Bharti Airtel Getting Extra Cash In Hand Can Change Company’s Fortunes: Opinion Posted: 03 Sep 2021 12:12 PM PDT Bharti Airtel is looking at a flurry of cash coming it’s way. The telco is raising funds via a rights issue, and it has received the board's approval for the same. This cash can help the telco in getting ahead of its competition. Airtel wouldn't want to give up an opportunity of getting more cash. That is why if it gets a big investment from a major tech giant, its fortunes might change. Note that all of this is an opinion and based on speculation. Bharti Airtel 'Speculated Deal' With GoogleIt is being speculated that Bharti Airtel will soon be making a deal with Google. What this deal will hold, or its information hasn't been leaked as of yet by the speculators. But a few reports online suggest that the two companies have been in talks for a long time now. While Bharti Airtel has already clarified that the Google deal is only "media speculation" at the moment, there is a chance that this deal may happen. If there weren't any talks going on between the companies, Bharti Airtel would have just said that "look, there's no deal, and all reports are false". But why would a company deny to comment by saying it’s "media speculation". This suggests that while the deal between Airtel and Google might not have concluded, the companies might be in talks with each other. This is as wild a guess as I have ever made, so I can be so wrong here, but I will take my chances.Bharti Airtel and Google Deal, What Can The Companies Actually Work On?For the unaware, Google has already invested a ton of money into Reliance Jio and is also working with the telco to come out with an affordable 4G handset for users in India. I don't think the deal with Airtel might be something along the same lines. But again, anything that I think right now is pure speculation. So what should be the deal about? I really don't know, and there's hardly any evidence or leaks in the market that can point us towards a singular direction. But one thing's for sure; Airtel would benefit a lot if this deal happens. Any successful deal might mean Airtel either getting its hands into Google's resources or Airtel getting a ton of money from Google. Either way, Airtel will benefit a lot. With the extra cash that it might get from Google, the company can fast-track its process of investing in the mobile networks, and that would help it in getting an edge over Jio when it comes to 5G. 5G would need much more capacity in the networks and will require a lot of investments. Thus this deal, if it happens, can be fruitful for Airtel. Note: All the information mentioned here except for Airtel's rights issue fundraise plan and Jio getting an investment from Google are speculations.
Reliance Jio Asks for LF to be Reduced from 3% to 1% Posted: 03 Sep 2021 08:29 AM PDT Reliance Jio, India's number one telecom operator in terms of subscriber market share, has called for the need of reducing the license fee charged from 3% to 1%. Note that all the operators have to pay the government a license fee which is 3% of the adjusted gross revenue (AGR). Matthew Oommen, President, Reliance Jio Infocomm, today said that the license fee for the telcos needs to go down to 1% from the existing 3%. Note that the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) had also written to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) that the spectrum renewal period should be doubled and the license fee (LF) should be brought down to 1%. Reliance Jio Addresses Changes In Market Since It CameSpeaking at the India Mobile Conclave organised by ET Telecom, Oommen said that almost 60% of the country is online, which is about 800 million people. Further, he said that because of the kind of technology 5G is, the 5G users will triple than 4G in India. He noted that how India still has over 300 million 2G customers. Reliance Jio has an aim of making India 2G Mukt, and it can only do so if there is enough incentive for the 2G customers to shift to 4G smartphones. More than just incentives, they need a lower entry-level 4G smartphone with good features. That is why Reliance Jio is going to launch a new 4G smartphone in India, namely 'JioPhone Next'. Oommen noted the fact that the license fees for the telcos is too high at the moment, and it is stressing the sector financially. Hopefully, the government can come out with a relief package soon where it will reduce the license fee charged to 1%. Oommen said that an agile policy and a consistent regulatory framework is needed to fuel the growth of this sector even further. The government's relief package for the telecom sector might address all this.
