Truecaller Brings New Audio Chat App Called Open Doors

Posted: 13 Jul 2022 07:33 AM PDT

Truecaller

The Scandinavian caller identification provider Truecaller unveiled Open Doors, a new real-time audio conversation app, on Wednesday, July 13. Teams from Truecaller in India and Stockholm created the new app. Open Doors will be freely accessible worldwide via the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, according to the company. Also, it integrates perfectly with iOS and Android.

More information regarding the new app

Open Doors can be downloaded by Truecaller users, who can then sign in with a simple tap to begin utilising the app. To sign in, you will need to confirm your phone number via a missed call or an OTP if you do not already utilise the caller identification service. According to the company, Open Doors simply needs access to your contact list and microphone to enable real-time audio chatting and link users with their pals. Not only that, users taking part in a discussion won't be able to see other participants’ phone numbers.

Users of Open Doors have the freedom to enter and exit chats as they like. When you join or begin a chat, the app lets your friends know. Upon receiving the notification, your friends can choose to participate in the conversation by clicking on the alert notification or by visiting a link that can be shared independently. Once your friends have signed up, the app will notify those friends in a similar way, and the invitation cycle will so continue.

Additionally, the firm stated that the conversations are not saved anywhere and would be moderated by the community. According to Truecaller, Open Doors’ user interface is available in English, Hindi, Spanish, Latin, and French. On customer demand, the company said that additional languages might be added in the future.

Truecaller’s co-founder and chief strategy officer, Nami Zarringhalam, said: "Thanks to Truecaller being 13 years in the business, we’ve spent a great deal of time learning about how people communicate. Our new app, Open Doors, was born out of a simple question – how can we help people make new connections without being intrusive? And this is what we want to do: to bridge the world using the most natural form of communication, our voices."

HCL Posts Rs 3283 Crore Net Profit in Q1 FY23, Management Cautions Recession in US

Posted: 13 Jul 2022 01:38 AM PDT

HCL

In the first quarter of the year, HCL Technologies net profit has risen 2.4% but the operating margins came under high pressure because costs, mainly manpower-related, went up significantly. For the ongoing fiscal year, India’s third-largest software company kept revenue growth of 12-14 % and an operating margin of 18-20%. The management of the company warned about the impact of the recession in the United States.

Revenue increased 3.8%, while net profit decreased 8.6% sequentially due to a higher base from a one-time gain in the quarter ended March 31, 2022. The company’s operating margin for the April through June quarter dropped 90 basis points sequentially to 17% as a result of higher travel and labour expenditures and record-high employee churn in the services sector. As a result of the ongoing talent shortage in the IT industry, attrition for the quarter increased to a record 23.8% of the total workforce. A Rs 10 interim dividend was declared by the company’s board.

“In some verticals, there will be project completions and some one-time work which will complete, so that it will have some impact on the revenue numbers and growth numbers. we expect to see a good positive trajectory moving forward.” C Vijayakumar, managing director of HCL Technologies, said in a statement.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Financial Report

Tata Consultancy Services, the largest IT services provider in India by revenue, underperformed street expectations for the first quarter. On Friday, TCS reported a net profit of Rs 9,478 crore and revenue of Rs 52,758 crore. Its attrition rate increased to 19.7% while operating margins decreased to 23.1% from 25% in the prior quarter due to increased employee costs. On Monday, the performance decreased the price of TCS shares by over 5% and the IT index by 3%. HCL’s Vijayakumar also issued a warning about the effects of the US slowdown in remarks to reporters on Tuesday following the announcement of the results.

Jio and Airtel Spendings for 5G Spectrum Anticipated Post Adani Group Entry

Posted: 13 Jul 2022 12:40 AM PDT

Jio Airtel

Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel are going to get tough competition from the Adani Group in the upcoming 5G spectrum auction. Both the telcos have to launch 5G for B2B as well as B2C applications. For this, the telcos would heavily bid for the mid-band spectrum in the 3.3-3.67 GHz band. Before the Adani Group's entry, no bidding war was expected as Vodafone Idea didn't have the money to do it in the first place. But now, Adani Group, with its rich cash resources and debt access, will be going up against the private telcos in the 5G spectrum auction.

