Posted: 14 May 2022 08:56 AM PDT

Realme Watch SZ100

The popular Chinese smartphone brand Realme is going to introduce its Realme Narzo 50 5G series of smartphones in India on May 18, 2022. However, alongside the awaited smartphones, the brand will also launch the Realme Watch SZ100 in India on the same day. The upcoming smartwatch from the company has already been listed on the official Realme India website giving us some intel on the specifications of the device. Let's take a closer look at what we could expect from Realme Watch SZ100.

Realme Watch SZ100 Specification and Other Details

Realme Watch SZ100 from the brand will arrive with a 1.69-inch display with HD resolution. The listing has also confirmed that the smartwatch will feature a unique sensor that enables skin and body temperature monitoring. Not much has been officially confirmed, however, it is speculated that the latest wearable from Realme will come with sports and health-related features.

This means that we can expect the usual heart-rate sensor, a SpO2 sensor for blood oxygen monitoring and more that we find in wearables from the other brands. The device will most probably have the option of choosing from multiple cloud-based watch faces and will have various sports modes – both indoor and outdoor.

The company claims that Realme Watch SZ100 will feature a battery backup that can provide up to 12 days of usage with a single charge. This is quite similar to the previous version of the device – Realme S100 which was introduced last year. Based on this, we can expect that just like its predecessor, SZ100 will arrive with IP68 water and dust resistance rating as well. While there is no official word yet regarding the pricing of the device, we can expect Realme Watch SZ100 to be priced somewhere around Rs 2,000 being a budget device.

Apart from this, the brand is also launching its Realme Narzo 50 series and previous rumours and listings have revealed that Narzo 50 5G handset will arrive with a 6.6 inch AMOLED display with support for a 90Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Dimensity 810 SoC that is paired with a Mali G57 GPU, a dual-camera setup and a 5,000mAh battery with support for 33W fast charging.

PC Market to Witness a Dip in Sales in 2022 Says Prominent Asus Executive

Posted: 14 May 2022 07:43 AM PDT

Global PC Market

The PC market across the globe has witnessed significant growth in the past couple of years during the pandemic, however, the sales have been actually going down this year. So much so that the popular Taiwanese PC manufacturer Asus believes that the PC market could actually witness the supply exceeding demand in 2022. In light of this, Asus has already started preparations to make sure that the company doesn't feel a lot of turbulence in the upcoming trend.

The Current Scenario

A new report from ITHome informs that the Global APAC Chief Marketing Officer at Asus, Mr Rex Lee has stated that the European, Chinese and North American PC market might witness an oversupply in 2022 if the current downward trend in the sales persists. He informed that in such a scenario supply from laptop manufacturers will outpace and exceed the demand of the current global PC market.

Asus in a company press conference informed that it has shifted its strategy to focus on the mid-range premium laptops such as its Zenbook and Vivobook series in order to tackle the oversupply situation and still remain in the competition in the PC market. The latest Zenbook series of laptops from the company has been designed for creative professionals who need a high-quality OLED screen with high processing performance at a comparatively reasonable price tag.

A very good example from the company is its Asus ZenBook 14 OLED laptop which arrives with a 14-inch 2.8K OLED NanoEdge display with support for a 90Hz refresh rate. The display offers a 16:10 aspect ratio along with 550nit of brightness. The laptop from Asus is powered by the 12th generation Intel Core i5-1240P or Intel Core i7-1260P processor.
The processor on the laptop is paired with Intel Iris Xe graphics and comes featuring 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of PCIe 4.0 Performance SSD. The device features a 720p webcam with a privacy shutter along with stereo speakers and Smart AMP. ZenBook 14 OLED operates on the Windows 11 OS and is backed by a 75WHrs battery with 65W fast charging support.

BSNL: Three Prepaid Plans That Provide Great Data Benefits With Long Validity Periods

Posted: 14 May 2022 06:41 AM PDT

BSNL Three Prepaid Plans

The state-owned telecom operator provides some amazing prepaid plans when it comes to data and other benefits, however, in most cases gets overshadowed by the private giants – Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea. In particular, BSNL offers a few prepaid plans that provide a remarkable amount of data for comparatively longer validity periods as compared to the private telcos. Mentioned below are three such prepaid plans offered by BSNL that come with great data benefits along with long validity periods.

