Excitel vs Hathway 100 Mbps Plans

When it comes to broadband plans, the industry remains mainly dominated by the key players of the market. However, there are few other internet service providers (ISPs) that provide broadband plans that offer good quality service and high-speed connectivity. These ISPs offer plans at a reasonable price tag for their subscriber base with varying internet speeds. In this article, we are going to take a look at 100 Mbps broadband plans offered by two ISPs of India – Excitel and Hathway along with the plan details.

100 Mbps Plan from Excitel

Excitel is one of the fastest-growing ISPs in India that offers super high consistency performance. The company is now providing its services in more than 6,00,000 homes in India and is continuing to grow. Using its European technology, the Fiber First from Excitel offers multiple broadband plans. While opting for any broadband plan, it is necessary to know the requirement. 100 Mbps plans are apt for household connections with multiple users as well as to run small businesses. With most of the population tuning in online in the last couple of years, the 100 Mbps speed plans are suitable for work from home, online learning, gaming and entertainment purposes as well, all at once. Users with small businesses can also get the 100 Mbps plan as it provides seamless connectivity across multiple devices, providing efficiency.

India Bans Garena Free Fire Battle Game Citing National Security

Posted: 14 Feb 2022 07:43 AM PST

Garena Free Fire

The Ministry of Home Affairs has banned the popular battle royale game Garena Free Fire, citing national security reasons. Besides Garena Free Fire, 53 other Chinese applications are also banned by the government.

This is the second action against Chinese apps amid the growing political tensions with China. The government of India banned 43 apps in November 2021 over the same reasons of national security risk.

Garena Free Fire was one of the most popular games in the country, which saw a massive download rate in 2021, with a 72% increase in its installation compared to 2020. The game started gaining popularity after the PUBG ban in September 2020 and continued to remain on top even after the arrival of other Indian counterparts. Interestingly, the game was developed by a Singapore-based company but was clubbed alongside other Chinese applications.

What is Garena Free Fire?

In Garena Free Fire, 50 players compete against each other in a death match. They are thrown out of an aircraft without any weapons, and they need to kill other players for survival. There are weapons all across the map for the players to collect, and you may collect the opponent's weapons after killing them.

As in PUBG, the available safe play area shrinks over time, confining the surviving survivors in a tight circle and upping the stakes. Drive around in abandoned cars for easy journeys, and search legendary riches and supplies that are airdropped twice or three times throughout the 10-minute session. As appealing as these boxes may appear, they are also an open invitation for neighbouring players to camp and hunt you down, as the colourful smoke rising from them reveals your location. The players can get daily redeem codes that deliver premium rewards to give them an edge in games. The game continues until one survivor remains.

Garena Free Fire was not only popular in India but was also top-rated in the United States.

Garena Free Fire and it is enhanced version Garena Free Fire Max remain banned on the Apple App Store. The Max version seems available for download on Google Play Store but is likely to be removed soon.

Alternatives for Garena Free Fire

The players can thank that PUBG Mobile is back in India in BGMI and PUBG New State. The fans may also play Call of Duty, but the game is not always reported to offer a smooth performance over budget smartphones.

Infinix Zero 5G vs Tecno Pova 5G: Which Is Better Option

Posted: 14 Feb 2022 05:14 AM PST

Infinix Zero 5G vs Tecno Pova 5G

Hong Kong-based smartphone manufacturer today introduced its first 5G enabled smartphone Infinix Zero 5G in India. The smartphone comes as a mid-range affordable device, providing value for users' money. Interestingly enough, the Chinese smartphone manufacturer Tecno, known for its budget smartphones also launched Tecno Pova 5G last week in the same price category. This might create confusion in the users' minds while making a choice. Mentioned below is an in-depth comparison between the specification and price details of both devices, to ensure users make the right choice according to their needs.

Display

The newly launched Infinix Zero 5G comes with a display featuring a 6.78-inch full-HD+ IPS LTPS (1,080×2,460pixels) display with a 120Hz refresh rate. On the other hand, Tecno Pova 5G was launched in India with a 6.9-inch LCD display with support for FHD+ resolution and 120Hz refresh rate.

