If you are thinking of purchasing a smartphone under Rs 35,000, the OnePlus Nord 2 and Nord 2T both become a viable options. But which one should you go for right now? Let's find out.

Both the smartphones feature the same 6.43-inch Fluid AMOLED display with support for 90Hz refresh rate. The difference is in the chipset. The Nord 2T comes with the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC, while the Nord 2 comes with MediaTek Dimensity 1200 SoC. OnePlus Nord 2T is naturally faster and more powerful, but not by a very big margin, obviously.

Both the devices come with a 4500mAh battery. But the Nord 2T supports 80W fast-charging while the Nord 2 supports 65W fast-charging. The Nord 2T will run on OxygenOS 12.1 out of the box, while OnePlus has already started rolling out the same update for OnePlus Nord 2.

In the camera department as well, both the devices feature the same triple camera setup at the rear with a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor, 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor, and a 2MP monochrome sensor. For selfies, both smartphones come with the 32MP Sony IMX615 SoC.

In the 5G connectivity department, the Nord 2T supports slightly more 5G bands than the Nord 2, but the difference is negligible. The Nord 2T comes with support for the following 5G bands – 5G SA: 1/3/5/8/28/40/41/78; 5G NSA: 40/41/78.

OnePlus Nord 2T vs OnePlus Nord 2 Price

Reliance Jio Talking With European Vendors for 5G Gear

Posted: 01 Jul 2022 12:56 AM PDT

Reliance Jio

Reliance Jio, the number one telecom operator in India, is reportedly talking with the European telecom gear vendors, including Nokia and Ericsson, for 5G gear. The telco had only partnered with Samsung for its 4G rollout. But a Business Standard report says that Jio is looking to diversify and partner with other vendors to roll out 5G. Jio has already tied up with Ericsson before for 5G trials in Delhi; however, the plans didn't materialise.

Currently, Jio has sought fresh permission to conduct trials with Ericsson in Mumbai. But the telco doesn't have a lot of time left as the spectrum auction date is set for July 26. Not just in Mumbai, Jio also looked to conduct the trials in Jamnagar, Gujarat.

With Nokia, the telco is just in the state of talks. There have been no plans for any trials envisaged by the companies yet.

Jio Developed Own 5G Stack

Jio had earlier said that while it looks forward to deploying its own 5G stack, the company is open to partnering with other vendors. For the most part, Jio has stayed silent around its 5G developments compared to Vodafone Idea (Vi) and Bharti Airtel.

Kiran Thomas, President of Jio, had said earlier this year that the telco plans to cover the top 1000 cities in India with its 5G network. How soon this will happen is something we will have to wait and watch. Currently, talks are that the telcos won't bid heavily on the 5G spectrum auction. If that is true, all the plans already envisaged by the telecom operators will take a back seat.

The telcos were particularly unhappy with the decision of the government to allow the enterprises to get a direct allocation of the spectrum from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) for captive private 5G networks. Jio is yet to officially comment on its talks with Nokia and the fresh trials with Ericsson.

OnePlus Nord 2T

OnePlus has announced the launch date as well as specifications and price for OnePlus Nord 2T in India. The smartphone will definitely make a strong noise in the mid-range category as the Nord 2 did. OnePlus Nord 2 was a pretty decent device and offered a great camera experience along with power. With the Nord 2T, we get a slightly more powerful chip and some enhanced specifications. From personal experience, OxygenOS 12.1 has been one of the most stable operating systems launched by OnePlus in the last few years. It looks like the partnership with Oppo has worked out fine.

Bharti Airtel and Google Deal Worth $700 Million Gets CCI Approval

Posted: 30 Jun 2022 08:53 PM PDT

Airtel Google

Earlier this year, Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in the country announced that it is getting a $1 billion investment from Google. Out of the $1 billion, over $700 million was an investment in the telco for a 1.28% stake. The remaining $300 million were meant for forming multi-year agreements. The main purpose of Google's investment in Airtel was to co-create India-specific 5G use cases. The shareholders of the telco had approved the deal between the companies. However, a final decision from the Competition Commission of India (CCI) was yet to come.

On June 30, 2022, Airtel said that it has received a green light from CCI for the Google investment of $700 million (Rs 52,243.80 million). Airtel will issue Google up to 71,176,839 equity shares of the face value of Rs 5 each at a price of Rs 734 per equity share.

