| Xiaomi 12 Ultra Could Top DXOMARK Again Posted: 10 Mar 2022 06:20 AM PST
With the official announcement for Xiaomi 12 series to be launched globally, questions around Xiaomi 12 Ultra are bound to arise. A recent report suggests that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra could actually be postponed to the second quarter of 2022 due to some unspecified reasons. Now a new report from a renowned tipster suggests that the device may receive some changes in specifications while the overall design will remain almost the same. Let's find out more. New Details on Xiaomi 12 UltraThe report comes in from Digital Chat Station which had also previously shared some rough sketches of what the Xiaomi 12 Ultra could look like, revealing a large circular camera module positioned in the centre of a segment spanning across the top part of the phone. Three cameras were also visible in the shared image which is most likely going to be a wide-angle main camera, an ultra-wide-angle secondary camera, and finally a periscope telephoto lens. Moreover, it has been reported that Xiaomi has possibly joined hands with Leica for the development of the camera system of the phone, so we wouldn't be surprised if it tops DXOMARK once again. As far as the display is considered, Xiaomi 12 Ultra is expected to be a 2K OLED display from Samsung with a centre-aligned punch-hole camera. The device is expected to feature fast charge technology with wired charging being 120W and wireless being 50W. Yesterday, Xiaomi took on its Twitter handle to officially announce the launch date for the Xiaomi 12 series. Xiaomi 12 Series will be launched worldwide on March 15 at 20:00 GMT +8 via a virtual event. The series is expected to consist of Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12X and Xiaomi 12 Pro smartphones. There's also a slight possibility that the brand might introduce the much-awaited ultra-model of the series at the launch event. Another device that could be a part of the series is the rumoured Xiaomi 12 Lite. There has been no announcement for smartphones launching in India as of now. |

| Vodafone Idea New Smartphone Offer to End on March 31, 2022 Posted: 10 Mar 2022 04:25 AM PST
Vodafone Idea (Vi) is offering customers something similar to the 2G customers in its subscriber base that Airtel is offering to all of its customers. We are talking about a cashback offer on the purchase of new smartphones. Vodafone Idea is trying to incentivise 2G users into upgrading to 4G as fast as possible. The telco said that it will offer Rs 100 cashback every month to the eligible customers for the next 24 months. This means a total of Rs 2400 in cashbacks over the period of two years. It is a limited time offer that will end on March 31, 2022. Check what it is and how you can benefit from it if you are a 2G customer. Vodafone Idea Idea Smartphone Cashback Offer DetailsTo be eligible for the cashback, the 2G handset customer must upgrade to a 4G smartphone during the offer period. Not just this, the user also needs to recharge with any prepaid plan of at least Rs 299 or above for the next 24 months to keep getting the cashback. The recharge must also be made through the Vi app for redeeming the cashback coupon to get a discount of Rs 100 on every recharge. The offer will be applicable only once per mobile number. Further, any handset that has already been utilised for the offer can't be used to avail it again in the future. The cashback coupons of Rs 100 that are offered to the customers only have a validity of 30 days and will expire post that period, if not used. Vi said that if the user doesn't recharge with an eligible plan, he/she won't get the cashback coupon. The offer was rolled out by the telco on December 18, 2021, and will stay in place till March 31, 2022. It is very similar to what Airtel is doing with its smartphone cashback offer. It is unknown how many 2G customers took the offer and upgraded to a 4G smartphone. |

| Redmi 10 Launch Date in India Announced Posted: 10 Mar 2022 12:23 AM PST
Redmi has just announced the launch date of Redmi 10 in India. It is going to be yet another budget smartphone from the company taking over the successful Redmi 9 series. In a release, the company said that Redmi 10 is going to be 2x faster than the Redmi 9. The device will make its way to India on March 17, 2022. Xiaomi had teased the launch of the Redmi 10 at the unveiling event of the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G series on Wednesday. Now, the company has confirmed the arrival date of the Redmi 10 in India. Redmi 10 Prime Made Debut in 2021Last August, Xiaomi launched the Redmi 10 Prime in India. But the company didn't reveal any of the other Xiaomi 10 series devices during the event. The company hasn't teased any specifications about the device yet. It hasn't even appeared on any of the certification websites yet. However, it is worth noting that the Redmi 10C has been spotted at the IMEI and FCC websites. Thus, there's a strong chance that the Redmi 10 launching in India is none other than the Redmi 10C. Xiaomi had done the same with the Redmi 9 in India. The company had launched the global Redmi 9C as Redmi 9 in India. Thus, if the company does the same again, that won't be a surprise for anyone. Rumours online suggest that the smartphone might arrive with a 6.53-inch HD+ LCD display with standard 60Hz refresh rate support and might be powered by an octa-core MediaTek chipset. Further, the device might carry a 5000mAh battery and house a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL primary sensor at the rear. Again, none of these details is confirmed yet, and some teasers should arrive from Xiaomi as the launch date of the device is not far from now. Redmi 10 Prime 2022 might also arrive during the event. You can also check out the Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G series, which launched recently, by clicking here. |

