CERT-In (Indian Computer Emergency Response Team), a cyber agency under the IT Ministry, on Wednesday, warned about the vulnerabilities found on the Cisco products which can help hackers gain access to crucial data and infiltrate computer systems for stealing data. As per an IANS report, the major vulnerabilities have been discovered in the Cisco Email Security Appliance (ESA), Cisco Secure Email and Web Manager, and Cisco Enterprise Chat and Email (ECE). The vulnerabilities give the hackers an opportunity to execute arbitrary code, conduct a cross-site scripting (XSS) attack and gain access to the sensitive information from the targeted system. CERT-In said that the Information Disclosure Vulnerability exists because of the lack of proper input sanitisation while querying the external authentication server. CERT-In Had Alerted Enterprises About the Vulnerabilities in Cisco ProductsThe networking major has a lot of enterprise clients. Enterprises own and store a lot of crucial information with them. Because of the vulnerabilities found in Cisco's products, the data and sensitive information of all the enterprise clients of Cisco is in danger. On June 20, 2022, CERT-In alerted the enterprises about three major vulnerabilities that were found in the Cisco products. There were vulnerabilities found in products such as routers and email/web manager which can enable the attacker or the hacker to gain access to sensitive information from the system. An official statement on the matter has not come from Cisco yet. There have been multiple bugs found in the products of Cisco and the company needs to address the issue asap to win back the customer confidence. Cisco has enterprise clients globally and is one of the renowned networking solutions companies. Cisco has also been a major contributor to the global telecom as well as the Indian market over the years. Hopefully, the vulnerabilities are fixed soon. |

Vodafone Idea Added 3.3 Lakh Users in Delhi, More than Airtel and Jio Posted: 29 Jun 2022 12:20 AM PDT Vodafone Idea (Vi), the third-largest telecom operator in India, has announced that it has been the leading subscriber growth in the Delhi circle. Taking the data from TRAI (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India), Vi said that it added over 3.3 lakh subscribers in Delhi in March and April 2022. As per the latest data published by the regulator, Delhi continues to be the place with the maximum tele-density, witnessing a growth of 1.48% MoM, achieving a tele-density level of 269.08%. In terms of net subscriber addition in April, Delhi was the third largest circle in India, having added 4,00,479 users. For two months straight, Vi has added the most subscribers in Delhi, India. How Many Subscribers Did Vodafone Idea Add in Delhi in April 2022?In April 2022, Vodafone Idea added 2,55,857 subscribers in Delhi. The largest pie of 63.89% of the circle's overall net subscriber addition was done by Vi only. In March as well, the company showed a similar trend where it added 76,320 subscribers which was the highest amongst all the telcos. This is a positive sign for the telco as Delhi people are likely prioritising the services of Vodafone Idea over the other telcos. However, it is worth noting that during April 2022, TRAI data also said that Vodafone Idea, overall, lost 1.56 million subscribers across the nation. At the same time, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio had added subscribers. Despite all this, the active telecom subscribers' figure had dipped during the month for the entire industry, with all the operators losing VLR subscribers. Vodafone Idea will take any positive it can find from the performance and would try to build on that. Thus while being the top subscriber-adding operator in Delhi for two consecutive months, the telco also needs to start performing in the other circles to give its investors something to actually smile about.
Airtel Payments Bank Partners With Axis Bank to Speed Up Money Collection Posted: 28 Jun 2022 11:30 PM PDT Airtel Payments Bank, the profitable banking subsidiary of Bharti Airtel has announced a partnership with Axis Bank, a leading private banking institution in India. Under this partnership, the companies aim to speed up the cash collection process from the customers and build operational efficiency. Airtel Payments Bank will help Axis Bank with the digitisation of last-mile cash collections. There's an extensive number of Airtel Payments Bank outlets spread across the nation. Axis Bank agents will utilise these outlets for collecting and depositing cash. This would help with speeding up the payment cycle and as per Airtel "help in releasing the bandwidth of field agents who operate across the country." The Axis Bank agents who have collected the money from the customers will no longer need to go back to the branch for depositing the collected EMI amount. They can just deposit it at the nearest Airtel Payments Bank outlet. The money will be immediately transferred to the Axis Bank. Airtel Payments Bank Solving a Huge Problem for Axis BankThis will enable Axis Bank in the faster collection of money without having the need to expand the retail infrastructure. Airtel Payments Bank already has invested in reaching multiple rural and semi-urban points in India and thus now Axis Bank can leverage that reach to process cash collections faster. There are over 5,00,000 banking points of Airtel Payments Bank and Axis Bank customers will be able to make direct EMI deposits for loan payments at these points. So the customers will also end up saving a lot of time and effort which will lead to a satisfactory experience. This is an exponential and scalable model of partnership that can reach the entire country in no time. It will be worth looking at whether Airtel Payments Bank is able to partner with other banks for a similar model or if this is an exclusive partnership with Axis Bank.
