendly InterfaceEarlier broadband routers were designed using complex methods and procedures, which made the user interface difficult to navigate and understand. However, the new broadband routers are designed with the motive to offer a comfortable and hassle-free experience to users.Bandwidth AllocationIf you are not aware, the modern broadband routers are equipped with a Quality of Service QoS feature that allows users to allocate bandwidth to specific apps and devices. With the help of QoS, users get to adjust their internet bandwidth as per their requirements.Special FeaturesThe modern-day broadband routers are equipped with special features to give users complete control over their connection. With the help of features, users can restrict access to the internet for specific users, attach external devices, change passwords and more. Recently, both wired and wireless routers are offered by broadband service providers that come with unique and intriguing features. However, the demand for wireless routers is constantly increasing because of their easy setup and user-friendly interface. According to an ET Telecom report, UBS said that with these smartphone offers, Jio would be tightening its grip on the mid-range segment consumers. Reliance Jio Partnering Up With Samsung, Oppo, Vivo, HMD Global and MoreReliance Jio is said to be signing reverse handset bundling partnerships with smartphone brands such as Oppo, HMD Global (Nokia), Vivo, iTel, Samsung, Xiaomi, and more. UBS said that this strategy of the company is to increase its subscriber base aggressively. It will be a compliment to the company's strategy of coming out with the JioPhone Next on September 10, 2021. These Jio SIM locked phones would help the company in increasing its subscriber base very easily. Further, with the help of the POS devices, Jio will be able to maximise its sales from offline stores. These POS devices are said to offer exclusive discounts to customers. The 'Jio Exclusive' phones are said to come with price support for up to 6 months and offer additional benefits to the users (Rs 7,000 to Rs 10,000). | BSNL 5G NSA and SA Networks Can Come By 2022 Posted: 30 Aug 2021 04:39 AM PDT Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is currently battling for coming out with 4G networks. At such a time, it has been said that the state-run telco's 5G non-standalone (NSA) networks could come as early as the end of 2022. Further, by 2023, BSNL could come out with 5G standalone (SA) networks as well. If you are thinking that BSNL is directly going for 5G and skipping 4G, well, that's not happening. The telco's major focus still is to come out with the 4G networks around India as soon as possible and then later upgrade it to 5G. Now the Indian companies that are likely to be part of BSNL's 4G network drive are almost confirmed. BSNL 4G Networks Likely to be Deployed By These CompaniesIn July 2021, BSNL gave a letter of intent to five select bidders that would be using Indian core technology for helping the telco deploy 4G networks and possibly 5G in the future. But now, as per an ET Telecom report, multiple companies have backed out of the process after having failures with the integration of partners supplying core network technology. The state-run telco will further cancel their security deposit of Rs 5 crore that each of them provided. The only companies that are now left in the mix include the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DoT), Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), and Tejas Networks. So it is most likely that these companies are going to deploy India's first indigenous 4G network for BSNL. Rajkumar Upadhyay, Executive Director and Board Chairman, C-DoT, said that the 4G network deployment would help the company (BSNL) in upgrading to 5G fast. Upadhyay said that India could see BSNL's first 5G NSA network as early as late 2022 and 5G SA network by 2023. If this is true, it is great news for BSNL fans because that would mean the telco won't be as late with 5G as it is with 4G. |
Bharti Airtel Will Not Shy Away from Raising Tariffs: Mittal Posted: 30 Aug 2021 03:40 AM PDT Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairperson, Bharti Enterprises said that Airtel won't shy away from increasing tariffs. Mittal has time and again said that the industry needs tariff hikes to sustain and the average revenue per user (ARPU) should be near Rs 200 at least. Bharti Airtel recently discontinued its Rs 49 prepaid plan. The telco started offering the base plan of Rs 79 to the users. This wasn't a bad move for the company since it knew that Jio's cheap plans would require users to purchase a new 4G device and Vodafone Idea (Vi) would follow it in increasing the tariffs for the base plan. But now, according to a tweet from Assem Manchanda, the base tariffs can further go to Rs 99. Manchanda Quoted Sunil Bharti Mittal, Founder and Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, saying that the base tariffs of the company are going to move from Rs 79 to Rs 99. Time for Tariff Hikes: Sunil Bharti MittalAs per another tweet from Manchanda, Mittal said that it is time for tariff hikes. This will be yet another push from Bharti Airtel that's not going to benefit Jio majorly. Users will be forced to recharge with at least Rs 99 to keep their numbers active and keep getting calls. In a short span, the users will be paying almost 100% more amount than Rs 49 for getting the base plan from Bharti Airtel. It is very much likely that Vodafone Idea will also increase its tariffs looking at Bharti Airtel. Jio again won't be able to benefit much because its very cheap prepaid plans that require a subscription to JioPhone. It will be interesting to see if Jio can come out with an affordable entry-level 4G plan that's paired with the JioPhone Next. It will likely drive subscribers up for the company. As for the case of complete tariff hikes, the telcos aren't expected to go after it ruthlessly. Jio isn't expected to make any changes to its tariff structure as of now. The telcos will be looking at building a bigger subscriber base before they launch 5G services and plans to maximise their revenues from the next generation connectivity networks.

