| Vodafone Idea Ahead of Airtel, Jio in Delivering Better Voice Quality Posted: 19 Jun 2022 03:37 AM PDT
Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest telecom operator in the country, has been offering a better voice quality experience to users than its competitors, Jio and Airtel. While Vi isn't the best at everything, the telco has certainly bagged recognitions for some of the key metrics which make a big difference in the kind of overall experience a consumer has. According to the TRAI MyCall Data, Vi continues to be rated the highest on call quality parameters from January to May 2022. It is worth noting that Vodafone Idea (Vi) is the only telecom operator in India to be recognised for scoring the best in voice call quality across 2G/3G/4G networks on an aggregate basis as well as individually on 2G, 3G, and 4G. Check Out Vi's Score for Indoor, Outdoor and While Travelling Voice Call ConnectivityAccording to the data shared by TRAI MyCall, for the month of May 2022, Vi is the only telco with a score of 3.9 out of 5 for indoor calls, 3.5 for outdoor calls, and 4.6 while travelling over 2G/3G/4G networks on an aggregate basis. Specifically talking about the voice call quality for 4G networks, Vi had the highest rating of 4.4 amongst all the telecom operators. Vi scored 4.5 in the indoor call measure, 3.7 on outdoor calls, and 4.7 while travelling with 4G networks. TRAI's MyCall data is crowd-sourced in nature and is collected through the TRAI MyCall application by mobile users across the nation. This is certainly a positive for the telco and its investors. Vi has also been recognised by Ookla for delivering the fastest 4G network in the country. When it comes to upload speeds, Vi is again the best in the country amongst all the telcos. A lot of factors go into making the mobile data and call experience good for the consumers. Vi has been making efforts to ensure that its consumers get the best experience possible. |
| Indian Telecom Players are Just Looking for Liquidity Posted: 19 Jun 2022 01:45 AM PDT
The Indian telecom industry has been grinding to retain high-paying customers and add new ones as fast as possible. The game has slightly shifted from capturing the largest subscriber market share to the highest average revenue per user (ARPU) figure. Telcos no longer just want subscribers at the cost of offering super affordable services. All the private telecom companies have hiked tariffs and are planning for more such hikes to improve the ARPU figure to boost overall revenues. Being in the telecom industry as a private player means shelling out lakhs of crores for setting up infrastructure, getting spectrum from the government, paying RoW charges, getting multiple other clearances, and more. One of the biggest pain points for the industry was/is the statutory dues. While the govt has decided to remove spectrum usage charges (SUC) and the need for bank guarantees (BGs) from the future spectrum auctions, both Vi and Airtel still need to pay thousands of crores in adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues. This limits the capacity of these private companies to invest in their networks and grow business. Further, it also impacts the kind of services the consumers get and the Digital India vision of the government. Every Partnership, Tariff Hikes and More in Line with Boosting CashflowsTelcos apart from Reliance Jio have barely made free cashflows in the last few years. Bharti Airtel has recovered fast and posted great figures from the perspective of the investors, but there's still a long way to go with 5G investments, and there's also the payment of deferred dues amounting to thousands of crores. Thus, the telcos have been partnering with new players to offer things that aren't directly related to telecom products/services. Along with this, the telcos are hiking tariffs. All of this is being done to run the business smoothly and grow it as fast as possible for the investors by generating more revenues. The government has also helped the telcos with addressing their liquidity issues quite a lot, and now it all depends on the operators to fix their weak points to boost their revenues and profits. |
| BSNL to Launch 4G in August in this District With 5G Capable Hardware Posted: 18 Jun 2022 11:20 PM PDT
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the state-run telecom operator in India is nearing its 4G launch time frame. People aware of the developments had said that the 4G launch from BSNL would come around August 2022 in a soft manner, and then by the end of the year, a wide-scale launch will be seen. Well, now, another new development has surfaced. The hardware that BSNL will be using to launch 4G services in the Kanyakumari district in August 2022 will not only be 4G capable but will also be able to support 5G. According to a report from TheHindu, BSNL will be launching 4G services in Kanyakumari by upgrading the existing 292 mobile towers in the Nagercoil Business area. These towers will be supplied with the kind of hardware that will come with built-in 5G capabilities. BSNL Plans to Add 300 More Towers in the AreaAccording to the publication's report, BSNL is also planning to add over 300 more towers in the area. This will ensure that BSNL's 4G network services in the Nagercoil Business area are super, and consumers can get a great experience out of it. But BSNL will not stop here. To provide even better coverage, BSNL will add 100 micro towers as well. These micro towers will be added to the 'heavy traffic load areas' such as business places, bus stands, hospitals, and more to oversee network congestion doesn't ruin the customer experience. If this is the kind of planning that BSNL has for each of the districts and states it is going to launch 4G services in, the private telcos should prepare for stiff competition. The report mentioned that these towers could be switched to 5G by a simple software upgrade which means that in the future, once BSNL is done with setting up 4G on a large scale, the state-run telco can take the reserved spectrum from the DoT (Department of Telecommunications) and switch on 5G. |
| BSNL Rs 299 Plan Offers Better Benefits than What Private Telcos Do Posted: 18 Jun 2022 06:33 PM PDT
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offers a Rs 299 prepaid plan just like the private telcos, including Jio, Airtel, and Vi do. However, the thing with private telcos is that they want to maintain their premium over BSNL, and thus the benefits that they offer with their Rs 299 plan are much fewer than what you get with the Rs 299 from BSNL. Post the tariff hikes in 2021, the difference between the Rs 299 plan of BSNL and the private telcos skyrocketed. Let's take a look at the benefits that you get with BSNL's plans. BSNL Rs 299 Prepaid PlanBSNL offers users its Rs 299 prepaid plan with a total validity of 30 days. With this plan, users get unlimited voice calling, 3GB of daily data (80 Kbps after consumption), and 100 SMS/day. There are no other benefits offered with this plan. One of the greatest benefits of this plan is its validity. Users don't get to see many 30 days plans today; thus, this plan from BSNL is a sight for sore eyes. Bharti Airtel Rs 299 Prepaid PlanBharti Airtel offers its Rs 299 prepaid plan with a total validity of 28 days. Users get 1.5GB of daily data with this plan, along with unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day. The additional benefits of this plan include Xstream Mobile Pack for 28 days, Apollo 24 | 7 Circle, Rs 100 cashback with FASTag, Free Hellotunes, and Wynk Music for free. Reliance Jio Rs 299 Prepaid PlanReliance Jio offers its Rs 299 prepaid with 2GB of daily data, which is more than what users get compared to Airtel's plan. However, the validity is the same as Airtel's plan – 28 days. Users get unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day. There are complimentary subscriptions included – JioTV, JioCinema, JioSecurity, and JioCloud. Let's take a look at what Vi offers to the users. Vodafone Idea Rs 299 Prepaid PlanVodafone Idea offers its Rs 299 prepaid plan with 1.5GB of daily data, 100 SMS/day and unlimited voice calling. This plan carries a total validity of 28 days as well. Users get Vi Hero Unlimited benefits as well as a free subscription to Vi Movies & TV. Under Vi Hero Unlimited benefits, users get Binge All Night, Weekend Data Rollover, and Data Delights offer. Looking at all these plans, it is pretty evident that BSNL's prepaid plan is way better. |
