iPhones Are Sweet, But Sometimes Not Worth it Posted: 27 Jun 2022 09:04 AM PDT Don't purchase an iPhone just for the sake of it. An iPhone is just a smartphone at the end of the day. Some people can afford it, and some can't. People who can't seem to afford a new one end up purchasing the second-hand iPhone from the market at a very high price than necessary. These users want an iPhone just because they have been sold the vision of higher status in society for the iPhone owners. If you think an iPhone is perfect, you are naïve. Yes, it has very consistent cameras, especially for video recording. But there are a lot of features that you don't get with an iPhone that you can get with an Android. iPhones have bugs too. They might not be as evident as with the Androids, but they do have their own shortcomings. The point is, if you are purchasing an iPhone just because it is an iPhone, then I hope you are generating enough cash flow to support the purchase. Because an iPhone may look sweet from far, but if you can't afford it and still end up purchasing it by over-extending your budget, then you are putting yourself in a bad position. iPhones are definitely a good buy if you understand a few things. Things to Understand Before You Buy an iPhoneFirst of all, ask yourself, are you purchasing the iPhone because you need it, or do you just want the status symbol and validation it brings with itself? Second, do you have enough cash flow to support the purchase, even if you are buying it on EMIs? Third, what's the primary thing you are going to use it for? Fourth, can that primary thing be done with a smartphone at the lower price range equally well? After you know the answer to these questions, go ahead and make the decision of whether you really need to purchase an iPhone today or not. Sometimes advertisements and validation have us chasing things we don't really need!
5G Use Cases Ericsson Says that Will Come to India First Posted: 27 Jun 2022 06:49 AM PDT 5G spectrum auctions are less than a month away in India. The telecom operators have already made their networks 5G ready and have conducted enough tests and trials to launch it commercially once they receive the spectrum. When asked by TelecomTalk during a virtual briefing, Dr Thiaw Seng Ng, Head of Network Evolution, SEA, Oceania and India, Ericsson, said that the early use cases that Indian telecom operators will be enabling with 5G are FWA (Fixed Wireless Access), Healthcare (remote ambulance), and eMBB (enhanced mobile broadband). Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel have already demonstrated the use case of their 5G network for ambulances. With high frequencies in the play, FWA can be really successful in delivering internet services in rural and sub-urban areas of India. 5G FWA utilises standardised 3GPP architectures and common mobile components for delivering high-speed broadband services to consumers. 5G FWA can act as a really solid alternative to the fixed-line DSL, cable or fiber services across markets. Consumers to Benefit a Lot from eMBBConsumers are going to benefit a lot from the enhanced mobile broadband (eMBB), which promises much larger and increased bandwidth and decreased latency compared to the existing 4G networks in the country. Smart Ambulances will also play a major role in saving lives in the near future. Enabled by the 5G networks, ambulances in India will be able to allow real-time diagnosis and treatment of the patient with a high degree of precision by live feeding the patient data to the doctor inside the hospital. These are some of the use cases that Thiaw believes that the Indian telecom operators are most excited about. It is worth noting that Ericsson has been working closely with the telecom operators globally as well as in India with Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Bharti Airtel. The company definitely understands the needs of the telcos and how to enable them for succeed in their 5G journey.
OnePlus Nord Watch Internal Testing To Begin in India Soon Posted: 27 Jun 2022 06:15 AM PDT OnePlus is apparently preparing to introduce a number of items in the upcoming days, according to previous reports. It is rumoured to be developing several new smartphones, OnePlus Band 2, Nord-branded headphones, and new smartphones. In the third quarter of this year, OnePlus is apparently preparing to introduce a smartwatch under the Nord brand in the Indian market. The awaited wearable has allegedly started internal testing in India, according to a recent update. It is also said to have been discovered on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, suggesting that it could soon be available on the Indian market. The OnePlus Band and OnePlus Watch are the company's current wearable offerings. The OnePlus Nord Watch is anticipated to be the predecessor of the first, which was unveiled in March of last year. More about the OnePlus WatchThe internal testing of the OnePlus Nord Watch has allegedly started in India, according to well-known tipster Mukul Sharma (@stufflistings). There have also been rumours of a Q3 2022 debut date. A screenshot of what appears to be a BIS listing for the OnePlus Nord Watch was also shared on Twitter by the tipster. Nevertheless, other than the device's model number, OPBBE221, the listing provides no other information regarding the item. The OnePlus watch, which debuted in March of last year and retailed for Rs 16,999, is likely to be replaced by the rumoured OnePlus Nord Watch. A 1.39-inch circle with 2.5D curved glass serves as the display for the OnePlus Watch. More than 110 different fitness modes are available, and it works with the OnePlus Health app. It includes monitoring of SpO2 oxygen saturation, stress detection, breathing tracker, rapid heart rate alarms, and sedentary reminders. It has IP68-certified constructions and 5ATM water resistance. It has a 405mAh battery unit that is compatible with Wrap Charge quick charging.
