Reliance Jio ARPU Up by 3.7% to Rs 143.6 in Q2 FY22

Posted: 22 Oct 2021 08:54 AM PDT

Reliance Jio Reliance Jio's average revenue per user (ARPU) has gone up to Rs 143.6 in the September quarter. It is a growth of 3.7% compared to the ARPU of the preceding quarter. Not only that, but the company's quarterly net profit also increased from Rs 3,651 crore in Q1 FY22 to Rs 3,728 crore in Q2 FY22. Talking about the half-yearly performance, Jio's net profit for the first half of the financial year has jumped from Rs 5,538 crore in H1 FY21 to Rs 7,379 crore in H1 FY22. The rise in ARPU will be a big boost for the telco as it was often scrutinised for adding more number of low-paying subscribers.

Data Consumption by Reliance Jio Users Increased

During the September quarter, the average data consumed by per user per month was 17.6GB and the average voice calling minutes consumed by per user per month was Rs 840 minutes. Further, as per TRAI, Jio kept the top position in offering the fastest average 4G download speeds of 20.9 Mbps in India. Reliance Jio said that it had added a gross number of 35.6 million users in the Q2 FY22. This was the highest figure for the telco in the last seven quarters. The company said that it saw healthy traction in both the FTTH and mobility sector. Reliance Jio reported the total data traffic to be 23 billion gigabytes (GB) during the quarter which is a 50.9% YoY growth. Further, the voice traffic grew by 1.09 trillion minutes during the quarter which is a 17.6% YoY growth. The total customer base of the telco at the end of September 30, 2021, was 429.5 million users. The telco reported net additions of 23.8 million subscribers YoY. It is worth noting that Opensignal recently awarded Reliance Jio as the telco providing the best video experience in India along with providing the best coverage and availability of 4G networks.

Apple iPhone SE 3 Could Resemble iPhone XR

Posted: 22 Oct 2021 06:43 AM PDT

Apple iPhone SE 3 Back in September, Apple took the wraps off as many as four new iPhones in the iPhone 13 series. Though these devices have the best features, they cost a bomb. For the price conscious Apple fans, the iPhone SE is available at a lesser cost. In select global markets such as India, the iPhone SE 2020 witnessed a great success. The iPhone SE 2020 was launched four years post the original variant. Now, the company is eying to launch the next-generation iPhone SE that is slated to be launched next year. Also, it is believed that the device could be the last one to feature an LCD display.

Apple iPhone SE 3 Details

As per a report by MyDrivers, a Chinese publication, the iPhone SE 3 could feature a relatively compact form factor of the iPhone XR, which was launched back in 2018. Since the iPhone SE is a low-cost model, the Cupertino tech giant prioritises both the camera and performance, while the design is said to be borrowed from the above-mentioned model launched a few years back.

For those who are unaware, the original iPhone SE appeared to resemble the iPhone 5s while the iPhone SE 2020 is similar to the iPhone 8. Eventually, there could be no surprise that the iPhone SE 3 could resemble the iPhone XR. Given that the iPhone XR was one of the successful models launched by Apple that continued to sell for over two generations until the launch of the iPhone 13, the Apple iPhone SE 3 could also be successful. When we say iPhone XR-like design, it means that there could be a notch and no Home button. However, we can expect Face ID to be available on the next-generation affordable iPhone. Speculations hint that the iPhone SE 3 might feature a Touch ID at the side similar to the iPad. Based on previous reports, the iPhone SE 3 is expected to arrive with an A15 Bionic chipset that is used by the iPhone 13 series. It is expected to have a similar performance as the iPhone 13 but the cameras may not be great and might miss out on Cinematic Mode. Also, word is that the iPhone SE 3 could be priced at Rs 42,500 onwards.

COAI Says Amendments in Indian Telegraph RoW Rules to Help With 5G

Posted: 22 Oct 2021 06:00 AM PDT

COAI The laying of fiber is going to be one of the biggest challenges for telecom companies and internet service providers. Especially with 5G, the role of fiber will multiple by several times. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has applauded the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) move to amend the Indian Telegraph RoW rules and add various terms and conditions for laying overhead optical fiber cable (OFC).

