Vodafone Idea’s Future Changed Positively in a Month Posted: 01 Oct 2021 09:13 AM PDT Vodafone Idea's (Vi) future has changed in the course of one month. The telco, which was feared to go bankrupt in the coming years, is now confident about its 5G plans. All of this has been possible because of the relief package that the government announced for the sector. But there's one more thing you can't deny; Vi was largely in debt to the government. The telco's networks aren't necessarily poor, yet, it was in the position of going out of business? Is Vodafone Idea alone to be blamed here? Some would agree, but I believe it was also a lot to do with the government reforms and policies around spectrum usage charges (SUC), adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues, amongst other things. The relief package now allows a moratorium on the payments of dues for the next four years. The government has further redefined AGR and will now not include non-telecom revenues in it. This is a great thing for Vi. So what's next for the telco? Vodafone Idea (Vi) Promoters Might Infuse CapitalAshwini Vaishaw recently confirmed to ET Telecom that Vodafone Idea promoters are ready to invest more capital into the company. This means that the telco's short-term cash flow worries are going to be resolved. Since there is no huge debt payment ahead, if the telco is able to secure additional funds soon, it can work on its network coverage issues. Opensignal recently released its monthly insights report for September 2021, and in the report, it is clearly visible just how far behind Vodafone Idea is from Airtel and Jio when it comes to providing network coverage. But that can be rectified very fast as the telco can aggressively invest in its networks. As per a PTI report, Himanshu Kapania, Non-Executive Chairman, Vodafone Idea, recently said that the telco is confident about investing in new technologies, which include 5G. This is because of the relief package that has come in as a saviour of the company. This has largely helped the stock of the company as well. With tariff hikes in the near future, who knows, Vodafone Idea might just be able to get traction from outside investors as well! Don't forget that the telco had already received approval for raising Rs 25,000 crores from outside investors. One of the biggest things that 5G will bring for the telecom operators, including Vodafone Idea, is enterprise revenues. 5G use cases largely point in the direction of more and more enterprises adopting it aggressively rather than mobile users who can do almost everything with a good 4G network.

Starlink Taking Pre-Order Deposits Is Not Fair: Telecom Watchdog Posted: 01 Oct 2021 07:24 AM PDT SpaceX, founded by Elon Musk and its satellite internet venture Starlink's bid for a foraying into the Indian satellite broadband sector in 2022, is facing a lot of challenges. A consumer forum and NGO, Telecom Watchdog, has alleged that Starlink Internet Services is cheating users in India as it has started accepting pre-orders for the satellite internet service for a completely refundable deposit of $99 (nearly Rs 7,500) even before securing a licence in the country. Starlink Faces ChallengesAs per ET Telecom, the telecom NGO wrote a letter to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) secretary. In this letter, it alleged that Starlink's decision to accept bookings and collect money from the consumers in India in US dollars without submitting an application to get a licence is illegal. Also, it notes that this act is a serious offence as per the RBI Rules. The letter further added that the RBI rules permit remittance to a foreign party only for certain purposes for which the party has the right to get the money. Furthermore, it stated that consumers are being cheated by a company that belongs to a foreign country registered as Starlink Internet Services Ltd. This company is registered in tax haven Ireland as per the details on the DoT website. The prime reason for this accusation is that Starlink has not got any licence from the Indian government to provide satellite-based communication services in the country to date, but it is asking interested users to pay $99 per deposit. Apparently, it calls this illegal money collection. Notably, a copy of the letter written to the DoT secretary has been market to the telecom minister Ashwini Vaishnav and to P D Vaghela, the TRAI chairman. Furthermore, the letter urged DoT to take immediate action to stop the illegal activities of Starlink Internet Services. Prior to this, Starlink faced a challenge in March 2021 wherein the Broadband India Forum, an industry body that represents the likes of Amazon, OneWeb, Hughes, Microsoft, Google and Facebook, wrote to TRAI and ISRO asking them to stop SpaceX from pre-selling its Starlink satellite internet services beta version in India. It was cited that the company did not secure a licence from the government back then as well. However, Starlink's website notes that it targets to launch its services in 2022 in the country and is subject to regulatory approvals, and its services will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

