Realme

For those waiting to buy a new laptop, there could be a new addition in the market soon. Realme, which launched its first laptop in India last year, may launch its new Realme Book Prime in India and other global markets by the end of April 2022.

The news first leaked by the popular tipster Mukul Sharma and picked up by the tech website Mysmartprice reveals that Realme has started testing the new laptop in the European markets. There were leaks earlier from the tipster that Realme is rebranding Realme Book Enhanced Edition, the laptop earlier launched in China, as Realme Book Prime.

Expected Specifications of Realme Book Prime

If that information comes true, Realme Book Prime would be powered by an Intel Core i5-11320H 11th generation Willow Cove architecture processor, built on a 10nm SuperFin fabrication process. This is one of the good processors in the market, especially for medium to heavy tasks and some gaming, although it may not be adept for editing 4K footage in Adobe Premiere Pro. This SoC comes with four cores and eight threads with a base turbo frequency of 3.2GHz and a high core frequency of up to 4.5GHz.

Realme Book Prime will also pack in 16GB LPDDR4x dual-channel RAM and 512GB fast PCIe SSD. Compared to the Realme Book Slim, the upcoming Realme laptop will get a higher thermal design power CPU with 35W, and a dual cooling fan for a better cooling system.

The laptop will have a 14-inch 2K Full Vision display with a 3:2 aspect ratio, 400nits brightness, a 54Whr battery. It would support 65W fast charging and come with a Type-C port. In terms of ports, the buyers can also expect Thunderbolt 4, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, USB-A 3.1 Gen 1, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

An attractive factor in Realme Book Prime would be Harman speakers tuned by the DTS Audio technology. Buyers may also get a 720p webcam to take HD calls, which means better quality for your virtual meetings. The Realme Book Prime is likely to come with a backlit keyboard and a fingerprint sensor embedded into the power button.

Now, in a new development, Realme is reportedly going to launch its latest fast-charging solution at the same event as well. Let's find out more.

Details on the Upcoming Charging Technology

Realme hasn't provided a lot of details regarding the upcoming charging technology that it will introduce at the event. Although the company has informed that it will be the fastest charging technology announced so far across the globe. The company had also earlier introduced its 125W UltraDart fast charging technology that was capable of charging a 4000mAh battery in under 20 minutes. Here are the details regarding the new charging technology that Realme is expected to introduce at the MWC 2022.

With Realme announcing the latest charging solution to be unveiled at the MWC 2022, it is being speculated that the company could introduce the much talked about 150W charging solution. Despite any official confirmation, the rumoured reports inform that the brand is planning to debut its own 150W charging technology that will be based on Oppo's 160W fast charging tech.

The GT 2 Series is Coming

Apple Might Debut its M2 Chipset in 2022 Along With Four iMacs

Posted: 21 Feb 2022 05:13 AM PST

Apple M2 Chipset

There have already been reports about the wide-ranging products Apple is planning to launch this year ranging from new iMacs to new PCs and even new smartphones. Now, in a new development, the latest report states that Apple will be introducing its M2 chipsets in 2022 as well. This report falls in line with yet another report from Bloomberg which also says that the company will be launching four new iMacs this year along with Apple Silicon's M2 chipset.

New iMacs Will Come With M2 Chipsets

Apple has already stated that the company will be finishing its Apple Silicon transition within the next couple of years and therefore, it is expected that a lot of new Mac models could arrive in 2022. It is expected that the company will be launching the 13-inch MacBook Pro, a 24-inch iMac, and a completely redesigned MacBook Air in 2022. Users can expect all these devices to come with the new M2 chipsets as currently, they make use of the M1 processors.

Not much is known, however, when it comes to the upcoming Apple Silicon's M2 chipset. Speculations suggest that the M2 chipset will be a tad bit faster than its predecessor. The chipset might actually arrive with the same eight-core architecture but it is likely that it will receive a graphics core increment from seven or either to nine or 10. Moreover, Apple could also introduce the pro and MAX versions of the chipset next year just as it did with the M1 chipset and could also debut its M3 processors.

It has also been reported previously that Apple is gearing up for its first virtual media event of 2022 where the company could be introducing a new Mac. The rumours suggest that the virtual event will take place on March 8 but nothing has been confirmed by the company. The rumoured March event could witness the launch of a high-end Mac Mini along with the new iPhone SE and more. Apple could also possibly release a teaser for its highly anticipated Apple Silicon Mac Pro.

5G to Boost Enterprise Revenues for Telcos

Posted: 21 Feb 2022 12:57 AM PST

5G

5G networks are going to boost the enterprise revenues for the telcos. Indian telecom operators right now majorly depend on the B2C (business to consumers) segment of the market for revenues. But as 5G networks become a common part of India, their enterprise business will also start growing. All the telcos, including Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), are into providing services to enterprises.

