The news comes in as OnePlus's upcoming smartphone and True Wireless Stereo (TWS) earbuds now have their respective support pages on the company's Indian website. OnePlus 9RT has been listed under the 'phone' category whereas the OnePlus Buds Z2 have been mentioned under 'accessories.' Earlier both of these devices were launched in China and it is to be noted that the OnePlus 9RT will launch in India as OnePlus RT. According to a report from 91mobiles, the OnePlus RT and OnePlus Buds Z2 were spotted on the company's Indian website. However, only the support page for the TWS earbuds is openable as of now and for the smartphone only a listing of its support page is available. | Oppo Find X4 Might Feature MediaTek Dimensity 9000 Posted: 10 Dec 2021 06:23 AM PST
It is no hidden secret that Oppo Find X4 is in the works and the Chinese smartphone giant might be very soon launching the device. Although no official comment has been made on the device, recent rumours have emerged providing details on the price and specifications of the smartphone. In an earlier report last month, it was revealed that Oppo Find X4 can be launched as a successor to the Oppo Find X3 which was launched this year in various countries across the globe excluding India. The previous report didn't provide much information on the device but recent leaks give a lot of information on the handset, from what's under the hood to the camera specs. Rumoured Specifications of Oppo Find X4According to the speculation, the upcoming handset from Oppo will come with a display featuring a 6.78 QHD+ (1,440×3,216 pixels) LTPO E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Talking about the processor, the handset is expected to feature MediaTek's latest MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset which might be paired up with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The rumours suggest that for the camera module of the device, Oppo Find X4 will have a triple rear camera setup that will consist of two 50MP sensors along with a 13MP camera. The front of the device could feature a 32MP selfie shooter. The device is said to be backed by a 5000mAH battery. The earlier reports speculated that the device might come featuring 125W fast wired charging technology which was announced by Oppo last year but since then there hasn't been a device featuring the technology. However, the recent rumours are contrary to these speculations as it is tipped that the handset will come featuring 80W fast wired charging and 50W AirVOOC wireless charging. Price of Oppo Find X4The upcoming handset is expected to come in two storage variants and hence two differently priced models. The first variant is expected to have 8GB RAM with 256GB of internal storage and could be priced at CNY 4,499 which amounts to somewhere around Rs 53,500. The other variant of the smartphone will feature 12GB RAM along with 512GB internal storage and could be priced at CNY 5,499 which is roughly around Rs 65,400. |

| Samsung Might Bring Back “Note” Device With the S22 Series Posted: 10 Dec 2021 02:15 AM PST
Various leaks and information about the upcoming flagship from Samsung – Galaxy S22 series have surfaced in the past few months. While the device is expected to launch in February of next year, it was reported earlier that the series would include three new smartphones – Samsung Galaxy S22, Samsung Galaxy S22+ and Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra. However, in a recent leak, it has been revealed that the most high-end device of the series, which was being called Galaxy S22 Ultra, could now be dubbed as Samsung Galaxy S22 Note. The Reason for Bringing Back the Note DeviceIn a recent tweet, tipster Tron said that S22 Ultra is "dead", and the next will be S22 Note. If the speculation is true, we could witness the return of now-extinct Samsung Galaxy Note devices. The last time when Samsung released a Note series was back in August of 2020, after which the series was discontinued to make space for the foldable series. But as it turns out Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip series are in no way a match to the Note series. Samsung's Galaxy Note smartphones have always been an augmented version of the S series models. Not only were these devices ensured to come with the latest hardware and software upgrades from the year, but they also had small upgrades over the S series. The Note devices have always aimed towards enhancing productivity and even came with dedicated S-Pen slots that are still not available in the Galaxy S21 Ultra or Z Fold3. Samsung Note Series has always been the leading device for the tech giant and has helped them create a massive fan base. The reason for which the series was discontinued has also worked out in favour of the company as the devices from the foldable series are high in demand around the globe. This means that Samsung wouldn't like to affect the sales of foldable series by launching a new Note series. This could be the reason why Samsung has chosen to launch a Note device with the S22 series and not as a separate series of its own. As far as the specification details of the Galaxy S22 Ultra, which could now become the S22 Note, is concerned, leaked images of the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra model have already surfaced. The images suggest that the device will have a curved edge, hole punched display. A quad rear camera setup can also be seen in the image of the device, and it is expected that the Galaxy S22 ultra will pack a 108MP camera. |
