| Why Did Reliance Jio Lose Subscribers After Long-Time Posted: 28 Oct 2021 01:05 PM PDT It was a surprising thing for many to see Reliance Jio's subscriber base declining after years in the September quarter. For the unaware, Jio lost as many as 11.1 million subscribers in the quarter ending September 2021. No one ever expects Jio to lose subscribers in a quarter, not even the telco's competitors. So what caused this decline in the numbers? Here's everything you should know. Reasons Why Reliance Jio Lost Subscribers in the September 2021 QuarterAccording to ICICI Securities, Jio had cleaned its inactive subscriber base during the quarter. The analyst said that despite the cleaning of inactive subscribers, the average revenue per user (ARPU) growth for the telco was underwhelming. So one possible reason is Jio clearing out its inactive subs. Even Nitin Soni, Senior Director, Fitch Ratings, told Economic Times that the "deactivation of low-paying users" has helped with the ARPU growth of the company. This was something that Jio would have badly wanted to do for long now. This is good for the company in the long run. Even though the subscribers have declined during the quarter, the telco is earning more out of its active ones. Jio still has the worst active subscriber percentage as compared to Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel. But one thing that works for Jio is that it is a 4G only company. Meaning, all of the customers who are active, even though they are less are consuming 4G services. With ARPU also increasing, it would result in better revenues for Jio. This is what any company in Jio's position would want to do. Reliance Jio must be confident about its plans of launching the JioPhone Next. If this affordable 4G smartphone from the company is a success, it will result in a much aggressive subscriber addition for the company. However, only time will tell whether the JioPhone Next is meant to change the 2G landscape in India or will it just be another smartphone in the market. |

Samsung Galaxy M52 5G DiscountThe Samsung Galaxy M52 5G was launched in two storage configurations. The base variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space was priced at Rs 29,999 and the high-end variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage space was priced at Rs 31,999. Taking the discount into consideration, the smartphone will retail for Rs 24,999 and Rs 26,999 for the two variants respectively. This is a limited period offer that will be applicable between October 28 and October 31. As mentioned above, the discount is not applicable on the 6GB variant of the Galaxy M52 5G that can be purchased for Rs 25,999 for the 6GB RAM variant and Rs 27,999 for the 8GB RAM variant. Given that it is available at a discount, if you want to upgrade to a new smartphone, then you can consider buying the Galaxy M52 5G at a discount.Samsung Galaxy M52 5G SpecsTo detail on its specs, the Samsung Galaxy M52 5G makes use of a 6.7-inch display with a FHD+ resolution. | BSNL Has Brought Back its Most Affordable Broadband Plan Posted: 28 Oct 2021 07:54 AM PDT Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has brought back its most affordable FTTH broadband plan for users. The plan that we are talking about is "Fibre Experience 399". This comes with 30 Mbps of speed but doesn't offer 3.3TB data like the Rs 449 plan to the users. There is a shorter fair-usage-policy (FUP) data limit with this plan. It has been reintroduced for 90 days only and will be given to the users as a promotional offer. BSNL Fibre Experience Rs 399 Plan Has Been ReintroducedBSNL has reintroduced the Fibre Experience plan that costs Rs 399 per month. It also offers 30 Mbps of data like the Rs 449 plan but only comes with 1TB or 1,000GB of data. After using this plan for continuous six months, users will be migrated to the Fibre Basic plan of Rs 449. Since it is a promotional offer that is here for 90 days, it won't be available to the users in half-yearly or yearly service validity configurations. Users will also be eligible to receive 24 hours of unlimited voice calling with this plan. After consuming the FUP data offered by the plan, users will get only 2 Mbps of speed. Note that this plan will only be available to the new users living in the Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Telangana, and Kerala circles. It is frankly not much cheaper than the Rs 449 plan, but it works for users who even want to save Rs 50 per month and can survive with 30 Mbps of speed and 1TB data. Even the Rs 449 plan offers 30 Mbps of internet speed. But it offers a much higher FUP data limit of 3.3TB. Anyway, this plan is available for the customers for 90 days if they want to subscribe to it. BSNL's broadband services are almost present across India, which is a good thing if you want this plan. But since it is available for customers of select regions, this doesn't make a lot of difference, does it? |
