Vodafone Idea Will Have to Pay Lakhs of Rupees to a Customer

Posted: 11 Sep 2021 06:55 AM PDT

Vodafone Idea Will Have to Pay Lakhs of Rupees to Customer The IT department of Rajasthan recently ordered the merged telecom service provider Vodafone Idea to pay a fine of Rs 27.5 lakh to a customer. The reason for slapping this fine is that one person claimed a duplicate SIM of another customer without any verification. The customer who received the SIM card due to the company's mistake was able to withdraw a whopping Rs 68 lakh from the account of the first customer as the SIM card was linked to his overdraft facility. Notably, the funds were transferred illegally from his account with the help of a duplicate cellphone SIM card that was issued by Vi. While the issuance of duplicate SIM cards requires several verifications, there has been poor verification of the ID proofs of the customer in this case.

Vi Issues Duplicate SIM To Wrong Customer

According to TOI, the case pertains to one Bhanu Pratap, who was given the duplicate SIM card that belonged to another customer. Using this situation, the former had transferred Rs 68.5 lakh from the latter's IDBI Bank account to his accounts. As per the report., Krishna Lal Nain, a Vi user's mobile number, stopped working in May 2017. He visited the store of Vi in Hanumangarh and filed a complaint. He received a new number, but it was inactive despite numerous complaints. This is when he visited a Jaipur store and submitted the complaint to activate the SIM. It was then activated the next day. By this time, the accused got the duplicate SIM and transferred the above-mentioned amount illegally using OTPs. Reportedly, the victim was able to access his SIM card five days after receiving it. Once it was activated, he received messages that money had been withdrawn from his account. This is when the customer complained about the incident and claimed Vi to compensate him under the IT Act. A police case was registered, and the accused who withdrew the money was arrested. Of the Rs 68 lakh, he returned Rs 44 lakh to the customer. However, the remaining amount is pending, and the customer has filed another complaint about this under the IT Act. Vi has been fined here for improper verification of the customer data and delay in the activation of the new SIM card.

Indian Smartwatch Brands Dominate Shipments In Q2 2021 Smartwatches are a rage among buyers as many want to use wearables for various purposes. As there is a surge in the demand for smartwatches, several new players have entered this segment. Now, the smartwatch market has not only grown but has also turned highly competitive with several brands launching their offerings.

Growth Of Smartwatches

As per the research from Counterpoint's IoT Service, there is a massive growth in smartwatch shipments in India. The smartwatch shipments in the country have tripled in the second quarter of this year as compared to the same period in 2020. Also, there is a year-on-year growth of 206 per cent and quarter-on-quarter growth of 18 per cent during this quarter. The key factors that have contributed to the surge in smartwatch shipments include new players, affordable offerings, customer preferences, and post-COVID demand recovery. Well, the smartwatch market is highly competitive as many players are entering the segment. Notably, traditional watches are ditched for smartwatches of late due to their feature-rich interface as well as compatibility with smartphones. Also, the availability of smartwatches at relatively affordable price points has contributed to this growth.

Indian Smartwatch Brands Top Charts

Talking about successful brands, homegrown brands dominate this market segment by capturing the top three slots. Also, these brands have over a three-fifth share of the wearable market in the country. Notably. Noise tops the chart for the fourth consecutive year and boAt Storm dominates the bestselling list in Q2 2021. Furthermore, the market is projected to grow further with more brands gearing up to launch their products in the future. Nearly 10 brands have already forayed into this segment since the advent of 2021. The highlight is that the domestic production growth has also increased. Already, Samsung is producing smartwatches since June 2020 and brands such as Realme and Timex are exploring options to produce their offerings in the country. Eventually, this will rminimise the cost of wearables as there will be no imports. Counterpoint Research goes on to state that the growth comes from smartwatches priced under Rs 5,000 and this has contributed to 83 per cent of the total sales in Q2 2021 while this was 67 per cent in the same period last year. DoT Complaint Against MSAI Registered By Delhi Police

Posted: 11 Sep 2021 02:17 AM PDT

DoT On Wednesday, the Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing (EOW) registered a case on the complaint of DoT against MSAI (Mobile Standard Alliance of India). It was claimed that MSAI allegedly failed to provide data related to international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) to the government.