| ACT Has a Super Affordable 1 Gbps Broadband Plan Posted: 09 Mar 2022 11:31 PM PST
ACT Fibernet is one of the leading commercial internet service providers (ISPs) in India. The fiber broadband company is only present in select regions and cities of the country. ACT offers consumers multiple options to choose from when it comes to the home fiber internet connection. The highest speed plan offered by ACT is the 1 Gbps speed plan. With ACT Fibernet, one thing that a consumer must keep in mind is that the price of the plan differs from city to city. Today, we are going to look at a very affordable 1 Gbps broadband plan from ACT. Check the details below. ACT Fiber Affordable 1 Gbps PlanACT offers its 1 Gbps speed broadband plan for a monthly rental of Rs 1,999 only. This is half the price of what Jio and Airtel are offering their 1 Gbps plan to the customers. Note that the tax will be added to the final invoice, which will increase the price of this plan by 18%. While the company says that users get unlimited data with this plan, the truth of the matter is there's a fair-usage-policy (FUP) limit applicable. With this plan from ACT, users get 3.3TB of monthly data. It is more than a decent amount of data for any regular consumer. There are some additional benefits bundled with this plan, such as ZEE5 Premium free trial for one month, Cult.fit trial for one month, and more. Both JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber are offering their 1 Gbps broadband plans to users for Rs 3,999 per month, which is Rs 2,000 more expensive than what ACT is offering to its users. This 1 Gbps plan from ACT is called 'ACT GIGA' and is available in Delhi. As mentioned above, the plans from ACT differ from city to city; thus, this plan might not be available in other cities such as Bengaluru, Mumbai, and more where ACT offers internet services. |
| Bharti Airtel to Take Up 9% Stake in Avaada CleanTN Project Posted: 09 Mar 2022 10:29 PM PST
Bharti Airtel, a major telecom company in India said that it is going to take up a 9% stake in Avaada CleanTN Project Private Limited. Avaada Clean TN Project is a special purpose vehicle formed for the purpose of owning and operating the Captive Power Plant, said Airtel in a BSE listing on Wednesday. The cost of acquisition of the same for Bharti Airtel will be Rs 7,88,51,500. The telco will be taking up an aggregate of 7,885,150 equity shares in the company for Rs 10 each and would own a 9.012% stake. Bharti Airtel Focusing on Green Power SupplyBharti Airtel is focusing on building a large capacity for green power supply. The company took a strategic stake in Avaada which is engaged in commission, setting up, operating and generating of power or electricity supply through renewable sources such as hydro, biomass, geothermal, wind, co-generation, and more. The telco's shares are 1.22% up from the previous close price, trading at Rs 700 (at the time of writing). On Thursday, stocks of other telecom companies including Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) are up too. Airtel is investing heavily in green energy supply. Earlier this year, the telco's data center subsidiary, Nxtra had commissioned a 21MW solar power unit in Maharashtra. It is worth noting that the captive power plant, which is spread over 80 acres was set up by Airtel in partnership with Avaada. Thus the companies have been working together for a long time and this acquisition from Airtel makes more sense. Bharti Airtel is committed to reducing absolute scope 1 and scope 2 Green House Gas (GHG) emissions across its operations by 50.2% by the financial year (FY) 2031. Airtel is counting FY21 as the base year. In addition to this, Airtel is also committed to reducing the scope 3 GHG emissions by 42% in the same time period. This acquisition will certainly help Airtel in reaching its commitment. |
| DTH Sector Can Only Grow by Befriending OTT Posted: 09 Mar 2022 09:01 PM PST
Direct-to-Home (DTH) operators have slightly been sidelined by the popular over-the-top (OTT) platforms. Most of the broadcasters have their own OTT apps too with a freemium business model where a lot of content that people have to pay for to watch on TVs is free. For the last few months, the subscriber churn rate for the DTH operators has been high and stagnant. There are very limited DTH operators in the country and all of them have a different strategy for acquiring and retaining customers. But there's one DTH operator which is heavily investing in OTT services and it is Tata Play (earlier known as Tata Sky). Bharti Telemedia is also offering access to OTT platforms with Airtel Xstream Premium and the Xstream Box, but it is nothing like what Tata Play is offering. OTT Platforms are the Future of Quality Content, DTH Needs to Find a Way InTata Play is bundling OTT platforms’ subscriptions with a normal channel pack for Binge+ Set-Top Box (STB) users. This is a great strategy by the company which will ensure that people don't need to overpay for getting access to all the channels and the OTT platforms. Moreover, the DTH player has also started bundling Netflix subscriptions with its OTT Combo channel packs. Tata Play understands the future of content is in OTT platforms. While there's no doubt that DTH platforms have some channels that users can't get on any OTT platforms in the world, it won't be long before OTT players start incorporating a TV-like service for their users directly on their smartphones, laptops, tablets, and even TVs. DTH sector can't look at OTT as its enemy right now. Instead of trying to be ahead of each other, both segments of the entertainment industry can grow together by strategic partnerships. There's still a long way to go for OTT to reach every part of the country where DTH already is because of less fiberisation and no internet in many areas. Hopefully, in the near future, all the DTH players can offer something like what Tata Play is offering to customers with OTT combo packs. |
| Apple iPhones Dominated Best Selling Smartphone Category in 2021 Posted: 09 Mar 2022 08:30 PM PST
Apple had a pretty good 2021 in terms of sales and overall performance. The demand for iPhones grew, and because of that, Apple was able to dominate in the best selling smartphone category in 2021. Out of the top 10 best selling smartphones in the world, Apple's iPhones took seven positions. The top five devices were all iPhones. The data from Counterpoint Research suggests that Apple iPhone 12 was the best selling smartphone amongst all the devices on the list. The iPhone 12 had a 2.9% share in the global top 10 best-selling smartphones 2021 list. iPhone 12 at Lower Price Became an Ideal Option for Users
The iPhone 12 became the best selling smartphone as it not only saw a reduction in price but wasn't also much different from the iPhone 13. The second device on the list was again an iPhone 12 series model — iPhone 12 Pro Max, which took a 2.2% share. At number 3, 4, and 5 were iPhone 13, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 11. Surprisingly, iPhone 11 was still in great demand in 2021. Even in India, you can still get a brand new iPhone 11 from e-commerce platforms. At number 6 was Samsung Galaxy A12, a budget smartphone with decent specifications. Xiaomi Redmi 9A took the seventh position, another budget 4G smartphone. At number 8 and 9, again there were two iPhones — iPhone SE 2020 and iPhone 13 Pro Max followed by Xiaomi Redmi 9 at the tenth position. The recently launched iPhone SE 2022 or the iPhone SE 3 is also expected to make a lot of noise in the market. The iPhone SE 3 is powered by the A15 Bionic SoC coupled with up 4GB of RAM and comes with a single 12MP camera sensor at the rear. The iPhone SE 3 starts at Rs 43,900 in India. It is strange to see that none of the Chinese companies or Samsung smartphones could make it in the top 5 list. This is big evidence of how much people trust Apple if they are spending big money on smartphones. |

| Tata Play, Jio, Excitel and More Semi-Annual Broadband Plans Posted: 09 Mar 2022 05:37 PM PST
The Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer a variety of broadband plans to suit the need of their subscriber base. Some of the ISPs not only provide the plans with different pricing and benefits but also offer different validity periods. For users, who are looking to invest in long term plans, ISPs offer quarterly, half-yearly and annual plans which can actually cost less than monthly plans, however, a lump-sum amount has to be paid. In this article, we are going to take a look at a few of the select high-speed half-yearly broadband plans offered by ISPs such as Tata Play, Jio, Excitel and more with benefits that come along. Tata Play Fiber 200 Mbps PlanIndia's one of the most prominent service provider Tata Play Fiber Broadband offers a half-yearly subscription with all its broadband plans. The 200 Mbps plan from Tata Play Fiber is actually cheaper but doesn't offer any added benefit such as subscriptions to OTT platforms. Jio's 150 Mbps PlanOne of the bestselling semi-annual plans from Jio is its 150 Mbps plan. JioFiber offers a 150 Mbps broadband plan at a cost of Rs 5,994 for six months. | Semiconductor Startup Inputs Have Not Been Made Costlier: Finance Minister Posted: 09 Mar 2022 05:05 AM PST
The Finance Minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman in a statement on Tuesday elucidated that the government has not increased custom duty on components or intermediary items. She particularly talked about the startups in the semiconductor or allied sectors that make use of these components or intermediary items as their primary input. She further went on to explain how the government visited the duty structure at an interaction with citizens on the Atma Nirbhar Economy which the BJP Karnataka unit had organized in Bengaluru. Let's find out more. The Accusations of Price Hike of ComponentsRecently, some of the startups, in particular, those in the semiconductor and the related sectors have shown concerns that some critical components that they use as inputs will now become expensive. Denying all these suggestions the finance minister explained that the idea of the Atma Nirbhar campaign is not to make goods produced using imported components more expensive. She added