OneWeb Will Help With Connectivity in Remote Areas

Posted: 05 Oct 2021 01:05 PM PDT

OneWeb in India Bharti owned satellite broadband company, OneWeb, will help with providing network connectivity in remote parts of the country where no terrestrial operator is providing services. OneWeb plans to come to the Indian market by mid-2022. This is when its competitor satellite broadband company Starlink also plans to come to the country. A thing worth noting here is that Starlink has shown no intent in partnering up with any of the telecom operators to provide connectivity. But OneWeb is clear about its plans in joining hands with the telecom operators, not just in India but from around the world. The satcom company wants to help enhance network connectivity in rural and remote parts of several countries by partnering with the telecom operators.

OneWeb Will Help Airtel in Providing Better Networks

OneWeb's Indian subsidiary will help Bharti Airtel in reaching and enhancing network connectivity in rural and remote parts of the country. During a virtual event, Randeep Sekhon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Bharti Airtel, said that OneWeb would help with connectivity in remote parts of the country. If you are wondering why the telecom operators are not too excited about providing network services in remote areas, it is simply because of the low economic value. Telcos need to invest in equipment, infrastructure, and much more before they can provide connectivity services. Doing all this requires a lot of money. In the remote parts of the country, where there is hardly any population, the telcos will not want to waste their money by investing in infrastructure over there since they won't be able to earn profits. But this will not be the case with OneWeb. OneWeb's satellite broadband networks will be able to reach every part of the country, and this can be leveraged by Airtel and other telecom operators in providing enhanced connectivity to the customers. The exact date of the company's arrival in India is still unclear.

BSNL Employees Unhappy With CMD

Posted: 05 Oct 2021 07:24 AM PDT

BSNL Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) employees are working around the clock to ensure that the company sustains and can also provide seamless network services to its customers. However, the BSNL employee union isn't feeling all happy with the current Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of the company, PK Purwar. As per a report from the Business Standard, All Unions and Associations of BSNL (AUAB) had issued a circular on September 27 for the ousting of Purwar from the company. This is due to his failed efforts in reviving the company. While the other private operators, including Jio, Vi, and Airtel, are already 5G ready, BSNL is still trying to roll out 4G networks.

Employees Blaming Purwar for Poor Performance of BSNL

AUAB has said that it will start a social campaign from October 6, 2021, asking for the removal of PK Purwar from his post in the company. The union has expressed its dissatisfaction with the management of BSNL in being able to revive the company. It couldn't happen despite the revival package announced back in 2019. Further, the management hasn't been able to settle the problems of the employees. As per AUAB, if Purwar wanted, BSNL could have launched 4G networks even before April 2020 if the telco had just upgraded 49,300 mobile towers, which already had 4G compatible technology installed by the previous management. Right now, BSNL can only go ahead with 4G if it can source indigenous equipment. Most likely, it will be Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) that will become part of BSNL's 4G drive in India. Despite being late, BSNL can still make a difference in India when it comes to 4G. Another 4G operator will mean that the load from the private operators’ networks' will be reduced. It will be interesting to see how Purwar will respond to this campaign and these allegations from the AUAB. October 6 is when the social media campaign from AUAB will start.

Bharti Airtel Tests 5G in Rural India Ahead of Vi, Jio

Posted: 05 Oct 2021 01:51 AM PDT

Bharti Airtel Bharti Airtel has beaten its competitors Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Reliance Jio in testing 5G in rural India. The Chief Technology Officer of Bharti Airtel, Randeep Sekhon, said that Airtel partnered up with Ericsson to conduct rural India's first 5G trial. Sekhon said that 5G will be a revolutionary technology and with use cases such as Fixed Wireless Access (FWA), the telco will be able to deliver last-mile coverage, helping the economy of the country. The trial was conducted with the 5G radio provided by Ericsson. Airtel used spectrum in the 3500 MHz bands for the same.

