The Vivo V23 lineup in India is speculated to include Vivo V23 and Vivo V23 Pro handsets. The recent report has also confirmed the previously reported rumours that the Vivo V23 series will feature dual front cameras. As far as other specifications of the devices are considered it is expected that the devices will feature an ultra-slim 3D curved display and a sunshine gold colour option for the smartphones has also been confirmed. For the camera module of the handsets, it is expected that Vivo V23 series will feature a triple rear camera setup with a 64MP primary camera. | Reliance Jio Discontinues Re 1 Plan After all the Hype Posted: 24 Dec 2021 04:29 AM PST
Reliance Jio, India's number one telecom operator, has discontinued its Re 1 prepaid plan completely. The plan is not available to recharge on the mobile app of the company or its desktop website. This is a little disappointing after all the hype that Re 1 plan had created. The telco had initially announced that it was offering 100MB of data for 30 days. This had made a lot of people happy as here was the loophole to get 1GB of data for a very affordable price as compared to Jio's Rs 15 4G data voucher offering 1GB of data as well. But then, a day later, Jio had changed the benefits of the Re 1 plan from 100MB to 10MB and that too with a very short validity of 1 day. It was a little confusing to understand what Jio was targeting with the plan. Was this some sort of a test, or was it just wrong execution, Jio has not responded to the queries until the time of publishing this story. Reliance Jio's Prepaid Vouchers that Offer 4G DataThe Re 1 plan was a prepaid voucher that offered 4G data to the users. It was mentioned under the 'Value' section, but it has been removed now. Now the only three plans on offer under the 'Value' section of the telco are Rs 1559, Rs 395, and Rs 155. These three vouchers aren't data only plans; they also bundle in voice calling and SMS benefits for the consumers. But there are prepaid vouchers that solely offer 4G data vouchers. If you are looking for such plans, the most affordable one that you can get from Jio is the Rs 15 voucher which offers 1GB of data. There are more plans, including Rs 25, Rs 61, and Rs 121, for which users will get 2GB, 6GB, and 12GB of data. All of these plans have the same validity as the user's existing unlimited benefits prepaid plan. |
| Apple Could Introduce M2 chipsets in 2022 Built on 4nm Process Posted: 24 Dec 2021 03:06 AM PST
Cupertino-based tech giant Apple took a decision last year to rely on its in-house built Apple Silicon chips instead of intel chipset and the MacBook series rolled out last year were among the first to have the said chipset. As of now, Apple has launched three chips in total which have been designed based on the ARM architecture. Recent reports have now suggested that Apple might be working on new chipsets to replace the existing three chipsets. These upcoming chipsets are expected to be M2, M2 Pro and M2 Max and a few details about the chips have also been revealed. The Details About the ChipsetThe sources from the supply chain industry have claimed that Apple will be looking to bring updates to its existing Apple Silicon chips in every 18 months. As far as the above-mentioned chipsets are considered, it is expected that the M2 chipset from Apple could arrive in the first half of 2022 and it currently has the codename, Staten. Users can expect another M2X chipset with the codename Rhodes in the first half of 2023. It is also anticipated that there will be M2 Pro and M2 Max processors with unique graphic cores. The reports suggest that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will use a 4nm process to build all the M2 chipsets which will be offered by Apple. In addition to this, TSMC might as well use its 3nm process to build the next series of processors after M2 – the M3 lineup. It is also expected that the new M2 series from the tech giant will be featured on six different devices. It is anticipated that MacBook will feature an M2 chipset whereas the MacBook Pro series could come with M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets. In a quite similar fashion, Apple could launch its iMac series with M2 processors while iMac Pro from Apple could feature M2 Pro and M2 Max chipsets. Furthermore, Mac Mini could come with an M2 chipset while the Mac Pro series could feature M2 Pro and M2 Max processors. |

| Vodafone Idea Recognised by Data Security Council of India for Multiple Awards Posted: 24 Dec 2021 12:16 AM PST
Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest telecom operator in India, has been recognised for having the Best Security Operations Centre in the Country by the Data Security Council of India (DSCI). In addition to this, Vodafone Idea's CISO, Mathan Kasilingam, has been recognised as the Best Security Leader of the year. DSCI Identifies the Best Players Who Took Proactive Steps for Security