Apple iPhone 14 Pro’s Always-On Display Will Highlight New iOS 16 Widgets Posted: 27 Jun 2022 05:14 AM PDT Barring any significant supply chain hiccups, Apple will likely introduce its iPhone 14 lineup around September as usual. And now some intriguing details about the iPhone 14 Pro series have surfaced in a fresh report. The iPhone 14 Pro models will have always-on displays that let users read glanceable information without having a tap to wake the screen. Mark Gurman stated in the most recent issue of his Power On newsletter for Bloomberg that the function will support iOS 16's new Weather, Fitness, and other Lock Screen widgets. Further information regarding the new featureAlways-on displays are anticipated to be available only on Pro and Pro Max models, but they could eventually appear on ordinary models as well. The iPhone 14 Pro, like the Apple Watch, will be able to display widgets that show weather, calendars, stocks, activities, and other data while the screen is at a low brightness and frame rate, according to Gurman. Additionally, there will be a setting that, like the Apple Watch, prevents sensitive information from being displayed on the lock screen for public viewing. Not only that, the time, date, and unread notifications indicator will probably also be visible on the always-on display. It is expected that Apple will give users the choice to enable or disable the always-on display on iPhone 14 Pro models via the Settings app, following the lead of the Apple Watch, which has offered an always-on display mode since the Series 5 model. According to Gurman, the always-on display option on the iPhone 14 Pro should conserve battery life by combining a low refresh rate with reduced brightness. Display industry researcher Ross Young predicts that the iPhone 14 Pro models would likely be able to drop down to as low as 1Hz like the Apple Watch for even greater battery efficiency. ProMotion, which was first introduced on iPhone 13 Pro models, enables the display to drop as low as 10Hz when idle.
New Telecom Operator Emerges in China Posted: 27 Jun 2022 04:42 AM PDT China has long been a three-telecom player market. Now, a new telecom company, namely China Broadnet, has joined the competition to bring something fresh to the consumers. However, the existing operators won't be worried a lot right now as China Broadnet is not a strong rival without its own network. China Broadnet will be offering low-cost 4G and 5G packages to the consumers to win subscriber market share. China Reporter had earlier shared that the new telco was giving customers an opportunity to reserve an easy-to-remember or widely liked number. These numbers were being offered with a condition of at least a two-year contract for which there would also be a monthly fee and an advance payment. China Broadnet Took Its Sweet Time for Coming to the MarketAccording to China Reporter, the telco has taken its sweet time before coming to the market. China Broadnet had taken its license around three years back. Given the scale of the Chinese market and the dominance that the old players already have, China Broadnet has a tough journey ahead to address. It is the new era of 5G, and China Broadnet can capitalise on it being a modern player by offering distinguished services. This will be a fresh change for the Chinese consumers as well, who will get an opportunity to choose apart from the existing three old players. Reliance Jio, the largest telco in China's neighbouring country – India, has proved that new players can seriously have a strong effect on the way a market is running despite the presence of old guns. But it takes a seriously good strategy and quick execution to acquire and retain customers who are already loyal to the other operators. In the coming years, China Broadnet can expand with its 5G network and capitalise on the market attention being a new player by offering low-cost services and additional benefits with its services.
Nothing Phone (1) to be Available at Reliance Digital Stores Posted: 27 Jun 2022 03:43 AM PDT In an event titled "Return to instinct," Nothing Phone (1) will be released on July 12. Pre-order information for the smartphone is currently available, and Flipkart will be the only retailer in India where it will be offered. It's interesting to note that a recent report suggests retail outlets in India may sell the Nothing smartphone. According to 91Mobiles, Nothing is in discussions with Reliance Digital about offline sales of the Nothing Phone (1). Given that Nothing intends to have better control over its inventory, it is unclear when the phone will be offered for sale through offline markets. In contrast to Nothing's initial sales strategy, choosing offline sales would require making a large number of units available and waiting for the stock to sell out. The company has stated that an invitation-only mechanism will be used to make the device available for purchase, allowing community members to obtain it first. The corporation will be able to analyse the demand and produce units as necessary with the help of the invite-only method. More about Nothing Phone (1)The device is rumoured to come with a 6.55-inch Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate support. It could be powered by Snapdragon 778G+ SoC and have 8GB of RAM. The smartphone is also said to support 45W rapid charging. Nothing has substantiated a number of claims regarding the phone (1). The back of the device will be translucent. It will include several strips with up to 900 individual LED lights on the back that will shine whenever the user receives a call, message, or other notification. On the rear of the phone are two cameras. Additionally, compatibility for wireless charging has been confirmed. Last but not least, it is known that the Phone (1) will ship with Nothing OS installed on top of Android 12 out of the box. However, we won't learn the veracity of the leaked offline shop availability information for a few days.
