Broadband: These ISPs Have Similar Options as the Airtel’s Rs 499 Broadband Plan

40 Mbps Broadband Plans

One of the leading service providers in the country Airtel has a bunch of broadband plans under its portfolio with the cheapest pack being a 40 Mbps plan. This plan from Airtel comes at a price tag of Rs 499 and offers stable, seamless connectivity. However, if you are looking for alternatives, there are a number of other internet service providers (ISPs) that actually have similarly priced plans. Let's take a look at all the broadband packs that are similar to Airtel's Rs 499 Plan.

Airtel’s Rs 499 Pack

Airtel with its Xstream Fiber connection offers one of the fastest broadband connections and users can get access to the 'Basic' pack which provides 40 Mbps of internet speed at a monthly cost of Rs 499 exclusive of taxes. Users get 3.3TB or 3300GB of monthly fair-usage-policy (FUP) data with this plan. Airtel also provides 'Airtel Thanks Benefits' with its broadband plans which in this case include a subscription to Wynk Music and Shaw Academy.

Connect Broadband

Connect Broadband is a popular company which provides FTH connections in a few of the northern states of India such as Punjab, Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir. The company provides budget plans with ample internet speed and the most basic 40 Mbps plan from the ISP comes with a price tag of Rs 499 per month and offers fully unlimited data along with completely unlimited Local and STD calls.

Netplus Broadband

Netplus is another ISP that offers its services in seven Indian states in the North. Netplus can provide connectivity with up to 1 Gbps of internet speed. However, the company also provides a truly unlimited plan offering 40 Mbps of internet speed at a price tag of Rs 499 per month which is exclusive of taxes. Users get unlimited data and calling benefits with this plan. Data offered by Netplus is truly unlimited and no FUP data is levied.

ACT Broadband

The Internet Service Provider based in Bengaluru provides a 40 Mbps unlimited data plan called 'ACT Basic.' The plan usually costs Rs 549 for a month, but the ISP is providing a unique offer for its customers, wherein the 'ACT Basic' plan is available for a price of Rs 470 per month for a duration of 6 months. In addition to this, the FUP data limit levied on the broadband plans is 500GB post which the internet works at speed of 512 Kbps.

Huawei and ZTE Have Been Executed Because of China’s Bad Image

Posted: 24 May 2022 05:54 AM PDT

Huawei

Huawei and ZTE, two of the globally renowned telecom gear and technology providers, have had to suffer a lot of losses and missed opportunities because of being banned in multiple countries from doing business. While these companies are allowed to sell consumer products, they can't do core telecom network business with the telecom service providers (TSPs) of many countries, including India, the US, and along with Europe.

Much recently, even Canada had banned Huawei and ZTE from doing business related to the telecom gear on its grounds. The Government of Canada said that it is ensuring the long-term security of its people and intends to ban Huawei and ZTE products and services in Canada's telecommunications systems.

Huawei and ZTE Provided Technology and Gear at Attractive Costs

Because of the scale at which these Chinese companies were doing business, they offered tech and services to the TSPs around the world at attractive prices, which helped the telecom companies in rolling out new networks at optimum costs and increasing margins.

But due to China's bad image and the alleged relations of Huawei and ZTE with the Chinese government, many major markets have turned these companies out of their door.

India has also not included Huawei and ZTE on its trusted vendors’ list. Huawei and ZTE's losses have been profits for European vendors, including Nokia and Ericsson. Both the companies have expanded their business in Europe as well as Asia.

It is worth noting that no one has been able to prove that the ties between Huawei, ZTE and the Chinese government are real. But, at the same time, no one wants to take the risk of them being real.

Indian telcos had relied on Huawei and ZTE for 2G, 3G, and 4G. But with 5G, none of the Chinese companies has been allowed to be a part of the trials, and it is likely that they are not going to be a part of India's future in the telecom gear market.

COAI Happy With BMC Mumbai for Reducing Charges to Deploy OFC to Rs 1,000 Per Kilometre

COAI

In a positive development for the telcos and the other internet and connectivity service providers, the access charges for deploying optical fiber cable (OFC) have been reduced to Rs 1,000 per kilometre from Rs 1 lakh per kilometre. This will be a major relief for the companies involved in deploying OFC for providing connectivity services. It is also going to benefit the consumers in Mumbai as the ISPs (internet service providers) as well as the telcos will be able to expand their business faster at a lower cost.

COAI Applauds BMC Mumbai for the Move

The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has applauded the move from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (MBC), Mumbai, to reduce the access charges for deploying OFC. The industry body also thanked the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), the Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, officials of BMC, officials of the IT Department, Mumbai, and industry representatives for this move.

This development will help with a quick broadband rollout in Mumbai, and it will positively affect the margins of the companies trying to provide connectivity services in the city.

Earlier, the BMC was charging companies Rs 1,00,000 or Rs 1 lakh per kilometre for laying OFC. But this was not in line with what was suggested in the central RoW (Right of Way) rules, and thus the companies had to bear this huge cost while looking to deploy OFC in Mumbai.

The roadblock of huge costs for deploying OFC in Mumbai is finally gone, and the telcos and other ISPs can now go ahead and lay fiber for 1% of the cost they had to pay earlier.

Lt. Gen. Dr SP Kochhar, Director General, COAI, said that while the cost is still not zero as per recommended by the RoW 2016 Rules, it is still a significant reduction in costs and something that will benefit the members.
