| Reliance Jio Multi or Advance Recharge Terms and Conditions Posted: 28 Nov 2021 08:03 PM PST Reliance Jio, India's number one telecom operator, on November 28, announced prepaid tariff hikes. The telco said that it would be raising the tariffs of its select prepaid plans from December 1, 2021. However, customers have two days to recharge with the lower prepaid tariffs in advance to save money. Reliance Jio arguably offers the best multi recharge or advance recharge facility to the users. Reliance Jio Multi Recharge, How to Do and What You Should KnowFirst of all, note that there's no limit to how many advance or multi recharges you can do with Jio's prepaid plans. The telco in its website has mentioned that users can make unlimited advance recharges. Not just that, but Jio will allow users to recharge with any plan they want to recharge with. So, for example, if a user is in the Rs 555 plan currently, which offers 84 days of service validity along with 1.5GB daily data, 100 SMS/day, and unlimited voice calling, and his/her plan is ending on December 10, then that user can make a recharge with the Rs 555 plan or any other unlimited plan of his/her choice. Users can recharge in advance with all the unlimited data prepaid plans available on the website of telco. They can first recharge with the Rs 555 plan in advance, then maybe switch it up to the Rs 598 plan, which offers entirely different benefits, then again recharge in advance with the third plan of Rs 249, and so on. All the plans that the user has recharged with in advance will be available on the telco's mobile app as queued. Users can advance recharge for up to ten years, fifty years in advance; there's no stopping them. But one shouldn't go with that kind of move. It would be a wise thing to recharge with a yearly plan right now if anyone can because that will save users a lot of money right away. |

| Reliance Jio Announces Prepaid Tariff Hike After Airtel, Vi Posted: 28 Nov 2021 06:00 AM PST Reliance Jio has also announced a prepaid tariff hike after similar announcements from Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi). The telco has, however, kept the prepaid plans the cheapest in the industry, which will help in growing subscriber market share further. This tariff hike will help Reliance Jio in increasing its average revenue per user (ARPU) figure substantially. Not all the plans have received a hike, but most of the popular ones have. Reliance Jio Prepaid Plans With Increased Tariffs from December 1, 2021 Reliance Jio will increase the tariffs of its prepaid plans from December 1, 2021. | TRAI Should Look at Expensive Base SMS Plans of Vi: Telecom Watchdog Posted: 28 Nov 2021 04:46 AM PST Telecom Watchdog, a non-profit organisation (NGO), said that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) must look at the base prepaid tariffs that offer SMS benefits to consumers. The NGO wrote a letter to the regulator calling out the prepaid tariff hikes from Vodafone Idea (Vi), resulting in the base prepaid tariff with SMS benefit becoming the Rs 179 plan. Telecom Watchdog said that this tariff was very high compared to the competition. Anil Kumar, Founder, Telecom Watchdog, confirmed to TelecomTalk about the letter being sent to the regulator regarding the issue. Vodafone Idea had implemented a tariff hike on November 25, 2021. Telecom Watchdog Looks After Consumer Interests, Asks Why Should SMS Plans be So ExpensiveVodafone Idea (Vi) is offering its prepaid plan with SMS benefits starting at Rs 179. Kumar said that due to such an expensive SMS plan, people are losing out on the ability to send port-out SMSes. For porting out, an SMS needs to be sent to TRAI's central number – 1900. But people who can only afford the base plan of Vi, which comes for Rs 99, can't do the port out activity since they don't have SMS benefits with their plan. In comparison, Airtel is offering its SMS plan for the most affordable rate compared to Jio and Vi (after tariff hikes). Kumar said since SMSes doesn't cost this high, what is the need to keep the price of SMS plans so high? According to Kumar, this is a simple move from the telco to restrict users from porting out to other networks. This is a serious issue that needs to be addressed by TRAI. This is a question of consumer interest. It is not just that the SMS plans have become way too expensive for a large number of Indians, but also that is the mechanism in place for porting out the right one? TRAI needs to bring in a better mechanism that allows users to comfortably port out to their choice of the network without worrying about the costs involved. |
| Starlink India Not Allowed to Sell Connections Without License Posted: 27 Nov 2021 11:48 PM PST Starlink India is not allowed to sell pre-bookings anymore. The company had started selling pre-bookings for $99 or approximately Rs 7500 last year. SpaceX owned Starlink needs to get regulatory approvals and license to sell services in India before it can sell pre-bookings. According to an ET Telecom report, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked the company to comply with the Indian regulatory framework and stop taking new pre-bookings with immediate effect. Starlink Still Taking Pre-Bookings Despite DoT WarningStarlink's website is still selling pre-bookings in India despite the warning from the DoT. The company's website still says that services in India will start in 2022 and that the availability is subject to regulatory approval. DoT has already asked the customers in India not to buy services from the company before it is issued a license for the same. This is a big blow to Elon Musk's plans for selling satellite broadband services in India. The key challenge for Starlink in India, along with every other nation around the globe, will be to acquire regulatory approvals for services. It will involve a lot of costs and time. There is no uniform license to offer services across the globe. Further, there's no uniform way either to get necessary approvals. Every country/region has a set of rules that Starlink will have to adhere to before it can start selling commercial products/services. It is worth noting that Starlink has already sold more than 5,000 pre-bookings in India. The company had issued an apology email a few days back to people who had bought the pre-booking for delaying the delivery of Starlink. Sanjay Bhargava, India head for Starlink, had already shared on his LinkedIn that the company is hiring. Starlink India was hiring for two particular job posts, and Bhargava said that there would be more jobs available once the company gets the necessary regulatory approvals. |