5G Network Use Cases Suggest Enterprises Will Get More Benefits than Normal Consumers

The use cases that the 5G trials in India have suggested so far hint that 5G will be of more use to the enterprises than the normal consumers. Normal consumers can manage their internet demands with a decent 4G network as well.

Airtel and Vi are particularly very focused on their enterprise business. Both of these telcos offer a ton of services to the enterprises through their sub-brands, Airtel Business and Vi Business.

5G would enable things such as private 5G, network slicing, and more which the communication service providers (CSPs) can leverage to offer innovative services to enterprise clients. The use of augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) will make space for more next-generation applications to make space for themselves with the added support of 5G networks.

Even the industry experts have said before that 5G networks are primarily going to be used by enterprises. Normal consumers, on average, don't need to use very highly demanding data applications on the go to require 5G speeds. Most of the users who need such speeds install a fiber broadband connection in their home and have 4G data for basic browsing whenever they are outside their homes.

The telcos will be happy only at the end of the day that a new revenue stream for them will open up. 5G networks should proliferate the growth of enterprises in their digital journey and bring innovative solutions to the table.

Vodafone Idea Debt Conversion: Govt to Hire Advisor

Posted: 21 Feb 2022 12:25 AM PST

Vodafone Idea

The Indian government is looking to hire an advisor to help with the conversion process of Vodafone Idea's debt into equity. This advisor will aid the centre in determining the amount of adjusted gross revenue (AGR) and deferred spectrum payments which need to be converted into equity for the government.

For the unaware, Vodafone Idea (Vi) had earlier announced that it would be opting for the option to convert the dues into equity for the government. Tata Teleservices had also said the same; however, later, the company walked out of its decision. Thus, Vi is now the only private telecom services company in which the government will have a stake in. We are not talking about a small stake, though.

According to the estimates shared by Vi, the Indian government will get a 35.8% stake in the company, which would then be more than what any other individual promoter holds.

Government to Do Own Math for Vodafone Idea Equity

According to a Mint report, the Indian government will be hiring an advisor to aid with the debt to equity conversion of Vodafone Idea. The centre is planning on doing its own math with regards to how much equity it should get in the company. This will take a bit of time as an external advisor from the firms chosen by the Department of Investment, and Public Asset Management (DIPAM) will be included too.

Regardless of the kind of stake, the government will hold in the company; it won't turn into a public sector unit (PSU). The Government of India (GoI) had issued a statement saying that it has no plans of converting Vi into a PSU and it will look to sell its stake when things stabilise for the company.

The telco posted an average revenue per user (ARPU) figure of Rs 121 in the December quarter, which is slightly more than what it posted for the previous quarter (Rs 119). With the full impact of the tariff hikes in Q4 FY22, the ARPU of the telco will surely go up. However, at the same time, Vi's ARPU is expected to be very much behind its competitors, including Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.

Airtel

Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in the country, has just announced that it has joined the SEA-ME-WE-6 undersea cable consortium. This will help the telco in scaling up its high-speed global network capacity for serving the digital economy of India.

Bharti Airtel will be a major investor in the SEA-ME-WE-6 and will anchor 20% of the overall investment in the cable system. The cable system will go live in 2025.

SEA-ME-WE-6 to be Fully Integrated With Nxtra

With the help of SEA-ME-WE-6, Bharti Airtel will be able to 100 Tbps capacity on its global network. The telco released a statement saying it will land the SEA-ME-WE-6 cable system in the country at new landing stations in Chennai and Mumbai.

The SEA-ME-WE-6 will be fully integrated with the data centres of Nxtra, a subsidiary company of Bharti Airtel. It is worth noting that just a few minutes back, Reliance Jio also announced that it would land the IAX undersea cable system in the Maldives. The IAX will be ready for service by the end of 2023.

Reliance Jio, India's number telecom operator will land the next generation multi-terabit India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) undersea cable system in Hulhumale, Maldives. Because of this, Hulhumale will directly connect to the world's major internet hubs in Singapore and India.

Uz Fayyaz Ismail, Minister of Economic Development, said that this will open up vast opportunities for the people in the Maldives by providing them with a high-quality, secure, and affordable internet experience.

Ismail further said this will diversify the economy as it will enable the Maldives to become one of the key hubs in South Asia.

Mathew Oommen, President, Reliance Jio, said the company is very pleased to work with the government of Maldives.

IAX will support the explosive growth in data demand expected from the new initiatives being launched by the government of Maldives, added Oommen.

IAX System Originates in Mumbai

For the unaware, the IAX system originates from Mumbai in the west and connects directly to Singapore with branches including additional landings in Thailand, Malaysia, and India. IAX is expected to be ready for service by the end of 2023.