Processors and Storage Configuration

Infinix Zero 5G is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900 chipset which is coupled with up to 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB of UFS 3.1 storage. The handset offers an additional 5GB of RAM expandable virtually. The internal storage can also be expanded up to 256GB through a microSD card. Tecno Pova 5G as well is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 900 SoC coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Tecno Pova 5G also offers 3GB of virtually expandable RAM and expandable internal storage of up to 512GB.

Camera Specifications and Battery

Infinix Zero 5G comes with a triple rear camera setup headlined by a 48MP primary sensor. The primary sensor on the device is accompanied by a 13MP portrait lens with 2x optical zoom and 30x digital zoom as well as a 2MP depth sensor. The front of the device features a 16MP selfie camera. Infinix Zero 5G is backed by a 5000mAh battery and comes with 33W fast charge technology.

Talking about Tecno Pova 5G, the device features a triple-camera setup at the rear with a 50MP sensor, a 2MP secondary sensor, and an AI lens. At the front is a 16MP selfie snapper. The device packs a 6000mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging.

Price Details

The newly launched Infinix Zero 5G arrives with a price tag of Rs 19,999 for the sole 8GB + 128GB variant. This is very interesting as Tecno Pova 5G was also launched with the same price tag of Rs 19,999 last week for its 8GB + 128GB variant.

Verdict

Both mid-ranging 5G enabled devices, come with nearly the same specification details. With the pricing of the devices being the same, there are a few aspects where Tecno Pova 5G might have a little upper hand over Infinix Zero 5G. The former offers a slightly larger, display and features a bigger battery unit as well. However, performance-wise both devices are quite similar as they feature the same Dimensity 900 chipset.

Airtel Not Offering 1.5GB Daily Data Plan for 365 Days is a Disappointment

Posted: 14 Feb 2022 04:22 AM PST

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel doesn't offer a 1.5GB daily data prepaid for 365 days. It is a big disappointment as its competitors, including Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi), provide their users with such a plan. Airtel is primarily looking for the customers to recharge again and again so that it can earn more through them at regular intervals. Long-term prepaid plans allow users to escape the effect of prepaid tariff hikes for some time.

The 1.5GB daily data prepaid plan is always in heavy demand from the users of all the telcos. Knowing that users would be primarily going for this plan, Airtel isn't offering the long-term or 1-year validity plan with 1.5GB daily data to its users. This would mean that Airtel users would have to time and again recharge with the shorter validity plans with higher tariffs in the future. Users could either queue their plans by purchasing them multiple times or just go for the higher tariff plan in the future (when tariff hikes are implemented).

Bharti Airtel All 1.5GB Daily Data Prepaid Plans

Currently, users can purchase four 1.5GB of daily data prepaid plans from Bharti Airtel. These plans cost Rs 299, Rs 479, Rs 666, and Rs 719.

All of these plans bundle the same benefits, including free unlimited voice calling, 100 SMS/day, and Airtel Thanks. Airtel Thanks includes a free one-month trial subscription of Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition, Apollo 24|7 Circle, Wynk Music, and more.

The only difference between these plans is the number of days they bring the service for. In simple words, their validity is different. The Rs 299, Rs 479, Rs 666, and Rs 719 plans carry a validity of 28 days, 56 days, 77 days, and 719 days, respectively. It would have been a good thing if Airtel also offered a 365 days prepaid plan to the users with 1.5GB of daily data. Hopefully, the telco will bring such a plan in the near future.

Apple Registers Three Mac Devices at EEC, Could Arrive at Alleged March Event

Posted: 14 Feb 2022 03:39 AM PST

Apple Mac

The Cupertino based tech giant Apple, according to a rumoured development, has registered three new Macs in the Eurasian regulatory database. The Macs registered by Apple come with model numbers A2615, A2681 and A2686. The rumours also suggest that one of these devices registered by Apple is a laptop. The registration of devices on the database hints towards the fact that the company is indeed preparing for what could be its first virtual event in the month of March.

