| Jio Disney+ Hotstar Premium Plans Breakdown, Are They Worth It Posted: 11 Mar 2022 07:10 PM PST
Reliance Jio had recently introduced two new prepaid plans for its users with which a Disney+ Hotstar Premium subscription is bundled. Jio is the only telecom operator in the country which is offering a Disney+ Hotstar Premium subscription with its prepaid plans. The other telcos which offer Disney+ Hotstar only offer its Mobile subscription to the users. The Premium subscription costs Rs 1499 per year, while the Mobile subscription costs Rs 499 per year. With the Premium subscription of Disney+ Hotstar, users can watch content in up to 4K resolution on four screens at the same time. But with the Mobile subscription, users can only watch content on one screen (mobile) and at low resolution. Let's do a breakdown of the two Disney+ Hotstar Premium prepaid plans from Reliance Jio and see whether they are worth it or not. Reliance Jio Disney+ Hotstar Premium Packs DetailsThe first plan on the list is the Rs 1499 plan. With this plan, users get 2GB of daily data for 84 days (meaning a total of 168GB of data), unlimited voice calling, and 100 SMS per day with Jio apps and Disney+ Hotstar Premium for one year. As mentioned above, the usual Disney+ Hotstar Premium subscription comes for Rs 1499 for one year. Here, for the same amount from Jio, you are not only getting the Premium subscription but also a prepaid pack with 84 days validity and 2GB of daily data, which normally costs Rs 719 from the telco. So with this plan, users are getting multiple things all at a very low cost. Further, there will be a JioMart cashback involved as well if the user recharges with the official MyJio mobile app. Moving on to the second plan, which comes for Rs 4199, users get up to 3GB of daily data with unlimited voice calling, 100 SMS/day, and Jio apps. Further, there's a Disney+ Hotstar Premium pack bundled at no extra cost. This plan comes with a validity of 365 days. This is the only 3GB daily data pack offered by the telco, which comes with a validity of one year. If you deduct Rs 1499 (cost of Disney+ Hotstar Premium) from Rs 4199, you are essentially paying Rs 2700 for a 3GB daily data prepaid plan for 365 days. Just to compare, a 2GB daily data prepaid plan from Jio for 365 days comes for Rs 2897. Even with the Rs 1499 plan, users get a JioMart Maha cashback. |

Lets' take a look. OnePlus Nord 2 CE Lite Design DetailsThe report comes in from 91mobiles which has shared early renders of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite courtesy of an industry source. | WhatsApp Web Receives Code Verify Browser Extension – All You Need to Know Posted: 11 Mar 2022 05:12 AM PST
The social media messaging platform WhatsApp keeps bringing new features with its updates that enhance the overall experience of the users on the platform. Now, WhatsApp has introduced a new feature that will improve the security on WhatsApp Web. The new feature is called Code Verify which will act as an additional layer of security. Code Verify essentially is a browser extension that verifies the authenticity of the WhatsApp Web code being served to the browser. The code helps to check whether the users' WhatsApp code has been tampered with or altered. It makes sure that you get the same WhatsApp Web experience as everyone else. The Need for Code Verify FeatureThe Code Verify feature has been created by WhatsApp in partnership with Cloudfare which is a web infrastructure and security company. WhatsApp via a blog has shared that Code Verify is capable of independent, third-party, transparent verification of the code that is being served to the WhatsApp Web users. WhatsApp in its blog stated that WhatsApp has protected the personal messages users send on WhatsApp Web with end-to-end encryption as they transit from sender to recipient. And therefore, it is necessary to make users feel confident while sending messages on WhatsApp Web as well. The blog further informed that, unlike a downloadable mobile app, a web app is usually served directly to users, without a third party reviewing and auditing the code. Therefore, factors like a browser extension, which do not exist in mobile platforms weaken the security of a web browser. The blog further read that since the mobile app space was built after the web was created, the security guarantees offered on mobile can be stronger, particularly given that third-party app stores review and approve each app and software update. Hence, Code Verify has been launched to change the existing situation as it will bring more security on the WhatsApp Web. For those wondering about Code Verify, it's a web extension that works with all browsers including Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Firefox. Once added to the browser, it verifies the code that the browser gets from WhatsApp Web. The extension automatically gets pinned to the FireFox and Edge browser, however, it needs to be manually pinned on Google Chrome. |
