However, there is no word regarding a specific launch date for these upcoming flagship smartphones.

Samsung's 2022 Flagship Models

It is unlikely that Samsung might launch high-end smartphones alongside each other and at least a minimum gap of a month between these smartphones' releases is expected. Notably, the report cited that the upcoming smartphone in question – the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE's availability could be limited at launch. Also, it is said that some markets will receive the units of this Samsung smartphone in January next year while the rest of the markets might face a delay in its sales. Currently, there is a global chip shortage, which is expected to be a major reason for the delay of the Galaxy S21 FE's launch. A delay in the device could be good for Samsung itself as it will be able to secure more chips for the upcoming flagship models. Samsung might even host an Unpacked event for the Galaxy S22 series ahead of the MWC 2022 tech show, which is tipped to debut on February 28. However, there is no official confirmation regarding any of these details and we need to wait for Samsung to confirm the same.

Instagram Gets Videos Tab With IGTV and Feed Videos

Posted: 06 Oct 2021 05:50 AM PDT

Instagram Earlier this week, Facebook faced a sudden global outage wherein Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were down for a few hours. In the wake of this Suddenly, Facebook came up with an announcement regarding a significant change on Instagram. Going by the same, Instagram will merge the portrait style video format IGTV and videos on the feed into Instagram Videos. There will be a new Video Tab that will be added to the app. Soon, all the users can take a look at all types of videos on Instagram via the Video Tab.

Instagram Gets Video Tab

Of late, there appears to be a lot of emphasis on the video creators on Instagram. With this update of the social media platform, video previews on the Instagram feed will be 60 seconds long. Also, there will be new features and tools on the platform. However, the update does not bring any change to the way users upload videos on the platform. Users can trim videos before uploading them to Instagram or applying a filter. Also, there are options to add locations and tag people while uploading a new video on the platform. Users can cross-post the videos as stories or share them as direct messages as well. Videos from some creators will be eligible for ads and the preview time of the same is set for 15 seconds. As IGTV Videos are to be phased out, ads in videos will be dubbed In-Stream Ads. Video creators can monetise videos that are over 60 seconds long. Facebook appears to be experimenting with vertical videos that did not end up as intended. IGTV was initially launched in 2018 and was quite unique on social media. However, it did not work as Tiktok became popular and the Instagram feature missed out on a lot of features. Under the new Video Tab, Facebook is will retain both these types of videos, which is interesting. It is interesting that the app has transformed from being a photo-sharing platform to a video-sharing platform with several monetisation options and the highly popular Instagram Reels. We need to wait to see further changes that will be brought to Instagram.

Bharti Airtel Gearing for mmWave 5G Trials

Posted: 06 Oct 2021 02:41 AM PDT

Bharti Airtel Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest telecom operator, is gearing up for mmWave 5G trials. Randeep Sekhon, Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Bharti Airtel, said that mmWave bands would be included in the telco's next round of 5G trials. For the unaware, the mmWave 5G bands will be able to deliver the fastest 5G speeds to the users. The sub-6 GHz bands are good for coverage, but they can't offer the fastest speeds. But the mmWave bands will change the game and allow the world to see the true potential of 5G networks. According to an ET Telecom report, Sekhon has said that Airtel is just waiting for the equipment to arrive from its vendors for the mmWave 5G trials.

mmWave 5G Bands Price Not Yet Decided

It is worth noting that mmWave 5G bands' final price is still under consideration by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). The mmWave bands are expected to be the most expensive ones, and the sector regulator is still yet to come out with the final price for the concerned airwaves. Yesterday, Airtel had announced that it conducted rural India's first 5G trials. The telco had partnered with Ericsson to test the power of 5G in rural India. Airtel was able to deliver a download speed of 100 Mbps in a 3GPP compliant 5G smartphone and over 200 Mbps in a fixed wireless access (FWA) device, both located around 10 km away from the site. For the 5G test in rural India, Airtel had used the airwaves in the 3500 MHz bands. Bharti Airtel believes that once the 5G spectrum auctions are done, India should be able to see live 5G networks within two quarters. Further, Airtel said that post one year of the auction, a large part of India might be covered by 5G. However, how fast the 5G networks will go live in India will depend on the TRAI as the final pricing of the spectrum from the regulator is still awaited.

Reliance Jio Networks Down in India

Posted: 06 Oct 2021 12:19 AM PDT

Reliance Jio Reliance Jio's network is currently down in many parts of India. The telco has not issued a statement as of yet, so we don't know the exact reason behind it. But users from many parts of the country have complained on Twitter that they cannot make calls and some cannot even use data. Further, the exact regions this issue has come up in is also unclear at the moment. Jio's customer care team has nothing to say about this yet. Downdetector suggests that over 4,000 people have already complained about the issues that Jio's network has had since the morning.

Reliance Jio's Networks Go Down After WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook

A couple of days back, WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook were down which caused panic amongst many people. But at least they were still able to make calls. People who are just on Jio's networks and don't have a secondary SIM to make calls with or use data from are now stuck. People from Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh are complaining about the network outage. The Jio SIM is not showing any network issues. I live in Chattisgarh and the signal strength is looking good. Even the 'VoLTE' is working. But for some reason, the calls are not connecting. The data seems to be working fine now. But for many users, even the data is not working and if they are not connected to the Wi-Fi networks, they have no other immediate medium to contact someone else if they don't have a secondary SIM of Airtel or Vi. As per Downdetector, the network issues started coming in around 9 AM and reached the peak around 12 PM. Even people in Jabalpur and Jaipur are having issues with the telco's networks. It feels like the issue has affected users living across the country. It will be worth waiting for Jio's statement on the issue.