WhatsApp Rolls Out New Feature Only for Samsung Phones for the Time Being Posted: 03 Sep 2021 08:12 AM PDT WhatsApp users for so long have been waiting for the texting giant to come out with a solution for transferring iOS data to Android and vice versa. Until now, users had to resort to leveraging third-party applications for transferring their data across the mentioned mobile platforms which was a risk since their data is exposed. But now, WhatsApp has provided the iOS to Android or Android to iOS data chat data transfer option to select Android devices from Samsung. Here's everything you should know about the feature. WhatsApp Android to iOS Chat Data Transfer DetailsWhatsApp is now allowing users on any Samsung smartphone that is running version 3.7.22.1 or higher of the Samsung SmartSwitch app along with Android 10 to use the WhatsApp Chat Transfer feature. WhatsApp will soon be rolling out this feature for other Android smartphones as well. At the same time, iPhone users need to ensure that their smartphone is running the WhatsApp version 2.21.160.17 or higher to use this feature. But note that this is not a cloud data transfer since Android devices back up the data in Google Drive while the iOS devices back it up in iCloud. So Samsung users would require a Type-C lightning port if they want to make the data transfer possible. Here are the steps that users can follow to use this feature from the company. Step 1 – Switch on the Samsung device and connect through the cable to the iPhone when prompted. Step 2 – Keep following the Samsung Smart Switch. Step 3 – Users should scan the QR code when prompted with the iPhone. Step 4 – Tap on the 'Start' button on the iPhone. Step 5 – Log in to WhatsApp on the new device using the old phone number. Step 6 – Tap on the 'Import' option when you see it. Step 7 – The chats will be imported once the process is complete.
Samsung Has Just Increased Price of Galaxy A52 In India Posted: 03 Sep 2021 06:59 AM PDT Samsung has just increased the price of its 'A' series smartphone. The device in concern here is the Galaxy A52. It is a 4G smartphone that has a decent display and is priced in the mid-range segment. Samsung has increased the price of the Galaxy A52 by Rs 1,000. The changes have been made on the website of the company and are also applicable in the offline retail stores in India and Amazon. Let's take a look at the new price and the specifications of this smartphone. Samsung Galaxy A52 New PriceThe Samsung Galaxy A52 is now Rs 1,000 more expensive in India. The price change has been implemented in both the available smartphones in the market. The Galaxy A52's base variant with 6GB+128GB was available for Rs 26,499, but after the price hike, its new price is Rs 27,499. Then its second variant with 8GB+128GB was available for Rs 27,999 but now it will be available for Rs 28,999. The development was first reported by MySmartPrice. The price hike is not surprising since almost every consumer electronics company is selling its products for an increased price to recover the increased cost in manufacturing that has come because of the supply chain issues.Samsung Galaxy A52 SpecificationsThe Samsung Galaxy A52 comes with a 6.52-inch FHD+ display with support for 90Hz refresh rate. It runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC coupled with up to 8GB of RAM. The smartphone runs on One UI 3.1 based on Android 11 out of the box. It has a quad-camera setup at the rear with a 64MP primary sensor and a 32MP selfie sensor at the front. The device packs a 4,500mAh battery with support for up to 25W fast-charging. Other smartphone brands such as Xiaomi and Realme have also increased the price of their smartphones and that is why this change shouldn't be surprising for anyone.
Indian Telecom Operators Upgrading Networks, Replacing Huawei Equipment Posted: 03 Sep 2021 05:07 AM PDT Telecom operators are "actively replacing Huawei networks in India," says Gary Smith, chief executive officer at Ciena, a networking systems, services and software company. Smith said that Ciena has "certainly been the beneficiary" of the telecom operators replacing Huawei equipment from their networks. Further, the chief executive officer at Ciena said that the company has "seen this dynamic for a while" and that "it is clearly a multi-year tailwind" for Ciena. Smith said that Ciena continued to "navigate through COVID challenges" in India, with the company recording 48% year-on-year (YoY) and 26% year-to-date revenue growth in India. Ciena to "Take A Little While" to Deploy OrdersCiena on Thursday announced its third-quarter financial results with the company reporting US$988.1 million (approximately Rs 7221 crores) in revenue for the period ended July 31, 2021. In comparison, Ciena in the third quarter of the previous financial year recorded US$976.7 million (approximately Rs 7137 crores) in revenues. "India, I would say in the last sort of six months is accelerated that move and they are actively replacing Huawei networks in India and we’ve certainly been the beneficiary of that," Smith said in the third-quarter earnings call on Thursday. "We have good order flow and good new wins in India, some of which are on the back of that." The chief executive officer at Ciena also said "it will take a little while" for the company to "deploy" its orders. "These things take time, and those decisions take time, and then to execute on that," Smith said. "It’s a big undertaking by the carriers, but it’s underway." Smith earlier in the second-quarter earnings call in June also had said that Ciena witnessed a "lot of activity around the major carriers" in India "wishing" to reduce their dependence on Huawei. However, the chief executive officer at Ciena said that the company has "not yet deployed" its orders due to the COVID related challenges in India.Ciena Took Advantage