Prepaid Subscriber Revenue Grew Despite No Tariff Hike in Q4 FY21 Posted: 29 Aug 2021 10:27 PM PDT Despite no tariff hikes in Q4 FY21, the telecom sector revenue from prepaid subscribers grew both quarterly and yearly. At the same time, there was a dip in revenue from postpaid subscribers on a yearly basis, but on a quarterly basis, the sector saw a positive growth. With the revenues from the prepaid segment growing, the industry saw a rise in average revenue per user (ARPU) both on a quarterly and yearly basis. Bharti Airtel's 4G subscriber market share during the quarter improved and went up to 24.6%, which is up by 85bps Quarter-on-Quarter (QoQ) and 310bps Year-on-Year (YoY). Further, the company has gained a substantial market share in data usage, which rose to 110bps QoQ and 490bps YoY to 33.1%. At the same time, Reliance Jio's 4G subscriber market share dipped by 60bps QoQ and 315bps YoY to 58%. But this wouldn't have troubled Jio a lot since the telco knew it would add all of these subscribers back. Indian Consumers Spent Rs 400 Billion On Mobile Services In Q4 FY21According to a report from ICICI Securities, In Q4 FY21, Indian consumers spent more money on purchasing mobile services. Indians spent Rs 400 billion in the quarter, which is 2.6% more QoQ and 12.4% more YoY on consuming mobile services from the telecom operators. This is without the presence of a tariff hike. More 4G subscribers came into the pool, and the total 4G users grew by 4.5% QoQ (net additions 31.4 million) to 729 million. This is a good thing since the operators can stand a chance to earn even more with tariff hikes in the future. But those hikes are expected to come in a phased manner since the telcos will be pushing to increase their market share in terms of subscribers at the moment so that they can maximise their 5G revenues in the future.
iPhone 14 Might Not Go According to Apple’s Plan Posted: 29 Aug 2021 08:57 PM PDT While the iPhone 13 is around the corner, the iPhone 14 is something a lot of people have already started talking about. Anyone who is aware of how the smartphone industry works, he/she would know that Apple might already be working on the iPhone 14 and perfecting it to ensure that it is the most powerful smartphone from Apple in 2022. But there's a huge problem that Apple might face with the iPhone 14. While Apple designs everything in-house, the company gets the components of the smartphone manufactured from someone else. The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) manufactures the chipsets for the iPhones. Apple iPhone 14 Might Come With a Different Chipset Than Apple Had PlannedApple might not be able to bring the 3nm process A16 Bionic chipset on the iPhone 14 series. There were a lot of speculations that Apple might bring the iPhone 14 series to the market powered by a 3nm process SoC. But looking at the industry and the delays that TSMC is facing in manufacturing chipsets, it looks like Apple might not be able to bring its plans to life. According to multiple reports online, due to the delays in manufacturing, TSMC might not be able to deliver the A16 Bionic based on the 3nm process to Apple in time for assembling the iPhone 14 series. Thus, instead of packing the 3nm based chipsets, Apple iPhone 14 series might come with the 4nm based chipsets instead. The 4nm chipsets for Apple might go into production in the fourth quarter of this year. It is not just Apple but Samsung and Qualcomm that might not be able to deliver 3nm based chipsets because of the supply chain issue. The shortage of chipsets in the global market has stressed the smartphone industry to an extent, and it has also resulted in smartphones getting a bit more expensive than they were supposed to be.
BSNL Rs 997 Plan Has an Edge Over Airtel, Jio and Vi Posted: 29 Aug 2021 06:38 PM PDT Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has been low-key, introducing some really great prepaid plans in India. The state-run telco is considered inferior to the private operators, including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), because it doesn't have an existing PAN-India 4G network. Regardless of that, there are some 3G/4G prepaid plans from BSNL that users around the country can't ignore. One such plan is the Rs 997 plan. Let's see what this plan offers to the users and why it gives BSNL an edge over its private competitors. BSNL Rs 997 Plan Benefits DetailedBSNL offers a Rs 997 plan to the users. It is available for users throughout the country, and it is a plan voucher. The PV_997 comes with a validity of 180 days which is great for users who are looking for an affordable long-term plan. This plan offers users unlimited voice calling to any network in India along with 100 SMS/day. Further, this plan offers users 3GB of daily data to the users for the entire validity. In comparison, Reliance Jio offers a Rs 999 plan that comes with 3GB daily data, unlimited voice calling, and 100 SMS/day as well. But this plan comes with a validity of 84 days which is 96 days lesser than what BSNL offers with its plan. Users are entitled to receive a complimentary subscription to a suite of Jio apps, including JioCinema, JioTV, JioNews, JioCloud, and JioSecurity. Surprisingly, Bharti Airtel has no plans in this range as of now. The telco used to offer a Rs 998 plan earlier, but that isn't available on the company's website or the mobile app anymore. This is a good price range for Bharti Airtel to experiment with its users' loyalty and capacity to pay more for prepaid plans. Thus, it is completely blinding that Airtel isn't offering a single plan in this range to compete with Jio and BSNL. Even Vodafone Idea (Vi) isn't offering a single prepaid plan in this price range. But Vi used to offer a Rs 999 plan which the company has discontinued. It is worth noting that both Airtel and Vi used to offer the same benefits with their Rs 998 and Rs 999 plan, which included only 12GB of data per year without any daily fair-usage-policy (FUP) limit. But these plans came with 336 (Airtel) and 365 (Vi) days validities. Thus, at the moment, if someone's looking for a prepaid plan priced close to Rs 1,000, BSNL has got the best offer for them.
