| Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 4G Variant Might Launch Soon Posted: 15 Jun 2022 10:17 PM PDT
There are millions of fans of Galaxy FE (Fan Edition) devices. The FE devices are affordable and pack all the power of a flagship smartphone. It all started with the Galaxy S20 FE, which was a super hit and led Samsung to launch the Galaxy S21 FE as well. But, the Galaxy S21 FE which launched earlier this year, packed a 5G chip. To reduce the cost of the device, Samsung is also planning to launch a 4G chip-powered Galaxy S21 FE. The one which launched earlier this year came with the Exynos 2100 SoC. Samsung Galaxy S21 FE With Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G SoC Might Be in the WorksA new Samsung Galaxy S21 FE powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G might be in the works and launch soon. The device has reportedly been spotted in online shops in Europe. In addition to this, the Galaxy S21 FE 4G has also been spotted on the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) certification website with the model number SM-G9990B2. As per a report from the GalaxyClub, Samsung is going to bring this new Galaxy S21 FE 4G with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G later this summer. The device is definitely expected to come at a lower price tag than the current one. The Samsung Galaxy S21 FE 5G was launched in India with two memory variants – 8GB+128GB for Rs 54,999 and 8GB+256GB for Rs 58,999. The device came with top-of-the-line specifications such as 120Hz refresh rate, Exynos 2100 SoC, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus on top. It will be interesting to see what the 4G variant would look like and, more importantly, whether Samsung would launch it in the Indian market or not. Everyone's looking for a 5G device; thus, it is a little confusing to see why Samsung thinks that users would pay a premium price for a 4G smartphone today. Regardless, we will get to know more about the device once Samsung officially confirms it. |
| Airtel, Vi and Jio to Benefit from Lower Yearly Costs Posted: 15 Jun 2022 09:32 PM PDT
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) released Notice Inviting Applications (NIA) for the 5G spectrum auction on Wednesday. The auction is all set to take place on July 26, 2022. DoT said that the telcos wouldn't have to pay SUC (Spectrum Usage Charges) along with the Bank Guarantees (BGs) for the spectrum they acquire during the upcoming auction. This means that the outgo of cash for the telcos will reduce significantly. A DoT official asking not to be named told ET Telecom that this move would reduce the yearly costs of the telcos that go towards the government. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had suggested a 39% reduction, but due to this move from the government, the telcos will see around 40% to 50% cost reduction in their annual payment to the government. This will benefit the struggling telecom operator Vodafone Idea (Vi) a lot. Along with Vi, even Airtel and Jio will benefit a lot as they can expedite the 5G rollout with all the saved money. Telcos Asking for a 90% Cut Was a Little UnrealThe telecom operators were asking for a 90% cut in the reserve price of the airwaves from the 2018 levels. But it was a little too ambitious of an ask. TRAI had cut down the prices by 39%, which is still a significant number, and the telcos should take it up happily. The relief measures that have been provided by the government are just enough to get the telecom sector going. 5G is going to open up a new stream of revenues from the enterprise sector, and that will further help the telcos to propel their business upwards. The telecom players are indeed saving a lot of money, but it is important to remember that there are still thousands of crores that both Airtel and Vi owe to the government in the form of Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) dues and other interests. |

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) had set a goal of launching 5G networks in India by August 15, 2022. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had also been advised on the timeline to ensure that it happens. However, things didn't happen as per the wishes of the PMO. Things got delayed and the Notice Inviting Applications (NIA) was released by the DoT on Wednesday. The 5G spectrum auction will take place on July 26, 2022. According to a PTI report, Ashwini Vaishnaw, Communications Minister of India, said the launch of 5G services in India will come by September 2022. Vaishnaw said that July was the month the government was targeting the spectrum auction and thus everything is going timely. What Will We See on August 15 then?Don't forget, there's always Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited's (BSNL) 4G networks that we can see launching on August 15, 2022. While the state-run telco already has 4G networks in several parts of the country, a wider launch is expected this year. So, while the telcos are launching 5G networks, BSNL will be launching 4G. To be honest, both are equally exciting as both stand to change the way Indian telecom market works. It will be a completely new dynamic with BSNL into providing 4G services. 5G services are not going to be in heavy demand from the consumers if they are expensive. Further, 5G won't even be present everywhere. So, consumers will likely stay connected to 4G networks and that is why BSNL's 4G launch will be a crucial event for the country. According to Ericsson's mobility report 2021, 4G is going to stay relevant in India till 2026 and thus the telcos can't just solely focus on 5G and forget 4G. There are still many users in the country who haven't experienced 4G yet and it will be another challenge for the telcos to solve. |
| Vodafone Idea Giving Rs 100 Per Month on Purchase of 4G Phones for Limited Time Posted: 15 Jun 2022 06:32 PM PDT
We are in 2022 and most of the world is moving to the fifth-generation network or the 5G technology. However, in India, the telcos are still worried about providing services to 2G users. Even today, there are hundreds of millions of 2G network users in India. It has a lot to do with the demographics, but one more factor which affects the shift of 2G users to 4G users is the lack of very affordable 4G smartphones. Further, there aren't even big incentives for users to shift from 2G to 4G. But Vodafone Idea is cleverly trying to push users to buy 4G phones by offering them Rs 100 per month against their purchase. Here's everything you should know about the offer. Vodafone Idea 4G Smartphone Offer for 2G CustomersTelecomTalk has verified the authenticity of the offer and it will be valid for the users until June 30, 2022. This is how the offer will work: Step 1: If you are a 2G handset user of Vi, then you need to upgrade to a 4G phone. If you didn't understand the offer, go through these terms and conditions to see how it will work. Vodafone Idea 4G Phone Cashback offer for 2G Device Users
First of all, this offer is only applicable for prepaid users. So don't shift from prepaid to postpaid if you want to keep getting Rs 100 cashbacks from the company. Then, don't stop recharging with a prepaid plan that costs Rs 299 and above (should be an unlimited benefits plan) for the next 24 months or else the offer will be removed. The offer is only applicable for users shifting from 2G to a 4G device and is already a Vi user. But here's the biggest catch. The Rs 100 cashback coupon you get inside the Vi app only has a validity of 30 days. So, you need to keep using these vouchers for some sort of recharge every 30 days or else you won't get the offer. It's truly hard to understand why Vi would think that this is a great offer, but well, it is what it is. In addition to this, in every recharge, you can only use one voucher. This means that the maximum benefit that you get at a time from this is a Rs 100 discount. Honestly, this is a lot of hassle just to get a Rs 100 cashback voucher. Maybe this is the reason why Vi hasn't even put effort into promoting this offer which has been available since December 18, 2021. |
