JioFiber Base Broadband Plan Becomes a Good Deal With Entertainment Plan Extension

Posted: 24 Apr 2022 01:26 AM PDT

JioFiber

JioFiber recently introduced two new extension entertainment options to the base broadband plans. These extensions, aka Entertainment plans, are only available for people who are subscribed to the postpaid JioFiber service. Because of these extensions, now users can get OTT (over-the-top) subscriptions with entry-level broadband plans. This is not something that users will get from the other internet service providers (ISPs).

Why Entertainment Plans With JioFiber Are a Good Thing

Until now, if users wanted to go for OTT bundled broadband plans, they would have to spend upwards of Rs 1000 per month at least (without taxes). This is the case with almost every ISP's offerings.

But with the Entertainment plans, now a user going for the base 30 Mbps broadband plan from JioFiber will also be able to get OTT subscriptions. Further, people on the 100 Mbps broadband plan from JioFiber can also get the Entertainment plans.

What are the Entertainment Plans We are Talking About?

So Jio recently announced the arrival of Entertainment plans with the postpaid JioFiber services. Users can now subscribe to the 30 Mbps and 100 Mbps plans and then also purchase the Entertainment plans to get OTT subscriptions.

There are two Entertainment plans offered by JioFiber. The base is an Entertainment plan for Rs 100, and the other one is the Entertainment Plus plan for Rs 200.

With the base Entertainment plan, users will get subscriptions to six OTT platforms — Eros Now, Lionsgate Play, ShemarooMe, Universal+, JioCinema, and ALT Balaji.

With the Entertainment Plus plan, users will get a subscription to fourteen OTT platforms, including the six mentioned above, along with Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, ZEE5, Hoichoi, Voot, and Voot Kids, Discovery+, and SunNxt.

These plans give JioFiber users going for entry-level broadband plans and also the power to get subscriptions to OTT platforms. Further, JioFiber will also offer Jio Set-Top Box (STB) at no extra cost to the consumers going for the postpaid plans along with the Entertainment plans.

Bharti Airtel 4G Data Only Vouchers Start at Rs 19, Are they Worth It

Posted: 23 Apr 2022 10:38 PM PDT

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in India, offers users 4G data vouchers starting at Rs 19. With these vouchers, users can boost the amount of data they are using daily. If you have a prepaid plan whose FUP (fair-usage-policy) data for the day is exhausted, these 4G data vouchers come in very handy. The good thing is, these vouchers from Airtel are very affordable and start at Rs 19 only. It is worth noting that Jio's 4G data vouchers start at Rs 15. There's not that big a difference, but if you are purchasing these vouchers regularly, then Jio's vouchers might make more sense to you.

Anyway, keeping the focus on what Airtel offers, the base Rs 19 data voucher offers users 1GB of data, and its validity is only one day. So if you don't use the entire 1GB of data in one day, it will expire.

Let's take a look at the other vouchers.

Bharti Airtel 4G Data Vouchers Go Up to Rs 301

The company also offers Rs 58, Rs 98, Rs 108, Rs 118, Rs 148, and Rs 301 vouchers. Some of these vouchers also bring over-the-top (OTT) subscriptions.

The Rs 58 voucher comes with 3GB of data, and its validity is the same as the user's existing prepaid plan.

With the Rs 98 voucher, users get 5GB of data, and its validity is also the same as the user's existing prepaid plan. Note that apart from the base Rs 19 data voucher (1-day validity), all of the other data vouchers from Airtel have the same validity as the user's active prepaid plan.

Users get 6GB of data with the Rs 108 voucher along with a free Prime Video Mobile Edition trial along with free Hellotunes.

The Rs 118 voucher ships with 12GB of data which is double what the Rs 108 voucher is offering to the users.

The Rs 148 pack brings 15GB of data to the table along with a free subscription to Xstream Mobile Pack for the users.

Lastly, with the Rs 301 pack, users get 50GB of data with Wynk Music Premium.

These are all the 4G data vouchers offered by Bharti Airtel. If you want to go for more affordable vouchers, check out what Jio is offering.

Excitel’s 200 Mbps Broadband Plan is Quite Cheaper Than What Airtel and BSNL Offer

Posted: 23 Apr 2022 04:59 AM PDT

200 Mbps Broadband Plans

There are a number of internet service providers (ISPs) in the country which may offer the same broadband plan with different benefits, putting the users in the dilemma of choosing. While popular service providers Airtel offer broadband plans with added benefits of OTT and more, some of the lesser-known ISPs like Excitel actually offer comparatively cheaper broadband plans. In this article, we are going to take a look at the 200 Mbps broadband plans offered by Excitel in comparison to Airtel and BSNL along with pack details.

