Vodafone Idea Got Port-in Interest from 10000 Users Last Week

Posted: 10 Jul 2022 08:56 AM PDT

Vodafone Idea

Vodafone Idea (Vi) said that it received interest from 10000 users last week for porting into the network of the company. Vi is the third-largest private telecom operator in India and the only choice apart from Jio and Airtel for the Indian consumers looking to consume 4G services. Vi recently made several announcements about enhancing network performance in multiple states and adding the greatest number of subscribers in particular circles. The telco's performance is picking up slowly, and it is something that the investors and the fans of the company will be happy to see.

While the telco received interest from over 10000 subscribers to port into its network, it isn't necessary that all the 10000 users will be added to Vi's subscriber base. Some people decide to not port after putting in the request.

Further, the telecom operators also try to convince customers to stay in their network and not port out by reaching out to them and more. The telcos have been accused of offering differential tariffs to incentivise the users to stay with them.

TRAI Very Strict About Differential Tariffs to Consumers

The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has hired auditors to check if this has happened and which telcos have done this. We will soon get to know whether the telcos have done this time and again despite TRAI's strict guidelines on tariffs for consumers.

10000 is not a large number, to be honest. There's no study to find out the average number of users that might port to Vi out of the 10000 interested users. Vi is giving its best shot to add new users and retain them for the long run. The telco has been behind Airtel and Jio in the capex department for 4G, but that has been because of a lack of access to capital. But Vi is in the process of raising fresh capital from external investors very soon, and it should happen once the government equity conversion process is completed.

OnePlus 10T Could Come with Massive 16GB of RAM

Posted: 10 Jul 2022 06:39 AM PDT

OnePlus

OnePlus 10T is likely to be the last flagship smartphone from OnePlus in 2022. The smartphone is expected to sport the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1, which is better in the thermal department compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen1. As per the latest development around the smartphone, it could come with 16GB of RAM. It is a lot of RAM for a OnePlus smartphone, and if this is true, the OnePlus 10T would be the first smartphone from the company to feature 16GB of RAM. Until now, OnePlus devices have featured a maximum of 12GB of RAM.

What would be slightly strange here is the need for OnePlus to do this. As per DigitalChatStation (via GizmoChina), OnePlus would launch the OnePlus 10T with a 6.7-inch FHD+ 120Hz AMOLED display.

The tipster said that there would be a 16GB RAM variant of the smartphone. What's worth noting here is that OnePlus already allows users to expand RAM if they have free internal storage. What exactly is OnePlus planning is unknown. The company could be gearing the smartphone to attract more gaming fans its way.

For an average user, purchasing a 12GB RAM smartphone is also more than sufficient. The 16GB RAM variant model would only suit a select few, and thus the company might be looking to compete with the Asus ROG Phone 6 series here by offering users a more affordable gaming device.

OnePlus 10T Battery and Charging Capabilities

The OnePlus 10T is expected to feature 150W fast-charging support. The device is reported to come with a triple-camera setup with a 50MP primary sensor, 16MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and a 2MP third sensor which is likely a depth sensor. For selfies, the smartphone is likely is come with a 32MP sensor at the front. OnePlus is yet to acknowledge the existence of the smartphone officially, but it is definitely in the works and might arrive later this month.

BSNL 4G Update: TCS Gets More time to Finetune Parameters

Posted: 10 Jul 2022 05:22 AM PDT

BSNL

The Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has received more time from the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) to finetune the technical parameters of the 4G network for BSNL (Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited). BSNL's 4G network launch is expected in a soft manner on August 15, 2022. But according to a recent report from ET Telecom, TCS, BSNL's partner in deploying an indigenous 4G network throughout India, has received additional time from the DoT (till July 2022 end) for finetuning the technical parameters.

Deploying homegrown technology would be no joke. This is something that even the private telcos didn't want to try. But the government wants to look after India's security and wants the country to be AatmaNirbhar (self-reliant), and that is why it has directed BSNL to only use homegrown network technology for rolling out 4G and all the future network technologies, including 5G.

TCS and BSNL Agree to Coordinate and Work Closely

The TCS and BSNL have agreed to work closely with each other so that they can finalise the 4G network's technical capabilities so that a commercial rollout in the near future is possible. The network tests were expected to be completely done by June 30, 2022. But it has taken more time than expected.