Dot Files Complaint Against MSAI

As per R K Singh, the Additional commissioner of police of Economic Offences Wing, a case has been filed. As per the police, back in 2015, DoT issued a standard operating procedure (SOP) to prohibit the import of mobile phones using fake, duplicate and non-genuine IMEI certificates. Also, the government implemented the same via the IMEI cloning and duplication restriction (ICDR) system. This system was operated by MSAI, London-based GSMA’s erstwhile reporting body. Eventually, MSAI was responsible for all operations in the country since 2015. However, from April 2019, the GSMA reporting body in India for type allocation code (TAC) was taken over by another organisation. Notably, TAC is the first eight digits you can see in IMEI number, added the complainant to the police. Following this, DoT wrote a letter to MSAI claiming that it was not let to operate ICDR and was asked to hand over all data pertaining to IMEI certificates, user account detatils of manufacturers, brands, importers, and custom offices, and imported devices.

The Background Of This Issue

Going by the claim of police, MSAI’s reply to this letter noted that the project was handed over to GSMA and MSAI, so it was necessary to get a mutual consent and understanding of both parties in order to proceed with the further process. In 2020, DoT wrote another letter urging MSAI to give the data and configuration to close the operations of ICDR. However, due to the lockdown imposed by COVID-19, the office was closed and they couldn’t process the request of DoT. Going further, DoT let MSAI provide the data within seven days of the unlock phase in Delhi, added the complainant but there wasn’t any response from MSAI on this front. Later, in August 2020, there was a final opportunity given to MSAI to surrender the data but it failed once again. After numerous failures by MSAI, a DoT official filed the complaint and the police registered a case under various sections of IPC after an investigation. During the process, investigators are probing if MSAI generated IMEI certificates after being directed to close the ICDR operations.

Oppo Enco Buds First Impressions: Oddly Beautiful

Posted: 11 Sep 2021 12:50 AM PDT

Oppo Oppo Enco Buds were launched by Oppo just two days back. These are low-budget and affordable truly wireless stereo (TWS) earphones that are supposed to work just like the high-end TWS earphones. The Enco buds will play a major role in the rise of the TWS earphone industry if they can deliver what the company has promised. Right out of the box, there are a few things that are very noticeable about these TWS earphones; let's go over them.

Oppo Enco Buds First Impressions: Body and Design

Oppo The Oppo Enco Buds are very light to hold. You won't feel tired of holding the case, not that you will need to hold it since the charging case can easily fit inside your pocket because of its comfortable oval shape. The Oppo branding at the top is very light, and it looks pretty classy, to be honest. No one would be able to take a guess at its low price because of the way the charging case looks. Oppo Right below the lid, there's a small light that turns green when you open the case. Opening and closing the charging case feels very easy since you can do it with a single hand. At the bottom of the case, there is general information, nothing that you will need to go through. The buds look odd but beautiful. These are not the most different looking buds, and they look quite a lot like Samsung Galaxy Buds, but still, you will be able to differentiate between the two. It is quite easy to pick the buds out from the box and place them back inside. Oppo Enco Buds The magnet inside the charging case is pretty strong, and it holds the earphones pretty well. Even turning the case upside down didn't result in the earphones falling down, which makes me feel a lot secure if I am using them for the long term. I would say the Oppo Enco Buds are "cute". They don't look like affordable earphones. If you have them in your hands and someone tells you they are worth Rs 10,000, you would believe them. But the worth of the earphones can't just be decided by the way they look. It is important for the Oppo Enco Buds to deliver what it is truly supposed to – a great sound experience. Here's what I felt about the sound delivered by Oppo Enco Buds.

Oppo Enco Buds First Impressions: Sound Experience and Fit

Oppo Enco Oppo Enco Buds are truly exceptional. I know it’s too early to say this, but I don't think my views are going to change. I put on the earphones to listen to one Arijit Singh song, and man, I am blown away, and I have heard a whole lot of other artists because I just don't want to stop. I was wondering the whole time – "are these earphones really this affordable?" But I will just calm down for now and review it for a while and post my final views in a few days. The Oppo Enco Buds deliver a great sound experience. The bass is really good, and they might just be raising the standards. I have used the OnePlus Buds Z, which cost a lot more than the Enco Buds, and the bass is just better with these affordable earphones from Oppo. I am not going to delve more into the sound experience right away because there are a lot more things that I need to do before I determine how good they are. The Oppo Enco Buds fit really well inside my ears. The fit is just perfect, and the company also provides additional ear tips inside the packaging for ensuring that customers can find their perfect fit, which is standard. I have plans of taking the Oppo Enco Buds in my next run since they are sweat and dust resistant. Further, I will see how they perform while gaming. There are a few more things that I plan to do with these super affordable TWS earphones from Oppo, but more on that when I come out with the final review.