The Three Plans

The first on the list is a data-oriented prepaid plan offered by the telco. The plan comes at a price tag of Rs 447 and offers a total of 100GB of high-speed data. Beyond the set limit of 100GB of data, users can access the internet at 80 Kbps of speed. The plan comes with a validity period of 60 calendar days and even though it is mentioned under 'Data Voucher' on the website, it still offers unlimited voice calling along with 100 SMS per day. Along with the STV_447 plan, users can also get a subscription to BSNL Tunes and Eros Now Entertainment Services.

BSNL also offers an STV_499 pack for its users that has a three-month validity period. For Rs 499, BSNL users can get 2GB of data per day for a validity period of 90 days along with unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS/day. This plan does not come with any OTT subscription.

Last on the list is the long-term as well as high data prepaid plan offered by the government-owned telco – BSNL. The prepaid plan called STV_WFH_599 from BSNL comes at a price of Rs 599 and offers 5GB of data per day. Post the usage of the set data limit, users can enjoy the internet at 80 Kbps. Moreover, the validity period of this plan is 84 days. Users also get truly unlimited calls and 100 SMS per day in Home LSA and national roaming including while roaming in Mumbai and Delhi. The plan also offers a subscription to the Zing streaming platform which allows users access to thousands of songs, movies and other entertainment content. Another benefit this plan includes is that users can get unlimited free night data from 00:00 hours to 05:00 hours.

Google Pixel Watch Speculated to Arrive With a Four Year Old Exynos Chipset

Posted: 14 May 2022 06:38 AM PDT

Google Pixel Watch

Google recently introduced its Google Pixel Watch during the Google I/O 2022 developer's conference. The device is the first smartwatch from the company and has been in rumours for quite some time. The company will officially launch the smartwatch about six months from now and we only know so much about the device when it comes to the specifications. However, a new report might give us some ideas about the processor to be featured in the upcoming watch from Google. Let's find out.

Will Pixel Watch be Worth it?

According to a report from 9to5Google, the Google Pixel watch might arrive with an Exynos processor launched in 2018. The publication based on the intel revealed by its sources states that Pixel Watch might come featuring the Samsung's Exynos 9110 chip released about four years ago. It is the same chip which first arrived with the Samsung Galaxy Watch in 2018.

Previous rumours suggested that Google is planning to use the Samsung Exynos W920 processor in its smartwatch which could have been definitely a better option instead of a four-year-old chipset from a discontinued smartwatch. While it is disappointing to know that the processor on the Pixel Watch isn't top of the line, Google might actually compensate with the software in the device.

The company has informed that the watch will run on an enhanced Wear OS UI with more fluid navigation and smart notifications. It is not a surprise that Google decided to create a unique user experience on its own devices instead of other smartwatches and hence, we will be able to see some striking from the other Wear OS models.

Moreover, Google Pixel Watch can also be used as a remote for compatible smart home devices using the Home app for Wear OS. So now you can very simply turn lights on or off from your wrist or adjust your thermostat. In addition to these, the Pixel Watch will offer continuous heart rate and sleep tracking. Using the Find My Device app users can also locate their misplaced Pixel phone, earbuds, or any other supported devices on a map available on their wrist. Google hasn't revealed the price of the Pixel Watch as of now but has announced that it will be available for sale in the US this fall.

Poco M4 5G Review: a Satisfying Budget Smartphone Experience

Posted: 14 May 2022 04:33 AM PDT

Poco M4 5G

Poco last month announced the Poco M4 5G in India. It is a budget 5G smartphone promised to deliver a strong performance regardless of what the user is doing. I have used the device for two weeks now, and I have nothing but good things to say about this smartphone. The Poco M4 5G is everything a user can ask for in the budget segment; let me explain why.

Poco M4 5G Body and Design Review

Poco M4 5G

The Poco M4 5G is an absolute beauty. I have the Poco Yellow variant of the smartphone, and frankly speaking, it’s one of the most elegant looking devices in the budget segment. Yes, it comes with a polycarbonate back, so it won't feel the best on touch, but you can't ask for anything more than this in the budget segment.

The smartphone has a very big camera bump at the rear, which is sort of like what we saw on the Pixel 6 series. The black glass camera bump goes well with the Poco Yellow colour, though. The Poco branding is in the camera bump on the far right, while at the bottom left, there's a small 5G print to signify that it is a 5G smartphone.