Vi Business Launches New Program to Help MSMEs Scale Digitally Posted: 27 Jun 2022 01:27 AM PDT The world is shifting toward digital applications, and this has pushed the Medium and Small Sized Enterprises (MSMEs) to adopt digital ways of doing business as well. Vi Business, the B2B arm of Vodafone Idea, has just launched a new program called 'ReadyforNext', aimed to help the MSMEs thrive in their digital business journey. The curated program from the company will serve all the needs of the MSMEs to enable them to grow at a faster rate. Arvind Nevatia, Chief Enterprise Business Officer, Vodafone Idea, said the MSMEs are the backbone of India's economy and contribute 30% to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product). Nevatia further said, "The ReadyForNext Program is our commitment to MSMEs to provide long-term solutions that will help them move ahead and build a better tomorrow. It is aimed to simplify their decision-making process and help them identify the right focus, direction and solutions for their business, to be ready for tomorrow." The most important figure shared by Nevatia was that the program would empower around 2,50,000 MSMEs to fast-track growth, which will further add to the economy of the country. Vi Business ReadyForNext Program Two ElementsVi Business said that its new program from the MSMEs comprises two elements – Exclusive MSME offers and Digital Self Evaluation. The Exclusive MSME offers are built on three pillars – Engage, Grow and Secure. These are solutions offered to MSMEs to grow their business by increasing customer engagement and satisfaction rates. There are plenty of services from Vi Business that these enterprises can purchase and leverage to grow in their business journey. The second is the Digital Self Evaluation, for which Vi Business has associated with Dun & Bradstreet and developed a platform for the MSMEs to understand their digital readiness, identify gaps and required steps for growing the business digitally. Vi Business said, "The 'ReadyForNext' evaluation process helps the business owners assess their setup across three aspects: Digital Customer, Digital Workspace and Digital Business."
Vodafone Idea Lowest Cost Prepaid Plan With Free Disney+ Hotstar Posted: 27 Jun 2022 01:07 AM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest telecom operator in the country had started offering new prepaid plans with a Disney+ Hotstar Mobile earlier this year. This was because Disney+ Hotstar had the digital streaming rights of the IPL 2022. There's a whole range of prepaid plans from Vi that bundle this OTT benefit. But if you are looking to get the most affordable plan from the telco that comes with Disney+ Hotstar, you can go for the Rs 151 plan. Vodafone Idea Rs 151 Prepaid PlanThe Rs 151 prepaid plan from Vodafone Idea is not an unlimited benefits plan. With this plan, users get 8GB of data for 30 days. It is a data booster pack that is useful when the user firstly has an unlimited pack subscription. With this data pack, the Disney+ Hotstar benefit bundled is given for three months only. There are prepaid plans which also bundle the OTT subscription for an entire year. But with this plan, the subscription to the Disney+ Hotstar Mobile-only comes for three months. It isn't really a bad deal as with the subscription, the user will get 8GB of data as well. Moreover, this data pack comes with a standalone validity. Apart from this, there's no really truly affordable Disney+ Hotstar pack offered by Vodafone Idea. You can also check out the Disney+ Hotstar packs of other telcos including Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio. Both these telcos also offer affordable packs with this particular OTT subscription. Note that the three months Disney+ Hotstar plans were launched by all the telcos before the IPL started to lure customers into purchasing their plans who wanted to stream IPL directly on their smartphones. But these plans don't really serve a very big purpose right now. However, if you are a Marvel fan, then you can definitely consider getting the subscription to Disney+ Hotstar right away.