DSCI puts efforts into recognising and honouring organisations as well as individuals who took proactive, strategic, innovative security, and privacy steps for helping their organisations in addressing the real risks, building resilience against attacks, increasing trustworthiness, and creating a conducive environment for doing business. At a time when every individual and organisation is loading up on the security and privacy front, the dual recognitions from DSCI places Vodafone Idea in a very good light. The importance of cyber-security has never been any higher than where it is now. In the telecom domain, a secure infrastructure is everything. The techniques, protocols, and measures used by the telcos to provide integrity, safety, authentication for transmission over the communication network and confidentiality are very important. For the unaware, the Data Security Council of India (DSCI) is a premier industry body on data protection and cyber security set up by Nasscom. The aim of DSCI is to ensure that a trustworthy and secure cyber environment prevails. With 5G on the cusp of becoming a reality very soon, individuals, as well as enterprises, would be adapting to a digital lifestyle in an even heavier manner. | Telcos Can Now Archive Users Call, Internet Data for Up to 2 Years Posted: 23 Dec 2021 11:20 PM PST
The telecom operators in India can now archive the call data and internet usage records of users for up to two years. According to a mandate by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the government will now allow telecom companies to archive user call and internet usage data for up to two years instead of one year due to security reasons. As per a PTI report, the amendments on the telecom licenses were issued on December 21 and extended to other forms of telecom permits on December 22. Telecom Companies Can Only Destroy User Call and Internet Usage Data After Two YearsDue to security concerns, the licensor might require the user call and internet usage data; thus, the telecom operators will have to hold it for up to two years at least. If there's no direction from the DoT after that, the telcos can delete the user data at their discretion. The data being stored is not to spy on the general public but is being done for the public interest to ensure that the security of the state is not compromised. Telcos will maintain all data, including log-in and log-out details of subscribers for services provided such as internet access, internet telephony services, e-mail, Wi-Fi calling, and more. Earlier, the DoT had only asked the telcos to maintain all of these records for up to one year. With this record, whenever necessary, in the public interest, the high-level authorities can access this data to ensure that the security of the state is maintained. This is not to spy on people, but a necessary step from the government to ensure that if there's criminal activity prevailing, it could be tracked as soon as possible through these records and the responsible individuals or organisations or both can be held responsible. As mentioned above, the DoT circular mandating this rule was issued on December 21, 2021. |

| Telecom Sector Reforms 2.0 Will Focus on Less Litigation and Easy Norms Posted: 23 Dec 2021 09:15 PM PST
The telecom sector got a boost earlier this year when the Indian government came out with a set of aid reforms. Telcos got an option to accept a moratorium on payments of statutory dues, and the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) also returned the bank guarantees (BGs) worth thousands of crores to the operators. But the government isn't going to stop there. There is another set of reforms for the sector lurking around the corner. The telecom sector reforms 2.0 are expected to be announced by the government in a short time frame. According to a LiveMint report, the next set of reforms will keep their focus on reducing litigation from the sector and also bringing in easy reforms. Telcos to Face Less Litigation and Get Aided by Easy Norms in the SectorAccording to the publication's report, the centre is considering several options right now, which also includes bringing in a new law or making changes to the existing one. Ashwini Vaishnaw, Communications and Information Technology minister, said the government's aim is to promote innovation in the industry and connect the unconnected. The government doesn't want the telcos to be busy with litigation. Vaishnaw added that many cases have already become defunct after the government changed the definition of the adjusted gross revenue (AGR). The minister said the government was currently looking at all the options when the topic of whether the centre would try and bring fresh legislation to aid the growth of the industry came up. The telecom sector reforms 2.0 won't just focus on less litigation but also on the rationalisation of levies and taxes. Note that DoT has already recommended to the finance ministry that credits should be refunded to the telcos worth more than Rs 50,000 crore that is stuck under the goods and services tax. But this isn't something that will happen right away as the issue is a little more complex to resolve. |