Airtel Offers This Prepaid Plan With Bumper Data Benefits

Posted: 20 Feb 2022 09:00 PM PST

Airtel

Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in the country, offers a prepaid plan with bumper data benefits. The plan that we are talking about is suitable for anyone who relies primarily on their 4G network for consuming data for working and other things and requires a ton of data every day. Well, actually, there's not one but two such plans available, and the great thing about either of these plans is that they come with over-the-top (OTT) subscriptions bundled for the users for no additional cost. Let's take a look at what these plans are and what benefits they come with.

Bharti Airtel Prepaid Plans With Bumper Data Benefits

The first plan on the list is the Rs 599 plan. This is not a plan meant for every user and comes with a very short validity of 28 days. If you are wondering why this plan is so expensive, here are the benefits it comes with. Users get 3GB of daily data, unlimited voice calling, 100 SMS/day, and a free subscription to Disney+ Hotstar Mobile worth Rs 499. Then there are Airtel Thanks benefits bundled as well. The contents of Airtel Thanks are mentioned at the bottom part of this article.

The second plan on the list is the Rs 699 prepaid plan which comes with 56 days of service validity. This plan also offers 3GB of daily data, unlimited voice calling, and 100 SMS/day with Airtel Thanks benefits. However, the validity of this plan is 56 days instead of the 28 days offered by the Rs 599 plan. There's a free subscription to Amazon Prime bundled with this plan.

Airtel Thanks benefits offered by both the plans include Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition trial for one month (not offered by the Rs 699 plan as it already includes Amazon Prime membership), Wynk Music, Shaw Academy, FASTag cashback, and more. You can also check out 3GB daily data plans from Reliance Jio and Vodafone Idea (Vi).

BSNL to Offer 4G Services by Using Monopole Initially

Posted: 20 Feb 2022 08:14 PM PST

BSNL

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is targeting to launch its 4G services in multiple parts of the country this year. The state-run telco has selected Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as its technology partner for the same. Both the companies are working together to deploy India's first homegrown 4G network. This will also mark the entry of TCS into the telecom equipment manufacturing business.

Sushil Kumar Mishra, Director (Consumer Mobility), BSNL, said the telco would make use of monopoles initially rather than the smart towers for delivering 4G network services in India. This is because monopoles are cost-effective and also work really well.

BSNL to Build 1 Lakh Telecom Towers

BSNL has planned to build 1 lakh telecom towers across India, said Mishra, reports TOI. Out of this, the telco will be eyeing to install over 4000 towers in Bihar alone.

Mishra also said that BSNL would be providing 4G services in Mumbai and Delhi too. The state-run telco could launch its 4G networks by the Independence Day of 2022, which is August 15. It is the same timeline that the telecom minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, mentioned about the launch of 4G networks of BSNL.

Vaishnaw had said that BSNL will be making 4G equipment orders by April this year and will also 4G networks by August or September 2022.

Right now, BSNL is working with C-DoT (Centre for Development of Telematics) and TCS to conduct the 4G trials. The trials were supposed to finish by February 15, 2022, but no news has arrived on that front yet. Since it is February 21 already, it is safe to assume that the companies haven't been able to get success yet.

The Indian government wanted BSNL to launch homegrown 4G instead of what the private operators did by partnering with foreign equipment manufacturers. This will also help BSNL with building a foundation to launch homegrown 5G networks.

TRAI Recommendations on 5G Spectrum to Determine Govt Revenue from Auctions

Posted: 20 Feb 2022 06:43 PM PST

TRAI

The recommendations that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) will give for the 5G spectrum auctions will largely determine the kind of revenue that the government will make in the coming financial year. As for the current financial year, the centre is surely going to make more than its estimates. For this year, the budget estimates from the telecom sector was Rs 53,986 crore, but the revenues may go up as high as Rs 71,959.24 crore. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has already collected Rs 69,559 crore as of February 3, 2022.

Coming Financial Year Budget Estimates Set Lower by the Centre, Earnings to be Much More

K Rajaraman, telecom secretary, told PTI that the earnings from the telecom sector would be significantly higher than the budget estimates, but an exact number can't be given at the moment. It is because the revenues would heavily depend on the kind of recommendations that the TRAI gives on the pricing of the spectrum.

As soon as the TRAI recommendations are in hand, the centre can make an estimate about the kind of revenue that will be generated from the telecom sector.

It is worth noting that the telecom operators wanted the 8% license fee (LF) to be scrapped as it also includes 5% of USO (Universal Obligation Service) fund obligation and the remaining 3% of the license fee. Instead, the telcos had requested the government to only charge 1% LF of their adjusted gross revenues (AGR). However, nothing of this sort was announced at the recently held budget for FY23.

The TRAI is currently working on the recommendations for 5G spectrum auctions and is likely to submit them to the DoT by March-end or earlier. Based on that, the government will take a few months and hold a 5G spectrum auction for the private telcos and possibly the satcom players. It will be interesting to see how the pricing is set for different bands as the telcos wanted huge reductions.
