And when it comes to families, broadband plans are actually a good option to connect multiple devices at once. But what broadband plan should people, particularly with small families go for. Mentioned below are some of the 100 Mbps broadband plans offered by a few prominent service providers that are reasonable and perfect for small families.

The 'Standard' Pack from Airtel

Airtel Xstream Fiber can provide high-speed internet up to 1 Gbps, however, the telco offers some comparatively affordable plans with effective internet speed. Fibre Optic internet connection Airtel allows one of the fastest broadband connections and is highly reliable. Users can get access to the 'Standard' pack which provides 100 Mbps of internet speed at a monthly cost of Rs 799 exclusive of taxes. Users get 3.3TB or 3300GB of monthly fair-usage-policy (FUP) data with this plan.

JioFiber 100 Mbps Plan

One of India’s most reliable service providers, JioFiber offers a 100 Mbps internet speed data plan at the price of Rs 699 for a validity period of 30 days. The FUP limit set on this plan is 3300GB or 3.3TB. Users get access to symmetrical upload and download speeds of 100 Mbps with this plan. TelecomTalk OTT Poll for May 2022: Disney+ Hotstar Sees Highest Demand

Posted: 19 May 2022 05:19 AM PDT

Telecomtalk

Disney+ Hotstar has been growing very fast in India. According to a TelecomTalk Poll result, Disney+ Hotstar was the most popular and in-demand OTT (over-the-top) platform in the country. In the second rank stood Amazon Prime Video, an Amazon-owned OTT platform that has been in the country for a very long-time now. In the third position was the streaming giant Netflix.

Despite being in the market for such a long-time and holding a major chunk of the subscriber market share in India, Netflix was quite behind Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar when it came to user demand.

Disney+ Hotstar has definitely benefited by airing live IPL (Indian Premier League) matches. The company said that it had added 4 million new Disney+ Hotstar users in the March 2022 quarter. This was quite a jump from the 2.6 million new users in the previous quarter.

It is also worth noting that the private telecom operators in the country had launched multiple new prepaid plans with a Disney+ Hotstar Mobile subscription ahead of the IPL 2022.

TelecomTalk OTT Poll for May 2022 Results

It was a one-day poll which saw 373 users voting. 34% of the users said they would pick Disney+ Hotstar as their choice of OTT platforms. Just behind Disney+ Hotstar was Amazon Prime Video, with 33% votes, followed by Netflix with only 25.5% votes.

Other OTT platforms such as ZEE5/ALTBalaji/SonyLIV got only 7.5% votes. IPL can't be the only thing that Disney+ Hotstar is doing right. Netflix got
the least votes amongst the major platforms, and that could be mainly due to its price.

Netflix has so many good and strong alternatives now that pricing would really matter in a market such as India. Disney+ Hotstar's annual plan can be bought for a mere price of Rs 1,499. However, for the same amount, you can only get two months of subscription with Netflix's top-tier plan.

BSNL Needs to Revamp Business by the Root

Posted: 19 May 2022 04:34 AM PDT

BSNL

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) needs to be aggressive with what it plans to do next – which is 4G. But the solution to the company's vast problems only begins with 4G. 5G is the next step in the ladder towards being a profitable company in the medium term. However, 4G and 5G are just network technologies. They are not what the consumer business is all about. While 4G and 5G are what consumers demand, things don't just end there.

BSNL needs to completely revamp its brand image and make the consumer aware that it is better than its competitors. To do that, BSNL needs to play its cards right.

BSNL Can Play the Homegrown 4G and 5G Card

BSNL will be the only telco that will be coming out with homegrown 4G in India. While BSNL is quite late to the party, homegrown 4G still counts for something. The state-run telco can appeal to the patriots of the country to join its network and avoid the other telecom operators. This can definitely have a positive impact on the company's business.

BSNL is currently in the process of setting up 4G sites in different parts of the country. After a few months, the state-run telco will start trialling the networks and then launch them by the end of 2022.

There might be some cities or states of the country which might get to see BSNL's 4G network by August 2022 itself. However unlikely that seems, we can't rule it out as so many company officials and people from the government have said the same.

In addition to this, BSNL needs to really work on its customer care work. The state-run telecom operator can get an edge over its competitors if it can deliver better customer service. BSNL is very well known in the country, and by offering cheaper tariffs initially, BSNL can be the people's choice when every other telecom operator is hiking tariffs.

HITS

Airtel Digital TV has now launched a new channel called Airtel HITS HD. The channel will take the users back to the most popular, iconic, and award-winning Hollywood television content from the 60s and 90s. It will be like taking a trip down the memory lane for most users who are a little old now. In fact, this is a great opportunity for people who missed out on Hollywood TV shows of the 60s and 90s to also witness how the cinematography, writing, and acting were back then.

