Apple iPhone 13 Series With A15 Bionic SoC Launched in India Posted: 14 Sep 2021 12:02 PM PDT Apple has finally launched the iPhone 13 series in today's event. All the devices in the series, including the iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max, come with support for 5G connectivity. Apple has extended the support for 5G connectivity in more countries with the iPhone 13 series, which doesn't include India yet. The features of the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 13 mini are the same, which is not surprising looking at the already launched iPhone 12 series. Let's take a look at the specifications and price of the new iPhones. iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini Specifications and PriceThe iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini both come with the new a new dual-camera layout at the rear. Both the camera sensors at the rear are diagonally placed and come with 12MP lenses. Note that one of the 12MP sensors at the rear is an ultra-wide-angle lens. The new iPhones come with support for the 'Cinematic Video' shooting mode, which will take the level of capturing a video on a smartphone to something unseen and unheard of. These iPhones will be powered by the new A15 Bionic SoC. Both the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini will run on iOS 15 out of the box. Both these devices can also shoot videos in 4K 60FPS HDR. The iPhone 13 mini comes with a 5.4-inch display, and the iPhone 13 comes with a 6.1-inch display. Both these devices come with a Retina HDR display. But there's no high-refresh-rate support, unfortunately. The display of the iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini is 28% faster and can support maximum brightness of 800 nits. The iPhone 13 mini will start at Rs 69,990 in India, and the iPhone 13 will start at Rs 79,990. Both the devices come for exactly the same price as the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12 when they were launched. The best thing is, this time, the base model will come with 128GB storage. So the iPhone 13 mini with 128GB will cost Rs 69,990; with 256GB will cost Rs 79,990; and with 512GB will cost Rs 99,990. The iPhone 13 models will be Rs 10,000 more expensive than the iPhone 13 mini models and will be available in the same storage configuration. These iPhones will be available in five colour options – Pink, Midnight, Blue, Starlight, and Product Red.iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max Specifications and PriceThe iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max come in a new 'Sierra Blue' colour variant. The specifications of these devices are largely the same as the iPhone 13 mini and the iPhone 13 since they have the same hardware and processors. But the difference comes in the camera abilities of the devices. The iPhone 13 Pro will come with a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 13 Pro Max will come with a 6.7-inch display. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro both support Cinematic Video mode as well. The biggest thing about all the iPhone 13 series devices is that they come with better battery life than the iPhone 12 series devices. Further, the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max can support a high refresh rate of up to 120Hz. The company will not provide the charger in the box. Apart from minor differences, the iPhone 13 series looks very much like the iPhone 12 series only. The iPhone 13 Pro will be available for Rs 1,19,990 (128GB), Rs 1,29,990 (256GB), Rs 1,49,990 (512GB), and Rs 1,69,990 (1TB). The iPhone 13 Pro Max on the other hand is also Rs 10,000 more expensive for all the same storage configurations.

Smartphones In India Are Going to Get More Expensive Posted: 14 Sep 2021 08:19 AM PDT We are nearing the festive season in India but we are likely to witness the launch of fewer smartphones as the prices. What’s shocking is that the prices of existing smartphones are likely to shoot up by 7 to 10 per cent. This price hike could be attributed to the severe shortage of components such as semiconductor chips. Supply Chain IssuesAs per PTI, there is a massive demand for semiconductors as the trends such as online education and remote working have grown during the ongoing pandemic crisis. This growth in semiconductor demand has subjected the global supply chains to a huge strain. In China, the freight costs have skyrocketed, thereby pressurising the device manufacturers. Notably, China accounts for a majority of components supplied to be used in electronic devices in India. As per Tarun Pathak, the Counterpoint Research Director, the supply chain shortage is likely to continue to leave an impact on the mobile phone industry for two more quarters. He added that the important festive season will be impacted in numerous ways such as fewer new models, delayed launches and a price hike as mentioned above for existing devices. Also, there will be fewer offers for buyers. However, the demand for new models is likely to stay strong during the festive season. Besides chip shortage, the chipsets are to be impacted and this is to stay until the second half of 2021.Shortage In 5G ChipsetsWhen it comes to the 5G chipsets, it is estimated that there will be a relatively better situation for the 5G chipsets as the premium ones crunch easily in the latter half of this year. Also, in the mainstream market aka mass market, the 5G chipsets will be in short supply. Notably, these manufacturing facilities are said to be used for the manufacturing of chips in the country. While orders from the smartphone industry are of high priority when compared to the other segments by the fabrication units, there will be a prioritisation. As per Realme Vice President and India and Europe Chief Executive Officer Madhav Sheth, the shortage in the chipset is a challenging issue for smartphone manufacturers. He noted that as production and distribution facilities are open, these expand operations gradually. He added that the chipset shortage will see some relaxation only post the second quarter of 2022.