This means that Google will now own 1.28% of Bharti Airtel.

No Conflict of Interest to Emerge Even Though Google Also Partnered with Jio

Google is also working closely with Reliance Jio, India's number one telecom operator and the primary competition of Bharti Airtel.

Gopal Vittal, CEO of Bharti Airtel had said earlier that there will be no conflict of interest in the telco's deal with Google. Vittal had clarified that the deal between Airtel and Google is a different one than what exists between Google and Jio.

Google and Airtel are looking to form multiple commercial agreements in the future which will be different from what Jio plans to do with the search-engine giant. This is a big win for Bharti Airtel.

This money coupled with the thousands of crores that Airtel will save by announcing deferment of additional AGR (adjusted gross revenue) dues of up to FY2018-19 for four years will put Airtel in a very strong position to go head-to-head against Jio.

The war for winning customers in the 5G era will start again and this time Jio will have Airtel as an equal competitor.

Bharti Airtel Follows Vi into Accepting Deferment of Additional AGR Dues

Posted: 30 Jun 2022 08:03 PM PDT

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel, the second-largest telecom operator in the country, has opted to defer the additional adjusted gross revenue (AGR) dues up to FY2018-19. It is worth noting that Vodafone Idea (Vi) has done the same. Earlier, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) had offered the telcos an option to defer the payment of AGR-related dues up till FY2016-17, as determined by the Supreme Court (SC). To offer further relief to the operators, the DoT, on June 15, wrote to the telcos about whether they would want to defer further AGR-related dues up to FY2018-19 by a period of four years.

Vodafone Idea, a few days back, agreed to the same. Since the telcos had only 15 days to communicate their decision, Airtel, on June 30, 2022, agreed to defer the additional dues by a period of four years as well.

Airtel announced the same via a listing on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). However, the telco hasn't mentioned the amount of the dues deferred. Regardless, it puts Airtel in a better position for the upcoming 5G investments and 4G expansion.

In addition to the deferment of dues, DoT offered Airtel an option to convert its accrued interest dues into equity for the government. Airtel has opted not to do that, which makes a lot of sense.

Bharti Airtel Has the Right to Prepay the Deferred Dues

While communicating its decision to the stock exchanges, Airtel said that it has the right to prepay the deferred dues anytime it wants. The deferred dues are for four years, applicable from FY2021-22 up to FY2024-25.

Airtel has already managed to make plenty of free cash flow, and the company has only opted for deferment to ensure that it has more liquid funds to fuel investments and growth. Both Airtel and Vi are now in a much better position because of the decision of the DoT to help them out with their liquidity levels. Jio, as expected, hasn't opted for any such deferment.

Vodafone Idea Users Can Get 30 Days of Mobile Service Under Rs 200

Posted: 30 Jun 2022 07:45 PM PDT

Vodafone Idea

If you are a Vodafone Idea (Vi) customer, you can get 30 days of mobile service validity for Rs 200. There's a very simple way in which any Vi customer can do this despite higher tariffs. Vodafone Idea (Vi) has been enhancing its network services in many parts of the country including Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh West, Uttarakhand and more. This means, that the telco's customers will now get better connectivity resulting in an improved voice calling and data experience. However, because of higher tariffs, consumers are a little agitated. If you are looking for a method to keep your Vi SIM active at the lowest monthly cost possible, there's a way.

Vodafone Idea Rs 98 Prepaid Plan

Vodafone Idea is offering its Rs 98 prepaid plan with a total validity of 15 days. Now this plan, if purchased twice will give you 30 days of validity. Note that you don't need to queue the recharges. But you can purchase it once and then again when the validity is over. So, in every 15 days, the consumer only needs to spend Rs 98 to get this plan. This means, that in a month of 30 days, the consumer would have to spend Rs 196 against which they will get active services for 30 days. This is not a bad deal.

This plan offers truly unlimited voice calling benefit. There are no SMS benefits but users do get 200MB of data. But there's always the option of recharging with an add-on 4G data pack if additional data is required. There are no other benefits associated with this plan.

This plan still benefits Vi as it can get at least low-paying consumers to spend close to Rs 200 in a month on its services. Vi also earns some money here and the consumer can also save some to keep his/her SIM active making it a win-win situation for everyone.