| iPhone 12 mini vs iPhone SE 3: What Should You Buy Posted: 11 Mar 2022 04:24 AM PST
Apple came out with the iPhone SE 3 or the iPhone SE 2022 recently. The smartphone is currently in the slightly more affordable range as compared to the iPhone 13 series devices. But then there is the iPhone 12 mini, which launched in 2020 and runs on A14 Bionic SoC. However, it is slightly more expensive than the iPhone SE 3 right now. Many people believe that the iPhone 12 mini is a better choice than the iPhone SE 3, and some believe the opposite of this. Thus, let's take a look at which device is actually better today. Big Question of 5G With the iPhone 12 mini and iPhone SE 3The iPhone SE 3 runs on A15 Bionic SoC, while the iPhone 12 mini runs on the previous generation A14 Bionic. What's worth noting here is that both are 5G supportive. The difference between both chips is in the power and performance they bring into play. Apple's website says that iPhone 12 mini can support 5G in India. iPhone 12 mini vs iPhone SE 3: Better Camera?iPhone SE 3 comes with a single 12MP primary sensor at the rear with improved photography because of the chipset, says Apple. However, don't forget that the iPhone 12 mini also has an ultra-wide-angle camera too. This is not there in the iPhone SE 3. iPhone 12 mini vs iPhone SE 3: Display ComparisonThe iPhone SE 3 retains the design of the iPhone 8 series. Thus, it comes with 4.7-inch, which is much smaller than the iPhone 12 mini display, which comes with a 5.4-inch display. Thus, looking at anything on the iPhone 12 mini might feel better in comparison to the iPhone SE 3. iPhone 12 mini vs iPhone SE 3: Price in IndiaOne thing that you should know about both smartphones is that both are excellent devices in their category, and both can be a perfect option for long-term use. The design of the iPhone SE 3 is old and thus might feel more like a home to the people who are currently using the iPhone 8 series devices. But the iPhone 12 mini is a compact and powerful smartphone with a slightly more modern look. The iPhone 12 mini starts at Rs 49,999 in India (Flipkart) for the 64GB variant, while the iPhone SE 3 starts at Rs 43,900 for the 64GB variant. Thus, there's a big price difference between both smartphones too. However, under the exchange offer, you can reduce the price of these devices significantly. If you are thinking of buying either of these, you will probably end up with a device that's more or less very good in experience as both are seriously good performers. Well, it's a little too early to say that about the iPhone SE 3 as the reviews are not out yet, but there's no doubt that it will also be a beast in performance. |
| Vodafone Idea Talking With Nokia to Replace Huawei 4G Gear: Report Posted: 11 Mar 2022 03:47 AM PST
Vodafone Idea (Vi), one of the major telecom operators in the country, is reportedly in talks with Nokia, a Finnish telecom gear vendor, to replace Huawei 4G gear from its networks. Nokia might replace Huawei's 4G gear in some parts of the country. It will be one of the biggest swap deals for Nokia in India. Nokia Might Deploy 12,000 5G Ready Sites, 4,000 Small Cells for Vi in CapitalAccording to a Reuters report, Nokia might deploy 12,000 5G ready sites and 4,000 small cells for Vodafone Idea (Vi) in India's capital, New Delhi. India is reducing its dependence on Chinese companies for telecom needs rapidly. The Modi Government's Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission is at full flow, and that is the reason none of the telcos partnered with the Chinese vendors during 5G trials. Huawei and ZTE were completely ignored by the telcos during the 5G trials in India. However, Huawei still believes that it has a bright long-term future in India. Regardless, the company has had to lose a lot of business globally. Apart from India, the United States of America and the European countries have said that they are not going to include Huawei in their future plans anymore. It is worth noting that India hasn't explicitly banned Huawei from doing business with the telecom operators. But, India now has a trusted list of gear vendors, and the government hasn't included Huawei in that trusted list. Huawei officials are hopeful of a better outcome for the company in India in the long term. For now, there's no new business for Huawei in the sub-continent nation. Nokia already has expertise in replacing Huawei gear as it has done that already in international markets for major telecom operators, including BT, Proximus, and Orange Belgium. Huawei had dominated the Indian and international markets for a very long time. However, now the company is being ignored, and the European vendors, including Nokia and Ericsson, are getting to do more business because of that. |

