| Samsung to Release One UI 4.1.1 Update for its Galaxy Devices Posted: 07 Jun 2022 07:36 AM PDT
Continuous OS upgrades are what a customer wants. The South Korean brand Samsung has been one of the top OEMs in recent years when it comes to delivering Android and security upgrades to its phones on schedule. From 2019 onwards, the company promised to provide four years of Android security upgrades to select devices it has launched. Samsung has updated a number of its phones in the Galaxy S, Galaxy M, and Galaxy A series to One UI 4 based on Android 12 during the last few months. The company began rolling out one UI 4.1 software for the Galaxy S22 series in early 2022. Since then, Samsung has started rolling out the update to all of its Galaxy handsets. There are rumours that the One UI 4.1.1 is expected to release later this year. Let's learn more about this upcoming software update which will be released later this year. One UI 4.1.1 is Expected to be Released Later This YearA GoodLock moderator on the Samsung Community site in South Korea tipped about the upcoming software version. The moderator was responding to an inquiry from a user having trouble with the Wonderland module. The moderator responded to this by saying, "The error reported by the customers requires a lot of platform level code correction and is reflected on One UI 4.1.1 version." He also said that customers would have to wait for version 4.1.1 to arrive, but once it does, it should resolve the issues. Samsung released a UI 3.1.1 upgrade for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 smartphones last year and eventually expanded it out to Samsung Galaxy tablets. According to the tipster, the One UI 4.1.1 upgrade will be released alongside the next-generation foldable smartphone, which is expected to be launched in August of this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4 are scheduled to be unveiled at Samsung's Unpacked event in August, along with the Galaxy Watch 5 series. On top of the existing One UI 4.1 for foldable and large-screen devices, we anticipate seeing a few new features with One UI 4.1.1. Based on the past track record, version 4.1.1 will be based on Android 12, and One UI 5.0 will most likely be based on Android 13. |

| Hathway Home Broadband Plan is Offering 200 Mbps Speed and Unlimited Data Posted: 07 Jun 2022 06:04 AM PDT
Hathway offers broadband services to people in select cities of the country. There are multiple plans starting with 15 Mbps speed which goes up to 200 Mbps that users can choose from. The only drawback of purchasing a Hathway Broadband plan is that you won't get any over-the-top (OTT) benefit with it. Regardless, we are going to take a look at the Hathway Home Broadband plan which comes with 200 Mbps speed and gives users unlimited data. Let's see which plan is it. Hathway Broadband Plan With 200 Mbps Speed Which Offers Unlimited DataNote that the plan we are going to talk about here is for users living in Mumbai. For Rs 2,997, users will get a 200 Mbps speed plan from Hathway for three months. The taxes and installation charges will be applied during billing. While the company says that it offers unlimited data, all of it is not in high-speed. There's a certain FUP (fair-usage-policy) limit applicable that has not been mentioned on the website. But post reaching the FUP limit, the speed of the plan would drop to 5 Mbps. The installation is completely free on this plan. Hathway will also offer users a free modem/router when they purchase this plan. There is no plan that is available on a monthly basis. Users can either take it for three months, six months, or twelve months. For six months, users will have to pay Rs 5,994 and for twelve months, users will have to pay Rs 11,988. With the other internet service providers (ISPs) such as Airtel Xstream Fiber and JioFiber, users get much better benefits for around the same price. Hathway has still unfortunately not caught up with the trend to offer OTT benefits with its high-end broadband plans. It is unlikely that the company will be able to compete with the likes of JioFiber and Airtel Xstream Fiber. |
