Tata Sky Broadband vs BSNL Bharat Fibre 200 Mbps Plan Posted: 11 Nov 2021 11:17 AM PST The competition in India among all the Internet Service Providers (ISPs) has been continuously rising. The tough competition compels the providers to come up with strong tariff plans to satisfy their users. The days are gone when users used to get pleased with comparatively low speed of internet and low amount of Fair Usage Policy (FUP). But the introduction of private ISPs changed the game in the domestic market. Users now demand connections with high internet speed with at least 100 Mbps and a much higher amount of FUP data. Moreover, the introduction of 200 Mbps tariff plans has witnessed a huge increase in demand for the users. The service providers have been coming up with attractive tariff plans offering an internet speed of 200 Mbps. Tata Sky Broadband and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Bharat Fibre both provide 200 Mbps plans and here are the pros and cons of both the ISPs. BSNL Bharat Fibre 200 Mbps PlansThe government-owned telecommunications company BSNL under Bharat Fibre Broadband provides an exciting option for its users who want to opt for 200 Mbps of internet speed. Customers can get Fibre Premium which also comes with a free subscription to an Over-The-Top (OTT) platform. The one-month tariff plan costs Rs 999 and offers FUP data of 3.3TB or 3300GB per month. Users get unlimited data download and 2 Mbps of speed after they have utilised 3,300GB of data. The 200 Mbps plan for six-month costs Rs 7,049 and Rs 13,049 for a 12-month subscription. It is to be kept in mind that all these packs are exclusive of GST and GST would be charged when users purchase these packs. The plan includes a free of cost Disney Hotstar Premium Pack.Tata Sky Broadband 200 Mbps PlansIndia's one of the most prominent service provider Tata Sky Broadband also offers exciting plans for its users who want access up to 200 Mbps of internet speed. Tata Sky Broadband uses the Tata Sky fibernet technology to provide faster and enhanced internet. The one-month plan of Tata Sky broadband with 200 Mbps plan costs Rs 1,150 to users. The FUP data provided by Tata Sky is the same as Bharat Fibre Broadband which is 3.3TB or 3300GB per month. However, Tata Sky does not offer any OTT subscriptions on availing its tariff plans. Users do get access to free installation by an expert and a dual-band free router. The other offers for the 200 Mbps plan include Rs 3,000 for 3 months, Rs 5,550 for six months and Rs 10,200 for a year. The fibrenet technology by Tata Sky ensures a seamless and consistent experience using its end to end connectivity with fibre optics.
TRAI to Implement ‘New Tariff Regime’ 2.0 from April 1, 2022 Posted: 11 Nov 2021 07:12 AM PST The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has come up with the deadline to implement the New Tariff Order (NTO) 2.0 from December 1, 2021, to April 1, 2022. The decision of TRAI will provide a major respite to the distribution platform operators (DPOs) and broadcasters. Notably, TRAI has come up with a new implementation plan for NTO in order to ease the migration of subscribers to the new regime. The new TRAI implementation plan indicates that the DPOs will have to ensure that they offer services to subscribers as per the NTO 2.0 norms. This will come into effect from April 1, 2022. New TRAI ImplementationTRAI has extended the deadline based on the request it received from several service providers, DTH operators, broadcasters, MSOs and DPOs. The authority made the decision after discussing with same with stakeholders in order to understand the time needed for the smooth migration process of subscribers to the new order. To a letter that TRAI has sent to the stakeholders, it stated that due to the complexities and magnitude of the involved processes and keeping the past experiences in mind, it will be prudent that enough time should be offered for the migration of subscribers to New Regulatory Framework 2020 to avoid the inconvenience. Ample time for exercising an informed choice is the basic premise of the New Regulatory Framework 2020 that will ensure easy implementation of the New Regulatory Framework, stated the authority. Given that the new TRAI pricing regime that has been introduced will come into effect from April 1, 2022, the DPOs will be required to seek permission to provide new bouquet subscriptions from the consumers. Also, the DPOs will have to get permission from February 1, 2022, to March 31, 2022, which is before the new pricing regime’s arrival. Having said that, we can get further details regarding the new pricing strategy from TRAI for the seamless migration of broadcast subscribers in the coming weeks or months.