The company has been riding a wave of strong growth as it has already been rivalling the American manufacturer Qualcomm in some of the past quarters and now with the recent introduction of MediaTek Dimensity 9000 chipset in its portfolio, the revenue has boosted even further. Let's find out more. The Current StatisticsTalking just about the month of February this year, the chipmaker managed to generate 40 billion Yuan in revenue which is roughly 6.32 billion US Dollars. This is up by 23% in comparison to the same time frame last year. In addition to this, the company has also revealed its estimate for the first three quarters in 2022. The company's CEO Cai Lixing informed that the rise in MediaTek's revenue can be credited to the better penetration of the brand's 5G chipsets alongside the launch of its new flagship 5G SoC, the Dimensity 9000. For those unaware, MediaTek Dimensity 9000 is the latest high-end flagship chipset from the company which will be featured in the premium smartphones and rivals against Qualcomm's latest and most powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen1 chipset. Cai Lixing also estimates that MediaTek is most likely to surpass the 20% mark when it comes to the annual growth rate. Talking about a previous report, MediaTek's annual revenue reached NT $493.4 billion which is about $ 17.6 billion in the year 2021 according to a financial report. | Mobile Phone Towers Will Now be Allowed on Top of the Government Buildings Posted: 11 Mar 2022 02:00 AM PST
The report comes in from Gurgaon where the telecom operators will very soon be allowed to set up mobile phone towers on government buildings and land across the city. A meeting of the district telecom committee was held chaired by deputy commissioner Nishant Yadav on Tuesday where this decision was taken. This move will not only help in reducing the number of complaints against mobile towers from residential areas but also generate additional revenue for the government. Why on Government Buildings?According to a report from ET Telecom, Nishant Yadav who chaired the committee said in a statement that it was brought to the notice that installing mobile towers on private properties involves a lot of effort. Due to this reason, the decision has been taken to allow telecom operators to install mobile phone towers on government buildings which will also help raise additional revenue for the government. He further informed that city magistrate Darshan Yadav has been asked to prepare a list of government buildings and sites and share it with the telecom companies. In addition to this, to allow MGC to check the legal status of the mobile phone towers, the committee has also directed all the telecom companies to submit the details of all mobile phone towers in the city within a week. It is to be noted that the telecom operators have three months to regularise their unauthorised mobile phone towers. An estimation suggests that Gurgaon has around 2,000 mobile towers and applications for over 700 more are currently pending with the district administration. The license fee for a mobile phone tower is around Rs 1 lakh per year. Yadav informed that the mobile towers will be sealed if the telecom operators fail to legalise their mobile phone towers within the stipulated time. It has also been instructed to all the departments to resolve the issues related to the pending applications of mobile phone towers in a time-bound manner. Raman Mallik who is a member of the committee informed that the plan is to enhance the service of mobile networks and the internet in Gurgaon with zero pendency, zero illegality and no revenue loss to the government. |
| BSNL 4G: the State-Run Telco Can Make a Huge Difference Posted: 11 Mar 2022 01:11 AM PST
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is going to launch 4G networks in India with homegrown network equipment. This will be a proud moment for BSNL as well as India. Jio, Airtel, and Vodafone Idea (Vi), the private telecom operators, couldn't do this. But it will also prove to be slightly most costly for BSNL. Regardless, BSNL is setting a precedent here. Not just for itself but also for the private telcos. The Indian government's goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat is going to get a huge boost from this move. BSNL and TCS have already completed the core-network trials. The companies are currently conducting trials for the radio networks. This should also complete within a few days now. BSNL Can Make a Big Difference With Its 4GNot only will BSNL's 4G be secure and homegrown, but it will also give Indians one more option for 4G from the three private operators. Right now, almost all the telcos offer mobile services for the same amount of money. But with BSNL, users will get one more option and that too at a lower cost possibly. The more the private telcos keep on raising tariffs, the better it will be for BSNL. According to the IT and telecom minister of India, the state-run telco is expected to make the order for 4G equipment in April. BSNL already added new users in December 2021 when all the private telcos had raised tariffs of prepaid plans. The ultimate goal for BSNL right now would be to rollout 4G as fast as possible and start making some money so that it can grow its capex aggressively. BSNL's 4G is expected to launch by August or September. It is no problem that BSNL isn't launching 5G services right now. There's still a lot of money to be made with 4G. Millions of Indians are still using legacy network services, and thus getting them to upgrade to 4G will be a good challenge for the telcos. But BSNL, with its lower tariffs, can make a big difference in the lives of legacy network users when they switch to 4G. |