Excitel's 200 Mbps Plan

Excitel provides broadband connectivity only with 100 Mbps, 200 Mbps or 300 Mbps of internet speed. The 200 Mbps plan from the company is one of the most reasonable plans that offer great value as well. The 200 Mbps plan from Excitel comes at different price tags for different durations as well. Excitel provides users with a 200 Mbps plan for a month at Rs 799. Users can also get the plan for 3 months, 4 months, 6 months, 9 months and 12 months for a monthly cost of Rs 732, Rs 572, Rs 545, Rs 471 and Rs 449 respectively. The plans from Excitel are truly unlimited and no FUP data limit is levied.

Entertainment Pack from Airtel

Airtel has been one of the most prominent players in the market when it comes to providing broadband services. Airtel via its Xstream Fiber connection also offers plans with OTT access starting from the 'Entertainment' pack which provides 200 Mbps of internet speed at a monthly cost of Rs 999 exclusive of taxes. Users get 3.3TB or 3300GB of monthly fair-usage-policy (FUP) data with this plan. Airtel also provides 'Airtel Thanks Benefits' with its broadband plans which in this case include subscriptions to OTT platforms including Amazon Prime and Disney+ Hotstar along with Wynk Music. This is also Airtel's bestselling plan.

200 Mbps Plan From BSNL

The state-owned telco, BSNL via its Bharat Fibre connection offers a Fibre Premium Plus that provides high-speed connectivity speed. Fibre Premium Plus pack from BSNL offers 200 Mbps of speed at a monthly cost of Rs 1,277. The plan offers a 3300GB data limit beyond which the speed reduces to 15 Mbps. Fibre Premium Plus pack from the telco does not offer any OTT subscriptions, however, users can also get a discount of 90% up to Rs 500 on their first month of rent.

Netflix Needs to Understand Market Dynamics, Else Fall is Inevitable: Opinion

Posted: 23 Apr 2022 02:30 AM PDT

Netflix

Netflix stock has suffered a major blow from the loss of 200,000 subscribers during the January – March 2022 period. The over-the-top (OTT) giant is one of the most famous entertainment platforms across the world, yet demand for its services is going down. It is worth noting that stopping services in Russia has also contributed to the fall in subscribers by a significant amount.

Netflix has estimated that it might lose around 2 million more users in the April – June 2022 quarter. The company is trying its fair share of methods to keep users hooked to the platform, but things just aren't working out. It feels like Netflix doesn't understand the different markets it is delivering content in properly.

Netflix Is the Most Premium OTT Platform in India

What a user pays for Netflix in a quarter in India could get him/her yearly subscriptions to multiple entertainment platforms. If you are in India and are getting the premium access of Disney+ Hotstar or Amazon Prime, you would have to pay Rs 1500 for a yearly subscription. However, there's no similar yearly model available with Netflix.

Netflix charges its customers on a monthly basis, and its top-tier plan, which offers content in the best quality, costs Rs 649 per month in India. This is close to 50% of what users have to pay for getting a yearly subscription to other platforms. This is a big issue that Netflix needs to address.

Another big issue with Netflix that I think a lot of people face is the problem of choosing something to watch. While Netflix has made efforts to tell people what's in the top 10 ranks in their country, it isn't exactly solving the whole problem.

There's just so much content inside Netflix that users sometimes can't help but feel overwhelmed about what they can watch. Almost every day, there's something new coming on the platform. A user can't help but wonder what's the cost of the time they are paying for watching something which could have a better alternative on the same platform. For example, if I am watching Ozark, I can't help but wonder, could I have given the same amount of time to another show on Netflix which falls in the same genre.

Now the same problem might come with other platforms, but the issue, particularly with Netflix, is too many alternatives than what most users would like.

To solve this, Netflix started recommending shows to people. This might have worked to a certain extent. But the rise of other OTT platforms with a different content strategy has changed things in the market.

Especially if you have got the Disney+ Hotstar which airs all the Marvel and Disney movies and TV shows along with content from other quality production houses, you wouldn't want to pay so much for Netflix.

Netflix wants revenues to keep coming regularly, but the company can definitely look at a quarterly subscription model, at least if not a yearly one which is slightly more affordable on a monthly basis.

