Posted: 19 Jan 2022 08:24 AM PST

iPhone 14

There have been multiple rumours already about the next flagship smartphone series from Apple. iPhone 14 series of smartphones from the company is expected to arrive in the latter half of 2022 and is expected to comprise of four models – iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Max, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The rumours suggest that the manufacturer will be dropping its 'mini' model from the lineup after the unsuccessful iPhone 13 mini. Now the latest report suggests that, in a first, Apple iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max might arrive with an increased storage option of up to 256GB instead of 128GB for the starting model.

Rumours Around iPhone 14 Lineup

According to a recent report from MacRumors, analyst Jeff Pu has revealed some new intel on the upcoming iPhone 14 series. To recall, iPhone 13 series consisted of two Pro models in the lineup which were distinguished from the vanilla and the mini model via the camera specs as well as storage options. As far as the camera specs of the devices were considered, all the four devices featured 12MP primary sensors, however, the non-Pro models in the iPhone 13 series lacked telephoto, optical zoom and LiDAR scanner. Moreover, in the iPhone 13 lineup, only the Pro and Pro Max models had 6GB of RAM.

But now it has been reported that all the smartphones in iPhone 14 series will feature 6GB of RAM which raises the question that which feature will differentiate Pro models from the non-Pro models. According to Jeff Pu, the upcoming Apple iPhone Pro and iPhone Pro Max models are guaranteed to receive additional onboard storage and both handsets will feature 256GB of storage space in the starting variant, unlike iPhone 13 Pro models which had 128GB of internal storage.

Furthermore, it has already been reported that in the upcoming iPhone 14 series all four models will come equipped with a 120Hz refresh rate support on the display unlike the iPhone 13 series that has only two models – iPhone Pro and Pro MAX that feature 120Hz refresh rate. Moreover, it is also speculated that the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will feature a 48MP camera. All these speculations surrounding the device has definitely increased the hype for the upcoming flagship iPhone 14 Series from Apple.

The ISP speed index report from Netflix for the month of December is live and there are a few changes this time as compared to the previous month. Spectra and One Broadband have been able to make their way to the top of the leader board. For those unaware, Netflix collects speed data of all the IPSs and shares it with the users for them to make an aware choice while opting for a service.

ISP Speed Index Report

Choosing an ISP from the top of the leader board can be beneficial for the users as it enhances their overall streaming experience. The Speed Index report for the month of November featured a total of 9 ISPs in the top category which included Jio Giga Fiber, 7 Star Digital, Airtel, Alliance Broadband, Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT), D-VoIS, Excitel Broadband, Hathway, and Tata Sky Broadband.

The report released for the month of December, however, marks the addition of two new service providers – Spectra and One Broadband in the top category. The top category ISPs provide on an average 3.6 Mbps of internet speed and for the month of December, it includes 11 ISPs – Jio Giga Fiber, 7 Star Digital, Airtel, Alliance Broadband, Atria Convergence Technologies (ACT), D-VoIS, Excitel Broadband, Hathway, and Tata Sky Broadband, Spectra and One Broadband.

The next in the line is ISPs with 3.2 Mbps of average speed that consists of BSNL and Tikona. The government-owned service provider MTNL managed to be at the bottom of the list with an average speed of 2.8 Mbps.

The growth of Spectra can be credited to its efficient performance in six major cities across India where it offers broadband connectivity with up to 1 Gbps of internet speed. On the other hand, One Broadband has been providing high-speed internet connectivity in select cities of India.

DD Free Dish Has Grown Immensely in Last Few Years Says Prasar Bharti CEO

DD Free Dish Growth

Indian free-to-air (FTA) satellite television provider DD Free Dish has transpired to be the enabler of competitiveness in the media and television industry with its presence in more than 40 million Indian households, according to the CEO of Prasar Bharti, Shashi Shekhar Vempati. The statement was made by Prasar Bharti's CEO on Wednesday where he talked about the astounding growth witnessed by the platform in the last few years. Vempati was delivering the keynote at the 18th edition of Video and Broadband Summit (VBS).