| Fiberise 85% Telecom Towers, Provide Level Playing Field With Satcom: Vodafone Idea Posted: 10 Dec 2021 12:51 AM PST
The need for fiberisation of the telecom towers in India for a successful 5G rollout is quite high. Highlighting that, P Balaji, Chief Regulatory and Corporate Affairs Officer, Vodafone Idea, said a robust digital infrastructure deployment is needed, and efforts should be made to fiberise 85% of all telecom towers in India in the next 24 months from the current 35%. Balaji said that while the goal might seem daunting, it is quite possible if India has a holistic approach on rights of way (RoW) approvals and collaboration between the private sector, central ministry, state and local administration. Balaji Asks to Ensure a Level Playing Field Between Terrestrial and Satcom PlayersSpeaking at the India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2021, Balaji requested for the government to reduce litigation in the sector. Adding to this, Balaji said that taxes and levies should be reduced from the sector as it should not be looked at as a revenue maximisation source of the government. Further, Balaji said that an adequate spectrum for 5G auctions along with affordable pricing and easy payment terms must be ensured. Most importantly, Balaji said that a level playing field with satellite communications (Satcom) and telecom players must be ensured. Telcos have invested huge amounts of money for creating PAN-India coverage, and they are continuing to expand and reach remote parts of the country as well. Balaji said, "for all the hype surrounding satellite systems, it is but a small jump technology model to reach floating population or for specific inhospitable terrains. The need, therefore, is to treat it as such and focus on operator-led broadband and rural coverage for all Indians". Balaji's words come at a time when the satcom players have been asking for getting access to a crucial spectrum via an administrative allocation instead of participating with the telcos at the spectrum auctions. The telecom operators want a uniform treatment and thus want the satcom players to participate in the spectrum auctions as well. |
| 5G FWA to Reduce Digital Divide in India: TRAI Chairman Posted: 09 Dec 2021 11:37 PM PST
5G is going to play a pivotal role in changing and developing all the sectors of the economy, said P D Vaghela, Chairman, TRAI. But most of all, 5G is going to help reduce the digital divide that exists in India today. While almost every urban city and its surrounding towns have mobile network access, there are many rural and remote regions in India that still don't have access to mobile network services. With 5G Fixed-Wireless-Access (FWA), this will change. Vaghela said that in places where normal mobile networks and fiber can't reach, FWA devices connected to 5G networks could be installed to ensure that mobile network coverage reaches there too. India Will See a New Generation of Mobile Communications in Less than 10 YearsSpeaking at the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2021 event, the TRAI chairman said that policymakers and regulators should be aware of all the technological innovations that are happening and should be able to avoid disruptions that may occur. According to Vaghela, all the stakeholders in the industry, including the state governments, central governments, various sectoral regulators, and local bodies, will have to work in a synchronised manner for facilitating the development of telecom infrastructures in all parts of the country. Vaghela said that India needs to look after the consumer interest and avoid any potential unintended negative consequences by offering an enabling regulatory and policy regime. The TRAI chairman said that India is at a stage where it will see a new generation of mobile communication in less than ten years. To seize up the opportunities that 5G along with the new-age tech startups present in the future, India needs formal sector arrangements. Vaghela didn't forget to mention 6G in his note. While 5G is not even fully developed and deployed yet, there's already a buzz of 6G, said Vaghela. All of this will contribute to the arrival of new generation mobile communications in less than a decade. |

Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) were the first to initiate the tariff hike, and Reliance Jio followed suit soon enough. The surge in tariff of these plans was around 20% which meant that users who used to purchase affordable packs under Rs 250 couldn't do so anymore. The revised tariffs of the prepaid plans provided by the telcos now offer quite different plans under Rs 250. Mentioned below is a comparison between the three telcos and the prepaid plans offered by them under Rs 250. Reliance Jio – Plans Under Rs 250For users interested in 1GB daily data packs, Reliance Jio has a few plans to offer. The same benefits are available for a pack validity of 23 days at Rs 199. Further, for a price of Rs 239, users can get identical benefits for a validity period of 28 days. In addition to this, Jio also offers a few only data plans and data vouchers below Rs 250 as well. | Airtel, Vi Want This From the Government Now Posted: 09 Dec 2021 08:19 PM PST
Both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea have benefited from the recent tariff hikes and the relief measures announced by the government. But things haven't ended here for the telos. For 5G to become a reality, the telcos need to do more work and get more cash in hand so that they can be ready for more aggressive network investments. There are two things that both Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea want from the government — a) affordable spectrum for 5G, and b) reduced litigation in the sector. IMC 2021 Reveals Operators Requesting for Affordable Spectrum and Reduced LitigationSpeaking at the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2021, Sunil Bharti Mittal, Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, requested the government to reduce litigation from the sector. The same was said by Ravinder Takkar, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Vodafone Idea. Akhil Gupta, Vice Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, during the same event that affordable spectrum is required to proliferate 5G in India and make it reach every part of the country. Mittal and Takkar have said the same. As for the reduced litigation, the government is already working on how to make it happen. The second set of reforms that are expected to be announced in the near future are expected to include reduced litigation as well. Mittal had also urged the industry to work together and share infrastructure with each other. This will ensure that the cost of rolling out new networks are reduced for the telcos, which in turn can affect their overall profits or losses massively. Takkar also said that the quality of the telecom services needs to go up after the tariff hikes. For the unaware, all the private telecom operators in the country had gone for a 20% to 25% tariff hike recently. The telcos want the spectrum to become more affordable so that their cost for rolling out 5G networks can become feasible, and also, the litigation in the sector must be reduced so that everyone involved can save money as well as time. |
| Bharti Airtel Vouches for Broadband for All Posted: 09 Dec 2021 07:03 PM PST
Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest telecom operator, wants broadband to reach everyone in the country. Akhil Gupta, Vice Chairman, Bharti Enterprises, said that the government's aim should not be revenue maximisation but for the broadband to reach everyone. Thus when the 5G spectrum is offered to the telcos, the pricing needs to be affordable. Without affordable pricing, it will be hard for the telcos to reach everywhere with mobile broadband services. Speaking at the Indian Mobile Congress (IMC) 2021, Gupta said that for proliferating 5G in India fast, firstly, the spectrum needs to be affordable, but then the states also need to align their rights of way (RoW) policies with that of the central government. Sharing of infrastructure between the telcos is something that should be enabled and encouraged. Government and Industry Must Work Together to Launch 5G SuccessfullyGupta said that for the telecom operators to keep investing in the sector, the government and the industry must work together with the aim of providing broadband for everyone. The government's revival package and the recently introduced tariff hikes will help in propelling the industry forward, said Gupta. But the tariffs are still not at the place where Airtel wants them to be. Gupta said that the ideal average revenue per user (ARPU) figure is Rs 300, where the industry hasn't reached yet. This hints that the future tariff hikes will push for making the ARPU of Airtel Rs 300. Gupta explained that for the telcos to ensure that 5G reaches every corner of the country, heavy capital investments are required. To do that, it is important that the telcos are earning significantly, and that is why there is a need for higher ARPU. According to Gupta, the telcos must share infrastructure with each other and stressed that state governments must work with the central government's RoW to ensure that everything goes right for everyone. Sharing of infrastructure would result in massive savings for the operators. |

Although it is one of the cheapest plans available among the 1 Gbps plans, two concerns exist. Tata Sky broadband service may not be available in all regions like Airtel Xstream and JioFiber. Another is the lack of OTT subscription benefits in the plan. MTNL broadband plans offering 1 Gbps speedMahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has a 1 Gbps broadband plan for its Delhi circle.