that the government cannot make it expensive and that the guiding principle of the Atma Nirbhar campaign is to build capacities in India, scale-up production and make imports costlier of those products that are made and available in India. Sitharaman talked about the accusation she faced after the recent union budget which claimed that she has hiked customs duties on some products because of which they have become costly. Justifying these accusations, the finance minister stated that wherever duties have gone up, the government has done it consciously only in cases where those products are available locally. Moreover, the government had very carefully applied its mind wherever it has changed the customs duty structure. Bringing in the production linked incentive (PLI) schemes in the context, she informed that the government has identified 14 sectors as champion sectors. She added that the said incentives are necessary to provide enough ground for people to come out of China and invest in India. Furthermore, the PLI applies to areas where India has good advantages which includes sectors that are scalable, the products of which have a demand and market in India, and where jobs can be added. The finance minister added that the government is working on bringing in newer areas where the future lies within the PLI ambit. |
| iPhone SE 2022 a Very Good Option for Long-Term Use Posted: 09 Mar 2022 04:20 AM PST
Apple recently launched the iPhone SE 2022 and is also availing the device for pre-orders from March 11, 2022, in India and select other countries. While many expected the smartphone to start from $299, it didn't really happen. In India, Apple has launched the iPhone SE 2022 or the iPhone SE 3 for a starting price of Rs 43,900 with 64GB of internal storage. Complete price details are mentioned at the bottom. While it may seem a little too much to some users because of what they are used to getting with the Chinese Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs), it can be a value deal for a lot of Indians. If you don't understand why – hear me out. iPhone SE 2022 Is Not a Flagship But Brings a Lot of Premium to the Table
The iPhone SE series by Apple isn't supposed to be a flagship smartphone lineup. Apple trims down multiple features and specifications from its flagship smartphones and packs it in a small-sized iPhone to make it more affordable for the users and calls it iPhone SE. The iPhone SE 2022 can be a great option for you because a) it is an iPhone; b) it naturally has better resale value than Androids, and c) again, it is an iPhone. An iPhone is a status symbol in India. It is not just like a regular smartphone; it is a vital key to entering the ecosystem of Apple. While every Chinese company is also trying to make an ecosystem for their users, Apple's just class apart and way ahead. If you have a Mac product or an iPad, and then you also get an iPhone, you won't understand what hit you. This is the kind of experience Apple products can bring users. Apple's been trying to make user experience across products seamless by connecting all of them in the best manner possible. Further, if you want to get your hands on the Apple Watch, arguably one of the best smartwatches in the market, you need an iPhone. But if you have been holding back until now because the iPhones are too expensive, well, here's an iPhone for you that brings premium and a little bit of flagship for you at a much more affordable price than the iPhone 13 series. iPhone SE 3 or the iPhone SE 2022 is Powered by Flagship A15 Bionic
The iPhone SE 3 or the iPhone SE 2022 is powered by the same chipset that powers the iPhone 13 series from Apple. The A15 Bionic is a powerful 5G processor with a top-in-class performance which makes the iPhone SE 2022 a very powerful smartphone. Apple said that due to the flagship chipset, users could take better pictures, and the battery efficiency has also gone up significantly. The iPhone SE 2022 will run on iOS 15 out of the box and will be able to support sub-6 GHz (2×2 MIMO) 5G connectivity. In the camera department, there's a single 12MP sensor at the rear, which can take really beautiful pictures. The camera of the smartphone supports Smart HDR 4 and Deep Fusion which makes photography and recording videos with the iPhone SE 3 an ultimate experience. The iPhone SE 2022 comes with a 4.7-inch Retina HD display which will feel ultra-smooth because of the power that the A15 Bionic chipset brings to the table. Compared to the graphics performance of the iPhone SE 2nd generation, this new iPhone SE is 1.2x better. Note that the iPhone SE 2022 or the iPhone SE 3 also comes with the IP67 rating, which makes the smartphone water and dust resistant. But the key highlight of the iPhone SE 3 is the Home Button at the chin with Touch ID. The era of home button smartphones has long gone, but a Home Button in an iPhone is more than just a button. It's a whole vibe! iPhone SE 2022 Price in India and Should You BuyThe iPhone SE 2022 or the iPhone SE 3 is available in India in three memory variants: a) 64GB for Rs 43900, b) 128GB for Rs 48900 and, c) 256GB for Rs 58,900. The smartphone will be available for pre-order from March 11, 2022, in India. It will come in three colours — Midnight, Starlight, and Product Red. Whether you should buy or not is something I would refrain from commenting on before the smartphone reviews are out. |