Further, Netflix needs to do something that Disney+ Hotstar is doing. The platform needs more regional content. There's one thing that Netflix did right, and it was to add anime and Korean content. Other platforms are lagging a bit in this regard.

At the end of the day, Netflix is also an old platform. It is something that a lot of users are grown bored of. The platform added Games which, to be honest, aren't the best difference-maker. To compete in a market such as India, where the users are very price-sensitive, Netflix needs to deliver something better and different than what other OTT platforms are doing.

To start with, the company can relook into bringing a new UI (user interface) to its platform. It's a lot of work and involves a huge cost, but it might be a step in the right direction.

The TV shows and movies that are coming into Netflix also need to be promoted better. There are so many titles that have come into the platform that a lot of people are unaware of. This doesn't happen with the shows that are present on other OTT platforms.

Things aren't all bad for Netflix. The OTT giant is still a big and popular platform despite the fall in the number of users. It can make a strong comeback with more regional content, listening to what users want, and offering long-term subscriptions models.

After Sacred Games, Netflix hasn't really delivered a big local TV show or movie in India. This is something that the platform needs to consider and work upon.

Tejas Networks Posts Loss of Rs 50.64 Crore in Q4 FY22

Posted: 23 Apr 2022 12:10 AM PDT

Tejas Networks

Tejas Networks, a major networking products company in India, has posted a net loss of Rs 50.64 crore in Q4 FY22. In Q4 FY21, Tejas Networks had posted net sales of Rs 201.16 crore with a net loss of 33.42 crores. However, during Q4 FY22, the company said its net sales were Rs 125.50 crore, down 37.61% YoY (year-on-year), and net loss was Rs 50.64 crore.

EBITDA (earnings before interest tax depreciation and amortisation) for the company stood at negative Rs 74.80 crore. Despite the poor performance on the financial side, the stock of the company has given solid returns to people invested in it for over a year. In the previous 12 months, Tejas Networks has given a return of 184.40% and 13.02% in the last six months.

Tata Group and Tejas Networks Recently Invested in Saankhya Labs

Saankhya Labs, a wireless communications software company, was recently acquired by the Tata Group and Tejas Networks. A few days back, Tata Group announced that it would be taking a majority stake of 64% in Saankhya Labs for Rs 264 cash consideration, while Tejas Networks would take the rest of 35.60% stake after approval from the boards.

Tejas Networks would be able to provide better wireless offerings to the market in the 5G era through its recent acquisition of Saankhya Labs.

Tejas Networks has been one of the multi-bagger stocks in India for the last year. It is backed by some prominent investors such as Vijay Kedia, who holds 39 lakh shares in the company. The stock of Tejas Networks will certainly be in focus for the coming few months and years as the digital infrastructure of India grows to facilitate the proper rollout of 5G networks and other enterprise services. The company is expected to make better returns in the future. The last quarter of FY22 was a dull one for Tejas Networks because of the global shortage of chips in the global market.

5G Spectrum Reserve Price May Not Go Down in India, Blow to the Telcos: Report

Posted: 22 Apr 2022 11:43 PM PDT

5G

5G spectrum reserve price may not go down any further in India. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has already cut the price of the airwaves for the telcos. But the price cut was unsatisfactory for the telcos.

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) had asked TRAI to revisit the airwaves reserve price and reduce it further. According to an ET Telecom report, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is unlikely going to ask the TRAI to reduce the recommended price of the airwaves any further.

A senior DoT official told the publication that by the end of this week or early next week, the DoT would send its communication to TRAI, and it is unlikely to include any concerns around the reserve price of the spectrum.

DCC to Make the Final Call Before Sending the Matter to the Cabinet

The Digital Communications Commission (DCC) will receive the final set of recommendations that come in response to TRAI. After taking a view on the pricing and other things, DCC will send the recommendations to the Cabinet for final approval.

This is a huge blow to the telecom operators who were expecting further price cuts on the reserve price of the airwaves. For the C-band spectrum (3.3-3.67 GHz), TRAI has recommended a 36% price cut and set the base price at Rs 317 crore.

Further, the regulatory body has cut the price of the 700 MHz airwaves by 40% to Rs 3,297 crore per MHz over its previous recommendation.

A thing that's worth noting here is that TRAI recommended the price on the basis of 20 years. If the telcos want the airwaves for 30 years, they will have to pay 1.5 times the price recommended for airwaves for 20 years.

The industry was looking for a major price cut in line with the global prices for the 5G airwaves. But the government is unlikely to go that way.