Poco M4 5G

At the bottom, there's a USB Type-C port along with a speaker. There's nothing on the left side of the body except for the SIM tray. Poco has added the volume rockers and the power button on the right side of the device. Note that the power button also acts as the fingerprint sensor, which, I must say, is pretty fast! For people who love using wired earphones, there's a 3.5mm audio jack as well on the top.

Poco M4 5G

I personally love the camera rings at the back. They are big and bold on top of black glass, which feels very premium to me. The Poco M4 5G will seriously stand out amongst other devices. It is definitely a unique looking smartphone for me.

Poco M4 5G Display and Sound Review

Poco M4 5G

The display has become one of the most important factors for users of a smartphone today. A faster display with a higher refresh rate has been in demand even by budget device users.

The Poco M4 5G comes with a 6.58-inch FHD+ display which can support 90Hz of refresh rate and 240Hz of the touch sampling rate. The device comes with support for intelligent refresh rate switching between 30Hz, 60Hz, and 90Hz to save battery. Further, there's Gorilla Glass 3 on top to protect the screen from external damage.

There's a tear-drop notch on the top of the screen, which houses the selfie sensor. It wouldn't bother you much as the device has an excellent display experience. At the price range that the Poco M4 5G is selling, I would any day be happy with getting a display which is as large as 6.58-inch and can support FHD+ resolution and 90Hz of refresh rate.

Even under the sun, the display's max brightness is good enough to watch and read content on the screen. I dig the colours on the display of the Poco M4 5G. The response is just amazing for anything I am doing. Watching high-res videos won't be a problem with this one. The viewing quality is comfortably good.

But it is the sound output I just have a slight issue with. It isn't the loudest. I get it; you can't expect the best of the best from a budget device. But I would have loved it if the sound output was better than what it is actually delivering right now. Regardless, let's move to the performance of the smartphone.

Poco M4 5G Performance and Battery Review

Poco M4 5G

Poco M4 5G does heat up when you put it to the test. While playing heavy games and continuous multi-tasking, the device became pretty hot. For the unaware, the smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC.

This particular chipset was meant to be put in a budget smartphone. However, it is quite an old chip for 2022. The Redmi Note 10T also packs the same chip. But in terms of performance from a budget smartphone, it is still a satisfactory one.

In honest words, the Poco M4 5G has been a class act for being a budget smartphone when it comes to performance. Look, it won't be the best at beating a mid-range device, but it will certainly be one of the best in the budget segment.

It is a 5G smartphone and can support the following 5G bands – 5G SA: N1/N3/N5/N8/N28/N40/N78, 5G NSA: N1/N3/N40/N77/N78

Poco M4 5G

I would like to put your focus on the MIUI 13 for a bit. The device boots on Android 12 based on MIUI 13 out of the box. It is flawless. It is cleaner than I have ever experienced MIUI OS to be. Xiaomi did focus on elevating the customer experience by delivering a seamless OS experience without any bloatware. You will find some Xiaomi apps and Google apps but nothing else that can't be uninstalled.

The Poco M4 5G is backed with a big 5000mAh battery and support for 18W fast-charging. Honestly, I wish the charging was around 30W, but then it would have raised the cost of the device. Poco is bundling a 22.5W fast-charger inside the box with the device.

The battery backup is excellent. If you charge the device once completely in the morning, you can comfortably use it for the entire day without worrying about charging it again.

Now, let's see how the camera of the smartphone is!

Poco M4 5G Camera Review

Poco M4 5G

The Poco M4 5G comes with a stable camera experience. It won't offer much, but enough for being a budget smartphone. The Poco M4 5G has a dual-camera setup at the rear with a 50MP primary sensor and a 2MP depth sensor. At the front, there's an 8MP sensor for selfies and video calling.
The picture quality from the camera of the device is decent enough. I wouldn't expect anything more in the camera department from Poco with this budget smartphone. Take a look at the pictures below yourself. Note that the images are compressed to be put on the website, and the original quality is at least 50% better than this.

Poco M4 5G Price and Conclusion

The Poco M4 5G comes in two memory variants. The first variant comes with 4GB+64GB for Rs 12,999 and the second one comes with 6GB+128GB for Rs 14,999. The RAM can also be expanded virtually by 2GB with the 6GB RAM variant. (I had the 6GB RAM variant for review). There are bank offers available, too, which you can get on Flipkart. The device is also available in Cool Blue and Power Black colours.