Growth of DD Free Dish and M&E Industry

According to the CEO of Prasar Bharti, when he joined the platform back in 2017, DD Free Dish had its presence in over 2 crore households which have doubled since then. Talking further about the remarkable growth of DD Free Dish, he said that the growth of channels like Dangal and genres such as Bhojpuri has become popular because of the Free Dish user base. He further stated that the platform allows for new channels that have been challenging the bigger media houses. He said that DD Free Dish allows users to subscribe to the content according to their wishes.

Talking about the changes that he has witnessed so far in his five-year journey with the company, Vempati said that there has been a remarkable change in the TV and Video viewing industry. These changes can be credited to regulatory interventions, the phasing out of analogue terrestrial TV and the surge in demand for OTT platforms. Talking about the Free Dish itself, the CEO said that the company has transformed into IT-based from paper-based ever since the pandemic has hit. He said that the situation demands the players in the industry to think innovatively and always prioritize technology.

It is to be noted that Prasar Bharti has been able to almost double its growth every year, with its YouTube channel registering billions of views every month. The CEO said that most of the technology that is required for the betterment of the M&E industry is imported from other countries and thus the royalties are received by them as well. He said that it is about time India leverages its strength as the biggest media market and largest English-speaking market to build a domestic ecosystem for technology that can support the M&E sector.

BSNL Trumps Tata Sky by Offering Better 150 Mbps Broadband Plan

Posted: 19 Jan 2022 04:39 AM PST

BSNL

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has trumped Tata Sky by offering a better 150 Mbps broadband plan. BSNL Bharat Fibre offers its 150 Mbps plan for Rs 949 per month. At the same time, Tata Sky Broadband offers its same speed plan for Rs 1050 per month. So that's Rs 100 expensive before including taxes. Both the companies offer a free fixed-line voice calling connection with their 150 Mbps broadband plans. So is the price difference the only reason why BSNL's plan is better than Tata Sky's plan? Not quite so, here's what you should know.

BSNL Also Bundles in These Benefits Which Tata Sky Doesn't

Note that BSNL bundles additional over-the-top (OTT) benefits which Tata Sky doesn't. With BSNL's 150 Mbps plan, users will get access to SonyLIV Premium, ZEE5, Voot Premium, and YUPP TV. Further, with this plan, BSNL is offering a 90% discount of up to Rs 500 on the first month's bill.

There's another major difference between the two plans. It is in the amount of fair-usage-policy (FUP) data that is offered to the customer. BSNL offers users 2000GB of 2TB of data per month, while Tata Sky Broadband offers 3300GB or 3.3TB of data.

Post the consumption of FUP data, the internet speed for BSNL users with this plan would drop to 10 Mbps. But that really isn't a big issue. There is hardly a user who can consume 2TB of data per month. Even with a big family, it is quite hard to do so with a 150 Mbps plan.

So while Tata Sky Broadband offers 3.3TB of monthly data, which is more than what BSNL offers to the users, there's no big advantage that Tata Sky users will get here. It is more or less going to have the same impact on the user. But with the additional benefits offered, BSNL is offering one of the best 150 Mbps plans in the market right now.

WhatsApp Working on a New Feature to Ease User Experience

WhatsApp

Facebook-owned social media giant WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature to ease user experience. Much recently, WhatsApp was spotted testing an in-app chat support feature. It is expected to allow users to report any problems or get help from support directly through a chat window. Note that this is not the first time WhatsApp is testing something like this. The company had earlier tested a similar feature on the beta version of the application, but for some reason, it didn't make it to the stable version.

WhatsApp Testing the New Feature for Both iOS and Android

According to a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is testing the new feature for both iOS (on version 22.2.72) and Android (on version 2.22.3.5) applications.

At present, if you have any issues and go to the Help and then Contact Us option, you will be redirected to a separate window where users will be asked to submit their concerns along with a picture of the same attached.

Now WhatsApp is testing the beta version of the application with new chat support for both iOS and Android users. Thus, in the beta version, when a user clicks on the contact us option, a new message is displayed which says, "we will respond to you in a WhatsApp chat".

WhatsApp then sends a text message to the customer with its verified account, which has a green tick. The feature is still in the testing phase and might not make it to the final version of the app itself.

This feature will allow users to get prompt responses from the application. The company is also working on new drawing tools. WhatsApp will give users more pencils and tools to draw on videos and images they send to their contacts. It will make scribbling on pictures and videos an easier task before users send it. The pencils are reported to come in different sizes.