Apple to Launch Multiple Devices at March Event

According to a report published by Bloomberg quite recently, Apple is gearing up for its first virtual media event of 2022 where the company could be introducing a new Mac. It has been customary for Apple to register its upcoming device on the Eurasian regulatory database somewhere between one to three months prior to the event. Hence, the registration of the three new Macs makes a lot of sense and the company could actually be holding its event. The rumours suggest that the virtual event will take place on March 8 but nothing has been confirmed by the company.

Apple has a tendency to register its devices which are based on encryption technologies with Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC). This has made the database a reliable source to know about the upcoming devices from Apple in a near-future timeline. In addition to the three new Macs registered by the company, a few weeks ago, it was reported that the company had registered iPhone and iPad models with the Eurasian Economic Commission database. This actually could be the much-awaited 5G enabled iPhone SE model which will be introduced by the company this year.

Furthermore, Apple has already stated that the company will be finishing its Apple Silicon transition within the next couple of years and therefore, it is expected that a lot of new Mac models could arrive in 2022. The rumoured March event could witness the launch of a high-end Mac Mini along with the new iPhone SE and more. Apple could also possibly release a teaser for its highly anticipated Apple Silicon Mac Pro.

BSNL, Vodafone Idea Can Make a Comeback If This Can Happen

Posted: 14 Feb 2022 01:10 AM PST

BSNL Vi

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) and Vodafone Idea (Vi), two of the struggling telecom operators, can make a comeback in India if they are able to move ahead aggressively with 4G. Solving core customer problems fast is the best to ensure that the business grows exponentially. In India, users are desperately looking for a uniform and high-speed 4G experience. Due to multiple factors, none of the telcos have consistently delivered a seamless 4G experience to their users. This is the gap that Vodafone Idea and BSNL can fill in the market. But it is easier said than done. Neither of the telcos has the kind of money for going on the attack with their 4G. BSNL, in fact, doesn't even have live 4G networks across the country. The state-run telco is working to change that.

Where is BSNL 4G and When It Will Launch?

BSNL is expected to complete the 4G trials with the Centre of Development of Telematics (C-DoT) and the Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) before the end of February 2022. This means that BSNL's 4G should arrive within 2022.

The IT minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, had said that BSNL will be making the order for 4G equipment by April this year and pointed out that by August or September, its 4G networks will start rolling out. This all depends on the timely finishing of the 4G trials, which have already been delayed by several months.

Vodafone Idea 4G Needs Fuel

While Vodafone Idea is present almost everywhere across the nation with its 4G networks, the telco's services aren't at par with what Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel can deliver. This is majorly because of the low capex levels of the telco. It has been unable to raise funds from the outside market and investors. Even the company promoters have not provided Vodafone Idea with any sort of monetary help despite the government's steps to offer relief measures to the industry.

The telco's 4G networks lack coverage severely when compared to Jio and Airtel's networks. At the same time, Vi sells its prepaid plans at the industry high figures to keep its average revenue per user (ARPU) stable, but due to the lack of a good experience, many users are leaving the network of the telco. The prepaid tariff hike only added to increase the subscriber churn rate.

So How Can Vi and BSNL Turn Things Around?

For BSNL, the clear way is to roll out 4G as fast as possible. It would help the state-run telco in adding new subscribers. Vodafone Idea needs to raise funds and keep increasing capex levels. Even if Vi doesn't go too aggressive with 5G, it won't create a problem for the telco. All that it should focus on right now is working to ensure that its 4G networks improve as fast as possible.

Jio Shifting 4G to 1800 MHz band from 850 MHz in Pune

Posted: 14 Feb 2022 12:24 AM PST

Jio

Reliance Jio has been asked by the telecom department to shift to the 1800 MHz frequency band from the current 850 MHz frequencies in the Junnar region of Pune, Maharashtra. The decision has been taken by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) after a careful review of the interferences caused by Jio's 4G network in the region. The operation of the Giant Metrewave Radio Telescope (GMRT) was losing a lot of data because of the interference created by Jio's 4G networks operating in the 850 MHz frequency band.