Bharti Airtel, Ericsson Could Deliver 200 Mbps Speed on 3GPP Compliant 5G FWA Device

Bharti Airtel in partnership with Ericsson was able to deliver over 200 Mbps speed on the 3GPP compliant 5G FWA device. The highlight of the test was the distance of 10 km between the site and the device. This will ensure that the telco can help India with last-mile 5G coverage and users will be able to get high-speed broadband connectivity anywhere they are. With a 3GPP compliant 5G smartphone, Airtel's network could deliver a download speed of 100 Mbps at a distance of over 10 km from the site. Sekhon said that this speed will vary depending on the factors such as the number of devices accessing the networks and more. The positive thing for Bharti Airtel is that the telco has tested its 5G networks ahead of Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio. Reliance Jio is also working on conducting 5G trials on large scale in Mumbai and other parts of the country. But Jio hasn't tested its 5G networks in rural India. Sekhon said that Bharti Airtel wants to be at the forefront in India when it comes to 5G. Airtel is expected to test its networks even further for coming out with relevant use cases for 5G consumers in India. The telco has already shared how it will change the online mobile gaming scenario in India.

Telecom Operators Might Get Another Major Relief Soon

Posted: 04 Oct 2021 10:59 PM PDT

Telecom Operators Indian Telecom operators might get another major relief soon. The Indian government is currently looking for ways to settle ongoing legal cases with the telcos outside of the court. This will save everyone a lot of time and also help them in saving money. The next set of telecom reforms will focus on reducing the litigation burden from the telecom industry. For almost everything, the telcos and the government are arguing in court, which takes a lot of money, resources, and time. The only people who benefit from this are the lawyers, no one else. But now, that problem might be solved soon since a report from ET Telecom says that the government is looking for ways to settle the ongoing legal cases with the telcos outside of the court. Not only this, there's more.

Telecom Operators Might be Relieved of Paying Existing SUCs

The government is also working out how it can abolish the existing spectrum usage charges (SUCs). This will form part of the next set of telecom reforms. It is worth noting that the government has already removed the fees for the airwaves bought from the upcoming spectrum auctions. Ashwini Vaishnaw, telecom minister, had said that the government would do everything it could to reduce the burden from the ailing telecommunications sector. These steps and the ones that have already been taken prove that the government really wants to help the sector. It is worth noting that the details of the scheme are still under consideration, and nothing's been finalised yet. It is good to see the government stepping up and helping the telcos. The Telecom sector is one of the most crucial sectors to keep the economy running. Without internet and communications services, the world would come to a standstill, and the economy will face a very negative impact due to that. In terms of the number of court cases, the government and Vodafone Idea alone has 19 pending cases.

WhatsApp and Its Importance Cannot Be Ignored

Many people leverage the application daily to communicate with most of the people they know. This makes WhatsApp one of the most integral applications on any smartphone. But this is what happened yesterday, and it must have hurt a lot of people.

WhatsApp Was Down Yesterday Which Hurt People's Communication

Not just WhatsApp, but many other applications, including Facebook and Instagram, were down. It was a DNS issue as per Cloudflare. This meant billions of users who log into these applications on a daily couldn't for a few hours. Disruption in communication was a big deal for many who rely on these applications, especially WhatsApp, to talk with others. The downtime of WhatsApp revealed on Twitter how desperate people are towards the application. While there are other applications such as Signal and Telegram, WhatsApp enjoys special attention from internet users around the globe because of its brand and early mover advantage as well. In the coming years, the dependence of people on WhatsApp is going to increase further. The social media platform keeps on introducing new features to retain the attention of its customers. Hopefully, there's no other incident like this in the future. Not being able to communicate with other people must take its toll on the users as it can lead to anxiety and stress. This just proves just how important an application like WhatsApp is for the globe. Further, it also shows the power that Facebook commands with applications such as WhatsApp and Instagram under its belt. All of the applications are now back and running in full flow. The DNS issue should not return anytime soon.

Posted: 04 Oct 2021 09:15 PM PDT

Bharti Airtel Bharti Airtel promoters might have to invest money in the rights issue. This amount is out of the Rs 21,000 crores rights issue that the company's board has approved recently. Out of the Rs 11,730 crores, the promoters will need to pay 25% of the amount upfront. Bharti Airtel shareholders will receive one rights issue share for every 14 shares they already hold. The shares of the rights issue will be priced at Rs 535 a unit. The rights issue will open on October 5, 2021, and close on October 21, 2021. Bharti Airtel shares opened strong on Tuesday morning at Rs 684 and are now trading at Rs 693.15 at the time of writing.
