Apple iPad Pro, MacBook Pro to Use OLED Displays from Samsung, LG Posted: 06 Nov 2021 08:01 AM PDT Apple is slated to unveil the next-generation iPad Pro and MacBook Pro models featuring double-stack OLED display panels. These display panels feature a couple of layers of light-emitting diodes and achieve twice the brightness than the usual Retina display panels. Furthermore, the report states that the Cupertino tech giant is in talks with display manufacturers such as LG and Samsung to provide OLED display panels to its large-screen devices. Upcoming Apple iPad Pro ModelsA recent report by The Elec notes that there will be two upcoming iPad Pro models with 11-inch and 12.9-inch models that could be the first Apple devices to ship with OLED displays. Also, these upcoming models could arrive with OLED panels sometime in late 2023 or early 2034. The current issue is that the OLED display tech is quite expensive and the manufacturing process is not completely developed. As per the sources that are familiar with the development, the first units could take some time prior to their launch in a couple of two years. It makes sense for the company to debut the OLED production with the iPad Pro series as the mini-LED display panel. The company expanded its portfolio of devices that come with Liquid Retina XDR display back in October post the unveiling of the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro units. As the South Korean tech giant is the leading manufacturer of OLED display panels, Apple has to turn towards Samsung for the same. Reportedly, it is also in discussions with LG to secure OLED panels for MacBook. Also, the new OLED display technology could double the production cost. Apple is likely to try to keep the cost down by making use of an oxide TFT rather than the usual TFT. The thin-film-transistor (TFT) acts as a switches to the pixels that are on the display. Furthermore, there are other cutting-edge display technologies such as LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) that are under consideration but these are on the expensive side of the scale. Currently, the iPhone 13 Pro models use the LTPO TFT OLED panels that are supplied by Samsung. Also, LG provides Apple with these panels and these are used on the Apple Watch. LG can also manufacture the panels for future iPads and MacBooks as well but the production capacity is quite low. While this is yet to be confirmed, it will be interesting to see whether both LG and Samsung invest in the requirements of Apple.

Apple Fixes Bug That Bricks Macs With macOS Monterey And T2 Security Chip Posted: 06 Nov 2021 01:02 AM PDT The Cupertino tech giant Apple released the macOS Monterey recently. Since then, several Apple users who have installed the update complained that it bricked their computers. However, there was no clarity regarding what caused the issue to date, claimed Rene Ritchie. Now, a report by 9to5Mac states that he has received the statement from Apple citing that the issue was due to the firmware of the T2 security chip. Apple macOS Monterey Bug FixedAs per the report, they have identified and resolved an issue with the firmware on the Apple T2 security chip, which prevented a small number of users from booting their Mac after updating macOS. Now, the updated firmware is included with the existing macOS updates. Users who are impacted by the issue can contact Apple Support for assistance. For now, there are no specifics regarding the affected models, possible configurations and settings that could be vulnerable to the issue, or the meagre number of users who are being affected. A report by MacRumors claims that to have found the tweets from as many as nine users of MacBook, iMac and MacBook Pro devices who claim that their devices failed to boot following the update to macOS Monterey. In case of issues related to the latest update to this OS, users of Apple devices can reach the official Apple Support or assistance. The company notes that the updated firmware is meant to eliminate the issue that was included in the existing macOS updates. Some update trackers noted a revamped version of the BridgeOS 6.0 software running on the T2 security chip to be rolled out today. Having said that the fix is coming soon, this should not be a major issue on any of these Apple devices with the rollout of the update. We need to wait for all users to get this update to know more about the same.