The officially hiked prices are in effect from today that is November 11, 2021, and users can see the same on Amazon and Xiaomi's official websites. The reason behind the price hike is being speculated as an ongoing global semiconductor issue that is adversely affecting MediaTek and other chipmakers. MediaTek Helio G25 chipset is used to power both Redmi 9A and Redmi 9A Sport. The details related to the hiked prices of the two handsets are discussed below. The Hiked Prices of the HandsetsBoth Redmi 9A and Redmi 9A Sport have two variants that are available in the market. | Select Telecom Vendors Receive Approval From NCSC Posted: 11 Nov 2021 03:55 AM PST The European telecom vendors Nokia and Ericsson, UK-based Cisco and Indian vendor Tejas are among the first wave of telecom equipment vendors that bagged the trusted sources approval. The National Cyber Security Coordinator (NCSC) provided its approval to the above-mentioned vendors. On the other hand, Chinese vendors ZTE and Huawei are yet to complete their documentation process in order to be eligible for the NCSC approval. NCSC Approval For Trusted SourcesRecently, Tejas Networks was acquired by Tata Sons' Panatone Finvest, which is the only domestic telecom equipment vendor that had received the approval. French identity-related security services provider IDEMIA, an industrial IoT solutions provider Proscend, Dori Software and PC Solutions have already received the trusted sources approval from the NCSC, which is the designated authority. However, the telecom operators in India are not able to place purchase orders even with the vendors who received the trusted product approval. Regarding this, a person familiar with the matter told ET Telecom that this is an initial step in the whole process. For now, it does not mean much as the companies that received the trusted sources approval can get their equipment rejected in cases of the authority's dissatisfaction. The first set of trusted products could arrive between the end of this month or early in December. Lt General (retd) Rajesh Pant, the National Cyber Security coordinator stated that the National Security Committee on Telecom is meeting each month to decide on the approval of both trusted Sources and trusted Products. The details of these will be informed to the telecom operators who submitted their requirements on their portal. The approval process debuted on October 21 and they are working as per the Cabinet's decision. From another source, it has been revealed that the Chinese equipment maker Huawei is yet to complete the process and is all set to meet the obligations of the NCSC to get the approval of trusted sources. On the other hand, ZTE had completed the process and is awaiting the authority's approval. Earlier Pant stated that Huawei and ZTE were not banned from taking part in the process but they will need to undergo the scrutiny as the other vendors. It was also stated by a European vendor's senior executive that there are increased chances for the component or product to be made in China, which might cancel the approval for these vendors. |
Samsung Galaxy S22 Series Might Sport Snapdragon SoCs in Asian, African Markets Posted: 11 Nov 2021 03:50 AM PST ![]() The Speculations Around the Processor for Galaxy S22 SeriesThe speculations were being built around Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S22 series that the device may not feature an Exynos processor at all and Samsung may go for the processor from Qualcomm instead which would be Snapdragon 898. But these speculations were dismissed recently as the sources confirmed that the handset would come with an Exynos version as well for certain parts of the world. The above sources sit in line with one of the Galaxy Club's reports. According to their report, countries from Africa and Asia can expect to see Snapdragon 898 chips with Samsung Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 ultra for the first time. The US will continue to receive the same processor as well. The Exynos chips would be used in the handsets launched in Korea and the rest of the globe. Since the announcement suggests that Asian countries could witness Snapdragon 898, there's a probability that the same could be introduced in India as well. The introduction of Qualcomm processors on such a large scale comes as good news for those who are fans of the processor. The Snapdragon processors have always been better than the Exynos chip variants when it comes to overall performance, battery life, or thermal control. The one probable downside for the Snapdragon users could be that Exynos 2200 is expected to integrate with AMD GPU which will make it possible for the processor to feature raytracing support for the first time ever. Although it is still difficult to speculate whether Exynos 2200 could give better performance than its competitor Snapdragon, the former is bound to get a massive upgrade from its previous version with Mali GPUs.

Tikona Broadband Asks for Strange Subscription Charges Posted: 11 Nov 2021 01:28 AM PST Tikona Broadband is one of the well-known internet service providers (ISPs) in India. It offers broadband internet services in over 25 major cities of the country including Raipur, Agra, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Delhi, Hyderabad, Indore, Jabalpur, and more. The company offers standard plans to users across different cities. If you are planning on purchasing a broadband connection from Tikona, understand that there is a huge subscription charge that is non-refundable that you will have to pay to the company. Tikona Broadband Subscription Charges for Different PlansFirst of all, it is worth noting that the company offers multiple 30 Mbps, 40 Mbps, 60 Mbps, 100 Mbps, 150 Mbps, and 200 Mbps speed internet broadband plans in different cities of the country. We will just look at two plans for now – the 30 Mbps plan which costs Rs 399 per month while the 40 Mbps plan which costs Rs 499 per month. This is mostly in line with the pricing that the company's competitors have. Hoverer, there's an additional 'subscription charge' that users have to pay when they purchase a connection with a new plan. Note that this is not even the installation charge if you are thinking of it. So just to understand this more clearly, if you purchase the base 30 Mbps plan from the company for 3 months, you will have to pay Rs 399 for each month, then on top an installation charge of Rs 500 and a subscription charge of Rs 2002 if it is a new connection. It is not just the base or entry-level plans, but all of the plans from the company come with subscription charges which is quite strange. In fact, with the higher-end broadband plans from the company, the subscription charges keep rising. It is like if you want to purchase the company's services, you will have to pay separately just for subscribing. Looking at this, it is better to go for broadband plans from major ISPs such as Airtel Xstream Fiber, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), JioFiber, Excitel, ACT, and more.

