| Amazon Has Confirmed the iQOO 9T 5G India Launch Posted: 14 Jul 2022 07:38 AM PDT
The iQOO 9T 5G India launch is scheduled to happen soon. Amazon India has been teasing the arrival of the new iQOO 9 series phone in the nation, despite the fact that iQOO has yet to reveal the precise date of its launch. A design inspired by BMW Motorsport is suggested by the e-commerce listing for the future phone. According to the microsite, the iQOO 9T 5G would include Vivo’s V1+ imaging technology and a triple-back camera set. The Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 SoC is anticipated to power it. Let's examine the smartphone's features and specifications. iQOO 9T 5G specifications and featuresTo tease the iQoo 9T 5G launch in India, Amazon has set up a special landing page on their website. The precise launch date and time of the phone are not stated in the listing, though. Three colour stripes representing the brand run off-centre down the white back panel in a design that is reminiscent of BMW Motorsport. Like the iQOO 9 Pro and iQoo 7 Legend, the power button is displayed in a blue hue. Additionally, a triple camera arrangement with 40x digital zoom is seen on the back. The device will also have Vivo’s V1+ imaging chip. The words “f/1.88 2.2 ASPH” are printed on the camera island. The iQOO 10 series, which will officially launch in China on July 19, has a similar appearance and set of features to those teased. The iQOO 9T 5G would be the fourth model in the iQoo 9 series, which included the basic iQOO 9, iQOO 9 Pro, and iQOO 9 SE variants when it was introduced in February of this year. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen1 chipset is anticipated to power the new competitor, which may also include a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. | iPhone 15 Top Model Might Come With a Periscope Lens Posted: 14 Jul 2022 07:03 AM PDT
Apple is believed to upgrade the iPhone’s optical zoom capabilities by adding a long-awaited periscope camera lens. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the periscope lens will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro Max in 2023. The analyst said that the smartphone would have a 5x–6x optical zoom. The telephoto lens on the iPhone 13 Pro models currently offers 15x digital zoom in addition to 3x optical zoom. According to earlier reports, the iPhone 15 Pro will have a periscope camera with a 5x optical zoom. Additionally, it was said that the iPhone 14 models would feature better back cameras. A description of the recent developmentAccording to Kuo’s knowledge, the periscope lens will only be available on the rumoured iPhone 15 Pro Max next year. The leak also asserts that the rumoured iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max would include the Periscope lens in 2024. According to reports, the periscope’s primary features for the rumoured iPhone 15 and iPhone 16 models could include a 1/3-inch 12-megapixel sensor coupled with an f/2.8 aperture lens and sensor-shift capability and a 5–6x optical zoom. The iPhone 14 models would feature better back cameras than the iPhone 13 models. The new information partially confirms a prior rumour that the iPhone 15 Pro would be equipped with a periscope lens with 5x optical zoom in 2023. Later, a different source asserted that all iPhone 15 series handsets would come equipped with periscope lenses in 2023. They had been anticipated to start production in 2023. In contrast, Samsung’s Galaxy S22 Ultra delivers 100x “Space Zoom” in addition to 10x optical zoom. It appears that Apple is pursuing a plan to widen the gap between its Pro and non-Pro devices. Along with providing details on periscope lenses, Kuo also provided a list of the companies that will profit from the adoption of periscope lenses by the iPhone. These companies include Lante Optics, LG Innotek, Cowell, Jahwa, and Largan. |
| Mobile Core Network Market Growth Doesn’t Look as Good Now Posted: 14 Jul 2022 05:38 AM PDT
Dell'Oro Group has revised its growth expectations for the Mobile Core Network (MCN) market. Instead of the 3% CAGR (Compounded Annual Growth Rate), the revised expectations are 2% CAGR for the MCN market in the next five years. Just six months back, the forecast was more in the positive side than now. This has a lot to do with things that are going on in the global market right now. There's a high inflation scare, geopolitical tensions, supply chain issues and more. All of this will contribute to increasing the challenges for the MNOs (Mobile Network Operators). "The July 2022 forecast is more conservative than the January 2022 forecast due to industry headwinds, including supply chain challenges, higher inflation, an impending recession, Mobile Network Operators' (MNO) challenges to increase revenues, and regional political conflicts," said Dave Bolan, Research Director at Dell'Oro Group. "As a result, we reduced 2022 to 2026 cumulative revenue forecast by 6%, decreasing revenues by $3.2 billion. The July 2022 cumulative revenue forecast (2022-2026) is now $50.3 billion resulting in a 2% CAGR." However, it is worth noting that things could change pretty fast in favour of the MCN market. It would depend on the number of 5G SA networks that are being deployed, the revenues that the telcos can generate, and other things such as reduced tension between several countries, fixation of the supply chain, and more. "We are tracking the number of 5G Standalone (5G SA) MBB networks that have been launched commercially by MNOs. In the first half of 2022, only three new 5G SA networks were launched, KDDI in Japan, DISH Wireless in the US, and China Broadnet in China, bringing the total deployed around the world to 27 MNO 5G SA MBB networks," Bolan added. The growth of 5G SA is relatively going to be slow over the next two to three years before finally picking up pace. |

| BSNL to follow Same Rules as Private Companies for Procuring Satcom Equipment Posted: 14 Jul 2022 04:10 AM PDT