iPhone 11, iPhone 12 or iPhone 13, What Should You Buy? Posted: 01 Oct 2021 12:01 AM PDT Following the launch of the iPhone 13 series, the prices of the iPhone 11 and the iPhone 12 series have fallen. In fact, with Flipkart's Big Billion Days that is going to start soon, users will get even heavier discounts on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 11 series devices. It is expected that the iPhone 12 series might start at Rs 50,000 while the iPhone 11 series at Rs 40,000. If you are confused about which device you should go for, read till the end. iPhone 11, iPhone 12, and iPhone 13, What is Perfect for You?First of all, you should know that all these iPhones are going to perform impeccably for you. iPhone 11 series comes with A13 Bionic, iPhone 12 series with A14 Bionic, and iPhone 13 series with A15 Bionic. Neither of the iPhones will be a slow experience for you. The difference will come in the design and the camera experience. The iPhone 13 will have the best camera features, followed by the iPhone 12 and then, at last, the iPhone 11. You can play games and do almost everything on the iPhone 11 series devices than you can in the iPhone 12 series. The iPhone 13 series is the only device that features the 'Cinematic Mode' of Apple. Then the design difference is there. The iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series very much look-alike, while the iPhone 11 series is totally different. But the iPhone 11 series devices are beautiful nonetheless. In terms of features and OS, the iPhone 11 series will also run on the iOS 15, just like the iPhone 13 and iPhone 12 series (given that the user updates). The thing is, if you are an average smartphone user who can live with a 4G device for the next 3 to 4 years, the iPhone 11 is still a great buy. iPhone 12 series is also good, but it is a little more expensive with a marginally better camera and a different design. You could instead buy a larger memory variant of the iPhone 11 instead of going for the iPhone 12 series. There's just one compromise with the older iPhones, and that is the battery. They don't come with good battery life performance. If battery life and camera is the priority for you, iPhone 13 is for the win. Here is the detailed difference between iPhone 11 vs iPhone 12 series.

Apple India Is Giving Away Free AirPods Posted: 30 Sep 2021 09:19 PM PDT Apple India is giving away free AirPods to users starting October 7, 2021. But there is a condition to the free offering. The user must purchase a new iPhone 12 from the Apple India store. The offer isn't applicable on offline purchases of the device. The iPhone 13's unavailability and low stock are definitely going to keep the discounted iPhone 12 series in the highlight this festive season. Now, to make the iPhone 12 series even more attractive, Apple is going to be offering free AirPods to the users. Apple AirPods Pro Included as WellFirst of all, note that Apple will only offer the free AirPods with the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 12. The Pro models are not included in the offer. Further, all the AirPods, which are AirPods with wired charging case, AirPods with wireless charging case, and AirPods Pro, are available under the offer. But Apple is definitely not expected to offer the AirPods Pro for completely free. Looking at the company's education offer in India, it is expected that the only completely free AirPods offered to the users will be AirPods with wired charging case. The other two AirPods are expected to be available at a discounted price. As mentioned above, this festive offer from Apple will start on October 7, 2021. The company has said that because of the shortage in stock supply, there might be delays in orders. Further, users can't club this offer with the education offer that Apple is providing. All of the users in India are allowed a maximum of two promotion products. Analysts have predicted that the iPhone 12 series will drive Apple's sales in the festive season of India. This is because Apple is facing a supply shortage in the components of making the iPhone 13, and because of that, the smartphone is only available in limited quantities. Everyone should be ideally eligible to receive the offer from the company starting October 7, 2021.
Bharti Airtel Has a Better Rs 499 Postpaid Plan Compared to Vi Posted: 30 Sep 2021 06:37 PM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Bharti Airtel both offer almost a similar postpaid plan. The plan that we are talking about comes for Rs 499. Both the companies offer them with the same kind of data benefits and other benefits. Even the over-the-top (OTT) benefits are almost similar. In scenarios such as this, it becomes hard to decide which plan one should go for. If you are looking for a postpaid plan around Rs 500 and are considering purchasing offerings between Airtel and Vi, here is everything you should know. Bharti Airtel Rs 499 Postpaid PlanLet's first look at the benefits of either of the plans individually. The Rs 499 postpaid plan from Bharti Airtel offers users 75GB of data in a month. There is also a data rollover facility of up to 200GB. Users also get 100 SMS/day with this plan along with unlimited voice calling. The OTT benefits include Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, Airtel Xstream Premium, and other Airtel Thanks benefits. Once the users have consumed the fair-usage-policy (FUP) data offered by the plan, they will be charged 2 paise per MB of data consumption. As for the SMSes, after reaching the FUP limit users will be charged 10 paise per SMS. The benefits of Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar subscription is given for 1 year without any extra cost.Vodafone Idea Rs 499 Postpaid PlanThe Vodafone Idea Rs 499 postpaid plan offers users unlimited voice calling, 100 SMS/month, and 75GB of FUP data. The data rollover facility offered by this plan is also the same as Airtel's which is 200GB. The additional benefits offered with the plan include a free subscription of Amazon Prime Video for 1 year and a Disney+ Hotstar Mobile Subscription for one year. There is also Vi Movies & TV subscription offered to the users. In hindsight, Airtel's plan look a tad bit better. This is largely because of the SMS benefits. With Vi's plan, you get only 100 SMS/month but with Airtel's plan, you get 100 SMS/day. Further, the additional benefits offered by Airtel's plan are way more than what Vi offers to its users. One of the biggest things that you should do before choosing either of the postpaid plans is identifying the kind of network service that particular operator is offering where you live and work. Anyway, just looking at the benefits, there's no doubt that Bharti Airtel's Rs 499 postpaid plan is better than what Vodafone Idea is offering for the same price.