Vodafone Idea, Airtel to Benefit a Lot With Govts Decision

Posted: 05 Oct 2021 11:14 PM PDT

Vodafone Idea Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel can benefit a lot from the government's decision on the withdrawal of a one-time spectrum charge (OTSC). The private operators might have to pay Rs 2,000 crore each or something even lesser than that. The government is trying to reduce litigation from the sector and the withdrawal of appeal against a telecom tribunal verdict would mean that it is doing just that. Because of the continuous litigation, the only people who are benefitting are the lawyers. Both Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel were asked to pay thousands of crores as OTSC by the government.

Telcos Shouldn't be Forced to Pay OTSC

The government should really not ask the telcos to pay OTSC right now. This would render the effect of the relief package somewhat useless in the very short term. Vi's cash flow situation is really bad and it can't just pay thousands of crores worth of OTSC to the government comfortably. But as per an ET Telecom report, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has currently said that it needs three more weeks for consultations on the issue. Going to court with this issue would mean that the government is imposing litigation in the sector again. But if the DoT withdraws the appeal, it will mean that it is really backing the sector in a complete sense and wants to reduce the litigation. At every turn in the telecom sector, the telcos and the government don't agree on something and then go to court to resolve it. This might not be the best way to enhance the performance and stability in the sector. Understanding that; the government might just end up withdrawing its appeal and that would mean that the telcos will have to pay very little OTSC. The relief package has given a lifeline to Vodafone Idea, but OTSC might reduce its effects if the government stays persistent on recovering that amount from the telcos.

Telegram Added 70 Million Users When WhatsApp Went Down

Posted: 05 Oct 2021 09:12 PM PDT

Telegram What became a disaster for Facebook when its applications, including WhatsApp and Instagram, went down, it became a boon for Telegram. While Telegram is not as big as WhatsApp, there's no other app that can give competition to WhatsApp the way Telegram does. One of the many reasons why WhatsApp wins is because of clean experience and early mover advantage. But Telegram has already achieved the milestone of a billion downloads, so clearly, it is not a small application. According to a Reuters report, the outage of WhatsApp that came on Monday resulted in a positive thing for rival Telegram. Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, on Tuesday, said that Telegram added over 70 million new users after WhatsApp went down.

Daily Growth Rate of Telegram Increased By Huge Magnitude

Telegram's daily growth rate increased by a huge magnitude as WhatsApp went down. Adding over 70 million users in a day is no joke. Clearly, people who wanted to text others saw Telegram as the next best option. But this won't happen again and again for Telegram. WhatsApp is back up now, and it will take yet another outage of the application for Telegram to see this many users coming to its platform in a single day. In fact, as per Durov, so many people were trying to download Telegram in America at the same time that they must have experienced slow speeds. WhatsApp going down was a big thing. It didn't just stop people from communicating with their loved ones, but it also affected other sectors of the economy. People couldn't trade stocks and cryptocurrencies anymore. While there were other platforms available, because WhatsApp is the predominantly used application around the globe, it resulted in a big problem for everyone. Thus, it might be handy to keep another social media platform handy on your smartphones, such as Telegram or Signal, just in case there's another such outage of WhatsApp.

BSNL Offers Multiple 200 Mbps Broadband Plans, Which is Better?

Posted: 05 Oct 2021 06:38 PM PDT

BSNL 200 Mbps broadband plans Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is one of the major Internet service providers (ISPs) in India. The telco has time and again proved that it is better than Jio and Airtel in providing broadband services by being present in areas where no other ISP is present. BSNL offers users multiple 200 Mbps broadband plans. These plans aren't essentially too different from each other, but the little unique things about each of them can make the whole difference when you are trying to decide which plan you should go with. Here's everything you should know about this.

BSNL 200 Mbps Broadband Plans

BSNL offers two 200 Mbps broadband plans to the users. One plan is called 'Fibre Premium' while the other plan is called 'Fibre Premium Plus'. Both the plans offer the same amount of fair-usage-policy (FUP) data to the users. The more affordable plan out of the two is 'Fibre Premium' and it costs Rs 999 per month. This plan offers 3.3TB or 3,300GB monthly data to the users. Post consumption of the FUP data, the internet speed drops to 2 Mbps for the users. Users also get a free Disney+ Hotstar Premium over-the-top (OTT) benefit. There is an unlimited voice calling benefit (landline connection) included as well. Secondly, the 'Fibre Premium Plus' plan costs Rs 1,277 per month. With this plan as well users get 3.3TB of monthly data. But this plan offers 15 Mbps of speed once the FUP data is consumed. Despite being more expensive, this plan doesn't offer any OTT benefits but comes with a free fixed voice calling connection. Out of the two plans, it is clearly visible that the Rs 999 plan is a much better option for maximum users. There would be hardly any average consumer/consumers who manage to exhaust 3.3TB of data offered with the broadband connection, especially when the 4G data is so cheap as well. Further, the Rs 999 broadband plans from other operators also offer speeds around 200 Mbps. In that sense, the Rs 999 broadband plan from BSNL makes a lot more sense than the Rs 1,277 plan. The only advantage that the Rs 1,277 broadband plan has is the post FUP data speed. There's no other possible reason why any rational consumer would opt for the Rs 1,277 plan ignoring the Rs 999 plan. The 200 Mbps broadband plans usually come with over-the-top (OTT) benefits and unlimited data. In that sense, BSNL's 200 Mbps plan makes for an ideal option if you are looking for such a plan.
