Vodafone Idea Might Finally Get Fresh Capital from Promoters Posted: 20 Sep 2021 11:57 AM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi) might soon see its promoters including the Aditya Birla Group (ABG) and Vodafone Group Plc infusing fresh capital into the company. However, note that nothing is confirmed at the moment and a final decision related to the equity capital will only be taken at the board level. This makes sense because Vodafone Idea needs an external investor, they need to first see what the promoters feel about the company. Vodafone Idea to Benefit from Relief PackageVodafone Idea stands to benefit from the relief package in a major way. But for an outside investor to show confidence at a time when the promoters aren't too optimistic about putting their money is a big red flag. Thus, if the promoters add their money to raise capital for the company, it would show an outside investor that the company is still backed and there's a vision for its future after all. A Fortune India report citing sources said that Vi promoters might add their money into the company in the form of equity. This should ideally happen given Vodafone Idea has a strong chance of not only surviving but also thriving with the relief package in place. If the telco's short and medium-term cash flow issues are sorted, it will be able to invest aggressively in its networks and services. With 5G around the corner, the telcos are expected to more than double their enterprise revenues. Also, a possible tariff hike will result in an increased average revenue per user (ARPU) for the telecom industry that will further benefit Vi. This is high time for the promoters to add some of their own money into the company and show their confidence in its future. Earlier, the promoters had cleared their intent of not infusing any further capital into the company given its state. But, after the relief package, things should change and the promoters might reconsider their earlier stance.
OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review: The Classy Mid-Ranger Posted: 20 Sep 2021 08:47 AM PDT Frankly, it's been over a month since I have been using the OnePlus Nord 2, and I have a lot to say about the device. I would start with how wrong I was about the 'Nord 2' move from the company. Initially, when the smartphone came out, I thought, why would OnePlus go this route and introduce another mid-range device just after the Nord CE 5G. Especially when the Nord 2 5G's most expensive variant is priced around the same range as that of the OnePlus 9R. But after using the device for quite some time, my views have completely changed. OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review: Design and BodyOnePlus Nord 2 5G is a beautiful smartphone. In terms of design, it is as good as a very premium device, and since I got the PU leather variant (Green Woods), it looks even better. It is classy and pleasing to the eye. The feel that the PU leather gives on the palms is just so smooth. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G comes with curved edges and round corners. It is comfy to hold in your hands, and you can even operate the device single-handedly. There is no 3.5mm audio jack, but you get a Type-C port at the bottom with support for fast charging. The power button is on the right, and just above the power button is the alert slider which is so clicky that even one move up or down feels so satisfying. The volume rockers are on the left side, while the SIM tray is on the bottom left. As I said during the first impressions of the smartphone, the OnePlus Nord 2 5G has a beautiful camera layout at the rear. The camera bump is very similar to that of the OnePlus 9 and looks much better than the OnePlus 9R's camera bump, honestly. The two big sensors are beautifully placed, and the subtle green metal encasing the sensors looks really aesthetic. Let's move on to the display and see how the device is there. OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review: Display OnePlus Nord 2 5G comes with a 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED display with support for 90Hz refresh rate. There's only a bottom bezel that's a little thick; apart from that, the edges are really thin, and you will get a punch-hole cutout at the top left housing the selfie sensor. I have to say, the 90Hz refresh rate on OxygenOS 11.3 feels like 120Hz because of the sheer smoothness. The display is as responsive it can be. Whether you are playing a game and tapping very fast or you are watching a video, it will deliver on every aspect. It supports Always-On-Display (AOD), which is very useful for someone like me since I don't have to switch on the smartphone for looking at the time again and again. I had changed the settings of the display and turned on the 'AI Resolution boost' and 'AI Color boost', which also had an impact on the kind of experience I got from the display of the device. Note that I used the device completely in dark mode throughout. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G has outright one of the best displays on a smartphone in the mid-range section. OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review: Performance and Battery The OnePlus Nord 2 5G comes powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI processor coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of internal storage. It can do almost everything you want to do on a smartphone. The processor and the system are so well integrated that loading applications is a quick experience and even switching between them is no hassle at all. Note that I had been using the 12GB RAM variant. Playing heavy games was a very smooth experience with the OnePlus Nord 2 5G. It didn't overheat and could deliver the graphics very comfortably. In the connectivity department, the smartphone can support way more 5G bands than the OnePlus 9R. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G can support N40, N41, and N78 5G NR NSA bands and N41, N40, N78, N1, N3, and N28A 5G NR SA bands. This makes the device a compelling smartphone over its competitors which support fewer 5G bands. The speakers of the OnePlus Nord 2 are fantastic. The audio that comes out is crisp and crystal clear, most of all, very loud. The fingerprint sensor is just like what is expected of OnePlus. You get an amazing fast unlocking experience with the fingerprint sensor of OnePlus. Talking about the battery, the OnePlus Nord 2 has a decent performance. It comes packed with a 4,500mAh battery with support for 65W fast charging. The fast-charging experience is really good and consistent. With more heavy applications, you might notice the battery go down faster since its display also runs at a high refresh rate. Since it doesn't overheat, you won't see any abnormal battery drain issues. OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review: CameraAnother area where the OnePlus Nord 2 5G won my heart was in the camera department. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G comes with a triple-camera setup at the rear where the primary sensor is a 50MP Sony IMX766 lens paired with an 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, a mono lens with a dual-LED flash. You can zoom up to 10x and record videos at 4K 30fps with the OnePlus Nord 2 5G. Additional features such as the AI Photo Enhancement and AI Video Enhancement optimise the image really well for it to look good. The camera app is very similar to what you will see on the OnePlus 9 series. It has changed a bit from what OnePlus used to offer and seem like the camera app on the Realme phones. The additional features are present at the top of the screen while the different modes are at the bottom. OnePlus has changed the 'Pro' mode to 'Expert' mode on this device. The night mode captures good details. The warmth and the overall colour of the images on the OnePlus Nord 2 5G comes out better than previous-generation devices. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G has a solid camera. The focus is absolutely on point, colours are too good, and even clicking on zoom mode doesn't pixelate the image. Wide-angle shots on the OnePlus Nord 2 5G are decent if not the best.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() OnePlus Nord 2 5G Review: Price and ConclusionThe OnePlus Nord 2 5G is available in India in three different variants – 6GB+128GB for Rs 27,999, 8GB+128GB for Rs 29,999, and 12GB+256GB for Rs 34,999. It is available in three different colours – Gray Sierra, Blue Haze, and Green Woods. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G feels like a premium smartphone, to be honest. If instead of the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI SoC it would have been Snapdragon 888 SoC, it would have surely made a place for itself in the premium segment. The OnePlus Nord 2 5G is a very impressive device. It is a 'classy mid-ranger' in the true sense. From design to performance, everything about this smartphone is powerful and beautiful. If you are thinking about purchasing a device in the Rs 35,000 range, this can surely be a top choice for you.![]()
Oppo A54, Oppo F19 Now Rs 1,000 Expensive Posted: 20 Sep 2021 08:18 AM PDT Smartphone brands in India are increasing the cost of their devices due to the ongoing supply chain issue. Likewise, Oppo has increased the price of two of its devices – the Oppo A54 and Oppo F19 by Rs 1,000. Oppo follows the footprint of Realme and Xiaomi that have hiked the pricing of their smartphones in the country. Notably, both these smartphones from the Chinese brand entered the Indian market in April following their global launch. Oppo A54, Oppo F19 Revised PricingThe Oppo A54 price in India has been launched in three storage variants in India – 4GB RAM + 64GB ROM, 4GB RAM + 128GB ROM and 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM. All these variants received a price hike in India in July. Now, only the entry-level variant with 4GB RAM + 64GB has got a price hike costing Rs 14,990, which is up from its previous cost of Rs 13,990. Notably, the device was launched for Rs 13,490 and got a price hike of Rs 500 in July. The other two variants have not received a price hike now. On the other hand, the Oppo F19 was launched in a single storage option with 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM. The recent price hike has increased its cost from Rs 18,990 to Rs 19,990. Both the price hikes are reflected across the online retailers Flipkart, Amazon and the official Oppo online store.Other Smartphones That Got Price HikePreviously, we saw Realme smartphones such as Realme 8, Realme 8 GB, Realme C11 (2021), Realme C25 and Realme C21 receive a price hike of Rs 1,500. Soon after Realme, Xiaomi hiked the cost of the Redmi 9, Redmi 9 Prime, Redmi 9 Power, Redmi 9i, Redmi Note 10S, and Redmi Note 10T 5G by up to Rs 500. Notably, these price hikes are here to prevail for a few more months or a year as there is a supply chain issue resulting in a shortage of component prices. This issue was caused by the COVID-19 pandemic that made the whole world come to a standstill. It has affected the component makers across the world including the industry major TMSC.