COAI Believes This Move from DoT Will Reduce Logistical Costs

COAI, an industry body that represents companies such as Vodafone Idea, Reliance Jio, and Bharti Airtel said that the recent move from the DoT will ensure that the necessary infrastructure can be built by the companies at the lowest logistical costs. Be it mobile wifeliness internet or wired broadband, fiber cables are fundamental to ensure that consistent and high-quality services are delivered. With the current amendments, the DoT has allowed the companies to lay overhead OFC. This will be a big move because it will reduce the network rollout costs for the internet companies and telecom operators. Further, it will boost India's vision of 5G radically. COAI said that the current amendment from the DoT will help with providing connectivity in all the villages of the country through OFC by 2023. In simple words, this means that the telcos and the internet service providers (ISPs) can lay overhead optical fiber cables. They don't need to dig around and also don't have to worry about additional costs related to it. As per the amendments, the companies will have to prescribe a one-time compensation of Rs 1,000 per kilometre for the laying of OFC. This will further lead to a fee/levy charged by the local authorities. The telcos and the ISPs will be happy to hear this because now they will be able to rollout out networks and new technologies much faster. It will definitely help the country by providing rural connectivity as fast as possible.

Vodafone Idea Has More than Half of Its Subscribers in Rural India

Posted: 22 Oct 2021 04:10 AM PDT

Vodafone Idea Vodafone Idea (Vi) has more than 50% or half of its subscriber base living in rural India. As per the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report, Vi had 273.88 million subscribers at the end of the June 2021 quarter. The telco lost more than 10 million subscribers when compared with the previous quarter. However, on an interesting note, Vodafone Idea has 50.98% of its subscribers located in rural India. Even though the telco's market share in rural subscribers is 26.02% which is lower than that of Airtel (32.01%) and Jio's (34.77%), Vodafone Idea has a significant number of users living in the rural country. This could mean two things. First, the rural subscribers love the telco's network services, or the urban city users just don't want to latch on to Vi's networks.

Vodafone Idea ARPU Might be Affected Because of This

Not to take anything away from the people living in rural India, but the general consensus and the logic would suggest that people in the rural areas won't spend as much as people in the urban cities will do in consuming mobile services. Because Vi's half of the subscribers live in rural India, its average revenue per user (ARPU) might be dropping. Further, a lot of 4G users in rural India might be using Vodafone Idea's Rs 49 plan, which was discontinued in the September quarter. This could be a contributing factor for Vi losing subscribers in August 2021. What Vi needs right now is a higher ARPU. The telco wouldn't want to stick with low ARPU customers for long because of its bad cash flow position so far. While the relief measure will help, a tariff hike is required for Vi to sustain in the long term. Vi has over 139.61 million subscribers living in rural India. Compared to this, Airtel has 171.73 million, and Jio has 186.56 million subscribers in the rural parts of the country.

MacBook Air 2022 Might Not be Much Different from New MacBook Pro

Posted: 22 Oct 2021 02:28 AM PDT

MacBook Air MacBook Air 2022 might not be much different from the new MacBook Pro models launched recently. However, the laptop isn't expected to feature the M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets. Users might see the new generation M2 chipset on the MacBook Air 2022. In terms of design, the MacBook Air 2022 might not be much different from what we saw on the MacBook Pro 2021 models. A new leak suggests that MacBook Air 2022 will retain a lot of MacBook Pro 2021 features.

MacBook Air 2022 Might Come With Same Design as of New MacBook Pro

The MacBook Air 2022 might not come with a wedge-like design. Instead, it might look just like the MacBook Pro 2021, but being lighter and thinner at the same time. As per a popular tipster Dylan, the MacBook Air 2022 might come with white bezels around the screen and lose the wedge shape (which is sort of sad). Further, the MacBook Air 2022 might not come with an SD card reader or an HDMI port. There's one more thing that the tipster claims users will not see on the MacBook Air 2022, and that is 'ProMotion' display technology. With the ProMotion display, Apple could increase the refresh rate support up to 120Hz for the MacBook Pro 2021. The MacBook Air is generally in the lower end and thus it isn't expected to support ProMotion. But the users could see an upgrade in the front camera. The MacBook Air 2022 could come with a 1080p camera sensor, USB Type-C ports, and a 30W power adapter. As per previous leaks, it can be expected that MacBook Air 2022 will feature a min-LED display. What will be interesting is to see how good the M2 chipset would be in terms of performance. It isn't clear when Apple plans to launch the MacBook Air 2022, but it should be in the second half of 2022 only.

Tata Sky Retained Market Share Leadership in Q1 FY22

Posted: 22 Oct 2021 01:04 AM PDT

Tata Sky Tata Sky has retained its market share leadership in Q1 FY22. As per a report shared by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), Tata Sky was the number one Direct-to-Home (DTH) operator in India for the quarter ending June 2021. The company has maintained its lead in being the number one player in the Pay-TV genre in India. Commenting on the same, a Tata Sky spokesperson said, "This is an outcome of the service commitment we have to our subscribers and our subscribers' faith in us".