Vi, Airtel, Jio Will Benefit from Recent Changes Posted: 14 Sep 2021 07:06 AM PDT Vodafone Idea, Bharti Airtel, and Reliance Jio, the three private telecom operators of the nation, will certainly benefit from the recent changes that have kicked in. The changes that are being referred to here are the change in tariffs and offers provided to the customers. In the September quarter, multiple things took place, such as telcos removed their base plans to earn more out of low average revenue per user (ARPU) customers. Then the telcos introduced bulk data plans with new validities, which were slightly on the more expensive end. Telcos even withdrew the offers and benefits (talktime and data) that they were providing to their customers. Consumers Will Spend More in September QuarterWith all the changes that have happened, the telcos are surely going to earn more. Consumer spends are going to increase substantially, which will help the operators in increasing their ARPU. With their ARPU slightly increased, the operators are expected to continue exploring ways to expand their subscriber market share until 5G comes, but that is a topic of discussion for some other day. Even the pandemic situation has improved very much now, which will further let the telcos add more users aggressively. The telecom operators aren't even offering SMS benefits in their low-end plans, which will mean that low-income users won't have the ability to port to the other networks. For keeping the SMS benefits, consumers will have to spend more. Further, if the relief package comes and tariff hikes are followed by that, it will mean that the telecom operators will be in a very good position instantly. This will further push people outside of the industry to invest their money in the sector resulting in an even better scenario for everyone involved. Few things which might still bug the operators are adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues, spectrum usage charges (SUC), and the inability to surrender unused spectrum. Hopefully, things will change for the sector very soon.
Motorola Planning to Launch Budget 5G Smartphones In India With Maximum Band Support Posted: 14 Sep 2021 06:52 AM PDT Motorola, a smartphone maker owned by Lenovo said that it will consider bringing the cost of its 5G smartphones down. At the same time, it has also ensured that it will offer 'true 5G' experience with maximum band support unlike rival brands despite the price reduction. As per ET, Prashanth Mani, Motorola Executive Director of Asia Pacific, the company's commitment is to provide maximum band support. To date, they are clear about the frequency that will be used. It will not be fair from the consumers' perspective to offer support only to specific bands. Moreover, these bands will not be upgraded via software as there aren't any hardware RF components that are required. A true 5G device should give customers all the bands that they may need. Motorola Offers Maximum 5G Band SupportThe executive went on stating that Motorola is offering support for up to 13 5G bands in its smartphones. On the other hand, rival handset makers offer support for a meagre two or three 5G bands. Currently, the 5G smartphones are priced under Rs 15,000 in India. Notably, OnePlus and Realme have revealed that they will support C-band including N77 and N78 5G bands, which operate between 3.2 GHz and 4.2 GHz frequency range. As of now, the 5G bands are yet to be decided. It will be mmwave and sub-6, he added. Furthermore, the executive said that there is a possibility that various states will use various 5G bands. In India, there is a possibility to support 13 bands to ensure that users of Motorola smartphones experience true 5G. Also, the Motorola smartphones are said to be 5G ready at the time of their launch. It was noted that Motorola's strategy is to bring 5G connectivity to all over India and the world. He added that they are a strong believer in 5G for all and they believe that 5G will become more relevant. Also, they will take the pricing of 5G smartphones down to make them more affordable. However, this does not mean that there will be no Motorola 4G smartphones, he cleared. It was confirmed that they are witnessing tremendous success for their 4G smartphones as well.