If both the companies can work together and launch homegrown 4G networks, even at a small scale, by August 15, it would be a win for the government and the Indian consumers. BSNL is planning to launch 4G networks in major cities such as Pune and multiple parts of Kerala by the year-end. More states and cities will get a wider rollout of BSNL's 4G by the end of 2022, and then the network will keep spreading to reach every part of the country in 2023.

The issue right now is that BSNL wasn't able to provide NB-IoT (narrowband – Internet of Things) service with its 4G network. Thus, BSNL is working with TCS to meet the throughput as per the benchmark set by the 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project).

Adani Group Might Derail 5G Plans of Jio, Airtel and Vi

Posted: 10 Jul 2022 12:02 AM PDT

Adani 5G

Adani Group has announced that it will foray into the telecom sector by participating in the 5G spectrum auction slated for July 26, 2022. It will be going against the likes of Airtel, Jio and Vi, who have an established customer base and brand image in the telecom sector. On Saturday, Adani Group clarified that it aims to offer private network services to enterprises and cyber security in the airport and more. This tells us that the company isn't looking to offer B2C services for the time being and will only focus on B2B services.

The Adani Group will definitely have a challenge in front of itself to offer enterprise 5G network services. The other private telcos have worked with technology partners to prove their 5G networks can support a wide variety of use cases. Adani Group will also need to first showcase this in order to win the trust of the customers. Next thing, Adani Group will have to build a great reputation for offering consistent services with good after-sales support.

Jio, Airtel and Vi Enterprise Revenues Now Will be Distributed with the Adani Group

All the existing private telcos are primarily aiming to offer B2B services to enterprises in India with 5G networks. Now, they have a new competitor on the block. The only thing is, this competitor (Adani Group) has access to the kind of capital and resources which can give it a certain boost in bringing services to the market.

Further, the Adani Group can drive up the cost of spectrum for the other telcos in the upcoming 5G spectrum auction. Until now, it was expected that only Airtel and Jio would be the primary bidders for essential 5G airwaves as Vodafone Idea doesn't have enough money. But now, the Adani Group will also be bidding for airwaves, and thus, there could be a heated bidding war for 5G airwaves in the upcoming 5G spectrum auction.

The Adani Group can potentially derail the 5G plans of Airtel, Jio and Vi. The B2B segment is a very important focus area as it would bring the maximum revenues for the telcos with 5G launch. For consumers, the telcos will continue to invest in 4G networks only.

It will be interesting to see how the Adani Group will fare against the private telcos in the ruthless Indian telecom sector. The spectrum auctions are now merely a few days away. The presence of Adani Group is a good sign for the sector as the enterprises will now get more options to choose from apart from the existing players.

Bharti Airtel OTT Packs Under Rs 500

Bharti Airtel

Bharti Airtel is known for offering pretty expensive tariffs compared to its arch-rival Reliance Jio. Regardless, there's a complete range of plans that you can choose from if you are a prepaid customer of the telco. Bharti Airtel offers multiple prepaid plans which come bundled with major Over-The-Top (OTT) subscriptions. We are going to check the details of the prepaid plans from Airtel, which offer OTT benefits to consumers under Rs 500.

Bharti Airtel Rs 399 Plan

This is arguably one of the most affordable OTT bundled prepaid plans you can purchase from Bharti Airtel. But its validity is also very short, which is 28 days. This plan would be mostly sought by consumers who are looking to get free access to Disney+ Hotstar Mobile for three months.

With the Rs 399 prepaid plan from Bharti Airtel, users get 2.5GB of daily data along with unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day. The Disney+ Hotstar subscription offered with this plan is meant for mobile use only.

Apart from these benefits, users also get access to Airtel Thanks benefits. The Airtel Thanks benefits include free three months of Apollo 24 | 7 Circle, Rs 100 cashback on FASTag transaction, free Hellotunes, Wynk Music, and more.

Bharti Airtel Rs 499 Prepaid Plan

This plan costs Rs 100 more than the Rs 399 prepaid plan described above. But with this plan, users get a free subscription to Disney+ Hotstar Mobile for one year instead of three months. This plan also comes with the same validity of 28 days. Users get unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day with this plan as well. The daily data offered with this plan is 2GB.

