Telcos Will Get Clarity Regarding Trusted List In October

Posted: 21 Sep 2021 12:14 PM PDT

Teleco Trusted List Telecom operators including Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) will get clarity regarding the trusted list in October 2021. For the unaware, the government had earlier announced that it would be coming out with a trusted list for the telecom operators to follow. This supposed trusted list is aimed to let operators understand which company they can source their network equipment from. None of the operators are allowed to purchase equipment from the companies that are not included in the list. But until now, the government hasn't come out with a list of names. However, that's going to change since, according to a HindustanTimes report, the telcos might get the list in the first week of October.

NCSC Said Operators Will Get to See First List on the First Week of October

Rajesh Pant, the National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC), was earlier designated as the authority to approve companies as trusted or not. According to the publication, Pant said that starting the first week of October, the telecom operators will get a list of trusted companies. Pant explained the verification process thoroughly and said that even the biggest network equipment vendors would have to be verified. According to Pant, India is the first nation in the world to implement such a system where the telcos can only source their network equipment from the trusted sources. This system came into place because of the rising security threats from India's neighbouring nation China. The Chinese vendors, including Huawei and ZTE, aren't expected to be included in the list. Even vendors such as Nokia and Ericsson will have to prove that they are trustworthy sources for the nation. After the companies are approved, the telcos can purchase their equipment from them. The government doesn't expect any bad impact in ease of doing business for the telcos. If there's an emergency, the government will even give a one-time exemption.

Starlink Made Lots of People Happy With Satellite Broadband

Posted: 21 Sep 2021 09:27 AM PDT

Starlink in India Starlink, a SpaceX owned satellite broadband communications services provider has made a lot of people happy. It has bridged the connectivity gap that a lot of remote and rural areas of the world faced. Just going on the website of the company, you will find testimonies of people who have used its services and are so grateful for it. There are people such as Jody M (living in Merrill, Wisconsin, US) who had no other option than consuming internet from 50-year-old copper lines. But the presence of Starlink has changed their lives since they can also leverage connectivity in the same way, quality and speed as does a regular person. Another person, Chris T, living in Bridgewater, England, Great Britain, said that he is very happy that he could upgrade to a powerful internet connection with Starlink as opposed to getting 900 Kbps speed earlier. These are just two testimonies, but there are several other people who have appreciated what Starlink is doing. Starlink is currently working on the regulatory approvals required for providing satellite broadband services in India.

Starlink to Improve Drastically

Starlink will improve drastically as it goes out of the beta phase in October 2021. The company had last year announced the initiation of beta services in October. After one year, Starlink is ready to go aggressive with its services and is confident that it can provide stable services to consumers around the world. Starlink will ensure that regardless of the location that a person is living in, he or she can get internet connectivity the same way any person does in an urban city with a fiber broadband connection. Satellite broadband connectivity will also ensure that businesses operating offices in remote/rural areas of different countries can get better connectivity. Getting great and consistent speeds from satellite broadband will help people in more than just one way. However, it will still take some time for Starlink to start providing services in different parts of the world. The issue isn't providing coverage, it is getting regulatory approvals from different governments.

WhatsApp Has Removed Messenger Rooms Feature

Posted: 21 Sep 2021 03:45 AM PDT

WhatsApp Facebook-owned instant messaging platform WhatsApp has been rolling out many new features for its users of late. The new features include the group icon editor, the ability to migrate chats from Android devices to iPhones and vice versa and more. Now, it looks like WhatsApp will remove a feature that was rolled out last year. Well, the talk is about the WhatsApp Messenger Rooms feature. This feature was initially launched in May 2020 and it lets users quickly create a group with up to 50 members on Facebook Messenger.

WhatsApp Messenger Rooms To Be Removed

A report by WABetaInfo, the WhatsApp tracker site notes that the WhatsApp Messenger Rooms shortcut has been removed from the chat share sheet for both the iOS and Android versions of the app. This shortcut has been removed for another shortcut, claims the report. Also, it adds that the company could be monitoring the usage of this feature and might have felt that it is not being used by many. The report has revealed that the WhatsApp beta version for iOS 2.21.190.11 and the Android beta version 2.21.19.15 have been spotted without the WhatsApp Messenger Rooms shortcut in the chat share screen. This hints that the messaging platform could have disabled the feature with these versions. Eventually, users can see the shortcuts to share Document, Camera, Audio, Gallery, Location and Contact in the in-chat menu. These will help them to tap on the particular shortcut and share the desired information with their contacts on WhatsApp.

Upcoming WhatsApp Features

Besides the removal of the WhatsApp Messenger Rooms, the instant messaging platform is working on the ability to transcribe voice messages. Currently, the feature is said to be under testing for iOS beta users. We can expect this ability to be rolled out to Android users of WhatsApp in the near future. To transcribe voice messages, WhatsApp will need permission to share the speech data with Apple. It will ask users to provide the necessary permission for the transcription. Also, it will store the transcribed messages locally, so that Facebook will not be involved in the process, thereby assuring the privacy of users.