According to an ET report, Reliance Jio and Airtel are likely to spend close to Rs 60,000 crore and Rs 50,000 crore in the upcoming 5G spectrum auction. Adani Data Networks, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Adani Group, is expected to spend up to Rs 15,000 crore, while Vodafone Idea (Vi) might spend Rs 6,000 crore.

There may be an intense fight between Jio, Airtel and Adani to get the mid-band spectrum. Adani Group also wants to provide services in the B2B domain with 5G.

The telcos weren't already happy with the reserve price of the airwaves. Now, this tough fight from the Adani Group would make this worse. It might get too costly for the telecom operators to roll out 5G networks in India because of this.

Indian Government to Benefit from This

But all of this would be a good thing for the Indian government, which would be netting all the revenues from the spectrum auction. The report mentions that Jio, Airtel, Adani, and Vi have put in Rs 6500 – Rs 7500 crore, Rs 6000 – Rs 7000 crore, Rs 2000 – Rs 2500 crore and Rs 600 – Rs 700 crore as earnest money deposits (EMD).

Companies participating in the spectrum auction need to submit EMD as part of the application process. The exact amount hasn't been made public yet.

5G from Space Will be Reality Soon

Posted: 12 Jul 2022 10:56 PM PDT

5G

The satellite communications (satcom) sector is going to develop significantly over the next decade as investments from private companies and groups flow in. The governments across the world have been introducing and modifying policies to make the space sector lucrative for investors. 5G networks are also going to see massive growth by the end of this decade. However, 5G won't just be limited as a terrestrial networking technology. In the future, you will also get to see 5G services from space. Here's what you need to know.

Big Players Working Together to Make 5G from Space a Reality

Some of the biggest names in the communications tech industry are working together to make 5G from space a reality. Qualcomm, Ericsson along with Thales, a French aerospace company, have announced a collaboration to test and develop 5G connectivity solutions using LEO (low earth orbit) satellite constellations.

The companies have already conducted studies to test the feasibility of their project. Now, they are ready to begin with, testing smartphone use cases and the validation of 5G non-terrestrial networks (5G NTN).

This would enable places in the extreme geographies to get internet connectivity where traditional terrestrial network/fibre can't reach. Even seas and big waterways, where network connectivity is usually missing, 5G NTN can make a big difference.

Erik Ekudden, senior vice president and chief technology officer, Ericsson, said that this would be a major milestone in the history of communications as the ultimate result could mean that a user can be anywhere in the world, be it in the middle of an ocean or the remotest forest, he/she can get 5G satellite connectivity.

But this might take a little time. Further, just how the telcos and the satcom companies partner and on what basis will also determine the extent to which this technology would grow. It would, of course, be the best thing if the user could get 5G connectivity from space. However, for that, users would also need a smartphone that can support satellite 5G connectivity.

Nothing Phone (1) has Its Challenges Cut Out in Western Europe

Posted: 12 Jul 2022 09:20 PM PDT

Nothing Phone 1

Nothing recently launched the Nothing Phone (1) in multiple markets across the world. The smartphone's unique proposition is its design and the glyph interface at the back. The company also promises a bloatware-free clean experience to the users which would definitely attract some consumers who want a stock Android experience.

Here's the thing though, the smartphone is largely untested. Sure, there are multiple unboxing videos and first impressions out in the market, but the stability of the device and its OS is yet to be tested. The smartphone isn't out for the regular public yet, but the orders will begin soon. Public feedback will be very crucial for the smartphone's success.

Nothing is a UK-based company, and Europe is not an easy market to crack because of the complexities. Especially at a time such as this when the economy of the UK is not doing very good because of the tensions in Europe.

Nothing as a Brand is Still Largely Unkown

It is not a surprise that consumers across the world aren't very aware of Nothing's brand. Carl Pie is absolutely a legend and a popular person, but in the tech world and is not a regular household name.

Jan Stryjak, Associate Director, Counterpoint Research said that ear (1) TWS earbuds did ok in terms of performance (have just sold under a million units so far globally). Compared to this, Apple sold 17 million units of AirPods, that too in Q1 2022.