Oppo Enco Buds First Impressions: Price

Oppo Enco Buds First Impression The Oppo Enco Buds have launched for a price of Rs 1,999 in India. But people who purchase it between September 14 and September 16, 2021, can get it for a special price of Rs 1,799. At this price, the Oppo Enco Buds might become unbeatable in India. Even at such a low cost, they don't feel anything short of premium, which is a good thing. For now, the Oppo Enco Buds look very exciting. The Enco Buds can truly be game-changers if they can deliver on everything the company has claimed they can. It will be interesting to see over the next few days how its batteries pan out and just how it performs during multiplayer gaming.

WhatsApp Brings Major Feature for Chat Backups

Posted: 10 Sep 2021 09:37 PM PDT

WhatsApp Facebook-owned text application WhatsApp has revealed a new feature that will make backing up data safer for users. One of the things that people have loved about WhatsApp until now is just how safe the chatting experience is inside the application. All the chats the users engage in, be it groups or individual chats, people can sit safely because all of their chat is end-to-end encrypted. But the same wasn't the case with cloud backups. WhatsApp didn't offer encrypted cloud backups, neither for iOS nor Android devices. But that's changing now.

WhatsApp Now Offering Encrypted Chat Backups

Mark Zuckerberg broke the news to the world by writing in a post that WhatsApp is now the only texting application in the world that offers both encrypted messaging and backups. Zuckerberg mentioned that it wasn't easy reaching such a stage since there were a lot of technical challenges.

WhatsApp Will Allow Users to Backup Chats This Way

WhatsApp said that it will now allow its users to backup their chat data with the help of encryption keys. This will be available for both iOS and Android devices. Users can lock their chat backup by using a 64-digit encryption key that can be stored offline, or they can also create a password that will back up their encryption key in a cloud-based "backup key vault" developed by WhatsApp. What's worth noting here is that the cloud-stored encryption key can't be used without the user's password and the good thing is that WhatsApp doesn't know that password. This will ensure that your chat backup data is absolutely safe. WhatsApp said users could even reset the password in case they forget it. But it will be important for the users to store their 64-digit encryption key safely because if they lose that, WhatsApp won't be able to help them. Losing the encryption key would mean users will lose their complete chats.

Tata Sky Binge Service Is What Users Need In 2021

Posted: 10 Sep 2021 06:36 PM PDT

Tata Sky Binge Service Tata Sky is one of the most successful Direct-to-Home (DTH) platforms in the history of India. The DTH company has been very innovative with its services and has helped Indians consume satellite television content with convenience. But the satellite TV era is slowly fading away. More and more people in the urban areas are shifting to over-the-top (OTT) platforms for consuming entertainment content. Almost every channel company is also looking to bundle its services into an OTT package such as Sony, Star, and more. While subscribing to one OTT Platform is affordable for many, subscribing to multiple isn't very pocket friendly. Especially if that includes Netflix, which is very expensive. Thus, the Tata Sky Binge service can be of great help to you in this regard. Here's what you should know about it.

Tata Sky Binge Service Is Bundling OTT Applications for You

If you are worried about paying for different OTT platforms, Tata Sky has solved that issue for you with the 'Tata Sky Binge' service. It was announced way back in 2019 and has evolved into something better now. The company started by offering a plan of Rs 249 per month, which was then bumped up to Rs 299 per month. Note that initially, the service wasn't as appealing because it only offered content from very few platforms. But in 2021, Tata Sky Binge service offers users content from 11 different OTT platforms, including Amazon Prime Video. The company offers two different plans to the users which come for Rs 149 and Rs 299. The Rs 299 plan is something you should go for if you want to consume content from every platform. However, if you want to watch from fewer platforms and are okay with consuming all of the content on your mobile phone, you can go for the Rs 149 plan from the company. The OTT platforms include Disney+ Hotstar, Amazon Prime Video, ZEE5 Premium, Voot Select, Hungama Play, and more. In 2021, getting the Rs 299 plan for watching OTT content directly on your TV from multiple platforms is not a bad deal. In fact, the company will provide you with a Fire TV Stick – Tata Edition without any cost. The only money you will have to pay will be for the plan. Purchasing standalone subscriptions of even three to four of these platforms for a year would make you pay around Rs 3,000 or more, which is very expensive. Thus, the Tata Sky Binge service makes more sense in 2021 than ever.
