WhatsApp Web Will Offer Users Options to React to Messages With Emojis

Posted: 04 Sep 2021 09:55 AM PDT

WhatsApp To keep its users happy, WhatsApp keeps on introducing new features from time to time. Now, the Facebook-owned application is soon going to bring another new major feature for the users. It will be available for the Web version of the application. This feature will be available for users both owning an Android or an iOS smartphone. The feature is aimed at making conversing easier and more seamless for users. The feature will allow users to react to other people's messages using emojis. Yes, emojis can still be used, but they can't be directly reacted to. However, with the new feature coming in soon, users will be able to do that.

WhatsApp Web New Feature Will Allow Users to Directly Use Emojis for Reacting to Messages

According to a WABetaInfo report, WhatsApp Web will soon get the support of 'Message Reaction'. The feature will be rolled out for both the WhatsApp Web and WhatsApp Desktop. The 'Message Reaction' feature is similar to what users get in Facebook Messenger and Instagram. In terms of the number of emojis available for users, there will be more than 999 emojis that users will be able to choose from. One of the best things that this new feature will enable for the users is the ability to react to a single message with multiple emojis. This feature won't just be available for the group chats, but users will also be able to use it for individual chats. This new feature, whenever it comes, will bring a lot of functionality for the users and also make their chatting experience more convenient. It will certainly make WhatsApp users stick to the application longer and will add a 'fun' element to chatting. WhatsApp is also expected to bring a major redesign for its application which will include changing colours and the complete user interface. There's no confirmation on when this feature will be available for the users, but it should come soon!

Starlink Will Offer Data at Close to Light Speeds

Posted: 04 Sep 2021 06:17 AM PDT

Starlink Starlink is one of the most exciting companies in the satellite broadband industry at the moment. The company is already in the beta testing phase in multiple countries including European nations, Australia, New Zealand, and the US. Elon Musk, the CEO of SpaceX which owns Starlink keeps on sharing information about the company's plans through his Twitter account. In a recent query posted to him, Musk said that Starlink will be able to offer satellite internet at close to light speeds. To do that, the company will be getting rid of its ground stations.

Starlink to Get Rid of Ground Stations and Use Laser Equipped Satellites

Starlink has plans to get rid of ground stations which have become a hindrance in offering high-speed connections to its customers in the beta phase. The company will be using laser-equipped satellites which will be able to transmit data at light speeds to even remote regions where terrestrial networks are not present. The laser-equipped satellites will help Starlink in getting rid of the ground stations. The ground stations take a lot more time in establishing connections with the satellite which reduces the speed that is delivered with the connection. As per the tweet from Musk, the laser will be able to deliver speeds that will be 40% faster than the optical fibers. Thus, a laser Starlink connection might be able to transfer data packets at 180,832 miles per second. This is actually 97% of the speed of light. Elon Musk has already said that Starlink will cut the ground station from the complete Arctic and will also increase the bandwidth offered. The company further plans to reduce the ping offered to 50ms which will help the users in establishing real-time connections. Starlink is currently in the battle of getting regulatory approvals from governments around the world. While the company can release satellites into space and provide global coverage at its own speed, getting regulatory approvals might be a long walk.

Apple iPhone 12 Series Still Makes Sense In 2021

Posted: 04 Sep 2021 04:46 AM PDT

iPhone 12 Many users are waiting for the iPhone 13 series to launch ahead in this month. But there's one thing that you should note, all the major changes are expected to arrive with the iPhone 14 series. Upon the launch of the iPhone 13 series, users will see a discount coming on the iPhone 12 series. It might not be the biggest discount, but Apple will reduce the price a little. Yes, the iPhone 13 series is expected to come with bigger batteries and a higher refresh rate display, but the iPhone 14 is expected to have much more such as a 3nm based Bionic SoC and an in-display fingerprint sensor. But one of the major reasons to avoid the iPhone 13 series would be its increased price.