| OnePlus, Oppo Eye Integrate OS Launch In 2022 Posted: 20 Sep 2021 07:11 AM PDT The Chinese smartphone makers OnePlus and Oppo are working hand-in-hand to launch an integrated operating system that will be created by merging their respective custom ROMs – ColorOS and OxygenOS early next year. The most premium ones will be its flagship smartphones priced around $500 and above. | iPhone 14 Series One Model Won’t Have this iPhone 13 Pro Feature Posted: 20 Sep 2021 05:33 AM PDT Apple just took the wraps off its latest generation iPhones in the iPhone 13 series. So soon, reports regarding the next-generation models are coming up. Reportedly, Apple is believed to be in plans to use an LTPS OLED display for at least one of the models in the iPhone 14 series slated for 2022. This model is expected to arrive with an LTPS OLED display with a standard refresh rate of 60Hz instead of a faster 120Hz display. Apple iPhone 14 Display SpecAs per a report by TheElec, LG Display is in plans to begin the supply of the LTPO OLED displays for iPhone 14 next year. The brand might have another supplier in addition to Samsung to produce the ProMotion display panels for its iPhone 14 series. Notably, Samsung is the only supplier of iPhone display panels for now. For the uninitiated, the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max make use of the ProMotion display panels with a variable refresh rate that will range between 10 Hz and 120 Hz. Notably, this ProMotion panel will provide a smoother viewing experience for users when watching videos, playing gaming or simply scrolling pages of text. Notably, the LTPS OLED display on the iPhone 13 misses out support for ProMotion technology. The Pro models released recently sport low-power LTPS OLED panels. Besides Samsung and LG, BOE is also eyeing to supply these panels for Apple iPhones that could be launched in 2023.Apple iPhone 14 RumorsFrom the existing reports, the iPhone 14 series is also said to comprise four models as in the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups. However, it is speculated to skip the mini variant and come up with a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max. The other models in the lineup are likely to be a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, 6.1-inch Pro variant and a 6.7-inch Pro Max variant. Having said that, we can expect the Apple iPhone 14 series to be launched with a high refresh rate only on the higher models. These devices could not sport a better and improved display than their predecessors. |

Starlink Will Go Out of Beta Phase In October: Musk Posted: 19 Sep 2021 08:39 PM PDT Starlink, one of the most popular satellite broadband companies in the world, will go out of the beta phase by next month. The company had launched its beta program back in October 2020, and after one complete year, Starlink is ready to move on to providing stable services to customers around the world. Not that it has already received regulatory approvals to do so in every country, but it will come with time. It is worth noting that Starlink will be going out of the beta phase two months later than Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX, had said. Musk had initially said that the company would go out of the beta phase by August 2021. But that didn't happen. Even so, Starlink has made impressive strides and has made a brand for itself around the globe. Starlink Has Already Shipped 100,000 TerminalsStarlink has already shipped over 100,000 terminals in over 14 countries. The terminals include a Wi-Fi router and a satellite dish. For the same, Starlink was charging $99 from the customers. The company had also introduced a similar offer for Indians last year. Starlink said that it aims to provide satellite broadband services in many countries, including India, from 2022. While this will happen or not, only time will tell. But for now, Starlink has a major challenge to overcome, and it is to get regulatory approvals from the governments of different countries for providing services. Starlink's services can make a major impact in rural India. Users in rural India can get seamless connectivity, and that with internet speeds of 100 Mbps download and 200 Mbps upload speed. While Starlink is delivering on the possible use-cases for direct consumers, it can also work in the B2B segment and compete with OneWeb, which is looking to work with telecom operators globally for improving their network coverage and range. It will be interesting to look at the satellite broadband era with a mix of 5G.

Frankly, it's been over a month since I have been using the OnePlus Nord 2, and I have a lot to say about the device.
As I said during the
OnePlus Nord 2 5G comes with a 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED display with support for 90Hz refresh rate. It supports Always-On-Display (AOD), which is very useful for someone like me since I don't have to switch on the
The OnePlus Nord 2 5G comes powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 1200-AI processor coupled with up to 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of internal storage. This makes the device a compelling smartphone over its competitors which support fewer