of Huawei OpportunitiesMeanwhile, James Moylan, chief financial officer at Ciena on Thursday said "there are opportunities" for the company in India. "We said earlier that India is a place which has moved very aggressively to exclude Huawei from their builds, there are opportunities for us," Moylan said in the third-quarter earnings call on Thursday. "We have taken advantage of those opportunities." It has to be noted that the telecom department introduced multiple policy changes post the clashes between Chinese and Indian troops in June 2020, with the changes limiting the involvement of Chinese vendors. Moylan said that the company expected that India would "start to show” in its “revenue stack a little higher" as compared to its previous quarters. "That has been the case, it’s not quite 5% of our revenue, but it’s up very nicely year-to-date," Moylan said. "It’s (India) going to be a great place for us to be for a long time." In late June, Ciena announced that Bharti Airtel deployed its photonic infrastructure designs to "almost triple optic fiber network capacity for delivering a world-class 5G experience" to its users. It was said that the solutions from Ciena will enable Airtel to "fast-track 5G and support high-growth cloud applications while lowering the cost per bit." "I think importantly, we are seeing investment by key customers for network upgrades in India, as well as replacement of Huawei equipment," Smith said.
iPhone 13, iPhone 14 Could Be Revolutionary Smartphones Posted: 03 Sep 2021 04:07 AM PDT The iPhone 13 series is expected to launch this month, and the iPhone 14 series is expected at the same time in 2022. The thing is, Apple might be building revolutionary smartphones for its ecosystem. When I say revolutionary smartphones, I mean revolutionary for Apple, and the context is in terms of an ecosystem. Let me make it simple for you. iPhones aren't just standalone smartphones; they are the key to the Apple ecosystem. Yes, the Macs, the iPads, and the AirPods don't require an iPhone; but they don't really work the best with Android devices. iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 Advancements to Boost Apple EcosystemWhen you purchase an iPhone, it's more than just buying a smartphone. You are essentially making your entry into the world of Apple products. With an iPhone, the possibility of you purchasing an Apple Watch, AirPods, Apple AirTags, Macs just increase exponentially. This is because of the ecosystem that the company has built. Apple iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 series smartphones are expected to come with major hardware upgrades that we didn't really see in the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 12 series. The iPhone 14 might come running on the 3nm based Bionic processor if things go right and there are no delays at production at the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC). Further, the iPhone 14 might come with an in-display fingerprint sensor and no notch essentially. The iPhone 13 series is expected to see major hardware upgrades as well. Users might come with better Face ID support, a smaller notch, bigger batteries, and faster-charging support. The iPhone 13 series will lay a foundation for the iPhone 14 series to follow. With these solid iPhones in the market, consumers will be attracted to get their hands on them. Every new iPhone series has helped Apple make some records, and the upcoming iPhones can't be ignored to do the same. It will be really interesting to see what major upgrades the iPhone 13 series actually brings that's expected to launch in a few days.
Bharti Airtel CTO Says Govt Should Not Tax Spectrum Posted: 03 Sep 2021 03:11 AM PDT Randeep Sekhon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Bharti Airtel, said that government should not look at the telecom industry as a primary revenue source. Instead, Sekhon said that government should look at the sector as a place from where a lot of tax revenues can be generated. Thus, according to the Airtel CTO, the government should avoid taxing the spectrum that telcos purchase and use. Sekhon iterated that spectrum is just one part of the investment that goes into mobile networks, then there's a whole lot of costs involved for building the right infrastructure and then getting the permissions like RoWs from the relevant authorities. Doing all of this is just very expensive in some parts of the country. Reliance Jio Statements Support What Airtel SaidShyam Mardikar, President and Group CTO Mobility, Reliance Jio, said, 5G can't be seen as just spectrum sensitive. He meant that the telcos would also have to do the work from ground zero and purchased and install equipment, build technologies with partners, pay for each and every small element to build a strong 5G infrastructure and thus, spectrum is not the only cost the operators have to worry about. Mardikar said that the 5G rollout must be looked at with the right perspective. It is not just a game of airwaves, but there are a lot more elements involved, such as cost elements, time elements, and policy elements. If all of this is not confirmed, it will become really hard to put the right price on the spectrum.Vodafone Idea CTO Expresses Fear In Current Tower InfrastructureSpeaking in the ET Telecom organised India Mobile Conclave, at a panel discussion on the topic 'Making 5G Relevant for Tomorrow', Jagbir Singh, CTO, Vodafone Idea, said the current tower infrastructure isn't sufficient for rolling out 5G services. The telcos are currently testing their 5G networks in the 3.5 GHz band, and they will require a lot more towers if they want to roll out 5G in the same spectrum bands. Singh, at the same time, said that the cost for rolling out 5G should be affordable. Vodafone Idea CTO also lay importance on the need for fibre and the permissions in rolling out 5g.

