| Bharti Airtel ARPU Climbs to Rs 163, Subscriber Churn Dips Posted: 08 Feb 2022 04:03 AM PST
Bharti Airtel has just announced its quarterly financial results for Q3 FY22. The second-largest telco in India saw a very marginal increase in the total subscriber base in its India business, but the good thing is that the churn rate reduced to 2.9% as compared to 3% in the September quarter. Airtel's average revenue per user (ARPU) from its mobile business in India has jumped to Rs 163 during the December quarter from Rs 153 in Q2 FY22. However, Airtel has posted a dip in ARPU from its Home Services in Q3 FY22. From Rs 661 in Q2 FY22, the telco's ARPU from Home Services has fallen to Rs 657 during the previous quarter. The same was the case with the Direct-to-Home (DTH) business. Airtel's ARPU from its DTH services fell to Rs 146 in Q3 FY22 from Rs 148 in Q2 FY22. Bharti Airtel's Net Profit Down to Rs 830 Crore in Q3 FY22During the quarter, the telco's net profit dipped 2.8% YoY to Rs 830 crore in December FY22 from Rs 854 crore in December FY21. While the ARPU for Home Business fell, the overall revenues were up 40.4% YoY, led by strong customer additions. The B2B segment of the company, Airtel Business, reported 13.4% YoY growth in revenues. There was a growth of 29.9 million in the number of 4G users YoY and 3 million QoQ to reach 195.5 million. As of December 2021, Airtel's 61% of the mobile customers were 4G users. The ARPU jump of Rs 10 despite the fact that the prepaid tariff hikes were implemented only in the last month of the quarter suggests strong acceptance of the new tariffs. Out of the entire mobile customer base, 94.6% of users were prepaid, and the remaining were postpaid users. Gopal Vittal, MD and CEO, Bharti Airtel, said that the company is generating healthy free cash flow now, which has enabled it to pay the spectrum liabilities to the government, resulting in a reduced interest burden. |
| Semiconductors Availability for Smartphones and Automobiles Expected to Improve in 2022 Posted: 08 Feb 2022 03:30 AM PST
Smartphones and automobiles supply in the country is going to get better as the supply chain constraints of the semiconductors are expected to ease out according to the chip designers from the second quarter of 2022. The availability of the semiconductors for smartphones is being speculated to start balancing out over the next couple of months whereas semiconductors for automobiles will see an improvement in supplies by the end of this year. Semiconductor Demand in IndiaAccording to a report from ET, the VP and President of Qualcomm India and SAARC, Rajen Vagadia said in a statement that the importance of remaining connected in a hybrid with the same efficiency as in office was realised because of the pandemic. He said that increased demand for cameras, audio devices, phones, laptops were going to pivot the supply chain. The rating agency ICRA in a report said that the availability of semiconductors for both consumer electronics and automobiles is bound to improve as the chip makers are working continuously on tailoring production to demand, optimising capacity utilisation and investing in expanding operations. However, the automobile manufacturers could lose about 500,000 units in sales because of chip shortage in the FY22, as per ICRA. This is equivalent to about Rs 1,800 – Rs 2,000 loss in sales opportunity. Although the upcoming 5G spectrum auctions and the rollout of services in FY23 comes at the same time when semiconductor supply restrictions will ease will bring relief to the automobile manufacturers. Vagadia informed that the introduction of 4G made audio streaming possible and automakers started including more features in their cars and hence, increasing the number of chips used in the automobile. The introduction of 5G will ensure further enhancement in the overall vehicle experience which will also require a larger number of chips. The arrival of the Internet of Things (IoT) and 5G technology in India is expectedly going to take the demand for semiconductors in India to up to $100 billion by the year 2025 as per the industry estimation. Vagadia also added that the Rs 76,000 crore PLI scheme introduced by the government for manufacturing semiconductors and display boards is a step in the right direction which will make India a part of the global value chain. |