Purchase iPhone 12 Series Smartphones Because iPhone 13 Would Be Expensive

Just to make it simple for you, yes, every new iPhone series is expensive only. But the thing is, the iPhone 13 will be more expensive than it was supposed to be. The iPhone 12 launched a little late, but Apple didn't have to face high manufacturing costs. But with the iPhone 13 series, Apple might have to sell it for a cost way above what it had initially planned to. The iPhone 12 series has almost everything a user can benefit from. Sure there are more things in the iPhone 13 series, but whether it is worth it or not is the question. The iPhone 12 series at a discounted rate will become a very attractive option for the customers. Users will not have to spend more on getting a quality device. Since Apple offers way more iOS updates over the years, the iPhone 12 devices can also be used for a long time. I don't mean the iPhone 13 series won't be good, but it can be ignored for the time being and the iPhone 12 series can help a user do almost everything.

Affordable 5G Phones In India Currently Not a Good Buy

Posted: 04 Sep 2021 02:45 AM PDT

Affordable 5G One thing that's mostly the case with affordable smartphones is that they don't run well for more than 18 or 24 months. The Android and security updates offered to these phones are very few in comparison to flagships, and there's not a lot these devices can do except for basic tasks. In order to increase their sales, smartphone companies are coming out with affordable 5G smartphones. Now note that the cost of 5G chipsets is considerably higher than that of 4G chipsets. So two phones, one 5G and one 4G, priced the same would mean that the specifications offered by the 5G phone will be lesser. Let me explain in simple words.

Affordable 5G Phones In India Come With fewer Specifications

In order to save costs and bring the price of the phone down, the manufacturers are reducing the quality of display, among other things, so that the overall price of the smartphone can be brought down even with a 5G chipset. At the same time, since a 4G chipset is cheaper, the manufacturers can bundle in better display and better quality components on their smartphones and offer a really good device for very little. Purchasing an affordable 5G smartphone right now is not a good choice because of two primary reasons. A) India still doesn't have live 5G networks, and thus many OEMs don't know the kind of bands that will be supported by 5G of the telcos. Note that OEMs have said in the past that they are talking with the operators before manufacturing their products, but it’s entirely possible that today's 5G phones may not support all future 5G bands. B) The cost of the 5G phones is very high right now. With rising scale in production and reduction in supply chain snags, the cost of these phones will be reduced, and you might see better smartphones for the same price as 4G devices today. If you are considering purchasing a 5G phone today, it is better to go with a mid-range or a flagship device because at least you will get your money's worth out of it, and you will also be able to use it for a longer period. India won't see its first live 5G network until 2022's second quarter, at least. It will be interesting to see which operator wins the race in rolling out 5G first.

BSNL 4G Contract Might Only Go to TCS

Posted: 04 Sep 2021 12:56 AM PDT

BSNL 4G There is a high chance that the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) 4G contract might only be rewarded to the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS). TCS had recently acquired Tejas Networks, which is a global optical and broadband company that will be very helpful when it comes to conducting 4G trials. According to Pertsol, a domestic telecom firm, since C-DoT is a public sector unit (PSU), the contract of 4G rollout for BSNL might only go towards TCS as it will be the only viable option left in the mix.

Pertsol Says System Integrators Have Not Yet Concluded Commercial Proposal

According to a Financial Express report, Pertsol has said that the three companies it had partnered with, including HFCL, L&T, and Tech Mahindra, haven't concluded the commercial proposal with it. It is worth noting that just a couple of days back, it was reported that HFCL, L&T, and Tech Mahindra had communicated with BSNL about the trials being unfeasible with Pertsol because there were a lot of technical issues in the solution provided by the company. In response, Pertsol has said that it has already delivered many successful mission-critical solutions to BSNL and has also implemented its packet core for BSNL in Chennai recently. Pertsol said that the commercial proposal with the three partnered companies, including HFCL, L&T, and Tech Mahindra, haven't been concluded yet. The company has already invited its three partners or systems integrators (SIs) for demonstrating an end-to-end core solution according to BSNL expression of interest (EoI). The company said that since TCS is investing heavily in this project for setting up a different vertical for telecom solutions for 4G/5G, it might be the only company left for BSNL to go ahead with. Apart from TCS, every other vendor had chosen Pertsol as the partner, and if there's an issue with the tech of Pertsol, only TCS will be left in the mix.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 Geekbench Scores Revealed