| Redmi Watch 2 Lite Review: Class and Affordability Packed Together Posted: 11 Mar 2022 12:18 AM PST
The Redmi Watch 2 Lite isn't like any other smartwatch in the affordable segment. It is unique and offers a powerful experience. Let me walk you through what this smartwatch is capable of doing. Redmi Watch 2 Lite Review: Body and Design
The Redmi Watch 2 Lite comes with a 1.55-inch square dial with the edges slightly bent that gives a premium feel whenever you look at it. The smartwatch has a single button on the right which can be used to activate the device if it is in sleep mode and can be further used to access the main menu and for going back to the home screen. This one button brings a lot of convenience to the user experience; at least, it did for me.
I have the Blue colour variant, which is pretty cool and fresh as I was sort of bored by going with the black option repeatedly. But if you want a black colour variant of the Redmi Watch 2 Lite, it is also available in Black as well as Ivory colour.
The silicone strap sits perfectly around my wrist. I am not going to lie – I have used many smartwatches in the affordable as well as the premium segment, but never has a smartwatch fitted my wrist better than the Redmi Watch 2 Lite. I don't know why it is, but the strap lock along with the hook – I love how perfectly and smoothly it sits on my wrist. It is very light in weight (35 grams only); thus, you won't feel it as a liability on your wrist but will look at it as a beautiful accessory. The sensors are, of course, at the bottom of the watch dial, and there's a magnetic charging port too. Xiaomi bundles the charging cable inside the box, which can be connected with any USB charging brick. The Redmi Watch 2 Lite looks very stylish and subtle at the same time. You can easily wear it to any party, gym, or even the office. Redmi Watch 2 Lite Review: Display
The Redmi Watch 2 Lite comes with a 1.55-inch TFT or 3.94 cm colourful HD display. The screen is pretty decent for the price range and is very responsive. It can support a maximum brightness of 450nits, again not a bad stat. The one thing that I really liked about the display of Redmi Watch 2 Lite is how compact it is and how beautiful the colours are. Out of the short experience that I have had with this smartwatch, the display never went unresponsive and is as smooth as it could have been.
You can just press the button on the right, and the main menu with all of the watch features and settings would come right in front of you in boxed icons. This is more convenient than swiping up and down to see different options again and again that you have to do with certain smartwatches.
When you swipe down from the top, a notification panel drops where you can see all the notifications that have arrived on your smartphone. When you swipe up from the bottom, you get access to a number of icons that lets you change the settings of the smartwatch. Then, on swiping left or right, you will get access to different data such as SpO2 reading, heart rate reading, and more. Overall, I am quite satisfied with the display experience and performance of the Redmi Watch 2 Lite. Note that you can get over 120 watch faces, which is pretty cool. Redmi Watch 2 Lite Review: Activity Modes, Other Features and Performance
The Redmi Watch 2 Lite supports tracking of 100 workout modes. Some of these also include professional modes such as HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) and Yoga. It can support up to 17 professional activity modes, which is an amazing thing. The Redmi Watch 2 Lite automatically tracks the calories you are burning and the number of steps you are taking in a given day. I am someone who likes to keep track of how many steps I am walking or running in a day because most of my work involves sitting or just standing in a particular place. Thus, to ensure that I am moving enough, I like to track the steps and hit my goal of around 8000 steps a day. The Redmi Watch 2 Lite tracks the steps beautifully for me and, most of all, accurately. There are a ton of activity modes such as outdoor running, walking, treadmill, trekking, trail run, outdoor cycling, indoor cycling, freestyle, pool swimming, open water, elliptical, yoga, rower, jump rope, hiking, HIIT, triathlon, kayaking, and more recreational activities.