Wi-Fi Mesh Routers Can Ease Broadband Experience for You Posted: 14 Sep 2021 05:33 AM PDT Have you commonly experienced dead zones of Wi-Fi in some parts of your home? If that is the case, then you need to know that it is a common issue faced by many people. If you want to resolve this issue, then a simple option is to use a mesh network. Notably, mesh networks offer a seamless connection to Wi-Fi all throughout your home and the exteriors. Also, the network is quite simple to set up as well as maintain. Apparently, it is not surprising to see that mesh networks are being popularly used in households all over the country for Wi-Fi requirements. If you are looking forward to knowing how a mesh network can improve your home Wi-Fi, then here's how to set up the same and how it functions. What Is Wi-Fi Mesh Network?A mesh network is not linear, unlike a standard network. It has components that communicate in a straight path. It is similar to a spiderweb with components that connect via multiple directions. A well-positioned mesh network lets you achieve comprehensive coverage. When it comes to benefits, your home is likely to be equipped with just a modem and router. These essential pieces of gear can be bundled to form a gateway. Mesh networks are differentiated by the use of multiple, smaller routers called nodes. The primary node acts as the main router you are using and will be connected to your ISP's modem. The other notes will pick up the wireless signal and spread it across your home. Notably, the remote notes will not directly communicate with the primary router but they rely on each other for a robust home Wi-Fi connection.Mesh Network Or Wireless ExtenderBasically, a wireless extender works with the same intention as the mesh networks. It intends to provide better Wi-Fi coverage in your home. A disadvantage of using a wireless extender is that you need to switch networks manually for better coverage as you move between the rooms in your home. Also, it restricts your ability to move around without interrupting the connectivity. This could be an issue while binge-watching, online gaming, etc.
iPhone Users Want to Upgrade Faster Than Android Users: CIRP Posted: 14 Sep 2021 03:14 AM PDT In a few hours, the next-generation iPhones in the iPhone 13 series will be unveiled. In the meantime, a new report suggests that iPhones are usually exchanged at a higher rate than Android smartphones. It is claimed that almost one-third of the Apple trade-ins are done for an upgrade. iPhone Users Prefer UpgradesAs per a survey by Consumer Intelligence Research Partners (CIRP), over 35 per cent of iPhone owners with a new or used device over a period of 12 months ending in June have either sold or exchanged their old model. Of them, nearly, 30% have exchanged their iPhones while over 5% have sold their device. This survey involves 2,000 smartphone users in the US, reported AppleInsider. In comparison with Android users, only a meagre 5 per cent of Android smartphone users upgrade their smartphones' hardware in the same period and have sold their device. Likewise, only 10 per cent have traded in their Android smartphones seeking an upgrade. The upgrades for iPhone are more common as the same is driven by Apple's iPhone Upgrade Programme. This program lets users get a new iPhone every year by simply paying a monthly fee. Furthermore, nearly 50 per cent of the Android smartphones are retained by uses whereas only 29 per cent of users with an iPhone retain their devices in a year, claimed the survey. It indicates that Android users hold on their smartphones for future use while iPhone users feel that it is worthwhile to either sell or exchange their old hardware.Android vs iPhone Usage TrendsInterestingly, 10 per cent of the Android devices out there were recycled, which is more than double the number as reported by iPhone users. The report notes that nearly 14 per cent of Android smartphones were stolen, lost or broken. There isn't any stark difference with the iPhones as 12 per cent of iPhones are reportedly lost, broken or stolen. With usage, wear and tear is quite common. Going by the same, 84 per cent of iPhone users with an old model claim to have a scratched but usable or perfect display. On the other hand, a relatively lower 70 per cent of users with an old Android smartphone claim so.
DoT Definition of Local Telecom Equipment Is Wrong: TEMA Posted: 14 Sep 2021 12:55 AM PDT The Government of India (GoI) has made it is clear that telcos can't source telecom equipment from untrusted sources. Further, a lot of emphases has been put on local manufacturing of the equipment. But there's friction between the local equipment manufacturers and the definition that the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has set for what constitutes local equipment. According to the Telecom Equipment Manufacturers Association of India (TEMA), DoT's definition of what constitutes local telecom equipment is wrong. TEMA said that DoT's policy would hurt the Centre's vision of making a reliable and self-dependent India. DoT Has Received Several Objections from Local Equipment ManufacturersAccording to an IndianExpress report, the DoT has received several complaints and objections from the trade bodies and local equipment manufacturers in the last 10 days over the existing definition of locally sourced products. Currently, DoT allows the companies to bring components from foreign lands and then assemble/manufacture them into a finished product within India. For DoT, this is a locally sourced product. But the equipment manufacturers said that this allows even countries like China and others to sell products to India. By simply assembling, India won't become self-reliant since there's hardly any effort or money being poured into the Research and Development (R&D) of these products. Due to this loose definition of locally sourced products, many equipment manufacturers plans' will be hurt. The Companies which were planning to expand aggressively in India looking at the government's vision of a self-reliant country will not be as fruitful as expected. Small companies have spent so much money and time in the R&D of telecom equipment and made them suitable to the recommendation of the Indian TEC standards. But with the definition that DoT has right now, it will leave these companies fighting against multinational giants such as Nokia, Ericsson, and more.