Multiple reports have been surfacing regarding the Redmi 10 (2022) smartphone for quite some time. Redmi 10 (2022) is expected to arrive this year; however, no official confirmation has been made regarding the launch date of the device. Now, in a new development, Redmi 10 (2022) has supposedly been spotted at the Geekbench benchmarking site. The listing provides some intel regarding the specifications of the handset. Previously, Redmi 10 (2022) was spotted in a US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) listing. Details on the Upcoming Redmi 10 (2022)The new report comes in from MySmartPrice, according to which a handset with model number 21121119VL has been spotted on Geekbench which is being speculated as the Redmi 10 (2022). If the rumours are true, then according to the Geekbench listing, the device was able to score 367 points and 1,253 points in single- and multi-core tests, respectively. The listing also reveals a few specification details of the device. It suggests that the handset is powered by a 1.8GHz octa-core ARM MT6769H processor. It is to be noted that this is a codename for the MediaTek Helio G88 chipset. Moreover, the listing suggests that Redmi 10 (2022) will have up to 4GB of RAM and will operate on Android 11 out-of-the-box. As far as the previous spotting of Redmi 10 (2022) on the US FCC certification website is considered, the device was listed with the model number 22011119UY which is a tad bit different from the one spotted on Geekbench. The US FCC listing provided storage configuration for the upcoming device. According to the listing, Redmi 10 (2022) will be available in two storage options – 4GB RAM + 64GB internal storage and 4GB RAM + 128GB internal storage. The upcoming Redmi 10 (2022) was also spotted at multiple other certification sites back in November such as Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) certification listings, IMDA, TKDN, SDPPI, and TUV Rheinland. The smartphone was also spotted with model number 21121119SG which could mean that the handset could have three possible variants, however, nothing is confirmed. The reports have suggested that the handset could launch with a triple rear camera setup headlined by a 50MP primary camera along with an 8MP sensor and a 2MP sensor. All the mentioned details hint towards the fact that the smartphone could come with similar specifications as Redmi 10 launched last year. |

| Airtel Results Preview for Q3 FY22: ARPU Jump and Subscriber Addition Expected Posted: 08 Feb 2022 12:18 AM PST
Bharti Airtel, India's second-largest telecom operator, is soon going to come out with financial and performance results for Q3 FY22. The telco's average revenue per user (ARPU) is surely going to see a boost due to the prepaid tariff hikes implemented during the quarter. Further, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) report suggests that Airtel added new users in November 2021 and the same is expected for the month of December as even Vodafone Idea (Vi) went for tariff hikes which resulted in the subscriber churn rate increasing for the telco. Vi customers either ported out to Jio or Airtel. But at the same time, Airtel results should show a significant drop in revenues quarter-on-quarter (QoQ). This is because of the one-time spectrum sale which took place in the September quarter to Jio, which aided the overall revenues. No such gain was there in the December quarter. Mobil Business Revenues Expected to GrowThe mobile business revenues of the telco should grow on the back of the prepaid tariff hikes. This would also help with increasing the ARPU for Airtel, which is already the highest in the industry. The full effect of prepaid tariff hikes will only be evident in Q4 FY22. The last quarter of FY22 would determine the pattern in which Airtel's customers are leaving or joining the network (most probably, it should be the latter). Along with this, the broadband business of the company is expected to grow as Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is losing its fixed-line market share to private operators. Bharti Airtel's bundled service – Airtel Black is something that is worth watching out for. The telco has purposed the service in a way that would help with adding more customers to its ecosystem, retaining the old ones, and earning more out of each of them. The capex of the telco should also increase as, during the last quarter of the year, the economy had opened up a little. |

| Google Pixel 6 Pro Available in India for Different Prices Posted: 07 Feb 2022 07:39 PM PST
Since Google hasn't officially launched the Pixel 6 Pro for the Indian market, multiple sellers have independently listed the device on Amazon India to fill the gap and take advantage of the demand. Not just the Pixel 6 Pro, but the seller – 'Worldwide_Store', has also listed the Pixel 6 smartphone on the platform. Different sellers are selling for different price. However, the only issue is that there is no strong case that these sellers can be trusted. The Google Pixel 6 Pro is available in different colours and in different prices for the same storage model. It all comes down to which colour do you want and what are you ready to pay for it. The number of reviews are too less to determine whether these products are original or not. Google Pixel 6 Series Listed in India is UnlockedAll the sellers claim that the device is unlocked, giving users the flexibility to change carriers as per their wish. The Pixel 6 Pro is one of the best Android smartphones in the world right now, and it runs on Android 12 out of the box. There are exchange offers available which can give you a discount of up to Rs 15,000. Users also are getting bank discounts of up to 10% on credit cards and EMIs. Google doesn't plan on bringing the Pixel 6 and the Pixel 6 Pro in India, and thus this might be the only choice for users who want to purchase the smartphone within the country. But these sellers can't be trusted blindly. Note that since this device isn't being sold by Google directly, you won't receive the updates on time. You will only receive them whenever the vendor of the device releases them for you. Since the device is being claimed to be carrier unlocked, there's no reason why Jio, Airtel, Vi and BSNL SIMs can't work on it. However, proceed with caution if you are buying this device from Amazon. |