Airtel HITS HD Channel Number and Other Details

Airtel HITS HD will be available for users on channel number 167 and will air old shows in High-Definition (HD) resolution. The channel has not yet been released for the users despite its launch. It will be available for the customers of Airtel Digital TV starting May 20, 2022. HITS is Asia's number one classic TV channel, and its addition to the platform of Airtel Digital TV will certainly give the Direct-to-Home (DTH) operator an edge over its competitors.

Users will get to see content from various genres, including adventure, sitcom, family drama, and crime shows. Some content that will be available for users includes Charmed, Baywatch, The Bionic Woman, The Lucy Show, and more.

HITS will feature content from various major productions such as ITV Studios, The Walt Disney Company, Paramount, NBCUniversal, and more.

Airtel HITS HD Channel Cost

Airtel HITS HD will be available for users for free for the first ten days. Post that, the customers will be charged Rs 75 per month for the channel. A ten-day free trial makes sense as it will give the users a taste of what they will get when they subscribe to the channel.

This will truly be an amazing channel offering from Airtel Digital TV for customers who are craving to watch shows from the pre-2000 era and want to understand the world of cinema from the 60s and 90s.

5G: Huge Supply and Demand Gap for Skilled Labour in India

Posted: 19 May 2022 01:59 AM PDT

5G

The demand for skilled labour in the telecom sector of India is quite high at the moment. According to the data published by the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) in its 'Overview: Indian Telecom Market 2022-23' report, there was a demand and supply gap of 28% in the telecom sector for skilled labour.

The report said that the gap would continue to widen with the rollout of 5G in the coming future. 5G would also bring allied technologies into play which will also require expertise and further add to the demand-supply gap.

TSSC Trying to Train and Upskill Indians as Fast as Possible

TSSC has an aim of boosting India's infrastructure and skilled workforce and thus plans to train over 1 lakh people in the coming three years and open ten new Centre of Excellence across the nation.

Arvind Bali, CEO, TSSC, said, "With OEMs setting shop in India, they will need a plethora of job roles to set up their supply chain. We aim to aid the ecosystem with a world-class skilled workforce for 5G and its allied technologies."

TSSC plans to train and upskill Indians in areas such as 5G, IoT (Internet of Things), ML (Machine Language), AI (Artificial Intelligence), and more.
It makes sense as more and more multinational companies (MNCs) are going to shift their manufacturing and assembling facilities to India to benefit from the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme and would require skilled, trained, and ready professionals to take up new job roles fast to save costs.

It would also help in curbing the unemployment rates in different regions of the country and add fruitfully to the economy of India. It is worth noting that TSSC is also planning to expand globally in regions such as Africa and the Middle East nations.

The need for skilled labour in the telecom sector of India is of utmost importance at the moment as telcos would want to roll out 5G as fast as possible to make a return on their investment.

Airtel Will Climb to Rs 200 ARPU Level Only When This Happens

Posted: 19 May 2022 01:23 AM PDT

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in India reported its ARPU (Average Revenue Per User) figure to be Rs 178 in Q4 FY22. The company's management has reiterated that the short-term goal is to reach Rs 200 ARPU level and in the long run, the company is eyeing for Rs 300 ARPU level.

Since the ARPU currently stands at Rs 178, reaching Rs 200 doesn't seem too far-fetched for Airtel. ICICI Securities in a note said that Airtel can reach Rs 200 ARPU level, but for that, it needs another round of tariff hikes. Further, the analyst said that the next tariff hike is possible in FY23.

This doesn't sound very surprising as Airtel has said before that it won't shy away from hiking tariffs within a year again. The last tariff hikes came around December 2021, after a gap of two years. This time the telco doesn't want to wait that long. Thus, reaching and crossing the Rs 200 ARPU level seems like an easy milestone for the company.

Of course, with Airtel hiking tariffs, Vodafone Idea would also follow. It will be interesting to see whether Jio would follow or focus on reaching the 500 million customer figure first.

ICICI Securities has maintained a 'Buy' rating on Airtel's stock and revised the target price to Rs 812 from Rs 850 earlier.

Airtel Outperformed Peers in Q4 FY22

In Q4 FY22, Bharti Airtel's performance and growth was robust as the telco outperformed its peers including Jio and Vodafone Idea. The telco's mobile revenues grew 16% while Jio's mobile revenues went up by only 11.6%. Airtel's higher tariffs and strong brand recognition helped the company in acquiring and retaining high paying customers.