According to an Indian Express report, Reliance Jio has started shifting the operations from 850 MHz bands to 1800 MHz band in the region. The DoT order has asked the telco to completely cease operations in the 850 MHz band which overlaps with GMRT's operating frequency range.

DoT Took Five Years to Come Out With a Solution

Back in 2017, the GMRT scientists had complained that Jio's 4G networks are creating interference and resulting in data loss. After five years of no action, DoT has asked the telco to vacate the bandwidth and move services to 1800 MHz.

Reliance Jio took no time to commence the shifting process and it will be a relief for the GMRT scientists after a long time. The GMRT officials further hope that other telecom operators in the country would also co-operate and avoid using the 850 MHz frequencies around the GMRT.

Problems such as this can result in plenty of loss for more than just one party involved. Thus, it is important to ensure by the DoT that nothing of such sort happens in the foreseeable future. Even if it does, the DoT should move fast and come out with solutions to alleviate the problems. This time, DoT took five years to offer a solution, hopefully, the next time it is done faster. How it will affect Reliance Jio customers in the area is something that remains to be seen.

Through our diverse product offerings, we have always aimed to democratise technology and ensure our flagship features are not just limited to our premium offerings but across our product portfolio.

At Huawei, we have always given a lot of importance to extensive R&D basis the needs of the consumers and our differentiated offerings at an affordable price-point is what set us apart. Over the years, we have remained focused on every department of our business here, be it our services, sales, marketing, or community. We believe it is this focus and long-term commitment towards the market that always has and will continue to give us an edge over our competition.

Q3. The demand for smart wearables is growing across the world, including India; how does Huawei plan to navigate through the rising demand?

The wearable market in India was already on the growth curve and has been further accelerated by the evolving consumer preferences, increased focus on wellbeing and demand for feature-rich technology solutions that would make daily activities more convenient. In the last year, India has become the fastest-growing wearable market globally.

At Huawei, we have constantly been listening to the needs and identifying the requirements of our customers while developing products that are not just meaningful now but are future-ready. Our focus has been on bringing the latest technology to India that is versatile, efficient, and relevant. Moreover, Huawei has a loyal customer base in India who love and admire our devices and have stood by us throughout our journey. Our products are revered by many, and being the best-seller is a testament to the position we enjoy in the market. We are confident, with the help of our local partners, we will be able to make our products more accessible to our consumers and subsequently drive bigger sales.

Q5. Where do you think the tech industry is moving towards in the next three to five years?

The wearable market in India has seen nothing but a vertical takeoff in the last two years and is expected to remain on a growth trajectory for the next five. Accelerated by the increased focus on wellbeing, wearables are becoming an integral part of the daily lifestyle. While various restrictions over the last two years may have limited the ability to go to the gym or at times even step out of the house, technology has come as a ray of hope.

With rapid development in artificial intelligence, we can expect fast growth in the prevalence of AI-powered personal trainer applications. As a forerunner in tech innovations, Huawei has already introduced the first of its kind animated fitness trainer in the latest Huawei Watch Fit. These applications, while giving users free one-on-one personal training, also monitor various vitals offering real-time user feedback. In the coming years, AI is expected to further develop personalised workout routines, as it can accurately predict safe and optimal workout schedules taking into account age, fitness levels, and body mass.

Living in today's connected world, AI and IoT are going to be key aspects in the future of technology globally. We have already started aligning with these aspects because while wellness might be the sole focus today, it is artificial intelligence that is going to revolutionise the wearable industry in the future. At Huawei, technology and innovation have been at the heart of everything we do. Having laid a strong emphasis on design, innovation, and superior experience, our devices have resonated well with our customers. We continue to constantly invest in our R&D and strive to address the needs of our consumers with technology that is both essential and usable to everyone.

Q6. Huawei already has the largest R&D Centre in India, outside China. Does the company plan to start manufacturing locally as well in the near future?