The Redmi 10 Prime is targeted at the budget segment customers. However, what's impressive about the smartphone is its display and battery specifications. At the price range the smartphone will be selling for; it becomes a very strong option for consumers since the price of the Redmi Note 10 series has been bumped up. | Vodafone Idea Stock Surges 8% on Friday Morning Posted: 02 Sep 2021 11:47 PM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi) has seen some positives in the market. The bullish sentiment is working well for the financially struggling telco. Vi's share or stock has surged on Friday morning. The company's stock had seen strong growth on Thursday, and the momentum has continued on Friday morning as well. The current stock price of Vodafone Idea at the time of this writing is Rs 7.70, which is 7.69% above, and is oscillating between Rs 7.75 – Rs 7.70, which means the stock is seeing a growth of well over 8%. But why is Vodafone Idea's stock rising again when its financials haven't improved. Here's why. Vodafone Idea Pushing for Relief for Telecom SectorThe reason why Vodafone Idea's stock is trending and rising right now is the meeting that took place between the telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnaw and Kumar Mangalam Birla. While the contents of the meeting haven't been revealed to the public, many assume that Birla must have met the minister to talk about the relief measures that will be provided to the telecom sector. Vodafone Idea fans and investors are only waiting for the company to get some relief from the government. The reports of the meeting came on Thursday, and on the very same day, Vi's stock had surged 18% and closed at Rs 7.15. On Friday, Vodafone Idea's shares opened even higher at Rs 7.30 and touched a high of Rs 8.10 in the morning session. The talks between the two parties have got the market excited about Vi. But things should cool down soon as it isn't clear when will the government bring relief measures for the telcos. On Friday, the stock of Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is also performing in the green, and it is because of the bullish sentiment that the market has. Bharti Airtel's stock has also seen new highs and is trading at much higher than the last week because of the fundraising announcements. |
WhatsApp Will Remain Number One Despite Controversies Posted: 02 Sep 2021 10:14 PM PDT WhatsApp, arguably the world's largest instant messaging platform, will not see any threat from its rivals Telegram or Signal. A few months back, when controversies related to the privacy policy of the application surfaced in the market, Elon Musk, a big social influencer these days, tweeted and asked people to move to Signal. Signal is one of the most privacy-enhanced applications for texting in the world. At the same time, Telegram should be just behind Signal in privacy and WhatsApp will take the last place because of its recent policies and drive to store user information and sharing it with third-party companies for making additional revenues. But there's no way either of these privacy-enhanced applications is going to beat WhatsApp. Here's why. Telegram Registered 1 Billionth Download, But Still Not a Threat to WhatsAppTelegram recently became one of the select applications in the world to get its billionth download. The application deserves it because of its modern texting features. But at the same time, WhatsApp has more than 6 billion downloads. Being a new app, Signal is nowhere close to these two applications. The reason why WhatsApp won't be overtaken by either of these applications is the brand it has created for itself. It was one of the earliest chatting applications in the world, which got very famous very fast, and since Facebook has acquired it, the app has been rolling out new features every few weeks. Further, the fact that many people didn't shift to other applications despite WhatsApp claiming that it will take their data and share it with others is just a testament to the fact that people are 'used' to the app's interface and features, and they wouldn't want to shift to any other application any time soon. But there's also one more thing to consider here. While people can use Telegram and Signal, they can also use WhatsApp. Shifting to either of these applications doesn't require the users to leave the other one. Thus, WhatsApp for many users can be for different kinds of conversations and Telegram/Signal can be installed for a different purpose. At the end of the day, it would require a miracle for either Signal or Telegram to beat WhatsApp at the current rate at which it is growing.