BSNL Offers Best 30 Days Prepaid Plan Among Jio, Airtel, Vi Posted: 13 Sep 2021 11:47 PM PDT Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offers some of the best-prepaid plans in India currently. Regardless of the fact that these plans are not backed by 4G networks, users can rely on these plans to get a lot of their work done. When we talk about the best 30 days plan, BSNL has a plan in its arsenal that's better than what Reliance Jio, Vodafone Idea (Vi), and Bharti Airtel offers. None of the private operators in India offers users a truly unlimited prepaid plan. While Vodafone Idea offers such a plan to the postpaid customers, only BSNL offers users a truly unlimited data plan. BSNL 4G Plan That's Better Than Jio, Airtel and Vi OfferingsBSNL offers a Rs 398 prepaid plan to the customers. This plan is called 'TrulyUnlimitedSTV_398'. It is supposed to be a data voucher, but it also bundles unlimited voice calling along with 100 SMS/day for the users. This plan offers truly unlimited data to the users. Truly unlimited means there is no fair-usage-policy (FUP) limit on the amount of data that users can consume. The plan's validity is 30 days, so the users can get unlimited data from the company's networks without any worry. As mentioned above, neither Jio nor the other two private operators provide their users with such a plan. This puts this plan from the telco in a truly new league. Many would argue that this is a much better offering than purchasing a Rs 399 postpaid plan from any of the private operators. Even though its cost is high, the plan's benefits completely make sense. If only such a plan was backed by 4G networks throughout the country, it would have put BSNL in a different light altogether. The state-run telco is working on rolling out 4G networks, and more updates about the same should emerge in the coming days. There are more unique vouchers from the company that users can purchase. All of them are available on the website of the company.
Vodafone Idea Stock Sees Strong Opening On Tuesday Posted: 13 Sep 2021 11:19 PM PDT Vodafone Idea's (Vi) stock has seen a strong opening on Tuesday. The news around banks urging the government to ease the pressure on the telco has worked its way. At the time of writing, Vi's stock is at Rs 8.20 which is 3.14% in the green. The stock had closed at Rs 7.95 yesterday and opened at the same price. It also touched a high of Rs 8.30 in the morning session. Bharti Airtel however is in the red today morning after touching a lifetime high mark yesterday. So what's caused this surge in the stock price of Vodafone Idea? Vodafone Idea Stock Price Surged Because of ThisA stock can move up and down because of multiple reasons. Sometimes it is a new policy coming into effect or an announcement from the company or more. Right now, the only thing that's evidently moving the stock price up is the reports of banks urging the government to ease the pressure on Vodafone Idea. Apart from this, there has been no announcement from the company nor is there any other form of good news that has arrived for the sector. One more reason that Vi could be in the green today is its high volatility. Whenever a stock is highly volatile, it attracts a lot of intra-day traders. A highly volatile stock falls very fast and gains very fast. Using this to their advantage, short-term traders purchase the dip and sell in the high. Note that this is just speculation on my end and this might not be the reason after all. But it is something worth considering. Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the parent company of Reliance Jio, is in the green as well. At the time of the writing, RIL is trading 0.38% in the green at Rs 2,380. It will be interesting to follow Vi's stock in the coming days because there are a lot of announcements that are going to come related to 5G, relief package, AGR dues, and more.
Samsung One UI 4.0 Beta Program Live for Galaxy S21 Series In US Posted: 13 Sep 2021 10:47 PM PDT Usually, Samsung will launch its smartphones powered by its custom skin One UI on top of the latest iteration of Android at that time. This Samsung UI will bring in loads of customisations, including pre-loaded apps such as Galaxy Store, gesture controls, and much more. Recently, we saw that Samsung One UI 4.0, the latest generation custom skin from the company that will be based on Android 12 OS, will be delayed. After a set of teasers regarding the same, it looks like the wait for the Samsung One UI 4.0 is over now. Today, the One UI 4.0 beta program will be open for users of the flagship Galaxy S21 smartphone in the US, claims Android Authority. The beta participants are encouraged to share their feedback with the Samsung engineers so that they can build the best version of One UI possible. Samsung One UI 4.0 Beta TestingTo sign up for the beta testing of the Samsung One UI 4.0 and submit your feedback, you need to have the Samsung Members app and use any of the Galaxy S21 series smartphones launched earlier this year. As of now, only the 2021 flagship models from the company are eligible for the Samsung One UI 4.0 beta program. It is tipped that additional models could join by the end of this year. Also, it will be rolled out to more global markets in the next future. With the Samsung Members app, there will be a banner ad promoting the One UI 4.0 beta program. Users need to just tap on it and follow the instructions to try the new iteration of the custom ROM. Given that it is a beta program, not all users of the flagship Galaxy S21 devices will be able to test the custom skin.Samsung One UI 4.0 FeaturesSamsung claims that the Oe UI 4.0 version based on Android 12 was built with input from developers. Eventually, it is touted to deliver tools and innovations that are needed to create quality apps and experiences for users. It is expected to feature similar design improvements as Android 12. Also, Samsung hinted that the beta version would have a collection of theme options, and the users will be able to adjust the look and capability of their device with these themes.