This is largely because consumers aren't aware of Nothing as a brand. One thing that Nothing has proved itself to be good at is creating hype. Be it for the ear (1) or the Phone (1), Nothing managed to get the tech enthusiasts super charged up for its products.

Nothing to Get Strong Competition

The competition in the European market is not small. Brands such as Samsung and Apple hold the majority of the market with companies such as Xiaomi, Oppo and other brands including Realme, Honor, Google and more behind.

As per the data from Counterpoint Research Market Pulse, Samsung had 41% of the sales share in the Western Europe smartphone market in May 2022. Samsung was followed by Apple with 27% share and Xiaomi with 11% share. Oppo had a 10% share during the same month while other brands such as Motorola (3%), Realme (2%) and more had negligible shares.

Nothing will have to carve out a pie for itself in a tough market such as this. It would only happen once the company launches in other markets of Europe as well.

Nothing's Strategy

Stryjak said that partnering with the UK operators gives Nothing an edge. The company has forged partnerships with O2 in the UK and Deutsche Telekom in Germany which will give the company some growth prospects.

As per Stryjak, Nothing is going to follow a similar trajectory as OnePlus in its early days with the 'invite-only' model. But with this, the sales will also be limited. However, it would help in creating a very loyal customer base.

Europe is not exactly having a ball right now. There are economic challenges with record inflation levels which is impacting consumer spending. Thus, however affordable the Nothing Phone (1) is, consumers will be careful about spending their money. This could affect the sales that the company had expected it would see.

Twitter Unmention Feature Rolling Out Now

Posted: 12 Jul 2022 07:14 AM PDT

Twitter

The Unmention tool, which gives users more control over who can tag them on the network, has finally been enabled on Twitter. Through its official Twitter account, the corporation has announced the installation of the new feature. Users can now remove their tags and quit an ongoing conversation on the platform. Here is all the information you require on this feature and how it functions.

Twitter Unmention Feature

The new option is helpful because there are instances when users don’t want to participate in certain conversations, and it is unpleasant when they receive pointless notifications when a tweet in which they are tagged has a lot of replies. The platform has confirmed that all users are receiving the feature.

Any tweet in which you were mentioned can be easily deleted. Users only need to tap the three-dot menu that is visible in the top right corner of every tweet. You have the choice to “Leave this conversation” here. To remove oneself from a tweet, you only need to touch on it. Remember that Twitter doesn’t hide your name from that tweet; it will still be available for viewing. Simply put, one will stop receiving notifications for that specific tweet, and nobody will be able to visit your profile by clicking on a Tweet that contains your name. Simply put, tweets that contain your username will no longer be tagged.

You won’t get any further notifications for that tweet after you leave a particular conversation, but you can manually open the tweet to read the comments. Additionally, if you choose the leave chat feature, nobody will be able to bring up the conversation again.

All devices will now have access to the feature. If you haven’t gotten it yet, you should in the next few days. According to Twitter, the most recent change will enable users to unfollow themselves if they don’t want unneeded attention.

Additionally, the microblogging platform is apparently developing a new “Safety Mode” that will assist in preventing trolls from showing up in your mentions. According to a CNET story, the Safety mode would enable you to block trolls as the feature actively looks for them. The feature is presently in beta testing and not all regions have access to it.

5G Smartphones Coming in July 2022 in India

Posted: 12 Jul 2022 05:30 AM PDT

5G

In the first half of 2022, many 5G devices have already been released, and more are on the way. One of them is the Nothing phone (1), one of the year’s most anticipated smartphones. It has drawn interest from all across the world due to its distinctive design strategy. According to the leaks, the smartphone will have a number of excellent features and be reasonably priced. It is anticipated to fall within the sub-Rs 30,000 pricing range. In a similar price range, the forthcoming Redmi K50i is anticipated to go on sale. Samsung will also introduce low-cost smartphones. To learn more about all the 5G phones that will be released in India in July, keep reading.