The same chipset has been used on the OnePlus 10R and the 80W fast-charging has been picked from the OnePlus 10 Pro 5G. With the Nord series devices, OnePlus wants to deliver something power to the customers at an affordable price. The OnePlus Nord 2T 5G can essentially become the most powerful mid-range device in the country. OnePlus has confirmed that the smartphone will run on OxygenOS 12.1 out of the box. This year alone, OnePlus has launched two new Nord smartphones in the country. This will be the third Nord device in India in 2022 and likely the last one as well. Since the smartphone has already been launched outside India, we can peek at its specifications closely. | BSNL Fiber Broadband Plans Available With Rs 1200 Benefit Posted: 26 Jun 2022 10:07 PM PDT Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is offering its fiber broadband plans with Rs 1200 benefit to the users. The state-run telco runs one of the most successful fiber broadband arm called Bharat Fibre in India. Broadband plans from BSNL Bharat Fibre directly compete with the offerings of Airtel Xstream Fiber and JioFiber. To give a boost to its fiber business and attract new consumers, BSNL is offering a Rs 1200 benefit to the existing landline/DSL broadband users if they switch to fiber services. BSNL Will Reduce Rs 200 Every Month from the Final BillBSNL is currently giving a discount of Rs 200 from each bill for up to six months to the users who are switching from the DSL/landline service to the fiber broadband service. This means a total discount of Rs 1200 over the six months. This discount will be available on every plan offered by the telco. BSNL said that this is a limited period offer and will be available for the first 60 days only. The FTTH (fiber-to-the-home) services are better today as it also costs the same but brings more to the table for the consumers. BSNL also has fiber broadband plans bundled with Over-The-Top (OTT) subscriptions. Users can select plans giving between 30 Mbps to 300 Mbps speeds. There are no plans offered by the state-run telecom company which offers more than 300 Mbps speed. Customers can easily convert their existing DSL/landline connection to a fiber connection by reaching out to their nearest BSNL office or through a phone call to the office. It is the era of FTTH services, and thus this is a pretty good incentive for the users to upgrade. BSNL has fallen down to the third position in the fiber ISPs (Internet Service Providers) category and is now behind JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber. The offer is live right now, so don't wait up and call your nearest BSNL office right away to get it. |
Telecom Department Will Auction the Spectrum for Backhaul Posted: 26 Jun 2022 08:54 PM PDT The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is going to auction the spectrum primarily seen by the telcos as airwaves for backhaul services. We are talking about E & V bands. The e-band spectrum is airwaves between 71 – 76 GHz and 81 – 86 GHz, while the V-band spectrum is airwaves in the 60 GHz band. The E & V band spectrum are considered ideal for providing high-speed broadband services in rural India. According to a FinancialExpress report, the government is going to auction the spectrum in both the bands in the upcoming spectrum auction scheduled for July 26. How Will the Telcos Get E-Band Spectrum? As per the report, DoT will provisionally allocate the E-band spectrum to the telcos to help them with the 5G launch. However, later on, the telcos will have to pay for the E-band spectrum at a market-decided price. The Digital Communications Commission (DCC), the highest decision-making body in the DoT, had earlier supported TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) recommendation to circle-wise allocate the E-band spectrum to telcos via the administrative route depending on the need. This was recommended on the condition that the telcos would pay for these airwaves in future based on the auction-based pricing mechanism. However, the tech companies weren't too happy with this recommendation. The tech companies believed that if there was an administrative allocation of E-band to the telcos, it would not be right. But the telcos have communicated with the DoT about the importance of the E-band for their backhaul services, especially when they are moving towards 5G. The data load on the backhaul is going to increase several times once 5G comes, and thus the telcos need access to the E-band spectrum. Vodafone Idea had already conducted a trial with Nokia using the E-band spectrum in the 80 GHz band. The telco and Nokia achieved a 9.85 Gbps of backhaul capacity using the E-band.
Vodafone Idea Should Expand VoWi-Fi Calling Availability Fast Posted: 26 Jun 2022 06:27 PM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi) is currently offering VoWi-Fi calling service in 12 states of the country. It is such an important service, especially for boosting the coverage experience for the users. It is used by so many people inside their houses who don't get proper indoor mobile network coverage. But with Vodafone Idea, it is only available in 12 states including Maharashtra & Goa, UP West, Kolkata, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, UP East, Delhi, Rest of Bengal, Mumbai, and Haryana. Vi doesn't have the kind of network coverage Airtel and Jio provide, as per Opensignal. Thus, it is hard to understand why the telco isn't investing in expanding the availability of the service fast. Every new smartphone launching today comes with support for Wi-Fi calling. People working from their homes have also set up strong Wi-Fi networks because they can't rely on India's 4G networks for a seamless internet experience. Why is Vi Not Expanding VoWi-Fi Calling AvailabilitySo, it is a question that I don't have an answer to. Maybe it is because it has such limited funds at its disposal that it can either expand the 4G network, deploy fiber, or do other things before it can invest in expanding Wi-Fi calling. One thing that's pretty visible here is that Vi isn't prioritising the south Indian states for Wi-Fi calling. Customers in that region can only depend on the mobile network for making voice calls. Vodafone Idea has received a lot of help from the Indian government. The telco's scare of going out of business should be gone by now. There are still areas where Vodafone Idea needs to work on. Adding new customers should be the priority on the list of targets. Without new 4G customers, the growth in ARPU (average revenue per user) will be fairly limited and that will negatively impact the company's overall revenues in the long run. With almost half of 2022 gone, Wi-Fi calling is a service that every Indian should be able to get from his/her telecom operator. Vi is far too behind its competitors in this area and it should be a point of concern for the company. Expanding the Wi-Fi calling service fast, Vodafone Idea will be able to address some of the issues that its users across the country face. Customers shouldn't have to tell the telco what they want at every turn and then wait for years to see their wishes coming true. Vi has a lot to figure out in terms of keeping its customers satisfied with its mobile services.