Post consumption of FUP (fair-usage-policy) data, the speed for the consumers will reduce to 64 Kbps. There are Airtel Thanks benefits bundled with this plan as well. To claim the benefits, users can download the Airtel Thanks app on their smartphone.

These are the two prepaid plans from Bharti Airtel, which offer consumers free OTT subscriptions under Rs 500. Let us know what you think about these plans in the comments section below.

WhatsApp Will Allow Users To Use the Same Account Across Two Smartphones, Soon

Posted: 09 Jul 2022 10:22 AM PDT

WhatsApp

Among all the instant messaging apps, Meta-owned WhatsApp is one of the most popular. To enhance users' conversation experiences, the app has consistently introduced new features and upgrades on a regular basis. With WhatsApp, users can now quickly send text, video, and media messages to contacts. The software allows users to make online UPI payments as well as audio and video calls.

More about the new feature

Users can currently open one WhatsApp account on one smartphone as well as three additional devices, including desktop PCs and laptops. Users are not permitted to open the same account on more than one smartphone, though. Users have complained that it is difficult to use WhatsApp on multiple cellphones. According to reports, WhatsApp is developing a new feature that would let users link a different smartphone to their account.

A feature that will let users connect several cellphones to their WhatsApp accounts and instantly sync the chat history on the companion device has been noticed by WABetaInfo. Evidence of the functionality was found in the most recent Android WhatsApp beta, version 2.22.15.13.

The functionality, which is now in beta testing, raises the possibility that WhatsApp will eventually include companion device support. Currently, WhatsApp supports four types of devices: desktop, laptop, tablet, and smartphone. Unfortunately, there isn't a way to turn on the companion device feature in the WhatsApp beta right now. Before being made available to everyone, the feature may still be in development and take a few weeks or months.

Support for companion devices is not a recent addition. For years, Telegram has had it. The internet messaging service can be used simultaneously on various cellphones using the same account.

Currently, WhatsApp may be used on up to four devices, including one smartphone.

Adani Group Gives Clarification on Intent With 5G

Posted: 09 Jul 2022 07:09 AM PDT

Adani Enterprises

Adani Group, one of the biggest conglomerates in India, has clarified its position and intent to participate in the 5G spectrum auction. On Thursday, it was revealed that the Adani Group would be bidding against the likes of Airtel, Jio and Vodafone Idea in the upcoming spectrum auction for 5G airwaves. This made many consumers think that the group might be planning to enter the B2C (Business-to-Consumer) segment with 5G services like Jio did with 4G.

However, a statement from the Adani Group has arrived saying that it isn't looking to offer 5G services in the B2C domain.

Adani Group's Statement on 5G

"We are participating in the 5G spectrum auction to provide private network solutions along with enhanced cyber security in the airport, ports & logistics, power generation, transmission, distribution, and various manufacturing operations," the Adani Group said.

This means that the private telcos don't need to worry about getting additional competition in the B2C segment. However, in the B2B segment, the Adani Group will definitely become a strong competitor for all the existing private telecom companies in the country.

The Adani Group further said that it looks to leverage 5G network technology to support the Adani Foundation's investments in healthcare, education and skill development in rural areas. The group will also leverage 5G to fuel its own operations which include edge data centres, super apps, control centres and more.

Just how big a threat the Adani Group will be to the private telcos in the B2B segment is a big question right now. All the telcos already have a ready ecosystem and proven networks for supporting multiple use cases of 5G. The Adani Group will definitely need to catch up with the rest as soon as possible. The bidding war in the upcoming auction will definitely heat up as now it is not just Airtel and Jio competing anymore; there will be a new big player with a ton of capital.

OnePlus and Oppo Banned in Germany After Court Rules in Favour of Nokia

Posted: 09 Jul 2022 04:53 AM PDT

OnePlus

Nokia and Oppo were in a legal tussle over the 4G (LTE) and 5G patents. Nokia had sued Oppo for nine standard-essential patents (SEPs) and five implementation patents in three regional German courts. Note that Nokia is the standard-bearer in the 5G SEPs segment with huge investments of about $130.3 billion. The company holds a large number of patents in the field and has won settlements against major players such as Lenovo and Daimler in recent times.

Nokia had sued Oppo in over four countries while Oppo countersued Nokia in nine countries, said a Gizmochina report. The lawsuit was a surprise for Oppo.