| Reliance Jio Is Trying to Reach Deepest Corners of India With 4G Posted: 07 Jun 2022 03:31 AM PDT ![]() Reliance Jio, the largest-telecom operator in India, is trying to reach the deepest corners of India with its 4G network. According to Opensignal, Jio's 4G network availability and coverage is the best amongst all the telcos in India. Now, Jio has introduced 4G network services in Spangmik village near Pangong lake in Ladakh. The telecom operator has become the first in India to provide 4G network services in the area. For the unaware, Pangong Lake is one of the most popular tourist locations in Ladakh and thousands of tourists visit the area every year from India and other parts of the world. Jio's mobile tower in the area was inaugurated by Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, Honourable Member of Parliament. Reliance Jio Trying to Cover Ladakh AggressivelyReliance Jio has been continuously trying to expand its 4G networks in Ladakh. The telco's employees have overcome hard terrain and harsh weather conditions to ensure that connectivity reaches every part of the region. In May 2022, Jio also launched 4G network services in places such as Kanji, Urbis & Hanupatta villages in the Khalsi block and Chunglungkha village in the Diskit Block. In Leh, Reliance Jio is also providing JioFiber services to users. This will ensure that Jio users touring Ladakh would get a strong network connection to keep in touch with their loved ones. The telco had also recently started offering 4G network services in Kedarnath, which would make the life of pilgrims very easy. Lately, Jio has been focusing on areas where the other private telcos aren't simply because of profitability concerns. |
| India Getting 5G Ready With PM Gati Shakti for Boosting Telecom Infrastructure Posted: 07 Jun 2022 01:18 AM PDT
Infrastructure is one of the biggest challenges that India has to address with respect to the 5G rollout. The cash-strapped telecom sector is getting help from Prime Minister Modi's Gati Shakti, which will help with cutting down logistic costs, increasing cargo handling capacity and reducing the turnaround time. PM Modi had previously launched the National Master plan worth Rs 100 trillion for multi-modal connectivity to boost the economy and reduce logistic costs. The Digital Infrastructure Providers Association (DIPA), a leading telecom industry association, said the National Master Plan had given a major boost to the robust digital infrastructure and a lot of relevance to the telecom sector, including a unified portal for multiple things such as cross-sector collab with other utilities such as gas, electricity, water, broadcasting, and more. It is also worth noting that the Government of India (GoI) has also announced the GatiShakti Sanchar Portal, which will act as a unified portal for all telecom RoW (right of way) clearances and reduce the waiting time for the telcos to get applications approved. This will be very beneficial for the telecom industry as 5G would require a dense infrastructure setup. Broadband to All Goal of GoI Should Come TrueIf the telcos and internet service providers (ISPs) continuously get help from the Indian government with respect to ease in policies and infrastructure setup, the GoI's goal of "Broadband to All" and "Digital India" would be in the contention to come true. The telecom industry has seen a big turnaround post the launch of the central portal for RoW clearances. According to the data shared by DIPA, out of 30,925 RoW applications, 23,000 approvals have been granted online, and around 7,000 approvals were granted offline, which will soon reflect on the portal as well. T.R. Dua, Director General, DIPA, said the GatiShakti Master Plan of PM Modi's government is a big boost to the robust telecom infrastructure in our country. |

| Vodafone Idea Prepaid Plan that has Everything You Need Posted: 06 Jun 2022 10:13 PM PDT
When it comes to prepaid plans, Vodafone Idea arguably has the best plans in terms of freebies and additional offers/benefits. While the prepaid plans of Vi are more expensive than Jio's, the additional benefits that are offered to the users make Vi plans worth the money. Yes, in terms of network experience, Vi users in most parts of India won't get as good performance as Jio or Airtel would deliver to their customers, but it would be decent enough to get the work done. Vi is also trying to raise funds for scaling the capex for expanding 4G networks in the country. For now, let's take a look at the prepaid plan from Vi that is going to offer users everything they need. Vodafone Idea Prepaid Plan That's Expensive, But Offers Everything Users NeedEvery user in India going for an expensive prepaid plan would want unlimited voice calling, 100 SMS/day, and daily data along with