Tata Sky Ahead of Dish-D2h, Airtel, and Sun Direct in India

Not only has Tata Sky maintained its lead in the market share, but it has also increased its market share from the preceding quarter. In the quarter ending (QE) June 2021, Tata Sky had 33.37% of the market share in India. Tata Sky was followed by Dish-D2h, which had a market share of 23.45% during the same quarter. Airtel and Sun Direct had 25.76% and 17.41% of the market share, respectively. Tata Sky's market share grew from 33.30% in the QE March 2021 to 33.37% in the QE June 2021. Likewise, Airtel's market share grew from 25.54% in the QE March 2021 to 25.76% in the QE June 2021. Even Sun Direct saw positive growth in the market share. However, Dish-D2h saw a decline in the market share from 24.09% in the QE March 2021 to 23.45% in the QE June 2021. It looks like the other three companies mentioned above took the customers of Dish-D2h. The decline in market share is sharp and something that Dish-D2h will be worried about. It is worth noting that until a few years back, Dish-D2h gave a tough competition to Tata Sky, but now, there's literally no company that's going head-to-head against Tata Sky. For a long time now, it doesn't feel like any DTH company will be able to overtake Tata Sky in India.

Tagg Verve Plus Review: Affordable and Classy

Posted: 22 Oct 2021 12:03 AM PDT

Tagg Verve Plus Review The competition in the smartwatch segment in India has increased rapidly. More and more people are adopting smartwatches. But the issue is, most of the decent smartwatches are not very affordable. This leaves a huge chunk of the market to entry-level low-grade products. But in my opinion, Tagg Verve Plus has changed that. It is a smartwatch that was recently launched by Tagg and is priced in the affordable segment as well. Tagg is a consumer electronics brand that sells a range of products, including smartwatches. Let me tell you how my experience with the Tagg Verve Plus was.

Tagg Verve Plus Review: Design, Display and Look

Tagg Verve Plus The Tagg Verve Plus comes with a square dial with soft round edges. It doesn't feel premium but looks decent regardless. The straps are made of silicone and are detachable, meaning you can change up the look of the smartwatch any time you want. The Tagg Verve Plus is not too heavy, but it could have been lighter. The sensors are at the bottom, which is how it should be, and the charging port is at the bottom too. Tagg offers a magnetic charging port to the users, and it works really well. There is plenty of room to tighten the fit if you have a small wrist, and the users with the thickest wrists can also wear it comfortably. Tagg product I got the black variant for review, which looks really good. I think since it is black, you can safely wear it anywhere you are going, and it will look good only. The hook could have been black as well for the black strap; it looks better that way. But Tagg has gone with a silver hook which, in my opinion, is not that great. However, it still looks great. Tagg The display of the Tagg Verve Plus is 1.69-inch in size. It is an IPS-LCD display with low-resolution support of 240×280 pixels. The maximum brightness supported is 500 nits which is really decent. You can comfortably switch the watch face directly from the smartwatch or the mobile app. The low resolution is something which I don't like. But you can't really complain because of the price at which Tagg Verve Plus is available in. Even the colours on the screen aren't really that good, but they work for someone who wants a basic smartwatch to get by with.

Tagg Verve Plus Review: Features and Performance

Tagg Tagg Verve Plus has multiple features that I appreciate. First of all, in all the time I have been using it (which is more than a week now), I have not had to charge it once. The smartwatch will comfortably run for another three days. This is around the same figure that the company promised, which is ten days of performance in a single charge. Note that the battery capacity is 180mAh, and it takes up to 2 hours for the smartwatch to charge completely. Tagg weather app It was a very convenient experience with the Tagg Verve Plus because it gave me most of the app and call notifications from my smartphone directly on the smartwatch. Another feature that I appreciate about this smartwatch is sleep tracking. Though I don't wear it every time I go to sleep, it is good for days where I really need to track how much I am sleeping. Tagg watch The smartwatch supports in-app GPS, which allows for accurate distance tracking. Talking about the distance, I have taken the Tagg Verve Plus for running twice now. It is handy and comfy while running, but most of all, it is accurate in distance tracking. The smartwatch is also IP67 rated, which means it is waterproof. Coming to the sports modes, there are over 16 of them. You can choose from a variety of activity modes, including Skipping, Cycling, Badminton, Swimming, Tennis, Table Tennis, Hiking, Walking, Football, Basketball, Dancing, Yoga, Sit Up, Indoor Running, and Outdoor Running. Tagg fitness There is a women's health feature which is called "Menstrual Cycle Monitor", and it will help women track their periods. There is also support for SpO2 monitoring, heart-rate monitoring, and body temperature monitoring. All of the sensors inside the smartwatch are vital, especially during the era of the pandemic.