Apple to Rely on Qualcomm Only for 5G Modem Posted: 28 Jun 2022 10:01 PM PDT Multiple reports had come saying that Apple is planning to ditch other vendors and use its own in-house 5G modem on the future iPhones. Apple had reportedly made big investments for coming up with its own 5G modem for the A-Bionic chipsets. But the move has failed, and the company will keep relying on Qualcomm for 5G modems. Apple doesn't want to rely on third-party companies for modems. An in-house 5G modem would have also meant lower costs of manufacturing. However, that will not happen anytime soon now. Qualcomm Was Only Expected to Ship 20% of the 5G Modems for iPhones in 2023According to the latest report from Apple analyst Ming Chi-Kuo, Qualcomm was only expected to ship around 20% of the 5G modems in 2023 for iPhones. But now, the complete shipment of the 5G modems during the year will be made exclusively by Qualcomm. For the unaware, back in 2019, Apple had acquired the modem chip business of Intel and was planning to move away from Qualcomm. There has been a huge legal battle as well between Apple and Qualcomm over the licensing fees. While it settled, it would have definitely made the relationship sour between the two. Apple isn't likely going to back down completely here. While the move hasn't paid off right away, Apple is expected to keep working on developing its 5G modem. The best thing for Apple is that it has a huge pool of funds to do it. Other companies have to kill projects because of a lack of money. There's no such concern with Apple as it makes the kind of money that hardly any tech company does in the world. For now, there's no saying when we will see the first iPhone with an in-house 5G modem. Whether it would be a performance booster is not is also something that can't be said right now.
Bharti Airtel is the Top Bet Because of Multiple Reasons Posted: 28 Jun 2022 08:02 PM PDT Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator is the top pick for ICICI Securities amongst the private telcos in India. It has over 32.6 crore, wireless customers, in India and 12.8 crore subscribers spread across 14 African countries as of FY22. In India, the telco is leading in the highest average revenue per user (ARPU) segment. Currently, Airtel's ARPU is Rs 178 and the telco has short-term plans to cross the Rs 200 ARPU levels while the medium-to-long-term goal is Rs 300. It would be achievable for the telco given that it plans to raise mobile tariffs for the consumers. The company has seen robust growth in its B2B as well as FTTH services. With 5G in the near future, the enterprise revenues for the telco are expected to grow further. ICICI Securities believes that the industry structure of three telcos and more relief from the government and the tariff hikes on the way put Airtel in a sweet spot to maintain its strength amongst its peers. Further, Bharti Airtel has been able to raise funds pretty easily which will help the telco in delivering a formidable digital ecosystem to its customers. SUC Decision to Help AirtelThe Indian government decided to scrape 3% floor rate on spectrum usage charges (SUC) which will make such payments zero in the long run as the SUC from the future spectrum auction has been removed. This will benefit Airtel a lot over the long run. Then there's also a big chunk of residual (Rs 15,740) from the rights fund which Airtel can utilise in the upcoming spectrum auction. The telco can also borrow externally at an attractive interest rate for funding the 5G auction purchases. Because Airtel has been generating free cash flows and the telco has managed to save money, there should not be a lot of debt involved for Airtel in the upcoming spectrum auction. According to ICICI Securities, both Airtel and Jio are expected to spend around Rs 38,000 crore each for getting 100 MHz PAN-India spectrum in the 3300 MHz band, 500 MHz in the 2600 MHz band, and some 4G spectrum for coverage/capacity. The analyst has declared Airtel as the top pick with a target price of Rs 860.
BSNL 3GB Daily Data Plan for Long-Term Under Rs 1000 Posted: 28 Jun 2022 06:30 PM PDT Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has so many plans on offer that it can be a little overwhelming for a consumer to sort through all of them and understand which one is the best for them. To ease that pain for you, today, we are going to see a plan from BSNL which offers 3GB daily data, has a long-term validity and is also priced under Rs 1,000. This is a plan that if backed by a 4G network can be a real threat to the private telcos. Let's take a look at the plan from BSNL that we are talking about. BSNL 3GB Daily Data Plan That We Are Talking AboutBSNL is offering its 3GB daily data plan for Rs 997. Now if it was Jio, Airtel or Vodafone Idea, the maximum validity that this plan would have offered would be 84 days or lesser. But with BSNL, users will get 180 days of validity. While there are no PAN-India 4G networks, for now, this plan still makes a lot of sense for a person who lives in an area where the network coverage from BSNL is good. Along with 3GB of daily data, users get truly unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day with this plan. There is also free access to Lokdhum content for 180 days and PRBT for two months. This plan is also available for multiple recharges. Post the consumption of fair-usage-policy (FUP) data, the internet speed for the users drops to 80 Kbps. It is worth noting that in multiple parts of India, BSNL's 4G networks are already active. So, if you are someone who lives in an area where BSNL is offering 4G and you don't travel much, this could be a good deal for you. There will be plenty of data, for the long term and the cost will also be under Rs 1000. This is not a new plan and something that BSNL has been offering for years now. However, because of the lack of marketing from BSNL, users don't really know that they even get such a plan from BSNL. There are plenty of other plans as well. To know about them, keep reading from TelecomTalk.info.