additional benefits. Well, the Vi plan that we are talking about offers all of this to the users. It is the Rs 3,099 plan that we are referring to here. This plan comes with a yearly validity meaning 365 days. Users get 2GB of daily data with this plan, along with unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day. But the list of benefits doesn't end here. Users can also claim a free Disney+ Hotstar Mobile subscription for one year completely free (normally, it costs Rs 499). Then there's also another over-the-top (OTT) benefit of Vi Movies & TV. There are Vi Hero Unlimited benefits as well. These benefits include Binge All Night Offer, Weekend Data Rollover, and Data Delights. The Data Delights was a new offer which was launched by the company when it implemented the tariff hikes back in 2021. Users get 2GB of backup data every month with the Data Delights offer. This is the prepaid plan from Vi that can offer you almost everything you need from a prepaid plan. |

| Airtel Removes Prime Video Mobile Edition Trial With Most Prepaid Plans Posted: 06 Jun 2022 06:49 PM PDT
Bharti Airtel has removed the benefit of the Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition trial with most of its prepaid plans. The telco had started offering the benefit under Airtel Thanks back in 2021. It was just a one-month trial that users got when they recharged with an Airtel prepaid plan. But now, that benefit has been removed for the users. Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition allows users to stream content via smartphone only. It was a decent benefit, and since it was a trial, it didn't come again and again for the users. As mentioned, the benefit has been removed from multiple prepaid plans, but not all plans. Let's take a look at the prepaid plans that do offer the benefit. Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition Prepaid Plans that Airtel Now OffersThere are only two Airtel prepaid plans now that offer Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition to the users now. These plans will cost Rs 359 and Rs 108. The Rs 359 voucher is a regular prepaid plan, while the Rs 108 voucher is a 4G data-only plan. Note that Airtel has announced nothing in this regard; TelecomTalk has independently verified the development. Both the plans offer Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition directly to the users under Airtel Thanks. Note that this time there's no trial but the complete benefit. With the Rs 359 prepaid plan, users will get Amazon Prime Video Mobile Edition for 28 days, while the Rs 108 plan offers it for 30 days. Users get unlimited voice calling, 100 SMS/day, and 2GB daily data with the Rs 359 prepaid plan. This plan comes with a total validity of 28 days. Users also get Airtel Thanks benefits such as Airtel Xstream Premium, Apollo 24 | 7 Circle subscription for three months, Wynk Music, Rs 100 cashback on FASTag, and free Hellotunes. The Rs 108 plan offers users a total of 6GB of data. Since it is meant as a data booster, users don't get any SMS or voice calling benefits with the plan. Its validity will be the same as the user's base prepaid plan. |
| Apple MacBook Air, MacBook Pro With M2 Chipsets Launched in India Posted: 06 Jun 2022 12:47 PM PDT
During the first day of WWDC (World Wide Developers Conference) 2022, Apple announced the arrival of multiple new things which includes a new iOS version (iOS 16), iPadOS, macOS, and watchOS. But the most interesting announcement of the day was the new M2 chipset along with the new 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pros. Apple has redesigned the MacBook Air while the MacBook Pro is the same as the 2020 version. Let's take a look at the all-new MacBook Air. MacBook Air M2 Details
Apple has completely redesigned the MacBook Air 2022. The display now comes with a notch similar to that of the MacBook Pro 14-inch and 16-inch. Further, Apple has finally shifted to a 1080p FaceTime HD camera from the older 720p camera. There are two Thunderbolt or USB 4 ports in the laptop. Another big change this time around is the arrival of MagSafe. Apple has brought the MagSafe charging technology back with the MacBook Air M2. This time, Apple will also offer a fast-charging option with the MacBook Air M2. The company will bundle a regular 30W fast-charger with the laptop box. But users purchasing the laptop from Apple's Online Store in India will get the option to upgrade to a 35W or a 67W