Excitel, Airtel, Tata Sky Broadband on Top of Netflix ISP Index Posted: 10 Nov 2021 11:50 PM PST If you are a Netflix fan or a fan of streaming content from any other over-the-top (OTT) platform, you need a solid broadband connection for a seamless viewing experience. Netflix measures the primetime performance of its application on an Internet Service Provider's (ISP) network and then lists it on the speed hierarchy basis. For the month of October 2021, Netflix has mentioned that nine ISPs of India have made it to the top category providing the fastest broadband speeds in India. The higher the speed, the better the picture quality and a quicker start time. Companies such as Excitel, Airtel Xstream Fiber, Tata Sky Broadband, Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT) have made it to the top of the list for October 2021. Netflix ISP Index for India – October 2021The ISPs that are in the top rank have all provided an average speed of 3.6 Mbps. These companies include – 7 Star Digital, Airtel, Alliance Broadband, ACT, D-VoiS, Excitel Broadband, Hathway, Jio Giga Fiber, Tata Sky Broadband. If you are thinking of getting a fiber broadband connection in India, the above-mentioned names are your best bet if you love streaming content online. In the second rank were five companies, including One Broadband, GTPL, Spectra, Syscon Infoway, You Broadband, providing an average speed of 3.4 Mbps. At the third position were Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Tikona providing 3.2 Mbps average speed. Lastly, at the fourth rank was Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL), providing an average download speed of 2.8 Mbps. Netflix keeps updating the performance of the ISPs in India every month. From the top rank, companies such as Excitel, ACT, Tata Sky Broadband, Airtel, and Jio have already built a strong and nationwide brand for themselves. It is surprising to see BSNL, the king of broadband services in India, lagging behind in the Netflix ISP Speed Index for October 2021.
Airtel, Vi OTSC Case Facing Internal Issues Posted: 10 Nov 2021 10:13 PM PST Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) were asked to pay Rs 40,000 crore as the one-time spectrum charge (OTSC) by the Department of Telecommunications. Because of the disputes between the telcos and the government, the case had reached the Supreme Court (SC). However, the government then showed the motive of settling the issue out of the court. To that extent, the SC asked the DoT to come up with fair reasons for withdrawing the case. The hearing is all for November 17, 2021. But, there are internal issues in the telecom department over the issue. According to an ET Telecom report, there are some DoT officials who believe that if the case had gone to the court after taking the legal opinion from the Attorney General (AG), is it right to settle it out of court now? Indian Government Wants to Reduce Telecom Sector's Burden of LitigationThe Indian government is sure of what it wants to do now, and that is to help the telecom sector. One of the many ways sought by the GoI (Government of India) was to reduce the litigation in the sector. At almost every turn, there are disputes between the GoI and the telcos, which then end up going to court. This only helps the pockets of the lawyers and doesn't do good for the sector in any manner. Thus, following the same intent, the DoT had taken the legal opinion on the matter in October, which said that it could settle cases such as OTSC out of the court. But it won't be as simple as this. The amounts will be affected if the case is taken out of the court, and it will become necessary for the DoT to assess what bearing out-of-court settlements will have on the final amount as some telcos have already paid some OTSC in the past.

Starlink and OneWeb Have Clearly Different Strategies for India Posted: 10 Nov 2021 05:39 PM PST Two of the big names that are going to be a part of India's satellite communications (satcom) industry are SpaceX owned Starlink and Bharti owned OneWeb. Both the satcom companies are gearing for global coverage. While the arrival of both the companies is exciting for the satcom fans in India, there are a few things that are very noticeable from all the developments so far. With respect to India, Starlink and OneWeb both have very different ways to look at business. The nature of their services will be the same, but their strategy will be completely different. It is actually a great way to go about this. No two companies in the same business should follow the same strategy, because it prohibits innovation to a certain extent. OneWeb Looks Like a B2B Play So FarOneWeb looks like a company that will love to play in the B2B or Business to Business segment. One thing that's great about B2B companies is that they can make large deals. Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, has said in the past that OneWeb will not look to compete with the terrestrial network provides. Instead, the company will partner with telecom operators across the globe and help them in expanding their coverage area. The same strategy will be applied by the company in India. It is very likely that OneWeb's Indian subsidiary will partner with Bharti Airtel and help the company in competing with Jio when it comes to providing better 4G coverage. Now, this is not to say that OneWeb would completely ignore the B2C or Business to Consumer space. But generally in a business such as satellite broadband services, where the cost of service is too high and the alternatives are easily available, it doesn't attract the customers much. Especially in the Indian market, where people spend money very carefully, the B2B approach from OneWeb looks like a good strategy to follow.Starlink Looks Like a B2C Play So FarStarlink has been announcing that in India, it will be availing 100 free connections which will include 20 schools in Delhi and the remaining 80 in schools in a rural district near the Capital. The company is currently working with NITI Aayog to identify three rural districts from each zone including the North, South, West, and East for offering free internet services. Starlink is also selling its pre-booking for $99 or Rs 7,500 approximately in India and the company has already received multiple thousand orders from the country. Starlink has said that it is open to forming partnerships with other companies including Vodafone Idea and Reliance Jio, but there's no saying that something of this sort will definitely happen with Starlink. Starlink looks a lot more focused on providing connectivity in rural and remote areas of the country, but with the B2C approach. However, it is still too early to say how each company is operating and will operate in the future. But, there's no denying that currently, B2B looks like the right model for the satellite broadband companies to approach.