| Reliance Jio Pays Rs 10,792 Crore to DoT Posted: 28 Oct 2021 06:53 AM PDT Reliance Jio, the fastest-growing telecom operator in the country has paid the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) an amount of Rs 10,792 crore. This way, it completely clears the dues towards spectrum purchased in the 2016 auctions, claimed a person familiar with this matter. As per a report by PTI, the person stated that Jio has paid Rs 10,792 crore to the DoT for the airwaves that were purchased in 2016. However, they still have dues that are pending for spectrum bought in 2013 and some of 2010. Reliance Jio Pays DoTThe payment made by Reliance Jio came at a time when Bharti Airtel has accepted the proposal from the government for a four-year moratorium on spectrum and AGR (adjusted gross revenue) payments. This was a move that is estimated by analysts to help India's second largest telco save an amount of Rs 11,000 crore to Rs 11,500 crore in annual cash flows. This amount can be utilised for network expansion and to purchase the 5G spectrums. On the other hand, Vodafone aka Vi has opted for a spectrum moratorium that will give the telco, which is cash-strapped some extent of cashflow relief that is worth around Rs 60,000 crore. Another industry executive stated that Jio has not confirmed if it will opt for a spectrum moratorium for the pending dues to the government. Notably, Jio has time until October 29 to respond to avail the option of spectrum moratorium. In the meantime, a DoT letter follows the relief package announced by the Indian government in mid September. It included the four-year moratorium on AGR as well as spectrum payments, steeply reduced BGs, and an option to convert the statutory dues into government equity. However, both Vi and Airtel are yet to confirm the equity conversion. Notably. Vi is yet to respond on AGR dues. |

Previous reports related to peak brightness hinted that the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra might feature a maximum brightness of 1,800 nits. However, this is just a speculation and we cannot take this report seriously until there is an official confirmation.Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Rumoured SpecsRecently, we have been coming across other rumoured specs of the Galaxy S22 Ultra. | BSNL Is the King of Wired Broadband Services in India Posted: 28 Oct 2021 03:53 AM PDT While Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) couldn't make much of an impact with its wireless services (because of 4G's absence), the state-run telco has certainly proved itself to be the king of wired broadband services. BSNL has been adding 100000 new wired broadband connections in India every month. According to the data shared by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), BSNL held a 25.63% market share in the wired broadband segment with 6.03 million subscribers, followed by Bharti Airtel at the second with 3.37 million subscribers in the Quarter Ending (QE) June 2021. India Had 23.52 Million Wired Broadband Customers at the End of June 2021As per TRAI data, there were a total of 792.78 million broadband customers in India at the end of June 2021. However, out of this huge figure, only 23.52 million subscribers were wired broadband subscribers. This just shows that the wired broadband connection hasn't even touched the surface in the Indian market. One thing that clicks for BSNL is its presence across the nation. Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, the top competitors of BSNL, might not make fiber investments in areas where there is less demand for services. However, BSNL's whole aim is to connect India to the internet before looking at profits which is a good thing. At the same time, BSNL's FTTH plans offer over-the-top (OTT) benefits, 3.3TB data and now also come with long-term validities after being regularised. All of these factors count in favour of BSNL and makes it the top wired broadband service provider in the country. Bharti Airtel is in the second position, but it is halfway down from BSNL's figures which means that the state-run telco has the foundation for becoming the largest wired broadband service provider in India for the long run. The revenues from wired broadband services are expected to grow in the near future. |

However, with Xstream Box, you can stream content from Netflix which you can't do with the Tata Sky Binge+ STB. |
| Excitel Offering 200 Mbps Plan for Less than Rs 200 Per Month Posted: 28 Oct 2021 12:10 AM PDT Excitel, one of the fastest-growing internet service providers (ISPs) in India is providing its 200 Mbps broadband plan for a monthly cost of less than Rs 200. The company is calling it "Swift Onboarding Plan" where it wants more and more Indians to be able to enjoy high-speed broadband services. This reduces the onboarding costs and helps users understand how fiber broadband can help them stay inside their homes. It is worth noting that Excitel has become the first ISP in India to offer a 200 Mbps broadband plan for less than Rs 200 per month. Pay Rs 500 to Excitel and Get 200 Mbps plan for 3 MonthsExcitel will be charging a one-time fee of Rs 500 from the users against which the company will provide a 200 Mbps plan for three months. This effectively means that the customers have to pay only Rs 166.66 per month for the 200 Mbps plan. There is not a single ISP in India that is offering such a deal to its customers. The company will offer uniform 200 Mbps download and upload speed to the users. In addition to that, Excitel will offer truly unlimited data with this plan without any fair usage policy (FUP) restrictions. There are no OTT benefits delivered with this plan but that is fair as it is available at such a low cost. The 'Swift Onboarding Plan' will be available for customers living in Delhi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru. It is a one-time introductory offer for the customers who are going for new connections. Existing customers can't avail this amazing 200 Mbps plan offer from Excitel. Normally, Excitel customers have to pay Rs 799 per month for the 200 Mbps plan. Even purchasing it for 12 months doesn't make the plan this cheap for the customers. The company also offers a free dual-band router and free installation. You can also look at the 100 Mbps and 300 Mbps plans of the company once the three months of this offer are complete. |