OnePlus 9 RT Launch Date Leaked Posted: 13 Sep 2021 09:14 PM PDT If you are a OnePlus fan, you might be waiting for the company to come out with the OnePlus 9T. But this year, instead of coming out with the ‘T’ version of its flagship series OnePlus 9, the company will come out with the ‘T’ version of the OnePlus 9R. Market expectation is that it will be called OnePlus 9 RT. Now, the launch date of the OnePlus 9 RT has been leaked. According to a reliable leakster, Steve Hemmerstoffer, the smartphone's tentative launch date is October 15, 2021. This means that there isn't a lot of time left before it arrives. The reason why OnePlus might be avoiding a OnePlus 9T is to keep the sales of the OnePlus 9 devices smooth. This is because if the OnePlus 9T had come, people would have thought of purchasing the OnePlus 9T instead of the OnePlus 9, which would have been a loss for the company. Let's take a look at the expected details of the OnePlus 9 RT. OnePlus 9 RT Might Still Run On Snapdragon 870It is unlikely that the OnePlus 9 RT will come with any other chipset than Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 SoC. Further, the smartphone might become the first device from OnePlus to come with OxygenOS 12 based on Android 12 out of the box. Also, the smartphone might be exclusive for the markets of India and China only. There might not be a lot of differences in the display and other specifications between the OnePlus 9R and the OnePlus 9 RT. According to leaks, the device might feature a Sony IMX766 50MP sensor at the rear for photography. It is expected to come with a 4500mAh battery with support for 65W fast charging. Then, of course, there will be a host of new things inside the device because of the presence of Android 12. OnePlus won't price the device too exorbitantly high. It should still be well under the price of the OnePlus 9 series devices.
Vodafone Idea Has Much Better 3GB Daily Data Plan Than Jio Posted: 13 Sep 2021 06:32 PM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi) is a much talked about telecom operator these days. Especially because the telco isn't looking in great shape after the relief package wasn't announced. Regardless, Vi is providing some prepaid plans that can't be ignored. Some plans from the telco are seriously so good that they put Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel behind. If Vi could add more users with the help of these plans, it would change the course of the company. For the unaware, Vodafone Idea offers a 3GB daily data plan to the users, which is way better than what Jio is providing to its users. Which plan is it? Let's find out. Vodafone Idea (Vi) 3GB Daily Data Plan That's Better Than Jio'sVodafone Idea offers a Rs 901 prepaid plan to the users. The speciality of this plan is not just the amount of data (3GB daily data) that it comes with but also the additional benefits that users get for the price they are paying. The Rs 901 prepaid plan from Vodafone Idea comes with 3GB daily data for 84 days, while Reliance Jio offers the same plan for Rs 999, which is Rs 100 more. But it is not right to say that ‘Jio offers the same plan for Rs 999’ because, while Jio also offers 3GB daily data for 84 days, the other benefits offered by the two plans are completely different. Note that both the plans offer users unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day. But with Vodafone Idea's Rs 901 plan, users also get 48GB bonus data for the entire validity, which means the total data offered by Vi with this plan is 300GB. At the same time, Jio doesn't offer any bonus data, which means users get only 252GB of data. Then Vi users also get two additional offers from the company – 'Weekend Data Rollover' and 'Binge All Night'. These are two unique offers that neither Jio nor Airtel provides to their customers. Both these offers take the data experience for the users to the next level. But that's not all; Vodafone Idea is also offering a one-year free subscription to Disney+ Hotstar Mobile with the plan. This over-the-top (OTT) benefit costs Rs 499 per year if the users are going for a standalone subscription. Vi also offers a free subscription to Vi Movies & TV for one year. Jio gives users free subscriptions to a suite of Jio applications which include JioTV, JioCinema, JioCloud, JioNews, and JioSecurity. Looking at the cost and the benefits that each of these plans offers, it is pretty evident that the Rs 901 plan from Vi is the best as compared to the Rs 999 plan from Jio.