Airtel's non-mobile business also performed quite well during the quarter. All its subsidiaries including Airtel Payments Bank, Airtel Digital TV, and more saw strong growth in business and revenues. This will help Airtel with generating more free cash flows and enable the telco in deleveraging fast.

The strong financials also put Airtel in a great position ahead of the 5G spectrum auction which would involve thousands, if not lakhs of crores.

Vi Onboards Shailendra Singh, Former Airtel CEO UP & West as Operations Director

Posted: 19 May 2022 12:29 AM PDT

Vodafone Idea

Vodafone Idea, the third-largest telecom operator has hired Shailendra Singh as the new 'Operations Director' for the company. The company said that Singh has extensive experience in "business strategy, driving successful P/L outcomes, Product marketing and leading large teams across varied geographies".

From the LinkedIn profile of Shailendra Singh, it can be noted that he has worked quite extensively in Bharti Airtel. Singh started in Airtel back in November 1997 and had worked in various roles in the company before moving on to take up the role of 'Vice President Operations' in Airtel. Post that, Singh became the CEO of Bharti Airtel for handling specifically the broadband and fixed-line business in Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Andhra Pradesh.

For the first time around, Singh worked in Airtel for 11 years and 6 months. After leaving Airtel, Singh took up the role of 'Head Mobile Business' in Tata Teleservices and was with the company for 6 years and 11 months before joining Airtel back in March 2016 as the Chief Executive Officer for UP (Uttar Pradesh) and West.

After all this extensive experience, Singh has decided to join Vodafone Idea Limited (VIL) as the Operations Director.

Shailendra Singh Educational Background

Shailendra Singh got his Bachelor's degree from the Kirori Mal College, Delhi University in 1986. He then completed his masters from Delhi School of Economics, Delhi University in 1988. Fast forward to 2005, Singh completed 'Management Program, Finance for Non-Finance Managers' from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Calcutta.

This list doesn't end here. In 2007, Singh completed the 'Executive Management Program and Creative Leadership' at the Center of Leadership (CL), Singapore. Then, a decade later, in 2017, Singh again took an Executive Management Program from Babson College, Boston.

It is quite obvious that Shailendra Singh is an experienced man for the job and has a lot to bring to the table for Vodafone Idea.

Broadband Connection Can Solve Your 4G Mobile Network Problems, But only at Home

Posted: 18 May 2022 11:38 PM PDT

Broadband

A broadband internet connection is the right way for you to go if you can't rely on your 4G mobile network for working from home or basically doing anything that involves the internet. Note that broadband here means fixed broadband.

There are multiple internet service providers (ISPs) in almost every part of the country who are offering a fixed broadband connection to users with speeds going up to 1 Gbps. With a fixed broadband connection, you can control the number of devices connected to the Wi-Fi network, which allows you to oversee that there is never a scenario of congestion.

But the thing is, you can't carry your broadband connection everywhere. You can leverage it at home for a good internet experience. However, once you are out of your home, you have no other option but to go with the mobile network for consuming data if you can't find public Wi-Fi spots.

Is India Delivering a Reliable 4G Experience to Users?

Some would say yes; some would say a hard no. The thing is, there are only three telecom operators with limited resources, and they have to serve a whole country. So not an easy task for them.

Regardless, their 4G networks are available in most parts of the country. The experience for the users differs from one place to another because of the kind of investments these telcos have made in different places. Further, network congestion is also there in areas where a lot of people are trying to go online using their 4G network connectivity from a single operator.

India's 4G is nowhere close to what users get in some of the other developed countries. It is also not enough for the users who are usually reliant on their fixed-broadband connection for internet services.

But with 5G, things should ideally change. 5G networks are capable of delivering at least 10x faster speeds than the 4G networks on average. So, once 5G is launched in a phase-wise manner, users will also start being reliant on their mobile networks for high-speed internet.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio Prepaid Plans are Better than Vi’s Plans for Most in India

Posted: 18 May 2022 07:50 PM PDT

Bharti Airtel

India has three private telecom operators currently. All of them are working aggressively to increase their subscriber market share, and it has led to cheap data for the consumers. But that scenario is slowly drifting away. The game will soon change to who offers the best services rather than who offers them at the most affordable prices.

Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio's prepaid plans are the best for most people in India currently. This is not just a subjective opinion, but the data from Opensignal seems to suggest so.

Airtel and Jio Prepaid Plans are Better than Vi's Plans, But Why?

Ericssion

Airtel and Jio's networks are way better in performance across different verticals/areas than Vi's 4G network. According to the Opensignal data published recently, Vi is only ahead in offering better download and upload speeds than its competitors.