| BSNL Might Upgrade 50,000 Sites to 4G Within Six Months Post PoC Posted: 27 Oct 2021 11:22 PM PDT Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is working on rolling out 4G networks as soon as possible for its customers across the country. The state-run telco might upgrade over 50,000 sites across India to 4G after the Proof-of-Concept (PoC) is done. In a conversation with ET Telecom, PK Purwar, CMD of BSNL said, the spectrum is not a challenge for the company. Only the availability of the equipment should be there after PoC, and the state-run telco will be able to come out with 4G within six months. Purwar said that the telco had divided its 4G project into two phases. The first phase will focus on 50,000 sites, and the second will focus on 40,000 sites. So in total, the telco will be looking to upgrade over 90,000 sites to 4G in India. BSNL Trying to Overcome the 4G ChallengePurwar told ET Telecom that the company would be getting the carrier equipment of 40W power by November 15, 2021. Initially, the deadline for the same was October 30. But it has been pushed ahead by a month now. Purwar believes once 4G arrives for BSNL, the company will come into a much better position. According to the interview, the capex of the company should be about Rs 14,000 to Rs 15,000 crore, while the opex might come anywhere around 4% to 5% of the capex. Purwar cleared that BSNL has asked for Rs 38,000 crore in the form of equity so that it can use that money to promote homegrown technology. It will also help the telco in overcoming the financial constraints that it has. Purwar said that BSNL had tried to monetise its land assets, but that didn't happen because of the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) will now be restarting the process of monetisation as the economy is opening up and the diminished market appetite is returning now. |
| Hathway Broadband Offers Up to 300 Mbps Plans in Mumbai Posted: 27 Oct 2021 09:59 PM PDT Hathway Broadband is present in multiple cities and regions of India. The company is known for providing consistent and quality internet services to users. Hathway also offers fiber broadband plans to users living in Mumbai. There are plans with 50 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 150 Mbps, 200 Mbps, and 300 Mbps speeds. Most of these plans come with unlimited data. Let's take a look at their price and benefits. Hathway Broadband Prepaid Plans in Mumbai Note that none of the fiber plans from the company are available for a single month subscription for the users. Hathway Broadband offers two 50 Mbps plan to the users. One plan comes with 500GB of data and the other one offers truly unlimited data without any fair-usage-policy restrictions. While the company has listed most of its plans as unlimited, there's a certain FUP limit on data after which the speed will reduce for the users. Interestingly, the FUP limit is not mentioned on the website of the company. One thing that's sad about all of these broadband plans from Hathway is that there are no over-the-top (OTT) benefits offered to the users. It would have been great if Hathway at least bundled OTT benefits with the 200 Mbps and 300 Mbps plans since users are essentially purchasing the company's services for at least three months. In an era where almost every ISP is offering OTT benefits with their high-speed fiber broadband plans, it is strange to see that Hathway doesn't care about it at all. As evident from the picture above, users can go for 3 months, 6 months, and 12 months subscriptions with these plans. Hathway doesn't offer a single month subscription with any of its plans. The company should at least offer users a free trial period just so that they can test the services before putting in a lump-sum payment for several months. |
| iPhone Supply Challenges Help Microsoft Almost Reach Apple Valuation Posted: 27 Oct 2021 08:33 PM PDT Apple almost lost its throne as the most valuable company in the world on Wednesday to Microsoft. The Cupertino tech giant is expected to release its quarterly performance results on Thursday. As per a Reuter report, Apple's shares dipped by 0.3% ahead of the quarterly results. The possible reason why investors might have pulled some of their money out is because of the global-supply chain crisis. While iPhones remain some of the most wanted tech gadgets in the market, Apple hasn't been able to meet the demands because of a supply shortage in components. Microsoft Almost Overtook Apple as the Most Valuable Company in the WorldShares of Microsoft jumped by 4.2% to reach a record $323.17 fuelled by the growth in its Azure cloud-computing business. This helped elevate the company's market cap to $2.426 trillion. According to Refinitiv data, this market cap figure of Microsoft wasn't too behind Apple's market cap of $2.461 trillion. Because of the increase in consumption of cloud-based services, Microsoft's business has expanded in 2021. The company's stock has rallied over 45% this year alone. Since mid-2020, Apple has kept the position of being the most valuable company. That might change if Microsoft's growth keeps at the same rate. As for Apple, the supply chain issues aren't going to fix any time soon. Regardless, the company's sales is expected to see positive growth in the September quarter. In the developing markets, Apple is expected to earn more out of the iPhone 12 series devices which are discounted now instead of the latest iPhone 13 series. Because of limited stock, the iPhone 13 series will only fuel growth into company sales overseas once by the end of the December quarter or in 2022. Microsoft is expected to end the year strong with noticeable growth in cloud services. For years now, Apple and Microsoft have kept on taking place as being the most valuable companies on Wall Street. The trend for this should continue. |