fast-charger. Further, the screen this time is a 13.6-inch Liquid Retina Display with True Tone technology. The MacBook Air 2022 now comes in a more box kind of design like the MacBook Pro 14-inch. The maximum brightness this MacBook Air M2 can support is 500nits, which is not bad. The MacBook Air M2 is 11.3mm thin and is available in four finishes – Silver, Starlight, Space Gray, and Midnight. The laptop weighs only 2.7 pounds. Powered by the M2 chip, this new MacBook Air is supposed to deliver the best experience users have ever seen on a MacBook Air. MacBook Pro 2022 with M2 chipset on the other hand is the exact replica of the MacBook Pro 2020. The only difference is in the chipset. The new MacBook Pro doesn't come with MagSafe technology and there's no notch in the display. But there's the Touch Bar in MacBook Pro which many users might want. MacBook Air M2 and MacBook Pro M2 PriceMacBook Air M2 has been listed for a starting price of Rs 1,19,900 on the official Apple Online Store India. This is the base variant (256GB). Users can also go for a higher storage model but they will have to pay more. Even for faster-charging bricks, users will have to pay more. MacBook Pro M2 will start in India for Rs 1,29,900 for the 256GB storage model. Again, users can go for the higher storage variants by paying more. MacBook Pro M2 is only available in Space Grey and Silver colour options. |
| iQOO Upcoming Smartphone Could Come With 200W Fast Wired Charging Support Posted: 06 Jun 2022 10:10 AM PDT
Vivo has been attempting to improve the charging speed of its phones for quite some time now. According to reports, the iQOO 10 Pro will have insane 200W wired and a 65W wireless fast charging support. Let's learn more about this latest development. iQOO 10 Pro Battery Technology and Details RevealedWe already know that Vivo has been working tirelessly to improve the battery technology of its smartphones which includes both charging and battery life. The iQOO 9 is a new device from the company that has 120W fast charging support and can be fully charged from 0 to 100% in just 18 minutes. But now, iQOO is planning to take things to the next level. There are rumours that the upcoming Vivo iQOO 10 Pro will have insane 200W wired and a 65W of wireless fast charging support. Reliable tipster Digital Chat Station (DCS) disclosed some fascinating data about the charging speed of the upcoming iQOO flagship in a post on the Chinese blogging platform Weibo. According to the tipster, the iQOO 10 Pro will include 200W rapid wired charging support and come with a 20V/10A adapter. Also, the model number V200100L0B0-CN is reported to be on the charger. The smartphone will also support 65W of fast wireless charging. Overall, the device will push the wired and wireless charging speeds to its limits. Is Super-Quick Charging Safe or Not?Super-fast charging has now become a standard among smartphone manufacturers. As of now, all the smartphone companies have been looking for methods to improve their device's charging. Since the smartphone brands have normalized rapid charging, it's worth asking whether it's safe or not. Fast charging is already associated with a higher risk of overheating and other risks. Despite all of the additional safety measures put in place, the risk remains. But it has not necessarily resulted in direct accidents or decreased performance of the smartphones. |
| OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G Review: Affordable, Great and Sufficient Posted: 06 Jun 2022 07:26 AM PDT
OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G Review: Design and Body
I wouldn't say it is the best-looking smartphone, but the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G is a cute offering. It is available in Black and Blue colour options, I got the black one for review, which is pretty good. The device has a plastic back with a textured block on the upper side that also houses the camera setup. I guess this is OnePlus's effort in making the device slightly stand apart from its competitors in the same price range.
There's a 3.5mm audio jack at the bottom with a USB Type-C port and a speaker grill. The volume rockers and the SIM tray are on the left with the power button on the right. There's nothing on the top, which is fine. It is a fairly light device to hold with slightly curved sides which makes it comfortable to operate. The fingerprint sensor is mounted on top of the power button and is pretty fast.