You can take the Redmi Watch 2 Lite comfortably for swimming because it is 5ATM rated, meaning it is water-resistant up to 50 metres. It has a 262mAh battery which Xiaomi claims can run up to 10 days. While I haven't used it for ten days now, I am pretty sure with heavy usage for workouts and all-day stress tracking; the battery performance would drop down by two to three days. This is not a bad thing necessarily; it is normal. I used this smartwatch for tracking my workouts, and here's the feedback I have. The Redmi Watch 2 Lite can automatically track the activity when you are working out. The only thing is, I am a little divided about the automatic tracking feature of the smartwatch.
When I was walking, it was around after 400 meters (approximately) of continuous walking that the smartwatch was able to detect that I was walking and asked me whether this was a walking workout to track the activity. The same happened with running on a treadmill; the smartwatch took its sweet time before recognising that I was running. I understand from this that it could be a deliberate move from the company to delay the request for tracking the workout by automatically detecting the activity. This could be because a user might get a little annoyed if he/she kept getting activity tracking requests even when they walked 100 meters inside their house or office. But I think 400 meters is a little too long to intelligently detect the activity and request for tracking. It is not a bad feature, just personally; I would have wanted it to happen faster; not too fast, but not too slow either. However, if you are manually activating tracking for a certain activity, you shouldn't be worried about this, as the Redmi Watch 2 Lite can accurately track your movements. I also feel like ending a workout is a slightly longer procedure than it should have been with the Redmi Watch 2 Lite. Whenever you are trying to end an activity, the smartwatch would ask you to keep the 'end' button pressed for about three seconds, which is a hassle, to be honest. If I am out of breath and just want to relax by ending the workout right away, I don't want to wait and hold the end button for three seconds. Maybe Xiaomi can reduce the time by half for pressing the button and holding it for ending the workout.
Note that the smartwatch comes with a stress tracker, SpO2 tracker (for measuring blood saturation levels), and heart-rate tracker.
Redmi Watch 2 Lite Android Mobile App Review
First of all, in Android, when you search for Xiaomi Wear on the Google Play Store, you will get the 'Mi Fitness' app. This is what you will have to download, so don't get confused. It is a very cool app once you sign in and pair your smartwatch. Pairing is a straightforward process and will happen seamlessly.
I like the overall layout of the Xiaomi Wear app. It has an animated guy on the top with my steps, and calories burned mentioned. Just below it, I can see my latest workout, and if you scroll down further, you can see other data such as stress, standing, VO2 Max, Blood Oxygen levels, and more.
You can also check for updates for the smartwatch inside the app and change the settings of health tracking. It was my first experience with the Xiaomi Wear app, and it was very easy to navigate through the app on Android. Xiaomi Wear is a very aesthetic app overall and brilliantly executed by Xiaomi.