Apple Set to Launch New AirPods, MacBooks This Year

Posted: 20 Sep 2021 09:12 PM PDT

Apple Apple is all set to launch multiple new products this year. The Cupertino tech giant recently came out with the new iPhone 13 series, Apple Watch Series 7, iPad mini 2021, and more in the September 14 event. Now, the company is expected to launch new products, including AirPods 3 and MacBook Pros' powered by the M1X processors, very soon. The company is on track to launch all of these products in the coming weeks. But as per reports online, there won't be a redesigned MacBook Air in the company's launch plans.

AirPods 3 and MacBook Pro With M1X to Launch In the Coming Weeks

As per previous reports, it is clear that the AirPods 3 are already in the mass manufacturing stage and will launch in the coming weeks. Apple might not hold separate events for the two products. If the AirPods 3 are ready to go along with the new MacBook Pros', Apple might announce a new event in October itself. Last year, Apple had announced the new MacBook lineup powered by the M1 chipset in November because it had launched the iPhone 12 series in October. This year the company has launched the new iPhone 13 series in September, so it is very possible that a new MacBook lineup along with the AirPods 3 might come in October only. But Apple isn't expected to launch the Apple AirPods Pro 2 and a new generation of iPad Pro this year too. The company might unveil them in an event planned for early 2022. The new MacBook Pros' with the M1X processor are expected to come in 14-inch and 16-inch screen sizes. The AirPods 3 are expected to come with support for Lossless Audio.

JioPhone Next Will Require Reliance to Spend More on Subsidy

Posted: 20 Sep 2021 08:50 PM PDT

JioPhone Next Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the parent company of Reliance Jio, India's number one telecom operator, will have to spend more on the subsidies it plans to provide to the customers for making JioPhone Next affordable. For the unaware, JioPhone Next is an ultra-affordable 4G smartphone that both Jio and Google have developed together for the Indian market. The expected launch of the smartphone was delayed from September 10 to the coming festive season. There is no fixed date provided for the launch. Coming back to the primary point, RIL will have to spend thousands of crores in addition to what it had planned for spending on subsidies to keep the device affordable for the customers.

Rising Component Prices Major Issue for JioPhone Next

JioPhone Next is not going to be affordable if Reliance doesn't increase subsidies. An analyst, at the condition of anonymity, told ET Telecom that if Jio plans to price the JioPhone Next around Rs 4,000 and also sell 75 million units, it will have to increase the subsidy per handset to Rs 2,500, which will mean Rs 18,750 crores overall. The reason why Reliance Jio will have to spend more on subsidies is the rising cost of smartphone components. From chipsets to displays, everything has become more expensive because of the supply constraints that the pandemic has brought. The high cost of components is expected to be there for another year as the demand isn't going to go down, and it will take some time for new manufacturing facilities of components to start working. According to the publication, another analyst said that Jio could also go with the 'Buy now, pay later' scheme. The company can price the upfront cost for the consumers very low, and the rest of the amount can be paid at a later date in pieces or together. JioPhone Next is aimed at reducing the legacy network consumers in India. It will be really interesting to see if it can do that.

Connect Broadband Offers the Most Fun 40 Mbps Plans

Posted: 20 Sep 2021 06:33 PM PDT

Connect Broadband Connect Broadband is not a very big internet service provider (ISP), but it is well known to the people where it provides services. Basic or entry-level plans are not usually very good. Most of the ISPs don't offer any 'fun' plans, which are very affordable. Almost every entry-level broadband plan comes with basic internet speed and nothing more. But Connect Broadband has changed that with its varied offerings. The ISP offers not one but multiple types of 40 Mbps plans. One is the basic where you don't get much except for the internet speed, and the second is where you also get additional benefits which make your experience of using the plan 'fun'. Let's take a look at how much Connect Broadband's 40 Mbps plan costs and what does it offer.

Connect Broadband 40 Mbps Plans That Are Fun

As mentioned above, Connect offers multiple types of 40 Mbps plans. If 40 Mbps speed is sufficient for you and you are also looking at getting over-the-top (OTT) benefits with them, here is everything you can get from Connect. The first kind of 40 Mbps plan that you can get from Connect is the normal one with unlimited data. Note that all of the company's unlimited plans offer 3.3TB or 3,300GB of fair-usage-policy (FUP) data. The cheapest and not so much fun 40 Mbps plan from the company costs Rs 499 per month. It also offers a free landline connection with unlimited voice calling. There is nothing more to this plan. But then, you also get two other types of 40 Mbps broadband plans from the company. The first plan for Rs 666, and the second comes for Rs 888. Both of these plans are very fun for the users because they bundle the over-the-top (OTT) benefits of multiple platforms. Both the plans offer unlimited data (3.3TB) and 40 Mbps speed along with a free Antivirus key and landline connection with unlimited voice calling. The Rs 666 plan comes with 4 OTT benefits – ZEE5 Premium, SonyLIV, Voot Select, and ShemarooMe. The Rs 888 plan, on the other hand, comes with eight different OTT benefits – ShemarooMe, Voot Select, SonyLIV, ZEE5 Premium, Hungama Music, EpicON, Hungama Play, and Eros Now. Now, these are some of the most expensive 40 Mbps plans in India currently, but no one can deny that they have the 'fun' element many are looking for. If 40 Mbps speed is enough for you and you also have a flexible budget, this can be a better deal for you even than the 100 Mbps plans that come with no OTT benefit and almost cost the same.