In my honest opinion, the Poco M4 5G can be a good partner for you if you want a budget smartphone that can comfortably last for up to 3 years and more. It can support a number of 5G bands which makes the device future proof as well.

COAI Happy With Launch of Gati Shakti Sanchar Portal

Posted: 14 May 2022 01:32 AM PDT

COAI

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) is happy with the launch of the Gati Shakti Sanchar Portal by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT). A couple of days back, TelecomTalk reported about the website of Gati Shakti Sanchar Portal going live. On May 14, 2022, the portal has been officially launched by the telecom department.

This portal will act as a one-stop window for the telecom infrastructure companies along with the telecom service providers (TSPs) for getting RoW (Right of Way) clearances. The basic aim of launching the portal is to ensure that RoW applications are cleared fast so that optical fiber deployment across the country can pick up the pace.

COAI Says This New Portal Will Help With Digital India Vision

Lt. General, Dr. SP Kochhar, Director General, COAI said that this portal will help with the government's vision of a digital India.
With 5G around the corner, there will be a lot denser infrastructure required in India to deliver seamless connectivity services to people living around the country. Right now, RoW applications are not approved in time for the telcos and the ISPs (Internet Service Providers) so that they can roll out connectivity services in new parts of the country.

5G will require the use of street furniture for deploying small cells. In addition to this, more and more tower sites will have to be deployed by the telcos along with laying optical fiber by the ISPs for providing fixed-line broadband services.

Applications for all of this will now be available on the Gati Shakti Sanchar Portal. Further, through this portal, everyone will be able to access and see how many applications are pending at a given time. This will bring transparency and hold the authorities accountable if they are lazy in their work.

Further, the ecosystem members and service providers will also be able to track their requests in a better way.

Apple Could Replace Its Lightning Connector Next Year With USB Type-C

Posted: 13 May 2022 09:15 PM PDT

Apple Lightning Connector

Apple iPhones are one of the most popular smartphones across the globe, however, if you had to put a finger on something that doesn't really work anymore might be the company's in-house built lightning connector. Currently, most of the products from Apple including iPads, MacBooks and Mac PCs come with at least one USB Type-C Port for connectivity. iPhones on the other hand are still stuck with the lightning connector, with AirPods cases also being stuck with the port.

Time for Lightning to Go

However, new revelations suggest that these scenarios might change very soon and as early as next year. Known analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has said that Apple might introduce an iPhone model with a USB Type-C port instead of the lightning connector in the year 2023. This would mean that iPhone 15 series could feature at least one model that will have a USB Type-C connectivity option.

If Apple does drop the lightning connector for iPhones, it would automatically mean that the AirPods or any other major Apple product after that will also feature the USB Type-C connectivity and could finally be the end of the much-disliked lightning connector. Although, the decision to drop the lightning connector isn't really being taken entirely by the company.

European Commission has been forcing Apple to drop its proprietary lightning connector as the EU wants to reduce e-waste and is also pushing for a "one-cable solution." EU is pushing for the motion in which one protocol works for pretty much everything people own and has announced recently that USB Type-C would be that "one protocol."

This means that the Cupertino-based tech giant knows it has very limited time and is definitely working on a USB Type-C Port and if Ming-Chi Kuo is correct, an iPhone model with USB Type-C could indeed be launched in 2023. There have also been rumours of Apple dropping the ports altogether which might actually be true. That would mean that Apple could introduce its iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max devices with only wireless charging technologies. Either way, we can confirm that the Lightning connector from Apple is going away very soon.

Broadband Plans With Half-Year Subscription That Provide Great Value For Money

Posted: 13 May 2022 06:41 PM PDT

Vodafone Idea Plans to Achieve ARPU Target of Rs 250

Posted: 13 May 2022 06:42 AM PDT

Vodafone Idea

Vodafone Idea (Vi) is looking to reach an average revenue per user (ARPU) figure of Rs 250 in the medium to long-term, said Ravinder Takkar, CEO, Vi. The company's management has a target ARPU of Rs 200 in the short term while Rs 250 is for the long term.

During Q4 FY22, Vi reported its ARPU to be Rs 124, up by 7.8% QoQ with the support of tariff hikes implemented in December 2021. Now, to reach that ARPU goal of Rs 200 in the short-term and Rs 250 in the long term, the telco needs a few more rounds of prepaid tariff hikes.