Nothing Phone (1)

The most anticipated 5G smartphone is the Nothing phone (1), which will be unveiled in India today, on July 12. In advance of the device’s formal launch, the brand has already verified a few details.

Instead of the alleged new Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen1 processor, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G SoC will power the Nothing phone.

Additionally, we are aware that the phone supports wireless charging technology and has a punch-hole display. According to the leaks thus far, the gadget would have a 4,500mAh battery and allow 30W wired charging.

It is anticipated that the Nothing phone (1) will cost less than Rs 30,000 in India. If this turns out to be the case, the gadget will probably present some serious competition to several other well-known phones in the same price bracket. The rear panel of the phone is beautifully designed. One of the Nothing phone’s main selling points is its distinctive light system, which is sure to draw in a lot of customers. When the phone receives new notifications or is maintained charged the back panel lights.

This one even supports wireless charging, something most brands in the Rs 50,000 price range do not. The phone contains two rear cameras, which the manufacturer claims are sufficient to provide adequate camera samples. Carl Pei, the inventor of Nothing, thinks that “experience” is more significant than specs.

Redmi K50i 5G

The business chose to reintroduce the Redmi K series to the Indian market after an extended absence. The Redmi K50i will arrive in India on July 20 according to the manufacturer. After three years, the company will introduce a new Redmi K series phone. Xiaomi debuted the Redmi K series and the Redmi K20 range in July 2019. It was introduced with amazing hardware and sold for a reasonable price. It is anticipated that the new one won’t differ.

Through its Twitter account, Redmi has already announced a few characteristics of the upcoming Redmi K50i smartphone. A MediaTek Dimensity 8100 chipset will be included in the gadget. The gadget would perform better than those powered by Snapdragon 870 or Snapdragon 778G+ SoCs, according to the AnTuTu score Redmi released on Twitter. The new Redmi phone may be a superior choice, but only time will tell. The 5G smartphone boasts a punch-hole display and a triple back camera arrangement.

In India, the Redmi K50i is anticipated to be priced under Rs 30,000. It will probably be seen fighting against the well-known smartphone Nothing Phone (1), which will appear on July 12. The smartphone might sport a 144Hz display, a 64MP triple rear camera array, and a 5080mAh battery with 67W fast charging capabilities.

Samsung Galaxy M13 5G

Yet another smartphone that will be released in July is the Samsung Galaxy M13. On July 14, the smartphone will arrive in India. Two variants of this device will be made available by the corporation, one of which will be 4G and the other 5G. According to reports, both will have distinct specifications. When you examine the capabilities it delivers, the 5G variant appears to be a low-cost product from the company.

The upcoming Samsung phone will include a dual rear camera configuration, according to the teasers. The absence of a hump around the rear camera prevents the phone from swaying while it is resting on a flat surface. A notched display design in the shape of a waterdrop is on the front. Under the hood, there is a 5,000mAh battery.

The remaining information is still a mystery. According to the leaks, the phone will use a MediaTek Dimensity 700 SoC. According to reports, it will include a 6.5-inch HD+ screen with a 90Hz refresh rate.

Oppo Reno8 Series

Last but not least, on July 18 at 6 PM, the Oppo Reno8 series will debut in India. The new Reno phones have previously been publicised by the firm in China. Nothing is left to envision as a result. It’s likely that the specifications will be identical.

According to rumours, the Oppo Reno8 Pro, which was recently made available in China, would be sold under a different name in India. The 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display with Gorilla Glass 5, MediaTek Dimensity 8100 Max processor, 4,500mAh battery with 80W fast charging, triple rear cameras powered by MariSilicon X, and a 32-megapixel front camera might all be included in the gadget.

The 6.43-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED screen on the Oppo Reno8, which is the base model, could have a punch-hole cutout and a 90Hz refresh rate. Its processor is probably a MediaTek Dimensity 1300. Similar to the OnePlus Nord 2T, this one might also be powered by a 4,500mAh battery that supports 80W fast charging. A triple camera system with a 50-megapixel primary camera, a 2MP B&W sensor, and a 2MP macro camera could be seen on the back of the device.

The Oppo Reno 8 series is expected to cost as little as Rs 29,990 in India.