Honestly, there's not a lot to talk about the design of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite. It is average but cute. So, there's that. OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G Display and Audio
OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G comes with a 6.59-inch LCD display with resolution support of 2412 x 1080 pixels. A great thing about this device's display is that it supports 120Hz refresh rate. So you can count on things to be quite smooth. I have been using the device for three weeks now and so far, the display has been very responsive and hasn't made me mad. OnePlus Nord CE 2 is pretty good for watching OTT (over-the-top) content as well. While the display is not the most colour accurate, it can still deliver a good content viewing experience. In terms of audio, the experience is quite good as well. It is sufficiently loud and you can definitely watch video songs on this device without earphones and still get a decent experience. There's a single speaker for audio output at the bottom. The speaker at the top is only meant to work for voice calling I believe. The only thing I don't like a lot about the display of this smartphone is the chin. It just feels bad, but it could be because I am used to the OnePlus 10 Pro by now which has an extremely thin chin. Let's move on to the performance of the device. OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G Performance and Battery
In very simple words, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G is a decent performer. If you want to do gaming, you can comfortably do that. Opening multiple apps on the smartphone is also doable. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 SoC which is a pretty good performer for the mid-range. The device boots on OxygenOS 12 right out of the box. You get the usual OnePlus experience in the software department. I haven't found any issues with the performance so far. When you use the device for heavy gaming for long hours, then you will see scenarios of overheating and the device lagging a little on certain occasions. Otherwise, the performance of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite is simply a treat for an average user.
The OnePlus Nord CE 2 is a lovely device when it comes to battery. First of all, it packs a 5000mAh battery. Then, you also get support for 33W fast-charging. At the price of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G, I love the fact that there is support for 33W fast charging, at least. Then the device is so well optimised with the OxygenOS 12 that it gives a really great battery backup. The 5G bands this device can support are – 5G SA: 1/28A/41/78; 5G NSA: 41/77/78. Now, let's take a look at the camera performance of the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G. OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G Camera Review
Look, I will just say one thing, compared to other devices in the same price range, you are getting one of the best camera systems with the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G. The images are very good with understanding the colours of the subject and everything looks good and original most of the time. There's a limited number of camera modes, but that's fine as it is not really a mid-range or a flagship device. There’s a triple-camera setup at the rear with a 64MP primary sensor, 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro sensor. For selfies, there’s a Sony IMX471 16MP at the front. Take a look at the camera samples below. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G Review: Price and Conclusion
The OnePlus CE 2 Lite 5G is available in India in two memory and colour variants. The base memory variant comes with 6GB+128GB for Rs 19,999 while the 8GB+128GB variant comes for Rs 21,999. It is always better to go for the 8GB RAM variant today where the applications are becoming heavier to load in the background. The colour options are – Blue Tide and Black Dusk. There are bank offers also included. Users purchasing the device via an ICICI Bank credit card will get a Rs 1,500 instant discount on the purchase. There is also a no-cost EMI available for up to three months with the ICICI Bank cards. In my honest opinion, the OnePlus Nord CE 2 Lite 5G is one of the best devices in the price range it is selling at. The device has surely got my attention and my recommendation as it can be a strong 5G option in the affordable mid-range segment.