Now many of you might be thinking that the download and upload speed is all that matters. Well, it isn't true. There are other things such as video experience, games experience, voice app experience, 4G coverage experience, 4G availability, network consistency, and core consistent quality. Opensignal took data from the Indian market between December 1, 2021, to February 28, 2022. During this period, Opensignal determined that Vi's network was the best in offering the highest average download and upload speeds.

But in other departments, Vi was behind its competitors. When it came to video experience, games experience, and voice app experience, Airtel was the best. Jio was leading in verticals such as 4G coverage experience, 4G availability, Excellent Consistent Quality, and Core Consistent Quality.

Why is Vodafone Idea Not the Best Option?

At the end of the day, speed is not everything. Network availability and consistent experience that you get is more important. One reason why Vi's networks are providing good speeds is that there is less load on its networks as compared to Jio and Airtel.

Vi only has 118 million 4G users, while Jio and Airtel have way more 4G customers on their network. There are great offers bundled with Vi's prepaid plans, but they are not enough to provide a great customer experience. Maybe that is the reason the telco has been losing customers for consecutive quarters now.

Broadband: Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Their Cheapest Plans

Posted: 18 May 2022 06:55 PM PDT

Cheapest Broadband Plans

There are a number of internet service providers (ISPs) in India and each of those offers a variety of broadband plans for their users. The majority of people in India are budget users and want to go for broadband plans that are affordable and offer adequate connectivity speed. Each ISP has a low-cost plan in its portfolio that are suitable for such users. Mentioned below are some of the major service providers in the country and the cheapest broadband plan offered by them.

30 Mbps Plan from Jio

The cheapest plan offered by Jio offers a connectivity speed of 30 Mbps. JioFiber provides the 30 Mbps internet speed data plan at the price of Rs 399 per month. The FUP limit set on this plan is 3300Gb or 3.3TB. Using the 30 Mbps plan from JioFiber, customers can get access to smooth and seamless internet across multiple devices. Along with high-speed internet, users also get a symmetrical download and upload speed from the provider. There are no OTT benefits included with the plan but is suitable for users looking for a cheap plan.

Affordable Plan from Airtel

Airtel is one of the most popular brands when it comes to the list of ISPs in India. With plans ranging up to 1 Gbps, Airtel does have cheaper plans for its subscribers as well. The Fibre Optic internet connection from Airtel allows one of the fastest broadband connections and users can get access to the 'Basic' pack which provides 40 Mbps of internet speed at a monthly cost of Rs 499 exclusive of taxes. Airtel also provides 'Airtel Thanks Benefits' with its broadband plans which in this case includes a subscription to Wynk Music and Shaw Academy.

ACT's Affordable Offer

The Internet Service Provider based in Bengaluru provides a 40 Mbps unlimited data plan called 'ACT Basic.' The plan usually costs Rs 549 for a month, but the ISP is providing a unique offer for its customers, wherein the 'ACT Basic' plan is available for a price of Rs 470 per month for a duration of 6 months. In addition to this, the FUP data limit levied on the broadband plans is 500GB post which the internet works at speed of 512 Kbps.

Netplus Broadband

Netplus is another ISP that offers its services in seven Indian states in the North. Netplus can provide connectivity with up to 1 Gbps of internet speed. However, the company also provides a truly unlimited plan offering 40 Mbps of internet speed at a price tag of Rs 499 per month which is exclusive of taxes. Users get unlimited data and calling benefits with this plan. Netplus offers only one 40 Mbps plan and OTT subscriptions are available with only higher-priced plans offered by the ISP. Data offered by Netplus is truly unlimited and no FUP data is levied.

Connect Broadband

Connect Broadband is a popular company which provides FTH connections in a few of the northern states of India such as Punjab, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The company provides budget plans with ample internet speed and the most basic 40 Mbps plan from the ISP comes with a price tag of Rs 499 per month and offers fully unlimited data along with completely unlimited Local and STD calls.

BSNL Offers This Cheap Plan

The most affordable option from the state-owned operator BSNL used to be the 'Fibre Basic' plan which offers an internet speed of 30 Mbps at a cost of Rs 449. The mentioned price is exclusive of GST and the plan comes with a FUP limit of 3300GB or 3.3TB. However, the telco has recently introduced a new broadband plan called "Fiber Entry". Using its Bharat Fiber connection, the telco offers a Fiber Entry plan which provides 20 Mbps speed at a cost of Rs 329 per month. The data limit on the plan is 1000GB beyond which the speed is reduced to 2 Mbps.