| Airtel Asks to Recharge in 24 Hours or Lose Smartphone Offer Posted: 27 Oct 2021 06:34 PM PDT Bharti Airtel had recently rolled out a new smartphone offer for the users wherein the telco would offer them a cash benefit of Rs 6,000 if they followed all the terms and conditions of the offer. But to get the benefit of the offer, users need to keep recharging with the Rs 249 plan or more continuously for 3 years or 36 months. So what constitutes a continuous recharge? The telco wants users to keep recharging with an eligible plan within 24 hours of the current plan's expiration. If users don't do this, it won't be considered a continuous recharge and the benefits won't be offered. There's more to this. First of all, the offer is only applicable on smartphones that have been purchased on October 8, 2021, or after that. The handset purchased should be a 4G Android device only. Users will have a 30-day window to recharge with an eligible recharge plan after upgrading to the new 4G smartphone. If the users take more time than this, the offer will not be applicable to them. The start date for the offer will be the first time the user makes an eligible recharge. The cashback will be offered to the users in two tranches. If the users have continuously recharged with an eligible plan for 18 months, Rs 2,000 will be credited to the Airtel Payments Bank account of the user. Further, on the completion of 36 months, the user will receive the leftover amount which is Rs 4,000 into his/her Airtel Payments Bank account. The cashback amount will take up to 90 days for reaching the user's account. Note that all the eligible users will be sent a communication from the company to opt for the cashback offer and they will have 15 days to accept it. Users who don't already have an Airtel Payments Bank account will be required to make one. If you are wondering which smartphones are eligible for the cashback offer from Bharti Airtel, refer to the tables below. Bharti Airtel Is Offering Cashback Offer on Purchase of These SmartphonesBharti Airtel will be offering a cashback offer on the purchase of select smartphones. All of the devices are Android phones only. Brands such as Xiaomi, Vivo, Samsung, Oppo, Realme, Tecno, Nokia, Infinix, Itel, Lenovo, Lava, and Motorola have been included by Airtel under its cashback offer. Refer to the table below for knowing about smartphones that are eligible for the Airtel cashback offer. ![]() |
| Bharti Airtel Successfully Raises a Part of Rs 21,000 Crore Rights Issue Posted: 27 Oct 2021 12:27 PM PDT Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest telecom operator, has successfully raised a part of its Rs 21,000 crore rights issue. As per a statement from the telco to the stock exchanges', Airtel's paid-up share capital has increased from Rs 27,460.14 million to Rs 27,950.49 million consisting of 392,287,662 partly paid-up equity shares (Rs 1.25 partly paid-up) and 5,492,027,268 fully paid-up equity shares of Rs 5 each. The telco has raised Rs 5,246.85 crore in the first tranche of the rights issue recently approved by the company's board. Bharti Airtel Had Said Rights Issue Was Over-SubscribedFor the unaware, Bharti Airtel's rights issue of Rs 21,000 crore opened on October 5, 2021, and closed on October 21, 2021. As per an ET Telecom report, names such as Mirae Asset Large Cap Fund, Lion Meadow Investment, SBI Life Insurance, EuroPacific Growth Fund, SBI MF, ICICI Prudential MF, and Nippon MF had bid for the shares in the telco's rights issue. In an earlier statement, Bharti Airtel had said that its rights issue was oversubscribed by 1.44 times. The shares were overbid by both the promoter/promoter group and the public. Promoters including the Mittal family and the SingTel group jointly own approximately 56% of the company. The Mittal family owns around 24.13% of the company, while the SingTel group owns 31.72% of the company. As per the rules of the rights issue, 25% of the money had to be paid on the application, while the rest of the amount can be paid in two tranches within 36 months. The company's board will decide on when the two additional calls will be made. Post the rights issue, Bharti Airtel's shares will be diluted by 7% as the current shareholders of the company will get one share from the rights issue for every 14 shares they hold currently. Bharti Airtel's shares closed at Rs 702.55, which is 0.9% in the high. The telco didn’t have to pay the penalty to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) because the telecom tribunal didn’t hear the case, which might have also had a positive impact on its stock. |

It was a surprising thing for many to see Reliance Jio's subscriber base declining after years in the September quarter. For the unaware, Jio lost as many as 11.1 million subscribers in the quarter ending September 2021. No one ever expects Jio to lose subscribers in a quarter, not even the telco's competitors. So what caused this decline in the numbers? Here's everything you should know.
Samsung Galaxy M52 5G smartphone was launched in India last month. The device was launched at a price point of Rs 29,999 in the country. Now, as we are nearing the festival of Diwali in India, the company has slashed the cost of the Galaxy M52 5G. Notably, this price cut was announced for the offline market and it will not be reflected on the online stores.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has brought back its most affordable FTTH broadband plan for users.