But it's not exactly going to be a walk in the park for the telco.

Vi's Annual Payments Likely to Increase Up to Rs 40,000 Crore Once Moratorium Period Ends

According to an ET Telecom report, Citi Research said that Vi has a total spectrum/AGR liability of Rs 1.8 lakh crore, which implies annual payments of Rs 40,000 crore after the moratorium period ends. To meet this humongous liability, Vi would require a steady cash flow from the business.

Thus, the number of 4G subscribers the telco adds over the next few quarters will be very important for the investors. As of now, Vi has the lowest number of 4G users on its network amongst the operators which offer PAN-India 4G service.

Thus, the telco will be looking to earn more and more out of its premium customers. To even reach Rs 200 levels of ARPU, Vi would require multiple tariff hikes. To reach the Rs 250 level, the telco would require a majority of its subscribers to opt for the most premium plans. That is why growth in the 4G subscriber base is of utmost importance for Vi.

The telco currently has 118 million 4G users, which is very less compared to what Airtel and Jio boast in their books. Vi's management is also counting on the conversion of legacy network users to 4G services which will also aid in improving ARPU.

Twitter, the world's biggest micro-blogging platform, has been in the spotlight since the time Elon Musk, the world's richest man, took a stake in it. Soon after, Musk sought to purchase the entire company for $44 billion. But now, the deal has been put on hold temporarily. The same has been confirmed by Elon Musk through a tweet made on Friday.

The reason cited by Musk for the hold was the pending investigation on the spam or false accounts present on the platform.

Twitter

Twitter Worried About Several Risks Before Deal With Musk Closes

The deal between Twitter and Musk would not happen in a day, a week, or even months from now. It will take a long time for the legality of the deal, along with the other details surrounding it, to be addressed.

Thus, until the time this deal is closed, Twitter is worried about several risks it has already faced, one of which is whether the advertisers would continue to spend with the company. There's a big uncertainty looming around the future of Twitter and this has made the company nervous for its business.

According to a Reuters report, Twitter revealed in a filing that it had less than 5% spam accounts on the platform during the first quarter. The data was revealed by Twitter after Elon Musk had tweeted that one of his top priorities after taking over the company would be to remove spam bots from the platform.

For now, the deal has been put on a temporary hold. But the stock of Twitter and Tesla both are suffering majorly. Tesla's stock has gone down by 16% so far to $728 this week. Twitter's stock was also 9.5% down at $45.08 at the closing bell on Thursday.
More is expected to be revealed by the company about future plans and the Elon Musk deal in the coming days.

Reliance Jio Tops the List for Offering Best Average Download Speeds in April 2022

Posted: 13 May 2022 03:23 AM PDT

Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio has maintained its lead for offering the best average download speeds to users in April 2022. The telco had achieved an average download speed of 23.1 Mbps during the month compared to 21.1 Mbps in March 2022. This is good performance gain by the network of Reliance Jio and the average download speed delivered by the telco is much higher than what its competitors are providing to their customers.

Note that the data has been published by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) on its MySpeed portal owned by the regulator. As per the data for April 2022, while Jio was leading in the average download speed delivered front, Vodafone Idea (Vi) was leading in delivering the best average upload speed to the consumers.

Vodafone Idea Offered the Best Upload Speed to Consumers

Vodafone Idea, the third-largest telecom operator in the country offered the best average upload speed to the consumers during April 2022. As per TRAI data, Vi delivered an average upload speed of 8.2 Mbps during the month.

Airtel offered an average download and upload speed of 14.1 Mbps and 6.1 Mbps. Vodafone Idea's score in the average download speed list was 17.7 Mbps, which is notably more than what Airtel offered to the consumers. Jio delivered an average upload speed of 7.6 Mbps, which is also more than Airtel's figures.

From the data above, it can be seen that while Jio and Vi are leading in download and upload speed categories, Airtel is ahead of the telcos in neither. Vi delivered better download and upload speeds than Airtel and the same was the case for Jio.

Bharat Sanchar Nigam limited (BSNL), the state-owned telecom operator delivered an average download and upload speed of 5.9 Mbps and 5.0 Mbps, respectively. Without 4G networks present, it is a decent network performance from BSNL. It is worth noting that BSNL is planning to launch 4G networks soon in the country.