Indian Telecom Industry Now a Favourable Ground for Outside Investors Posted: 05 Nov 2021 10:38 PM PDT The Indian Telecom industry will now become a favourable ground for outside investors. In the last couple of weeks, the Indian government has announced a slew of reforms that are going to boost the telecom sector. The outside investors were worried to step into the Indian telecom sector because of low tariffs resulting in a low average revenue per user (ARPU), high statutory dues for every operator aside from Jio, and a lot of legal troubles. But a lot of these issues have been addressed now. The government has allowed foreign direct investment (FDI) under the automatic route with a certain condition for the neighbours being only allowed to invest under the government route. Government Has Reduced Statutory Dues SignificantlyThe Indian government has already announced that the Bank Guarantees (BGs) will be reduced for the operators. Further, the definition of the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues has been changed to exclude the non-telecom revenues. The government has also removed spectrum usage charges (SUC) for future spectrum auctions. The operators have also been provided with the option of a payment moratorium for spectrum and AGR dues. Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) have accepted it as well, which will boost their cash flow in the near to medium term. Further, the government is working to reduce litigation from the sector. This will also save the telcos a lot of money. On top of all this, a tariff hike is expected in the near future that can increase the ARPU of the telcos. All of this marks India as a favourable ground for outside investors who want to invest in the telecom sector. With 5G on the way, the revenues of the telecom sector, especially the enterprise revenues, are expected to grow. The telcos will require a lot of capital to invest in 5G spectrum and related technologies. This is the right time for the outside investors to jump on the telecom sector's 5G train.

Jio or Airtel, Whose 4G Smartphone Offer is Better? Posted: 05 Nov 2021 06:32 PM PDT Both Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are trying to make India a 4G only nation by rolling out new smartphone offers. Airtel came with its smartphone offer in October, while Jio announced the JioPhone Next a few days later. Analysts have already commented on the pricing of the JioPhone Next and have called it non-disruptive. Many might be confused between the JioPhone Next and the Airtel smartphone offer. Here's a short analysis of which company's 4G phone offer is better for you. Reliance Jio's JioPhone Next OfferThe JioPhone Next has been launched for a price of Rs 6,499 in India. Jio has released the smartphone at an unbelievably high price point. People expected it to be more affordable. Further, if you are going with the EMI option, you will have to pay Rs 1,999 upfront and, on top of that, a processing fee of Rs 501. Further, the EMI options will make you pay large sums of money for a pretty basic Android device. Note that I haven't reviewed the JioPhone Next and since it is being promoted by the company for its software optimisation, remember that I am here only talking about the price and not the device's features. The EMI schemes also come with data and voice calling benefits. If you want to know about the EMI schemes and the complete JioPhone Next offer, and the device's features, click here.Bharti Airtel Smartphone OfferBharti Airtel's smartphone offer is pretty simple. Purchase an Android device of up to Rs 12,000 and get a cashback of Rs 6,000. However, users will have to continuously keep recharging with the Rs 249 plan or more for 36 months or two years to be eligible for the cashback. There is a list of select smartphones that are available under the offer. But the good thing is, you can choose from multiple brands and more than 100 devices. Gopal Vittal, CEO of Bharti Airtel, has already said that Airtel's cashback offer is getting a lot of interest from the users. If you want to know the complete details about the Airtel smartphone offer, click here.Which Offer is Better? So if you are thinking about which one is a better offer, here are some pointers. You will have to spend upwards of Rs 8,000 on any EMI scheme of the JioPhone Next. One EMI plan even asks the users to pay more than Rs 15,000. At this price point, even though the consumer is getting data and voice calling services, it just becomes too expensive. Airtel's smartphone offer, on the other hand, keeps the purchasing power in the hands of the customers themselves. Customers can go for a device of their choice amongst hundreds of devices and then also get a cashback of Rs 6,000. Even here, customers will have to pay for the mobile recharges, and that too quite a hefty sum. But the good thing is, most of it will come back in the form of cashbacks. So if the JioPhone Next isn't very well optimised when it comes to software, there's really no solid case that the smartphone makes for itself. It would be better to go for the JioPhone Next in one go rather than purchasing its EMI plans. On a regular day, Airtel's 4G smartphone offer looks better.