With a commitment to partner with India in its digitisation journey, Huawei will make every effort towards making that happen. While we have plans to manufacture our products locally in India in partnership with our manufacturing partners, our focus currently remains on further building on the culture of R&D in the country. We look at India strategically and will continue to invest in our business here as we diversify and grow our footprint in the country. Huawei was among the first movers to build in India its largest R&D Centre, and that underscores our fidelity to our long-term plans for the Indian market.

Q7. What are your views on the developments around semiconductor manufacturing in India? How has Huawei faced the chip shortage, and when do you think the chip problems will be alleviated?

At a time when the world is reeling under acute semiconductor shortage, we believe the latest initiative and policies introduced by the Government will ensure India's place in the global map of hi-tech production hubs. Electronics plays an important role in everyday life, and semiconductor chips form a crucial part of electronics. These schemes are expected to usher in a new era in electronics manufacturing.

Almost every industry has been affected by the shortage of semiconductor chips, including consumer technology. In an effort to recover from this crisis, Huawei has been actively investing in various companies to boost the manufacturing of these semiconductor chips that practically are the backbone of electronics manufacturing.

This new joint venture will leverage the geostationary (GEO) and medium earth orbit (MEO) satellite constellations capable of delivering multi-gigabit links and capacity to the enterprises, retail customers, and mobile backhaul across India and its neighbouring regions.

Jio Has Entered Multi-Year Capacity Purchase Agreement

With this joint venture, Reliance Jio will be providing SES's satellite data and connectivity services in the country. There will be select maritime and aeronautical international customers who may be served by SES. The JV will benefit from the deep sales reach and the brand position of Jio in India, and SES can provide up to 100 Gbps capacity from its end.

JSTL will be developing and setting up an extensive gateway infrastructure in India for providing satellite-based broadband services. Jio has entered a multi-year capacity purchase agreement with this JV, which will depend on certain milestones. There will also be equipment and gateway purchases from Jio, which will approximately be around US $100 million.

This JV from Jio will compete with the one that Bharti Airtel and Hughes have formed. Earlier this year, Airtel and Hughes announced that they are partnering to bring a new JV to satellite broadband services JV in India — HCIPL.

Akash Ambani, Director, Jio, said that satellite communications services would help Jio in providing connectivity in the remotest towns, enterprises, and villages in the country.

This will be a boost to Jio's fibre connectivity services.

A mesh Wi-Fi system is a way to establish good Wi-Fi coverage across larger areas. In simplest terms, a mesh network consists of a group of devices that act as a single Wi-Fi network. Compared to a Wi-Fi router placed at one point in your home, you can have multiple sources of Wi-Fi around your house. The main router within a mesh Wi-Fi system will connect directly to your modem, and the other nodes will expand the coverage. They are all part of a single wireless network, which means they carry the same SSID and password. Mesh Wi-Fi network helps eliminate the loss in connectivity by reducing the dead points around your house. Vi App Offers Hungama Music for Free

Vi App

Vodafone Idea (Vi) had announced its partnership with Hungama Music a few months back. The telco is offering users a free experience of Hungama Music directly from its mobile app. Using the Vi app, a Vodafone Idea subscriber can directly access the platform of Hungama Music and play songs from there. For the unaware, Hungama Music is one of the largest aggregator, distributor and publisher of audio entertainment content across the world. There are millions of songs, podcasts and more available on Hungama Music for the users. All of this can be accessed by the users by simply going to the Vi app on their smartphones.

First Six Months Free Hungama Music Offered to Vi Users

The telco has mentioned on its website that for the first six months, users will get add-free music and unlimited downloads. Post the six months, users might be charged by Hungama Music for the downloading and offline music experience. The cost might be the standard market subscription charge of Hungama Music.

Note that Vodafone Idea isn't the lone telecom operator which is offering music app services to users. Even Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio offer users free music services. Airtel offers it through the Wynk Music platform while Jio offers it through JioSaavn.

While the other two telcos were offering music services for a very long time, Vi had announced the partnership with Hungama Music quite late in 2021. Regardless, Vi users on unlimited data plans now get multiple over-the-top (OTT) benefits and the inclusion of Hungama Music will only be a positive.