Redmi Watch 2 Lite Review: Price and Whether You Should Buy
The Redmi Watch 2 Lite comes in India for Rs 4,999. It will be available for users starting March 15 across multiple platforms mentioned above. You can get it in Black, Blue, and Ivory colours. Is this smartwatch worth buying? Of course! | OnePlus Has a Big Challenge Ahead of OnePlus 10 Pro Launch in India Posted: 10 Mar 2022 11:36 PM PST
OnePlus, a major Chinese smartphone vendor had launched the OnePlus 10 Pro in China in January 2022. The company is expected to launch the smartphone in India either on March 22 or March 23. But the key thing to note here will be whether OnePlus can swim across the wave of tension that Jerryrigeverything's video had made. In the video we are talking about, the OnePlus 10 Pro broke into two parts completely, failing the durability test miserably. Being an ultra-premium smartphone that will be very expensive, users would be wary of purchasing the OnePlus 10 Pro as and when it launches in India. OnePlus 10 Pro India Launch: Will OnePlus Make Changes to the DesignIt is highly unlikely that OnePlus would make any changes to the design of the OnePlus 10 Pro for the Indian market. But since the China launch took place in January, the company had some time to modify the design. Regardless, it is not just designing, but a lot of other processes and things such as inventory, manufacturing, and more go into building a smartphone. Thus, OnePlus might have to launch the OnePlus 10 Pro in India with the same design. OnePlus has One Big PositiveOnePlus will launch the OnePlus 10 Pro in India with OxygenOS. In Chine, the smartphone was launched with ColorOS. This is something that will work in favour of OnePlus when it comes to increasing sales for the OnePlus 10 series in general. OnePlus 10 Pro is expected to feature the same specifications for the Indian market as it did for the China market. The smartphone might be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen1 SoC and feature the same camera setup as in the China variant. The price details of the OnePlus 10 Pro aren't out yet but it might be priced above the Rs 60,000 figure easily. This time, the OnePlus 10 Pro will be competing with the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, iPhone 13, and more devices. It won't be easy to capture the ultra-premium market for OnePlus. Hopefully, the company has figured out a way to solve this issue. |
| BSNL Has Better Entry-Level Broadband Plan than Airtel, Jio Posted: 10 Mar 2022 09:51 PM PST
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has a much better entry-level broadband plan than Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. All of the three offer broadband plans under Rs 500, but BSNL's plan is much better when it comes to someone looking for the most affordable entry-level option. If you are a student or a person living alone in a house with basic internet needs, you might want to go for a broadband plan that is as affordable as possible. With Airtel, the minimum that you will have to shell out is Rs 499 + 18% tax, and with Jio, you will have to spend Rs 399 + 18%. But BSNL has a broadband plan even cheaper than this, which comes for Rs 329 + 18% tax per month. Let's see what this plan brings to the table for the users. BSNL Rs 329 Broadband Plan DetailsBSNL Rs 329 plan comes with 20 Mbps of speed which is way lower than what the entry-level broadband plans from Jio and Airtel offer. But it makes sense as it is cheaper as well. With this plan, users get 1000GB of monthly data, which is again decent. There's a free fixed-line voice calling connection included which is a great benefit again. BSNL said that it is offering a discount of 90% on the first month's bill to the users for up to Rs 500. This is a great offer for many students who are living alone in flats. It is not a sufficient speed plan if the user wants to stream live or is a content creator of some sort. But it is decent enough for people who want a basic internet connection for as little amount of money as possible. The total monthly cost of this plan would come around Rs 388.22 after the tax is added. This is a decent proposition offered by BSNL. Users looking for a budget broadband plan can certainly benefit from this. |

| Vodafone Idea Loses Case Against TRAI’s MNP Order Posted: 10 Mar 2022 08:20 PM PST
Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest telecom operator, has lost the case against the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India's (TRAI) order for Mobile Number Portability (MNP) which was issued in December 7, 2021. The Telecom Disputes Settlement and Appellate Tribunal (TDSAT), in its order, said that TRAI is well within its powers to issue such an order and doesn't require any interference. TDSAT has said that TRAI's stand is "fair and reasonable". Tariff Hikes Made Porting Out Hard for PeopleWhen the tariff hikes came in December 2021, it made things worse for low paying customers who wanted to port out from their current service provider. The thing is, telcos removed SMS benefits from lower denomination plans, and it meant that low-paying customers couldn't port out. Reliance Jio felt like Vi's plans were the most expensive when it came to SMS benefits. Vi customers recharging with entry-level plans couldn't port out to Airtel or Jio because they didn't have SMS benefits. Thus, to ensure that this problem is resolved, TRAI asked all the telecom operators to allow subscribers to send port out SMS to 1900 regardless of whether their plans have SMS benefit or not. But Vodafone Idea (Vi) had a problem with this order and appealed against it in the TDSAT. But TDSAT has sided with the TRAI's order, reports PTI. However, TDSAT has asked TRAI to give appropriate time to Vodafone Idea (Vi) for the implementation of this order for all its subscribers. This should mean that in the coming days, users can port out of their networks without having the need to recharge with an SMS bundled prepaid pack. This is surely going to hurt Vodafone Idea (Vi) as the telco wanted to retain these customers. Airtel wouldn't mind this order at all as the telco only wants high-paying quality customers to keep its average revenue per user (ARPU) figure higher than its competitors. |