Nokia vs Oppo: Decision Ruled in Favour of Nokia

The Mannheim Regional Court in Germany has granted Nokia a cease-and-desist order against Oppo. According to the report, Oppo and OnePlus devices are now banned from the German market. The judge dismissed the reaction of Oppo to the decision and labelled the company as an unwilling licensee.

This is a major setback for Oppo and OnePlus. Nokia had used the help of counsels in the Mannheim case, who helped the company win both the Lenovo and Daimler cases as well. Oppo and OnePlus will definitely not be happy with the decision. This was the first hearing on the matter.

It will be interesting to see how Oppo will respond to this. For now, not many details are available.

BSNL 30 Days Plan Built for Heavy Data Usage

Posted: 09 Jul 2022 02:43 AM PDT

BSNL

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) offers multiple prepaid plans to the consumers with which they get 30 days of validity. Today, we are going to look at one such plan from the company, which offers 30 days of service validity but is made for heavy data users. A lot of users had complained to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) about not getting one complete month or 30 days plans from the telcos. Thus, quite a while back, TRAI had ordered all the telcos to offer at least one 30 days plan to the consumers.

The 30 days BSNL plan that we are talking about comes for Rs 299. It launched earlier this year and offers tremendous benefits. Let's check them out.

BSNL Rs 299 Prepaid Plan is Pretty Good for Heavy Data Users

The 299 prepaid plan from BSNL comes with 3GB of daily data. Users get truly unlimited voice calling and 100 SMS/day with this plan. The internet speed reduces to 80 Kbps once the fair usage policy (FUP) limit is over.

There are very few such prepaid plans in the market right now. Getting 3GB of daily data from your BSNL pack can be a great convenience if the customer lives in an area where the network of BNSL is good. Otherwise, regardless of the data you are getting from BSNL, you won't be able to use it because of poor network experience.

This plan doesn't offer any additional benefits, sadly. It would have been better if BSNL had partnered with one of the OTT (Over-the-top) platforms to bundle it with this plan which comes with so much data. The total data offered with this plan would be 90GB. The cost of using each GB of data with this plan would come at Rs 3.32. Further, the daily cost of using this plan would be Rs 9.96, which is approximately Rs 10 each day.

Would you consider getting this prepaid plan from BSNL? Let us know in the comments section below.

JioFiber Reveals Best Selling Broadband Plan

Posted: 08 Jul 2022 11:37 PM PDT

JioFiber

JioFiber, the fiber broadband arm of Reliance Jio has revealed its best-selling plan in India. Before we talk about the plan, let's acknowledge how rapidly JioFiber's presence in the Indian market has grown. JioFiber is already the nation's number one fiber broadband service provider. A few of the reasons why the telco became the leading ISP (internet service provider) in India are – a) giving out free Jio STB (Set-Top Box) to the consumers on purchase of select high-speed plans; b) offering more affordable services, and c) bundling multiple free subscriptions of major OTT (over-the-top) platforms. The company has revealed its best-selling broadband plan in India. Let's take a look at that plan.

JioFiber Rs 1499 Broadband Plan

Since it is the best-selling plan in India, most consumers should naturally be aware of the benefits of this plan. However, for the people who don't know, JioFiber offers its Rs 1499 broadband plan with 300 Mbps of internet speed. The data offered with this plan is unlimited. However, unlimited here means a FUP (fair-usage-policy) limit of 3.3TB per month. The speed benefit offered with this plan is symmetrical for both downloading and uploading.

But the biggest attraction of this plan is what users additionally get. Jio enables the customer to get a free Jio STB with this plan. Further, users get a free subscription to the following platforms – Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+ Hotstar, SonyLIV, ZEE5, Voot Kids, SunNXT, Voot Select, Hoichoi, Discovery+, Universal+, Lionsgate Play, Eros Now, JioCinema, ShemarooMe, JioSaavn, and ALT Balaji.

Note that this same plan is also available for the users under the postpaid offering from JioFiber. Further, the amount mentioned above doesn't include taxes for which you will have to pay more. This is the best-selling broadband plan from JioFiber and it makes sense that more and more consumers are opting for this particular plan as it offers great benefits. Which ISP services do you use right now and how much are you spending, let us know in the comments below!