Users can comfortably stream songs from Hungama Music directly through the Vi app.

Along with this, Vi is also offering 1GB of free daily data to the customers in select circles for seven days. Users who don't consume this data won't get a chance to do so in the future once the validity expires. If you haven't received the data offer, it might be because the offer is only rolled out to inactive users for getting their attention.

5G Spectrum Auctions in India Most Likely in May 2022

5G Spectrum Auctions

India's waiting for the rollout of 5G networks, and it won't happen until the time 5G spectrum auctions take place, and the telcos get the necessary arsenal to offer 5G network services. The spectrum auctions are most likely to take place in May 2022. Ashwini Vaishnaw, IT minister of India, said the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) is working to send its recommendations for the 5G spectrum auctions by March. According to a PTI report, the telecom secretary, K Rajaraman, said that whenever TRAI submits the recommendations, it will take the government one month from then to make a decision around it.

Government Working Full Speed to Hold 5G Spectrum Auctions in India

Earlier, the government has taken around 60 to 120 days at least for holding the 5G spectrum auctions whenever it received the recommendations from TRAI. Rajaraman said that in two months, the government will be ready to hold the spectrum auctions completely. Thus, if the recommendations from TRAI arrive in March positively, telcos will get their spectrum auctions in May by the latest.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is relying on the recommendations from the telecom regulatory to make a decision on the pricing of the spectrum that will be put in the auction, along with other things.

To come up with the suggestions, TRAI releases consultation papers for the industry companies and stakeholders.

Rajaraman has already confirmed that MSTC has been finalised as the auctioneer of the 5G spectrum auctions. By February 15, TRAI will get additional comments from the participants regarding the 5G spectrum auctions. On the basis of replies, the regulator would try to come up with the most appropriate measures for the spectrum auctions.

The telecom operators are looking forward to a steep price cut of about 95% in the base price of the spectrum as compared to the previous auctions that will be available. More clarity should come once the TRAI submits its recommendations.

TSSC Looking to Place Indian Youngsters Abroad by Skilling Them: Arvind Bali, TSSC

Posted: 13 Feb 2022 04:54 AM PST

TSSC

The Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC), a non-profit organisation focusing on the issues related to the telecom industry, wants to scale the skilling of Indian youngsters so that they can be placed abroad. Arvind Bali, CEO, TSSC, told TelecomTalk that there's a major need for a skilled workforce not only in India but abroad. The organisation is already setting up international arrangements and certifications so that sending Indians abroad for jobs can become possible.

Bali said that improving the lives of the youth in India along with their career is very important, and for that, the youth require mentorship and guidance. Thus, in 2022, TSSC is coming out with a new centre of excellence and advanced labs on all new technologies across India. Further, the organisation is improving connections by communicating with the schools and colleges of the country. Bali said that TSSC is going to be using a lot of CSR (corporate social responsibility) funds to skill the youth in India.

Technology to Bridge Gap in Quality of Education Offered to Different Parts of India, AR and VR to Help With Teaching

Until the time education is more of an offline thing, the quality of teaching would mostly remain better in the urban cities and towns because of the kind of resources and lifestyle available. However, with education shifting towards a virtual world would mean a more centralised system of teaching with a higher quality service available to students across the country.

Bali said that TSSC is trying to reach out to the youth who are school or college dropouts and deliver them online content for skilling. The organisation is also working on a telco job portal for the youth through which they can get access to the jobs available in the telecom sector.

The biggest thing for TSSC in terms of innovation for the year would be the use of AR (augmented reality) and virtual reality (VR) to teach the youth new skills. Bali said that they are currently working on it. With the advent of the 5G era, the demand for AR and VR content would surely go up, and it would certainly benefit TSSC.

With AR and VR, it would make it easier for TSSC to enable students for experiencing what kind of work they have to do once, for example, they climb a tower pole, etc. This would make learning a very safe and fast experience for the youth across India.

"We have already trained more than 10 lakh youth in different disciplines of telecom, and a lot of that youth has been absorbed in different industries, and a lot of them have also become entrepreneurs," said Bali.