Posted: 03 Sep 2021 10:28 PM PDT

Snapdragon 898 Qualcomm is expected to launch the Snapdragon 898 SoC for the upcoming flagship smartphones in 2022. The chipset manufacturer has been ahead of MediaTek in both branding and performing when it comes to flagship chipsets. Now the Geekbench scores of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC have been revealed. The chipset was installed in the smartphone model – Vivo V2102A. According to a Gizmochina report, the chipset is first expected to come with a Vivo smartphone in December 2021. Let's check out the scores of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 SoC Geekbench Scores

The Qualcomm 898 SoC's single-core performance was 720 and the multi-core score was 1919. The operating system the Vivo device was running was Android 12. As per the info available online, the processor has 8 cores and the base frequency is just 1.78 GHz which is expected to increase as the mass production of the chipset kicks in. The single-core score of 720 and multi-core score of 1919 looks very promising. The chipset will bring a 3400 architecture into play along with Adreno 730 GPU. The power consumption of this chipset with further improvements should go even higher. The chipset is going to be manufactured by both the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) and Samsung. It will be built on the 4nm process of Samsung and will deliver a 20% improvement in the performance over its predecessor, Snapdragon 888. There will also be a 'Plus' variant of the chipset which is expected to arrive in the market as early as the second quarter of 2022. Qualcomm is expected to hold a summit in December where we should get more information about the chipset and which smartphone it will launch with. It will be interesting to see how MediaTek will compete with the Snapdragon 898 SoC. The Snapdragon 898 SoC is expected to power most of the Android flagships in 2022 including the OnePlus 10 series, Xiaomi 12, Galaxy S22 series, and more.

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel to Lead 5G Revolution In India, Vi and BSNL Could Follow

Posted: 03 Sep 2021 06:37 PM PDT

Reliance Jio Bharti Airtel Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are the two top telecom operators in India in terms of subscribers' market share. While these two operators are gaining market share both in terms of revenues and subscribers, Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) are doing what they can to survive. 5G is not far away from here, and the telcos are already in the testing process of their 5G solutions. These trials will help them in understanding the use cases of the technology and also enable an efficient rollout without any errors. Looking at the market predictions by all the analysts and just how things have unfolded, it isn't hard to assume that Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel will be the key players in the telecom industry. Look, I am not ruling out Vodafone Idea and BSNL's future yet. Both the telcos can still run their operations on 4G, and it wouldn't be a big problem since 4G isn't going from India anytime soon. But when it comes to 5G, there's hardly any conviction that BSNL and Vi offer to the market. While Vi is already testing its 5G solutions, the telco doesn't have the kind of money it is required to invest in the 5G spectrum. But there's one thing that Vi can manage to do when it comes to 5G. Vodafone Idea can repurpose its 4G network and core for offering 5G services with the help of Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS) technology which Bharti Airtel has already done.

Why Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel Will Be Leaders In 5G?

The reason why Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel will lead the 5G race in India is their current market standing. They are in a very good position to invest money into the 5G spectrum, 5G equipment, and overall infrastructure to rollout 5G services as soon as possible. The same can't be said for Vodafone Idea and BSNL. BSNL can't even think about jumping to 5G before it has a live 4G network present in India. The telcos can go about 5G in two different ways. One is the 5G standalone (SA) and the 5G NSA (non-standalone). While 5G SA can be built by any telco regardless of whether it has a 4G network or not, the 5G NSA requires the presence of a 4G core. BSNL can't go for 5G SA because it simply doesn't have the resource and the kind of market standing where it would see a return on its investment. It can go for 5G NSA, but it doesn't have 4G networks present around the country.

Jio and Airtel Have Made Huge Leaps With 5G

Both Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel have already made huge leaps when it comes to 5G. Jio has developed and tested indigenous 5G solutions with success, while Airtel had just announced successful cloud gaming with the help of its 5G network in Gurgaon. In the coming months, it is only expected that both the operators will make more announcements regarding 5G. It's absolutely alright for Vi and BSNL for focusing on 4G and keep developing 5G in the backend because 4G will still be a consumer play for the telcos for at least the next 5 years.