| Jio ARPU Gains Will Reflect Better in Q1 FY23 Posted: 06 Jun 2022 06:20 AM PDT
Reliance Jio, India's number one telecom operator with a total subscriber pool of 400+ million users, had hiked prepaid tariffs back in December 2021. The overall effect of the tariff hike on Jio's average revenue per user (ARPU) figure hasn't arrived yet. This is because the telco has a lot of long-term users who will be recharging for the first time with the higher tariffs in Q1 FY23. It is also worth noting that a lot of Jio users took advantage of the company's unlimited queuing facility to recharge multiple times with the older (lower price) tariffs. Will Jio's ARPU Touch Rs 200 Soon?Bharti Airtel's the king when it comes to ARPU right now in the telecom industry. According to an ET report, Nomura Research, in a note, said that Jio's ARPU would inch up, and the full impact of tariff hikes implemented in December 2021 will be reflected in Q1 FY23 (April – June 2022). It makes a lot of sense as well. There's also the fact that in Q4 FY22, Jio's ARPU grew at 10.6% sequentially, which was the highest growth rate for any of the telcos in the industry. All of Jio's customers are 4G users. But there are a lot of low-paying 4G users as well. It is also worth noting that the ARPU gain in Q4 FY22 was majorly because of the removal of inactive users from the subscriber base. Jio's ARPU during Q4 FY22 was Rs 168. Will it reach Rs 200 soon is the question? Things will become much clearer once the ARPU figures for Q1 FY23 are revealed. Further, there are also tariff hikes being planned by the private telcos by the year-end. At the same time, Jio hasn't hinted at any tariff hike; if Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (Vi) increase tariffs, Jio will do that as well, to some degree. It is in the best interests of the business of the telco. Jio's active user percentage has improved significantly over the last six months, and it has boosted the telco's ARPU in a major way. If Vi removed most of its active users as well, the telco would be able to report a higher ARPU figure without having the need for a tariff hike soon. But if there's a tariff hike this year, Jio's ARPU should comfortably cross Rs 200 levels by Q4 FY23. |
| Smart TV Has Seen Maximum Demand Growth in Rural and Semi-Urban India: Kodak Posted: 06 Jun 2022 05:00 AM PDT
Smart TVs have become the norm for new-age consumers as they love to watch content on the go via OTT (over-the-top) platforms instead of relying on traditional linear TV channels for watching content in the old school manner. Avneet Singh Marwah, CEO, Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd, a Kodak Brand Licensee, in an exclusive conversation with TelecomTalk, said that maximum growth for Smart TV demand in the rural and semi-urban India. Marwah said that the Finance Minister's move of announcing that the government will be focusing on laying optical fiber cable (OFC) in rural parts of the country where the electricity has just arrived is a big move. The faster internet reaches everywhere, the more OTT platforms and the role of Smart TVs will grow in India. Indians Enjoy Strong Connectivity, Says Marwah
Kodak Wants to Provide Everything at More Affordable RatesKodak understands the Indian market is price sensitive. Thus, to stay ahead of the other brands in the market, Kodak offers the same thing its competitors are offering at a lower price. For example, if a certain company is offering a 50-inch TV for Rs 60,000, Marwah said that Kodak would offer a 60-inch option for the same price. Thus, Kodak is just looking to provide something extra to the Indian users. India has a Shortage of Skilled LabourIndia has a shortage of skilled labour right now, said Marwah. He said that looking at the complex technologies that are coming over, India needs to produce more skilled labours. Marwah said the PLI (Production Linked Incentive) scheme for displays and semiconductors from the government is a bold move. India had started relying way too much on China for displays and other components. But now, with the PLI schemes, the government is ensuring that India will become Aatmanirbhar in the foreseeable future. The biggest win to come out of this would be the exports that Indian manufacturers will be able to make. Marwah said that India has way more capabilities than other nations to build an exporting ecosystem because of the kind of education system India has. In the next ten years, Marwah said that we need a long-term policy from the government along with a stable government, and India would definitely be one of the biggest manufacturing countries in the world. |
| Airtel Payments Bank Comes With ‘Safe Pay’ Feature to Keep Fraudsters at Bay Posted: 06 Jun 2022 02:49 AM PDT
Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in the country, owns one of the most successful fintech companies called, Airtel Payments Bank. It is an online payments bank that allows users to transact money very conveniently whenever they want. But with online banking comes the risk of fraudsters tricking people into traps for stealing their money. However, Airtel has equipped its payments platform with a feature called 'Safe Pay', which makes it extra safe for users overall. Let's see what Airtel Safe Pay is. Airtel Safe Pay, What Is It?Well, it is not something new. We have talked about it before as well. But for the people who don't know, Airtel Safe Pay is an additional layer of an authentication process that is put on top of two-factor authentication to make it safer for users to leverage Airtel Payments Bank for transacting money. Airtel Safe Pay ensures that whenever money is transacted out of your account, you are asked to approve the transaction. Airtel Safe Pay uses OTA (Over the Air) technology to send users the alert of a transaction happening from their account. Note that Airtel Payments Bank doesn't charge anything extra for Airtel Safe Pay. So what happens is that when the customer is making the payment, he/she has to enter their mPIN or the OTP to authenticate the transaction. Normally, entering the right mPIN or the OTP would make the transaction go live. But, with Airtel Safe Pay, even after entering the mPIN or the OTP, users will be asked to approve the transaction manually from their Airtel Thanks app. This will alert users that money is being sent out of their account. Sometimes, users don't understand when someone is trying to get the money out of their account. But with this additional alert, users will get to see that if they approve the transaction, their money will be deducted. |

| Bharti Airtel ARPU Will Take 4-5 Years for Reaching Rs 250 Posted: 05 Jun 2022 10:06 PM PDT
Bharti Airtel, one of the leading telecom operators in India, will need another four to five years to reach its average revenue per user (ARPU) goal of Rs 250. Morgan Stanley, in a note, said that ARPU growth would boost the telco's revenues and increase free cash flow. The ARPU will go up to the Rs 250 level only with multiple tariff hikes. But here's what we have to consider. Over the next four to five years, a substantial number of users will also start purchasing 5G services. While 5G isn't expected to come at a huge premium, it will still be more expensive than 5G. in addition to that, Airtel's 4G customer base is also expected to expand as more legacy network users shift to 4G/5G. This will also boost the ARPU of the company. Bharti Airtel's ARPU for Q4 FY22 stood at Rs 178, which is not far from Rs 200 now. In a single tariff hike, the telco would easily be able to cross the Rs 200 figure. Bharti Airtel's ARPU to Grow 41% Over the Next Five YearsAccording to an ET report, Morgan Stanley said that Airtel's ARPU would grow by 41% over the next five years. But it feels like that is a very conservative number. In five years, I expect Airtel's ARPU to easily touch Rs 300 levels. The telco has been expanding its product lines, and Airtel Thanks is something that users should not forget. There are millions of customers still consuming 2G services, and once they convert into 4G, the ARPU will go up again. Bharti Airtel wants to play itself as the premium player. Hence, its tariffs are always a notch above what Jio's plans cost. Thus, the telco will always be at a certain advantage over Jio when it comes to ARPU comparison. With 5G, over time, the telco's mobile revenues should go up significantly. |
| Vodafone Idea Ready to Form New Partnerships for Expanding Digital Business Posted: 05 Jun 2022 09:09 PM PDT
Vodafone Idea is planning to do something different from its competitors. The third-largest telecom operator in the country believes more in a partnership model when it comes to offering more products/services to the existing customer base. Because the telco has more than 200 million customers, even businesses don't mind partnering up with Vi. The company's CEO, Ravinder Takkar, said (as per Business Standard) that Vi is looking to take its core competence and existing customers and tie-up with the top two-to-three players in each category and do deep integration with them to offer their customers something different than their competitors. Vodafone Idea Doesn't Have the Money or Resources Even to do What Airtel and Jio are DoingBoth Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio are rolling out their own platforms for the users instead of partnering up with others. This is because the top two telcos had money in the first place to invest in building other products. Vi can't afford this. The telco would rather spend the money that would be required to develop new products on expanding 4G networks across the nation. Over the last year, Vi has formed multiple partnerships. The telco now offers gaming services, job services, ad-tech services, and more. Most of these services/products have been launched in collaboration with others. Thus, Vi gets to attract new users while these platforms get to leverage Vi's extensive customer base. Jio and Airtel don't need to partner with anyone as they already have so many of their own products. Airtel owns a music platform, and so does Jio. Both the companies have their own video streaming platforms as well. Vi is just playing catch up with its competitors but is trying to do it in a different manner to give users a unique experience. These partnerships are focused on increasing revenues for Vi since its mobile business is not performing the best at the moment. |