Vodafone Idea Brings New Plans Similar to Jio, Airtel Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:32 PM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi) has brought new prepaid plans for its users. These plans are in line with what Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio have launched recently. If you still haven't guessed it, these plans come with the new Disney+ Hotstar mobile-only benefit. Vi will be offering these plans to users across India, and all of them are already available for purchase on the website and the mobile app of the telco. Let's see what these plans bring for the users. Vodafone Idea New Disney+ Hotstar Prepaid PlansVodafone Idea (Vi) has introduced four new plans. Well, if looked at carefully, these are just old plans with bumped up prices and a benefit of Disney+ Hotstar Mobile. But these plans are very closely priced to what Jio and Airtel are offering. Further, these might be just better than the offerings of Airtel and Jio. Let's take a look at their benefits. The first new plan comes for Rs 501. This plan offers 28 days of validity and 3GB of daily data to the users, along with 16GB of bonus data from the company. The over-the-top (OTT) benefits included are Disney+ Hotstar Mobile and Vi Movies & TV. The second new plan comes for Rs 701. This plan offers 56 days of validity with 3GB of daily data and 32GB of bonus data with a Disney+ Hotstar Mobile and Vi Movies & TV subscription. Moving on, the Rs 901 plan also offers 3GB of daily data, but for 84 days and also offers 48GB of bonus data with a free subscription to Disney+ Hotstar Mobile and Vi Movies & TV. If you want a plan for the long term, you can go with the Rs 2,595 plan that offers 1.5GB daily data for 365 days with a free subscription to Disney+ Hotstar Mobile and Vi Movies & TV. Note that all of these plans come with free voice calling and 100 SMS/day. Further, all of them also avail users of the 'Weekend Data Rollover' and 'Binge All Night' offer. These benefits take these plans a level above what Jio and Airtel are offering to their users. There is also a data voucher of Rs 601 that offers a free subscription to the Disney+ Hotstar Mobile plan. It comes with a validity of 56 days and offers users 75GB of data. The Disney+ Hotstar Mobile plan offered with each of the above-mentioned plans has a standalone cost of Rs 499. All the plans offer a subscription for 1-year to the users, and they only allow streaming in one smartphone at a time.
Reliance Jio, Airtel, Vi Affordable 4G Data Only Plans Posted: 02 Sep 2021 06:40 PM PDT Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) are the top telecom service providers (TSPs) in India. Their 4G networks are present all across the nation, and each of them has millions of customers. Because of the fair-usage-policy (FUP) structure, the telcos offer users 4G data vouchers which can help them in recharging their numbers if they have already used their data for the day. Each of the operators offers a 4G data voucher to the users. Let's take a look at some of the affordable ones that are available in the market as of now. Bharti Airtel Affordable 4G Data VouchersBharti Airtel offers multiple 4G data vouchers to the users. Its most affordable voucher is priced at Rs 48. The Rs 11 plan offers users 1GB of data while the Rs 21 and Rs 51 plans offer 2GB and 6GB of data, respectively. The validity of all these vouchers is the same as that of the base unlimited plan the user has recharged with.Vodafone Idea Affordable 4G Data VouchersVodafone Idea offers multiple affordable 4G data vouchers as well. These vouchers come for Rs 16 and Rs 48. The Rs 16 voucher comes with 1GB of data but carries a validity of only 24 hours or 1 day. Then the Rs 48 voucher comes with 28 days of validity and offers 3GB of data to the users. The cheapest and most valuable vouchers amongst the ones mentioned above come from Reliance Jio. Note that there are more vouchers offered by each operator to the users. There are some more that are priced under Rs 100, but we have not included them since they won't be affordable for a lot of people in India. The most expensive one on our list comes from Bharti Airtel, which is priced at Rs 78. These companies also offer prepaid 4G vouchers, which come with over-the-top (OTT) benefits and more data, but all of them come for a very expensive price. All of these vouchers can be subscribed to from the websites and mobile apps of these companies.