The Indian government is tightening the rules around telecom infrastructure to ensure that the safety of the country remains intact. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has said that BSNL will also need to procure satcom (satellite communications) equipment by following the same rules as what the private telcos or private companies are following. In fact, not just satcom, be it any infrastructure-related equipment, the telcos will need the permission of the National Cyber Security Coordinator to procure it. BSNL is anyway making its mobile network with the help of Indian companies. The government doesn't want the state-run telecom operators to partner with foreign vendors (Chinese and non-Chinese) to roll out mobile networks. That is why there has been a significant delay in the rollout of 4G. DoT Recently Closed a Major Loophole in Telecom LicenseDoT recently closed the loophole surrounding the procurement of telecom gear from non-trusted companies. Basically, the decision has been taken to keep the Chinese companies and gear manufacturers out of the Indian market. The Indian government has a list of trusted vendors through which the telcos can purchase gear. Any company not on the list cannot be a partner for the telcos. DoT said that the telcos would need permission from the National Cyber Security Coordinator if they want to upgrade or expand the existing network using the gear of the companies not on the trusted list. This started since the time tensions between India and China grew. Satcom (satellite communications) equipment is also included in the clause as, at the end of the day, it is also used for connecting people. In the telecom space, this has hurt companies such as Huawei and ZTE majorly. Indian telcos have been working with Chinese firms for decades now. Only Jio is the private telco which hadn't worked with a Chinese company. Jio had relied on help from the South Korean giant Samsung. |
| Ericsson Gross Margins Impacted by Lowering IPR Revenues Posted: 14 Jul 2022 03:25 AM PDT
Ericsson has just come out with the financial results for Q2 of 2022. The Swedish telecom gear manufacturer said that its gross margin for the quarter was 45.1% which is lesser than the previous quarter's 47.9%. Borje Ekholm, President and CEO of Ericsson, said the company's gross margins fell because of lowering IPR revenues, increased logistics and component costs, and proactive investments in supply chain resilience. During the quarter, Ericsson's network sales grew organically by 6%. Ekholm shared that the company is investing in expanding and enhancing its offerings, and the R&D was increased in the quarter primarily for Cloud RAN. Ericsson’s Digital sales also grew organically by 2% YoY with strong growth in the cloud native 5G core. The total quarterly sales for Ericsson were 62.5 billion crowns compared to the previous quarter's 54.9 billion crowns. Ericsson beat the estimates of 61.45 billion crowns in quarterly revenues. Ericsson Says 5G is the Fastest Scaling Mobile TechnologyEkholm said that 5G is the fastest scaling mobile technology in the world, and its build-out will be larger and continue for a longer period than all the previous generation mobile technologies. With time, more and more new use-cases are expected to be discovered, which will be fuelled by 5G networks. In terms of global penetration, 5G is still at an early stage, explained Ekholm. "IPR licensing revenues were affected by several expiring patent license agreements pending renewal and by 5G license negotiations in the quarter. We are confident in our strong 5G position and leading patent portfolio, positioning us well to conclude pending and future license renewals," Ekholm said. |

| 5G: COAI Says Giving Spectrum Directly to Tech Companies is not Fair Play Posted: 13 Jul 2022 11:01 PM PDT
5G spectrum auctions are just a few days away from here. The bidders are already confirmed, with Adani Group being the surprise entry into the scene. But there's still the issue of the spectrum being directly provided to the tech companies in an administrative manner which can result in unfair play for the telcos. The Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI) has been pretty vocal about the same for very long. COAI is an industry body which represents private telcos. "We are happy to note that companies wanting to use 5G spectrum have made applications for open bidding of the spectrum through a transparent auction process, which ensures that level playing field is maintained and all interested parties bid for the spectrum required by them. India's structured licensing framework has helped orderly growth of India's digital connectivity landscape; the opening up of access to spectrum to enterprises directly disturbs the level playing field. The spectrum should not be provided on administrative basis as it leads to no business case for the rollout of 5G networks in the country," said Dr SP Kochhar, Director General, COAI. Telcos Will have no Incentive to Launch 5G if Tech Companies can Have Backdoor Access into Telecom Sector by Getting Spectrum Directly from DoTThe telcos are worried about seeing backdoor entries of tech companies into the telecom sector by getting the 5G spectrum from the DoT in an administrative manner. They can offer private 5G services to enterprises and won't even be subjected to the same level of regulatory compliances and levies as the private telcos are. "If the independent entities set up private captive networks with direct 5G spectrum allotment by DoT, it will diminish the revenue so much that there will be no viable business case left for the TSPs, and there will not remain any need for 5G Networks rollout by TSPs. It is important to understand that licensed access service providers are fully capable of providing these services most competitively and economically compared to private companies." "Any consideration of administrative allocation of spectrum for such networks is fundamentally against principles of level playing field and effectively provides a backdoor entry to big technology players to provide 5G services and solutions to enterprises in India without equivalent regulatory compliance and payment of levies that TSPs are subjected to," Kochhar added. |