Tagg Verve Plus Review: Price and Conclusion

Tagg device The Tagg Verve Plus is a great smartwatch for someone who wants a budget device. The display is responsive, and it doesn't lag, which is a good thing. The screen size is something which I really appreciate because everything can be easily read. Further, it is very easy to navigate through the different features of the smartwatch. Whether you want to reduce the brightness or do something else, you will be able to do everything very smoothly and easily. Don't take it as a premium smartwatch, though. While it has almost everything, it is still not a premium gadget, and that is justified because of its price. This device can be your perfect partner if you want to go for running, track sleep, and use other health features on a regular basis. The price of the Tagg Verve Plus is Rs 1,899 in India. The dial is available in three colour variants – silver, black, and golden. The best thing is that the Tagg+ app that you will have to download on your smartphone will work with both iOS and Android devices. The Tagg Verve Plus is already available on the official website of Flipkart. Tagg product review

Vodafone Idea Might Turn a New Leaf With 5G

Posted: 21 Oct 2021 10:22 PM PDT

Vodafone Idea Vodafone Idea (Vi) is getting pretty aggressive with its 5G trials in India. The telco was the first in the country to test 5G with mmWave spectrum, achieving speeds of up to 3.7 Gbps. Further, the telco is aggressively partnering up with other companies/platforms to test 5G for enterprises or industry 4.0 solutions. In the last four days itself, Vi has announced that it has partnered with Athonet and Larson & Toubro (L&T) for testing enterprise and smart city solutions. Both tests are geared to bring a lot of B2B revenues for the company.

Vodafone Idea Might Focus on B2B More

Vodafone Idea definitely understands its market position as a B2C company. Competitors like Jio and Airtel are far ahead in attracting customers. Despite offering unique and full of value prepaid plans, Vi is unable to add new wireless subscribers. Thus, while Vi is investing in its 4G networks, the company will also be looking at other ways to bring revenues. Everyone in the industry understands the use cases of 5G. As I have previously suggested, the telecom operators will focus more on 4G for B2C revenues for the next few years, and with 5G, the enterprise sector is where the whole game will be. Most of the users will be hesitant for paying more for 5G if they can get good 4G services with consistent speed and coverage. Vodafone Idea knows this, and that is why it might be banking on the rise in enterprise revenues with 5G. Things such as private networks, network slicing, and more will come into play with 5G. The telco is already testing multiple enterprise and smart city solutions for 5G. There could be a significant rise in enterprise revenues for the telcos with 5G. Vodafone Idea might want to be at the forefront with enterprise 5G solutions while Jio and Airtel focus more on the B2C segment. This doesn't mean that Vodafone Idea can't invest in 4G at the same time. The telco's cash flow position will certainly be better than what it used to be because of the relief measures. This will help it in investing aggressively in 4G networks as well.

Bharti Airtel Rights Issue Oversubscribed by 1.44 Times

Posted: 21 Oct 2021 08:31 PM PDT

Bharti Airtel Rights Issue As per a filing by Bharti Airtel in the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), its rights issue has been oversubscribed by 1.44 times. The telco said that this is an approximate figure. Both the public and promoter groups have overbid for the rights issue. All the applications received are still subject to verification and clearing of payments. Further, the final basis of allotment is also left. According to ET Telecom, big names such as ICICI Prudential MF, SBI Life Insurance, Mirae Asset Large Cap Fund, Lion Meadow Investment, Nippon MF, SBI MF, and EuroPacific Growth Fund are a few of the names which have bid for getting shares in Bharti Airtel's rights issue of Rs 21,000 crores.

Bharti Airtel Will be Diluted by 7%

As per the rights issue rules laid out by the telco, it is clear that the company's current shareholders are going to be diluted by 7%. Airtel shareholders will be eligible to buy one rights issue share for every 14 shares they are holding. Bharti Airtel promoters, including the Mittal family and Singtel, have kept their promise of subscribing to the rights issue. The promoters had also promised that they would subscribe to all the unsubscribed shares in the rights issue. The telco plans to use the money from the rights issue to service all of its major and high-cost debt. Further, the additional capital will help Bharti Airtel in expanding its 4G network in India and also invest in 5G aggressively. The 5G spectrum auctions are not too far now if they are going to take place in the last quarter of FY22. It is worth noting that this is Bharti Airtel's second rights issue in two years. Previously, the telco had raised capital through a rights issue in May 2019. With the relief measures in place and the additional capital from the rights issue, Bharti Airtel will be in a very good position soon.
